After Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter announced their split late Monday, it took less than 48 hours for a steady stream of rumors to swirl that Michael C. Hall had been carrying on with his leading lady in this past season of Dexter, Julia Stiles. LaineyGossip had a “blind” about it, claiming that after their story lines had been filmed, they had fallen in love. To make things more complicated, our source told us that while yes, Michael and Jennifer were separated months ago, Jennifer was also carrying on with other men. Anyway, Julia must have thought the “homewrecker” allegation would probably damage her career and her reputation, because she issued a statement (through her rep) to E! News:
As soon as Dexter costars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter announced their real-life marriage was over, the rumors began.
The internet was flooded with claims that Hall has been romancing Julia Stiles, who plays his love interest on the hit Showtime series.
So, what’s the real deal? Stiles insists she and Hall are not seeing each other.
“I have absolutely nothing to do with the split between Michael and Jennifer,” Stiles says in a statement released by her rep. “We are good friends and enjoyed working together. This is a personal matter between them, and we should respect their privacy. Although I too prefer to keep my private life, private—I felt compelled to dispel the rumors I was somehow the cause for this matter.”
Hall and Carpenter told Entertainment Weekly early this week that they were divorcing after almost two years of marriage, explaining that they have “been separated for some time.”

Hm… on the face of it, I will believe her, I guess. Even though I think the wording is interesting. I’m nit-picking, I know. But it’s interesting that she says that she “had absolutely nothing to do with the split between Michael and Jennifer” BUT she doesn’t specifically deny that she and Michael are in a relationship now, or were in a relationship before he and Carpenter announced their split. She’s denying that she was the cause of the split, not that she and Michael are boning. Fascinating. Splitting Hairs: America’s Past-time.

Not that it matters, but I believe her.For now. I am waiting for more compelling evidence that these two are actually doing it and for how long it’s been going on.
I agree with wht you say, i also found the wording strange…. Still I have to repeat, MCH has the worst tsate in women, and I don’t mean by that that I find only people attractive when the have fake boobs or wethever, but this 2 I find to be very much not appealing

Its odd that she released a statement so quickly. I didn’t think the rumor had taken off that strongly and her denial just brings more attention to it. However, I do believe that she isn’t the cause of the split. Michael and Jennifer probably already unofficially split and moved on a while ago. I hate when people throw around the “homewrecker” card. That set must have been tense. Or maybe I just like Julia Stiles too much to see her in a bad light. I read she took a break from acting to go to college and doesn’t rub it in our faces a la Portman!
Yeah, she did go to college and have been working on theather and she writes beautifully and all, but she always kept herself low key. I guess she’s just interest on acting side of all this. Too bad she got caught up in this rumors being that she has always kept her private life very guarded. But i understand the statement beeung released so quikly. Being told that you are the other women when you are not that kind of person is awfull, and insulting, i think. I’m glad she cleared that up. I would be disappointed if it were true.

I thought the exact same thing when I read her statement; she might not be the cause, but I think they’re dating now.
And why not. If they’ve been split since August but were trying to keep it quiet during the season, it’s not salacious. I thought it was pretty telling that they announced their split the day after the Dexter finale.
Meh. I think the MCH/JC relationship just ran it’s course. I saw them at ComiCon back earlier in the year, and they seemed to despise each other. Way before JS came into the picture.
I always thought Jennifer and Michael made a real odd couple.
I think I like Julia and Michael together. I dont think Julia was the cause but she’s there to soothe him I am sure..
I love Julia Stiles and I’m not surprised she issued a denial this quickly. Nothing I hate worse than being accused of something I didn’t do so I completely understand. So yeah, I don’t think she broke them up but I agree with Kaiser that doesn’t mean she’s not with him NOW. If that’s the case, I’m cool with that (since it can’t be me :D). I also believe that he and Jennifer either grew apart or wanted different things and were fighting, that the split wasn’t quite amicable and that they had been separated a while before they announced their split. I’ll be watching for further developments. Just cause I love the players.

