Strapless and red were the trends at the SAGs last night, and there were some elegant hits and some laughably over the top misses. First we’ll cover some of the women of television, and you may notice that we’ve missed a few but there will be more fashion posts to come.

Julianna Margulies was in scarlet Yves Saint Laurent that was gorgeous in photographs, but looked like she was about to pop out of it on camera. The bodice was too structured and there was something off about the bustline, but overall the dress was lovely. I like that she accessorized with bold earrings and no necklace, which seemed to be a trend last night.

I loved Christine Baranski’s simple red lightly draped gown with just a hint of cleavage. She really worked that dress and her gold drop earrings and single red and gold bangle were the perfect accessories.

Edie Falco was amazing in a strapless red Carolina Herrera with a light flower print. She chose a black clutch and also went with understated accessories. Edie told TV Guide’s Chris Harrison that she has “people that I trust who help me with these things. They get all excited about it and I kind of stand there while they do stuff.” She has some talented people.

Julia Stiles was in a strapless dip dye dress that transitioned abruptly from dark blue to stark white. She followed the jewelry trend of the night with some bold earrings and no necklace. I’m not feeling this dress and I find her eye makeup overdone, but I like her hair and it could be worse.

Pregnant Jane Krakowski was cute in a silver one sleeve Badgley Mischka. I love it when pregnant women rock fitted dresses.

Jane Leeves was in a silver fishtail dress that transitioned from light to dark silver. I don’t particularly like it, but it shows off her athletic figure and it’s not a bad dress.

Jayma Mays wore a daring asymmetric peach gown with one gold cap sleeve. Normally I wouldn’t find this dress so pretty, but when she was on the red carpet I just saw her from the top up and the dress was striking with her coloring. It doesn’t photograph as well, though, and as the Fug Girls say she may suffer from the “scroll down.” I love her hair and makeup though, they’re perfection.

Dianna Agron’s navy blue strapless sparkly gown wasn’t as bad as some of the fashion she’s worn to past events, but her overdone raccoon eye makeup, orange lipstick and swept back hair pushed her into fashion fail territory. She’s such a lovely girl and she never quite gets it right. Plus is she wearing black shoes with a navy blue dress?

Glee’s Heather Morris, Jenna Ushkowitz and Amber Riley are dressed to the nines for the prom. Jenna’s dress isn’t quite as over the top as Heather’s or Amber’s but it’s close.

Jane Lynch’s puffy purple Ali Rahimi gown was ridiculous. She’s so tall that it only served to emphasize how fussy the dress was. Her wife, physician Lara Embry, wore a striking blue version of Juliana Margulies’ red dress. Maybe Lynch should defer to Embry for fashion advice.

Angie Harmon wore a pink feathered Monique Lhuillier gown that made her look like a fairy flamingo. On the red carpet, she told TV Guide channel that it was her favorite gown she’d ever worn other than her wedding dress. I wonder what her wedding dress looked like.
