Reese Witherspoon seems to be a down-to-earth non-diva, like she’d browse the bargain rack at The Gap just as easily as she’d wear couture. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have expensive tastes, as her new fiance Jim Toth is finding out. Fortunately, Jim apparently doesn’t mind and makes enough money as an agent (for Robert Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire, amongst others) to treat Reese in the manner she likes.
Jim Toth’s dream came true when his girlfriend of less than a year, Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, accepted his Christmas proposal. And he spares no expense in treating her as an A-lister should be treated. “Jim won’t let Reese pay for anything,” a friend of the Hollywood agent tells In Touch.
In a town where extravagant rings are the norm, Jim insisted on the best [engagement ring] money could buy for Reese. “He was drawn to the rarity of the stone,” says jeweler William Goldberg, who custom-designed the spectacular 4-carat sparkler.
While half a million may seem like small change to Reese, 34, who raked in $32 million in 2010 according to Forbes, the ring is an expression of the highly dedicated Creative Artists Agency employee’s love for Reese.
…Now that he’s marrying one of Hollywood’s highest earners, Jim wants to provide her with the things he feels she deserves. “Reese is one of those ladies you need to spoil,” explains the friend, although a rep for Reese denies the story. “She is not materialistic, but she is accustomed to the guy paying for things — she’s Southern and traditional that way.”
And chivalrous Jim is more than happy to oblige. “He opens doors for her, and he holds her hand,” notes the friend. “Jim thinks Reese is so amazing and believes she deserves the world. He knows she is a great woman and mom, so he tries to show her that in every way possible.”
[In Touch Weekly, print edition, February 7, 2011]
Although they say Reese’s rep denies it, this story is very sweet, making me think the rep isn’t entirely unhappy about it.
In Touch estimates that Jim spent $450,000 on Reese’s engagement ring. It’s a rare Ashoka cut-diamond — “only 10 percent of gems can be cut in the unique shape.”
He also reportedly spends $26,000 for front row Lakers seats; $15,000 on Reese’s favorite restaurants like Giorgio Baldi, Shutters and Red O; plus, he drives a leased $200,000 Mercedes-Benz.
These two seem like a good couple. Actresses usually have better luck with men who work in the industry but who aren’t actors, like Julia Roberts and her cinematographer husband. There’s less competition for the spotlight, I think, and there aren’t as many ego clashes. Hopefully, the money won’t run out!

Very cute couple! Reese strikes me as being level-headed and not a diva at all, so I think her marriage with Jim Toth will be a happy one.
Good for her. She deserves it after her douche ex-husband (and Jakey, too).
Gotta confess that I didn’t care one way or another for Reese until I heard what she said to Michelle Williams (essentially: Suck it up, baby. Life could be worse.)
Now, I’m all Team Spoon.
It seems unethical for the jeweler to comment publicly UNLESS Jim received a large celebrity discount for the ring.
I’m a big fan of Reeses’ and am glad she has found the right guy.
Good for him, a real gentlemen.
He (Jim Toth) looks different from picture to picture. This is totally off topic but I have noticed lately how tall and beautiful Reese’s daughter is. I bet she will be a model in 7 to 8 years. As douchey as he seems, Ryan Phiillliiipppeeee and Reese seem like really great parents.
Is that really him in the last picture??? Looks totally different!
I am glad she is happy and he is treating her well. I wanted her to end up with Jakey because I heart him, but obviously it wasn’t meant to be. It seems like this is a better match. And I have to say – the picture of him in the gray suit – he seems to have packed an extra sock or somethin down there – DAYUM!
That’s so sweet. I love a man who spoils his woman.
WIsh I had one lol
Fire – The last photo is from Fame Pictures, and they also mislabel photos. They claim it’s Jim Toth… it looks sort of like him, it’s just that he’s usually clean-shaven.
She is so cute and pretty. I love that ring
cute couple
I want a Jim Toth, please. I love her and am thrilled she’s found happiness =)
William Goldberg has a patent on the ashoka cut hence him pimping up the rarity of the stone. You have to assume that as soon as a jeweler speaks the person was given a discount.
Still. Insanely beautiful ring.
I want that polka dot dress & those shoes. HOT!!! I loved this post as it reminds me of my very own Jim Toth. I just had a big swoon moment for my husband, who spoils me to death. I have to be careful what I say because he will make it happen or it will be delivered & on my door step the next day. SWOOOON!!
OMG!!! I will make my husband read my comment & the polka dot dress & shoes will be here tomorrow. YAY!!
Haha.. I have a hunch that spinner (#13) may be a teenager fantasizing about her future married life?