That must be celeb rep’s 101, to deny part, but not all, of a story. So who knows what the truth is.
I still find it suspect that all actors say they were “only friends on the set” and the relationship deepened after filming. Yeah, right, we all believe that.
@di butler I saw video of them at Comic Con, and I remember when Michael C. Hall came on stage Jennifer Carpenter gave him a ..”look.” It’s hard to describe how she looked at him, but it was just cold and odd. When I saw that I thought there must be trouble in their relationship. It’s amazing how powerful body language is.
I think Julia Stiles released her statement at just the right time. The rumor had already spread like wildfire through the Internet gossip sites, and had just caught the interest of mainstream news blogs. The rumor was that she’d had an affair with Michael C. Hall while filming season 5 of “Dexter,” which led to the married couple’s separation and impending divorce. She said in her statement that she had nothing to do with their separation or divorce … what more was there to say?
Okay, let’s try and time-line this sucker …
Julia Stiles was signed to “Dexter” season 5 during the first week of June, but she wasn’t scheduled to appear in the series until the very end of episode 3, so she might not have even arrived on the “Dexter” set until the end of June or first week of July.
There seemed to be tension between Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter when they appeared at Comic-Con during July 21st – 24th, then the couple separated on August 9th.
There was a rumor floating around last Spring that Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter were going to try to make a baby once Michael’s chemo treatments for his cancer ended. He went into remission and finished with his chemo treatments at the end of April. There has been no ‘baby’ news.
Of course, no body can know for sure (except those personally involved), but I think whatever ‘happened’ to the couple’s marriage happened before Julia Stiles arrived on set, and she just got caught up in the fallout. I also think Showtime may have asked the couple to hold off on any separation/divorce news until after the season 5 finale–which, unfortunately, made things look back for Julia Stiles. Michael C. Hall and Julia Stiles probably are, or will soon be, dating … but I’m okay with that. I’m just glad Julia didn’t knowingly cheat with a still committed, married man.
I have a bone to pick with Lainey’s blurb. 1) Would Showtime really allow the star of “Dexter,” Showtime’s number one hit series, to jet off to New York City with the season 5 Guest Star, just to hang out at a party while the show was still in full production? 2) In the blurb where the ‘unnamed’ source stated that he saw Michael C. Hall seriously checking out Julia’s butt, he said it happened “on set last week, during a break in filming.” I just want to point out that the “Dexter” season 5 finale was wrapped and in the can by November 15, so he couldn’t have seen anything ‘last week.’
Yup I agree with Emma and others that Julia Stiles was probably not the cause of the JC/MCH split, but she was probably a complicating factor who got caught up in the whole thing without realizing what she was getting into when she first signed onto this role. 🙂

It’s a bummer all around because both MCH and JC seemed super cool to me, and I don’t know much about Julia Stiles but she seems aiight. I seriously don’t know how they can go on with season 6 with all this drama going on. But maybe enough time will have passed by the time they start filming again that it won’t be QUITE so bad?
One other random thing: On TMZ yesterday they posted JC’s divorce papers that she filed, and it shows that JC is requesting him to pay for her lawyer, which seemed very interesting to me. It seems to suggest that she pins the failure of the marriage on him, doesn’t it? I don’t know anything about the ins and outs of divorce though, and what is considered “typical” and what is not.
Oh one other thing too, does anyone have links to those Comic Con videos?? I am dying to see them now that you mention all the tension. I only saw clips of them over the summer but not the entire videos.

How gross for Julia to have to even issue a statement about this. Whether she is or isn’t dating MCH now, I’d hazard a guess his split with Jennifer had little if anything to do with Julia. That’s just my gut feeling.

She never denied a lot of things but it doesn’t mean she did them.
My friend Cam, who is an electrician on the Dexter set, said he never noticed anything unusual between Michael C Hall and Julia Stiles. He did, however, note a lot of tension between Jennifer and Michael. Apparently, it was pretty much an open secret that the marriage was over. So, while I don’t really care for Julia Stiles, I sincerely doubt she was any kind of a third party in the breakup.
Well, just a few months back [I’m guessing the Lumen season wrapped earlier this summer] Michael C. was picking up chicks in clubs, hardcore, so if there was anything with Julia it couldn’t have been that serious.
I got the feeling from my source that Jennifer was a bit sad or kind of rebounding by throwing parties and hitting on somewhat random dudes involved in the film.
If Julia Stiles had nothing to do with this, why issue a denial? Why not just enjoy the free publicity and let time show that there’s no relationship there? Homewrecking certainly hasn’t hurt the careers of Elizabeth Taylor, Alicia Keyes, Leanne Rimes, Clare Danes, Julia Roberts or that other one I won’t mention because I’m tired of the “loonie” emails.

Actually, “Dexter” season 5 (the Lumen season) wrapped production in November 2010 (the season finale was filmed during the second week of November), which is why I doubt the part of Lainey’s Blind that states Michael C. Hall and Julia Stiles jetted off to NYC for a Halloween party in October.
And is this a reliable source who says that Michael was trolling clubs over the summer for women? They would have to be, because Michael didn’t finish his Chemo treatments until the end of April, and Chemo leaves a patient pretty weak. I heard that he had to work hard over the summer to re-build his strength and to get in shape for season 5. That doesn’t’ leave much time for trolling, does it?
