Carey Mulligan is one of my favorite rising stars – she’s really emerged as a contender for decades-long girl-crush potential, like Cate Blanchett or Meryl Streep. She’s talented, she funny, she’s interesting, and she makes interesting career choices. But unlike, say, a Blanchett, Carey’s style is still very questionable. Over the weekend, she did two big public appearances at the Dubai Film Festival. For one appearance, she did this odd hair and a ball gown by Erdem Moralioglu that looks oddly like a Chanel coacktail dress I remember on Blake Lively.
Then, the second appearance… slicked back hair, making her look like a ferret.
Note to Carey: you do not have the face for this hair. I realize that after she chopped off her locks for a very cute and endearing pixie cut, there could potentially be tragedy in the months to come. Here it is – the awkward hair-growing-out stage. The stage where she can’t really do anything with it that doesn’t look like hell.

I get that her hair is growing out, but that slicked back hairstyle is sad. It emphasizes her brown roots. If she’s going to grow it out, I’d go back to a more natural hair color.

I liked her at first. She’s a different kind of beauty not your Hollywood clone versions but after seeing her in Wall Street 2, she’s officially on my ish list! The plot was weak but her character was just awful. She literally replaced Daryl Hannah’s horrible acting.
She looks like she could be Gwen Stefani’s third child in the last pictures.
She was with Shia LaDouche for how long? Her judgment doesn’t seem that spectacular, personally, not professionally.

I don’t know why but this girl just bugs me. Maybe because she’s everywhere right now and I feel like her cute, pixie-coy way is being forced down my throat.
I also think it’s more the color than anything else.
All she needs is some bangs and a darker, richer color with highlights and she could be cute.
I won’t comment on the hair because God knows, my own hair is not the best.

i have to empathize with carey. i had my mid-back length long hair chopped off to a one inch buzz cut a few months ago and am now in that awkward stage where i’m trying to decide cut it short again or suffer while it grows…sigh… however, i do think carey looks cute.

I guess it’s part of the terriory to sometimes having to change your hair into not flattering colors/styles for movies.
Although I realize this is a film festival, but I’m sure we all have bad hair days sometimes and sometimes others may not like our hair when we do. She’s young, give her a break. She could do a lot worse things then wear a bad hair style.
I’m just going to say she’s having an off couple of appearances. Normally I thinks she’s cute as a button, but she’s looking a little aged and not as fresh-faced to me. We’re the same age so I get it…lack of sleep and excessive traveling can definitely take the fresh out of anyone’s face temporarily. This is coming from a formally over-traveled sleep deprived, student athlete/model. She just doesn’t have the benefit of photoshop in these candids.
i want to add, I still like her 10x better than most other actresses out there for being seemingly down to earth and intelligent.

I like her because she seems approachable.
I think she’s doing a lot with a tough stage for hair. I grew my hair out from a short cut just like hers and I looked AWFUL for 2 years (I kept trimming it, per stylist advice, not thinking I was drastically delaying the growing out process).
Last time I saw pics of her she was doing something super cute with her growing out hair. I don’t know what happened to that hair-do.
Gosh she’s fug. I can’t stand her whole “look”…the forced gamine, pixie crap went out with Winona and even she dry humped the look into oblivion.
