Very interesting… on Thursday, December 23rd, Ryan Reynolds officially filed for divorce from Scarlett Johansson. TMZ reports that Ryan and ScarJo coordinated the filing so that Ryan “went first” and ScarJo “responded” to the filing at the same time. So… even though (my opinion) Ryan has been whining like a baby to whoever will listen about how ScarJo is a horrible, immature, self-absorbed, frigid monster, they are still on good enough terms to coordinate the end of their marriage. Almost as if ScarJo just wants to get the hell out, and she doesn’t care if she looks like the bad guy?

Scarlett’s response to Ryan’s petition was filed at the same time — a strong indication the two of them coordinated the court filings.
Neither party is asking for spousal support. Sources tell TMZ there is no prenup, and Ryan made more money than Scarlett during their 2-year marriage.
Ryan lists the date of separation as December 14, 2010. Scarlett agrees on the date.
Since everything they earned is community property, presumably it will be divided 50/50, though the petitions say property rights are yet to be determined.
Although the divorce is friendly, they aren’t taking any chances. Ryan has hired disso-queen Laura Wasser, and Scarlett has retained Lynn Soodik.

The actor, 34, filed for divorce from Johansson, 26, Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court. A source told PEOPLE recently that the couple grew apart under the strain of managing two thriving careers.
They were married in a private ceremony in Canada in 2008.

People Magazine and Us Weekly have taken suspiciously pro-Ryan stances in their reporting, which is definitely a head-scratcher. My take is still that Ryan is pushing a version of the story in which ScarJo is the villain and Ryan is the poor, defenseless nice guy who just wanted babies and a wife who gave up her career to be at his beck and call. You’ve got to wonder why he’s pushing that version so hard… is it because ScarJo was screwing around (with Liev Schreiber and God knows who)? Or is it because Ryan got dumped for good reasons, but ScarJo doesn’t care enough to make those reasons public? Or a little from Column A, a little from Column B…?

As I’ve said previously, marriage is work. If neither party is willing to put in the effort it takes to have a successful relationship, it will fail. It’s like not watering a plant, then acting surprised when it dies.
I doubt their divorce will have “no drama” since their separation has already had some.
Maybe he was too embarrassed to stay married to someone who put out the kind of music Scarjo did. It was pretty tragic.
Please don’t bring Liev Schreiber into this. He did not have an affair with this woman. He is happy with a REAL woman, Noami Watts. They only worked together in a play. Stop scandalizing this man. It’s crazy.
Maybe this divorce is as amicable as it seems. Maybe these two just decided they weren’t right for each other and agreed that they would just end the marriage without a bunch of nastyness. I know the rags are looking for as much dirt as possible but maybe, just maybe, there is no dirt to find.
There is very little significance to who files for divorce first. Evidently, they both filed on the same day and they will each leave the marriage with what they brought to the marriage. There is nothing to divide, nothing to fight over, no children, they both just want it to end. There is no “smoking gun” here, people. Move on. And have a Merry Christmas.
Why always thinking that every diviorce is due to some shady hidden scandal ?
Many marriages end up for a simple reason : love isn’t there anymore. As someone else quote, you have to work at it and work at keeping love alive.
There may be tenderness left, friendly feelings but no love. Then the marriage ends up on an amicable note.

Ryan wanted to marry hot, YOUNG Scarlett 2 years ago, now he’s whining cuz Scarlett is YOUNG, can’t have it both ways Ryan.
Maybe RYAN needs to GROW UP.
I can totally see ScarJo not caring how she looks to the media, so long as she gets the hell out of that marriage. It’s called cooperation (who knows, she probably got wise advice from family and friends). Ryan probably asked her if he could file first so he doesn’t look like he got dumped. She probably doesn’t have a care in the world, as long as they undo this mess ASAP.

kind of seems like they just gave up on their marriage the first chance they got not to mention they got hitched fairly quick too, didn’t they? someone pointed out to me that because celebrities don’t have to worry about money and employment, there’s nothing stopping them from rushing into relationships. a regular couple would worry about saving up for their wedding, a down payment on a home ect. but celebrities can just jump into things and once they want out they can afford the best lawyers and they have more then one home they know they wont end up in their parents basement. unfortunately it also means they don’t put much effort to their relationships so they dont last as much.
If he, or his PR team, put those poor-Ryan rumors out there, then I think he’s the one who needs to grow up, not her. I’m guessing he has a huge ego, and she probably didn’t cater to him. She realized that it was a never-ending battle and cut her losses.

He is a piece of work and has been a jackass these past couple weeks playing the ‘woe is me victim’ card so my guess is that Scarjo is just tryin to keep her head down and get outta that marriage the quickest way possible!
I don’t think that Scarlet is coming out looking like the bad guy in this. Quite the opposite, in fact.
He’s been passive aggressively making statements (or having someone else do so for him) in regards to reasons behind the divorce, which place blame on Scarlet more than himself. (as opposed to simply stating the split was amicable, equally accepting responsibility for the end of the relationship, & expressing regret…which would have been classy.)
Scarlet hasn’t responded in defense to his statements or the uneven amount of blame being placed on her, hasn’t insulted him or started talking about their private business, and in my opinion, has retained some dignity in the process.
I’m not a fan of hers, & normally she annoys me, but in this, I do respect making the decision (or her PR team making the decision) not to react as he has. He just looks like a complete douche.

@ Kara – I don’t have links, but rumours of his ego lead me to believe it’s EPIC! I believe Lainey has the DL on how rude he’s been, to fans especially. No one believed me when I first commented on his ego in the first story about the end of this marriage (except the two or three who knew of Lainey’s documentation of his bad behaviour – thanks for the support, ladies!) but that boy has an ego the size of Canada! And yes. I’m also certain his being named ‘sexiest man alive’ has done nothing to diminish his douchey ever growing massive ego. Hotness aside on Depp, but I really like the way he deals with his fans, not the least bit stuck up from what we can tell. Calling them his ’employers’, and expressing what seems like genuine gratitude.
I agree. If you see negative information about someone repeatedly, people who aren’t connected and mention his rudeness at different times (as opposed to jumping on the bandwagon when others have talked about it), then it’s really easy to believe he’s a complete asshole.
