Nicole Kidman was honored this weekend at the neverending Santa Barbara Film Festival (seriously, I think it’s been going on for a month…?). Nicole picked up some kind of acting award, probably for Rabbit Hole, the role which has yearned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Nicole wore this white/cream Nina Ricci dress for the event. Thoughts on the dress… I don’t really care for Nicole in white or cream, just because she can look so good in other colors. That being said, I like this. It has a slight matronly vibe that is appropriate for the event, but it’s still chic and beautiful. It seems like the kind of dress an older society woman would wear to a charity luncheon, right? But that ends up being a good look for Nicole. Here’s more about her award:
NICOLE KIDMAN was the toast of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in California on Saturday (05Feb11) as she was honoured with a top prize.
The Moulin Rouge! star received the coveted Cinema Vanguard Award, which recognises stars who take artistic risks and make a significant contribution to film, at a special tribute as part of the 10-day event.
Taking to the stage to accept the trophy, Kidman told the audience, “I suppose that’s in my blood. I don’t even see it as taking a risk, I just see it as staying true to my heart and instinct.”
The honour has previously been presented to Vera Farmiga, Christoph Waltz and Peter Sarsgaard.

Good for her! Even though I’m no longer a fan of Nicole Kidman in general, I have to admit, she’s one of the few people I really look forward to seeing during this awards season. When she’s on her game, there’s no one better. And when she’s not on her game, it’s horrible.

Just proves that awards are given just because of someone’s name and connections, rather than true acting / creative abaility
I like her as an actress but I think she looks absolutely hideous here. Those lips! Ay yi yi. And her gorgeous hair is a mess.
Why does she keep straightening her hair? It looks like straw.
It would look so much better and shinier when it’s curly (I myself have naturally curly hair and I know it can look a bit messy at times, but there are rollers and curling irons to fix that, people. I used to straighten it, never will again.)
I like it!! at her age and with her red hair it works fabolous. She is not trying to miniskirt it like J-Lo that is hanging onto pop-culture
I do like her better with her natural curly hair. But you know how we women are……We want what we dont have.
Like the dress but the makeup and hair is bad or maybe she just messed with her classical beautiful face so much she can’t fix it anymore. She has that classic shiny botox face. Sad.

I’m pretty sure my Grandma wore this dress to my wedding, and then was later buried in it. Keith Urban must cry himself to sleep at night. Nicole is totally looking like a botoxed Kylie Minogue in the up close face pic.

I do like the dress, very much. However, Nicole Kidman is a big reason why I no longer color or straighten my hair. She would look far better if went with a more natural look with her hair. Anyone would kill for her hair, yet she insists on torturing it. It’s a shame.
Also, (I hope this won’t draw a lot of ire) I think she has put on a wee bit too much weight FOR HER FRAME. Her tummy is a bit too roundish, and her famous coltish legs are beginning to look matronly. My Very Humble Opinion of course.
I like the dress, but her hair is terrible..
The dress is not bad.
Had she wore a nice pair of sheer hose and a close toe shoe it would have looked more polished.
(At least it was long sleeved. And not some sleeveless summer frock.)
And I am still baffled why no one in LA believes in wearing face powder.

I will say I think her slight pooch of her belly is from her pregnancy.
I realize everyone thinks she faked that pregnancy.
But all I see is the frame of a very slim girl who had a baby. And has that slight pooch.
And I bet she still weighs less than 120 at 5’10.
She needs to observe Kaiser’s “Bitch in a Jewel Tone” comments. Those shoes are awful. I wish this natural beauty would leave her face & hair alone.
yikes, she should get a bunionectomy stat! That said, I could never be a celebrity, because someone like me, examines all the imperfections. I agree the lips are no bueno!

I think the dress is hideous. Also the hemline looks like she cut it herself. The make-up isn’t doing her any favours either. I don’t even like the shoes. So I would say: fail.
yeah white is not her colour. and i really hope that unfinished hems are not a trend. still i quite like nicole in spite of everything.

