Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx star in The Soloist, a film based on a true story about an LA Times journalist who befriended a homeless schizophrenic man who also happened to have attended the prestigious Juilliard school of music. Journalist Steve Lopez wrote several columns about his troubled friend, Nathaniel Ayers, and published the book The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music in April of this year. The story is so compelling that it was made into a screenplay and production was started on the film before the book was released. The Soloist will be out in the US on November 21, just in time for Oscar season. Judging from the trailer it’s likely to be nominated in several categories. It looks like an incredible mix of a highly watchable and meaningful film and I know I’m looking forward to seeing it.
robert downey jr is amazing – the man has 9 lives. i hope he continues with this recent good turn.
That gave me chills.
Oh, sure… now that I posted about this story on the Links thread, I can post here, lol
Basically… I’m right there with ya, Jaybird!
Looking forward to the movie too. Glad to see I’m not the only one who love RDJ. First a thread about Harry Connick Jr. and now Robert Downey Jr…. wait… do I have a thing for juniors? Ick! 😉
Someone needs to send Jamie copies of all his In Living Color comedy performances before his douchewad transformation is complete. It might already be too late though.
Well, does he play the violin or the cello? I’ll go watch the clip, then.
Wow – both. OK, isn’t that pretty rare to be able to play both? That’s amazing. I smell Oscar.
I’m with you, vdantev – I still can picture him in the tight red underwear when Jawanda (was that her name?) tried to rip them off. Or did he play Jawanda?
I do like him (Robert D.) a great deal.. But it seems like he is playing the same character all the time. Kind of like Vince Vaughn. I believe he will
get an Oscar nod. Well deserved.
He is playing the same character all the time? I don’t think so. Tell me what similarities there are between Steve Lopez and Sherlock Holmes and all the other characters he has played.
RDJ’s really got his mojo back. Loving the look of this but then again, I could watch him read the tel directory and be a dribbling, drooling mess. Divine.
Looks good…Foxx really learned how to play the cello, didn’t he? It’s not going to be one of those where every two seconds they cut to someone else’s hands playing?
Geez, i am crying and that was only the trailer!!
The style of writing is quite familiar to me. Have you written guest posts for other blogs?
