Kate Middleton manages to get through a lunch with The Queen & 40 royals

On Thursday, Kate Middleton was invited to an official royal engagement… with Her Majesty, The Queen! Kate and Prince William attended a pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace, where the entire royal family was in attendance, and I’m sure they gnawed on the official royal biscuits (real biscuits, not “the royal jewels”). People Magazine has a photo of Will and Kate in the back of a car, either coming or going from the lunch. Kate looks thrilled. Probably because she won in the end, and it didn’t matter than the Queen thought that she should get a job or find some direction other than being at Will’s beck-and-call. Kate probably looked at Her Majesty and thought “Ha! All I had to do was wait around for nine years. Sucker.”

Talk about an important lunch date! Punctuating a model month as a royal bride-to-be, Kate Middleton joined her fiancé for a special pre-Christmas lunch with Queen Elizabeth Thursday.

She and Prince William were driven the short hop from St. James’s Palace to Buckingham Palace for the annual event that takes place before the Queen heads off for her seasonal holiday.

The newly engaged couple rode in a car with some protection officers that traveled behind Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. Inside the palace, Kate, 28, mingled with a daunting array of royals, as all of the Queen’s children were in attendance, along with most of her grandchildren. And while she was a guest at the 2008 wedding of the Queen’s eldest grandchild, Peter Phillips, this is thought to be the first time she has had a lunch with the entire family at the palace.

Kate and William left about two and a half hours later – and this time, she was sandwiched between William and his brother Prince Harry in the back seat of an official SUV.

“It’s a momentous day for her,” royals author Judy Wade tells PEOPLE. “She must have met more than 40 members of the royal family and that must have been an ordeal for her to meet so many family members.”

“When she left, Kate was looking supremely happy. She was smiling broadly,” an observer says.

“She was beaming,” adds another source watching at the palace gates.

As for the couple’s holiday plans, William will be working on Christmas Day so he will not be with the Queen and family at Sandringham House in Norfolk, England. It remains to be seen if Kate will join him in North Wales or spend the day with her own family.

[From People]

There are very few members of the royal family that I would like to share a meal with. Prince Harry, obviously, although I would prefer to eat my lunch off of his ginger-furred naked body. I’d also like to meet and eat with Prince Andrew, just because he seems like he’d be a hoot. Let’s see… who else? You know Anne is probably a royal bitch, and pretty boring. Edward is funky. The Duke of Edinburgh? Ew. And the other assorted royals… blah. So I’d really only want to meet the Queen, Andy and Harry. I should invite them ’round for lunch at my house!

Definitely agree about meeting Andy & Harry….I think the “spares” have a much easier & fun life compared to the numero unos. I think you’re spot on about Anne being a bitch, too…she just gives off that vibe.
Her daughter Zara looks like she’s wild, though.

Oooo…just noticed the sterling silver tissue box holder, beats my Martha Stewart plastic one from KMart.

  3. guesty says:

hate the way william smiles…it’s so cheesy & kinda fem.

  4. Luci says:

I really like the queen of england’s style

  5. fanny says:

Even the queen looks more royal in purple. What a great color and love that feathery hat. This is exciting for Kate.

  6. Hautie says:

I swear Elizabeth has the best collection of brooches.

That diamond and sapphire one, she is wearing on the purple coat, is amazing.

  7. Exiled says:

I wonder if he was prodded into getting married as he is 1st in line for the throne and the Queen isn’t getting any younger… hmmm (I smell another Charles and Di)

  8. JulieM says:

Um, Exiled: William is second in line, not first. Charles is first, and contrary to popular opinion, nothing will keep him off the throne. He will never be passed over for William.

Waity No Longer Katie got what she wanted, or did she? Let’s see where they are in 5 years.

I think that Andy is kind of dim, even by the standards of his family. Anne on the other hand, precisely because she is a bitch, a passed over bitch, who every time one of her brothers have a son, or even when the sons have sons, becomes less and less central, could be quite interesting. I think that she is probably the most intelligent in her family (again, not saying much), and I admire her good works, all done without the media games that Diana was prone to.

  10. Hautie says:

I always had alot of respect for Anne.

She knew what a nightmare her life had been growing up with the constant public attention.

So she chose not to have her children given titles upon birth. But were given the option to once they were of age. And neither of them took that offer up with Granny Queen. So they have gotten to live a private life.

  11. Feebee says:

Poor Anne, she does give off a cold vibe but I think it’s because her face looks like she just sucked on a lemon most of the time. To have raised wild child Zara and Peter, the way they turned out, she must be alright. And she took up with then married a younger (?) man. Though I’d look pissed too if in the 21st century something still hadn’t been done about equalising the royal succession plan.

I don’t think Kate would find the royal lunch too daunting… she’s going to be queen of the grandkids and has probably won over the aunt and uncles (at least superficially). No, it’s going to be the the courtiers who’ll get on her after marriage that will be annoying and daunting at times.

  12. javagirl1 says:

How nerve racking for Kate! And so much pressure. If I were in her shoes, I probably would have gotten drunk and made an ass out of myself at the luncheon.

  13. REALIST says:

OMG, I hope she got the Rx for Valium I advised earlier-and took one or two before!

  14. Rita says:

I very much admire the queen. I think she and she alone has saved the throne with her great and good steadfast character but there are four women I would never want to get cross-ways with.

    In no particular order:
    The Queen
    Kaiser
    CB
    Judge Judy

  15. Bobby the K says:

Katie looks very sensual and intimate whereas Di was pretty.

Would the lunch be that daunting? Hasn’t she met and mingled with everyone for like five years?

I’d like to meet the royals as well. I remember when i asked journalist Phillip Knightley what it was like to speak with the queen. He said among other things she told him a dirty joke, and yes i asked, no he didn’t tell…

  16. Raven says:

Maybe she looked so happy because the luncheon went well. Any engaged person with tough in-laws to be is always thrilled when the crap doesn’t hit the fan at family events.

  17. clorismetchum says:

HA! the queen looks like that guy from “little britain, usa” in drag.

  18. Fue McCormick says:

I’m not one for those “crazy hats with long hair” fans we see so often in Britain, but the Queen always wears great hats! (Off-topic) And the brooches: I think someone with $25k to spare should buy the Queen that Faberge Spider Brooch that Rick bought from a seller on Pawn Stars … or buy it for me! … because THAT is a damn fine brooch! If I were Rick’s wife, I’d have closed the Biscuit Factory until he gave it to me!

  19. Diane says:

    Lol Rita !

  20. RhymesWithSilver says:

I love Elizabeth II’s style, but that last hat is verging into Boy George territory.

  21. Fishlips says:

“I’m sure they gnawed on the official royal biscuits (real biscuits, not “the royal jewels”).”

I’m still tickled by the “biscuit factory” joke from last week.

  22. Tory Perotta says:

Excellent data. This precisely what I’ve been in search of. I know extra individuals who’ll find this beneficial as well so, I you’ll want to pass this along to them too. Lots of thanks.