I think she looks horrible and nothing feminine in her face because of the Botox and lip injections I know she says no more Botox but believe me she does other things similar to Botox otherwise her face would not look like that. Hate the dress on her. Her speech referred to being risky to sticking with Keith. Yes we know that Nicole would stick up even with a dog just to get married and have one or two “biological” child as she and hubby put it.
She looks comfortable in this outfit. I hate the shoes, they’re not flattering…the dress is okay, but her makeup and hair don’t look so great. I think she put this all together herself and was in a hurry.
Her face looks really strange and kind of bloated/melty.
It looks quite different from her usual botoxy look. I wonder what’s going on now? Has she stopped botoxing and the effects are wearing off?

I don’t hate the dress, but I think the belt ruins it. I don’t like the shoes or the hair or her make-up choices. I do like that she’s not trying to dress like a 20-year-old.
The dress is nice but the belt and watch combo ruin it.. why would she put it on with this dress and jewelry? Is she being sponsored by Swatch or something? The shoes are a complete miss with this dress and the makeup ages her terribly. Nicole, please put on a red dress and let your curls do the rest.

Rabbit Hole is very, very good. Wasn’t really a fan of hers before watching it, but came out of that theater with a new respect for her.
F-U-G! The dress washes her out completely & it looks like she got it caught in her belt on accident coming out of the washroom. (& yes I know it’s suppose to look that way). Doesn’t even look like it has a true line. & then there are the shoes. My late aunt wore better w/bunions to contend with. SMH. Such a shame.

She can and has done much better than this. She’s probably very comfortable, though. I think she looks overtired, but with a new addition to the family and everything that’s been going on, who can blame her.
I like the whole bit except for those shoes. Most of all I love the dress on her. The cut is good and the white sets off her hair color. That vibrant lippie color looks fantastic, too. She looks ALIVE. Shoes should go to the Salvation Army immediately.
Nicole has always been attractive and used to be quite the dresser, wearing designer clothing to award shows, etc. I’m afraid her looks just don’t make it into “middle age” so well. Bad colors, horrendous styles, truly ugly shoes, and a crying need for those small paper oil-absorbers that every Botoxed woman needs. She needs to stop mucking about with herself, go natural, and just relax. She’s reached the point where her “look” is hurting, not helping.
It’s weird that her face looks bloated but she is starting to look her age. I like her but she looks really bad in these pics. Not that looking her age is a bad thing but it does seem like she missed the boat and it’s too late to turn around.

Well, her upper lip curls up when she smiles, which makes the look very unnatural. In regards, to the dress her natural skin tone is almost the same color as the dress so it washes her off. I am pretty neutral on her acting. I am inclined more to the she is just a meh actress.
The woman probably is a mess as she has a 2nd baby.. lack of sleep and the restthat goes with being a mother again. the hemline god, how can that be classed as fashion?

Stay away from the lip plumbers Nicole. Watch her movies, when she was younger, she has small lips. Why oh do they all want Jolie lips. Jolies are natural and the fakes look just that, fake.
I think she’s a really good actress, and a total knockout when she leaves her face alone. Alas. Hey–has anyone seen that crazy movie called “Birth”? Really not much of an entertaining film. More “art house”. And very weird. But very emotionally moving. And she’s fantastic in it. Anyone seen it?
@Sue: I’m going to catch a lot of flak for this, but even Jolie is injecting her lips these days. When she was younger, her lips had a different shape to them, and the top lip was smaller than the bottom one. Now, both the upper and the bottom are the same, bloated size. And she has the tell-tale curling action on her top lip that Nicole has in these pics. Look closely. Hollywood is fake.

For the usual classic but chic & pretty Nicole, this is a step in the yawn direction, I have to say.
The material of the dress is so bad and if a very tall woman like her can’t pull it off, then who is gonna wear this?!! Also, the colour combining with those shoes is an obvious disaster.