Kaiser – I think they got it wrong this time. I looked at the whole series from this “shoot” and this guy is not Jim Toth. They have totally different hairlines, eyebrows, smiles, etc. and they don’t hold hands once. Those two definitely don’t shy away from holding hands in public. Anyway – sorry to focus on this when we should be talking about Jim Toth’s gentlemanly ways (and his big package!) ;o)
ummm…Iris…I have been married going on 30 years. I have 4 Granddaughters & an absolutely incredible husband. I have no doubt how blessed I am & never take it for granted. Thanks for the compliment of perceiving me as a teenager…I think.
Iris: Agree. No one writes a post like that unless they are 13 or 14 years old.
My husband is really generous and loving, but I never have SWOOOON!! moments…
@Iris —
That, or someone forgot to take their Lithium today…
i think she is jinxing herself by having the expensive wedding and spouting about how great he is
@spinner:
So you’re in your mid-50’s and you are writing SWOOOON!!! OMG!!
Dude you’re my mom’s age, so it’s still weird
@ la_chica…you don’t know what you’re missing.
It’s good to swoon. I have swoon moments with my husband from time to time. It’s nice. I appreciate him, not all the time, but I do know how lucky I am, as it sounds like spinner is….
Thanks Fire…much appreciated.
@ la_chica…& don’t call me Dude.
The guy in the last picture is too tall and skinny to be JT. Maybe it’s his brother? When a guy spoils you that’s when you know you have a keeper. (as long as he isn’t an addict of some kind)
i still have swoon moments with my husband of 10 years….
Of course he thinks she’s amazing. She makes $32mil a year!! Would he be this into Reese if she wasn’t a Hollywood A lister?
LOL at the cynicism. I’m with spinner. I have been married for 25 years come this May, and I most definitely still have regular swoon moments with my lovely husband (and being the recipient of occasional spin me around and kiss me moments when no one is looking certainly doesn’t hurt!). 🙂
I also say OMG. I have teenagers, what can I say? They keep you young.
LOL I haven’t swooned in years….and I am no where near 50. Not sure WHAT that says about me :/
I swooned once. It was lovely. Go spinner!! 🙂
@LuckyLilGem, Jim probably makes almost as much as Reese does.. he’s an agent that has worked with Forest Whitaker, Scarlett Johansson, Matthew McConaughey, Rachel Bilson, and Robert Downey Jr. They compliment each other financially.
Shia Labeuf is beginning to look like Russell Crowe – and that last photo kind of looks like Jim – they have the same feet, and taste in shoes, but his hair is farther back, his nose is skinnier, and the dong is not showing up as much on him.
When I see Keith Urban video’s (esp Somebody like you) I start to swoon a little…
My husband still makes me swoon, but it has nothing to do with whether or not he satisfies my every materialistic desire. He cracks me up, is a wonderful father, and still thinks I’m beautiful despite the stretch marks and extra chunk I’ve added to my resume since we met. That kind of devotion is a hell of a lot more precious to me than another pair of shoes!
28 years with my husband (24 legal -wink- ) and he can still stop my heart, make me swoon, and also want to hit him over the head with the broom, sometimes.
Life is good when you marry your soul mate.
Shes one of the people who give a much needed ‘breath of fresh air’ feeling to the typical Hollywood or ‘Hollywierd’ type..and shes ond of those naturally talented actresses who doesn’t ever seem like shes ever trying to hard, sort of like she was just born for this in life which nowadays is hard to find as everyones in the business just to ‘be in the business’
Hope this is ‘the one’ for Reese..GORGEOUS ring.
Good for Reese. This is a cute story. I like that shes with a not famous guy. It makes her seem grounded and like a real person. It doesn’t look like Jim in that last picture though.
Ava looks so gorgeous btw! What a cutie
LOL, somebody does not seem to get saying her hubby would get her this designer dress and shoes from a pic, is what makes her seem ridiculous.
@ Jen Jen…Ridiculous?? No. You have no idea.
Lovely! I hope she’s happy.
Reese is an ordinary-looking woman. I truly don’t get the hysterics about her looks.
If he truly (on credit) bought it for half a million, I thought that guy doesn’t even have close to the kind of money to do that. He knows he’s got a rich woman. Maybe I’m wrong and he’s wealthy. I don’t know what CAA agents make.
Ok….enough about these two……..and IMO Reese either looks good in the clothes she wears or looks really bad and likes she is trying to hard for the sake of fashion…..that last photo…horrid!!
Her kids are huge! You don’t pay attention and suddenly they grow up or something.
“If you want to look younger, rent smaller children.” — some classic actress who I can’t remember.
Good for you, Majosha, for caring about the things that matter in a marriage. It’s great that you have a man who gives you those things!
SPINNER!!!! Bless you & Your Husband!!! very few have that blessing now!!! enjoy!!! xxoxx
