Some of you ladies are big fans of Joe Manganiello. To me, he seems like dumb, interchangeable beefcake, and a dude who wears his shirts (blouses) much too tight. But I “get” why he’s appealing – he’s pretty, he seems nice, and he doesn’t seem too complicated. Michael Fassbender would be complicated – you would crush on him for a long time, and then finally he would invite you to dinner, and then he would screw you and write poetry for you and break your heart, and you would never be able to love again. Joe Manganiello is the dude you meet at a bar who smells like beer and Axe Body Spray, and when you get drunk enough, you fool around with him in the bathroom because you don’t even want to take him home with you. Just my thoughts.
Anyway, Joe is rumored to be taking over the most neutered of all superheroes, Superman. Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder have been searching for an actor for a long time to take over the cape, and they think they’ve found their Clack Kent in Joe.
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… a werewolf? As ‘Batman’ chief Christopher Nolan and ‘The 300’ director Zack Snyder look to produce a series reboot for the ‘Superman’ franchise, his team is looking for a new Man of Steel — and they may have one in ‘True Blood’ star Joe Manganiello.
Manganiello, who plays a werewolf on the show, is the hot name to play Superman in the film, according to the LA Times.
The actor spoke to Extra, saying, “It’s out there in the ether, we’ll see. I would be honored, I love Zack Snyder, I love Christopher Nolan, I’m a huge fan of both of them.”
He already has some experience with superhero films, having played Flash Thompson in the ‘Spiderman’ films.
Previously, Jon Hamm had been thought to be under consideration for the role, but said at the Golden Globes that he was too old for the part.
Manganiello is at least one person’s Superman: he got engaged to actress/model Audra Marie in September.

Yes, I’ve heard that The Hamm was being “considered” as was Matt Bomer, best known as Neal from White Collar. Although I love both Hamm and Bomer, both of them would have sucked as Superman. Superman isn’t angst-y and deep like The Hamm. Nor is he too pretty for words and able to wear the hell out of a suit, like Bomer. No, I have to admit, Joe is the right actor for Clark Kent/Superman. Beefcake, good body, vague. Incapable of angst. Good pick!

Tom Welling seems both hotter and smarter than him.
I know smallville’s storyline sucks and I don’t follow that show, but I saw a bit of an episode where he actually turns into SUPERMAN, and the dude seriously pulled it of.
I say pick some unknown guy or give it to Tom already.

I think he definitely has the superman hair going on…Strong facial features. Would love to see a picture of him without all the facial hair. His body is banging. Never seen him act, so I can’t comment on that that. But, yes, I could see him as superman.
He is so f’ing hot! I don’t know about seeing him as Superman, but I’d like to see him in my bed.
I think he is hot until he opens his mouth. He gives off no charisma and isn’t leading man material. Superman is one franchise that they should retire for another decade or so even though the last one wasn’t bad.
He’s a freaking TERRIBLE actor. All he can do is play a meathead.
As a “True Blood” fan, I used to follow him on Twitter, but had to stop when all he did was promote himself and plead to be Superman. He also said what he likes best about his fiancee is how she cooks and the clothes she wears (or something along those lines)……
Aside from the abs, totally missing on the “Super.”
Superman has to have an upright, Dudley Doright genuine love for truth, justice and the American way and lack of awareness of his unrelenting hotness.
Plus he has to be able to act. Reeves has yet to be replaced, his comedy parts were as good as Carey Grant and love scenes seemed sweet. My memory of
Christopher Reeves is enough to get my patriotic and other juices flowing.

I think he’d be fabulous, but then again I thought Brandon Routh kicked ass as Clark/Superman.

He is ridiculously hot, but Superman is supposed to be more, I don’t know, preppyish. (Brandon Routh was good choice looks-wise, he just sucked and had sucky material.) I think Joe’s actually TOO rugged. Unless they’re doing a gritty reboot where Superman is all ripped and pi$$ed. Then, carry on.

Bad choice. He is one of that actors that just annoys you for no reason. He is nice looking guy, and in True Blood his character was nice… but still he just annoyed me. He was having too much screen time. While you can look Denis O’Hare (Russel) whole day and enjoy his every line, this Joe guy was annoying and i couldn’t wait till he will say his words and vanish.
And I think that that Matt Bomer guy will be perfect choice for Superman. He is just so dreamy. Has such a piece full face. Your mood gets higher just by looking at his pictures.
I’m the lone man out but I think he’d be a great Superman. I’m all about whatever Nolan chooses … he’s awesome at choosing leading men IMO. I think he can honestly pull the part off .. he’s done a great job so far in True Blood. Can they cast someone better? Sure, but I just hope they don’t go for the usual blond blue eyed army type. I think Joe could take it a bit darker … I don’t want the usual preppy superman. I mean what’s the point in remaking something the exact same way that’s been done for 50 years?

I’d like to know why Tom Welling is not being considered. If he’s out of the running, then Joe looks good to me. He became a fan favorite when he showed up on True Blood so maybe he’ll win Superman fans over as well.
