I can’t recall hearing much about Mary Stuart Masterson since she starred in films like Some Kind of Wonderful in 1997, Fried Green Tomatoes in 1991 and Benny & Joon in 1993. Kaiser tells me that she remembers her from Law & Order: SVU in a recurring role (from 2004-2007 according to IMDB) and it looks like she was last on the NBC show Mercy which was canceled last year. Masterson also did some work on on Broadway in 2003.
Anyway Masterson just announced that she’s pregnant at 44 with twins! She’s due this summer. She also has a 17 month old son with her husband, actor Jeremy Davidson. Things are going to be busy at their house:
Mary Stuart Masterson is expanding her family – by two.
The actress, 44, and husband Jeremy Davidson are expecting twins this summer. The couple are already parents to a 17-month-old son.
“We are four months along. So balancing career and family is becoming increasingly challenging for me,” Davidson, who stars on Army Wives, tells E! Online. “And in five months we are going to have three kids under the age of 2. We are in happy shock about it.”

Congratulations to Masterson and Davidson! It’s really nice to hear when women have babies after 40, although it might not have been easy for her.

Yay! happy news. Congrats.
That’s wonderful….congrats!
It’s always nice to see people having babies. She’s a little old though, I hope it doesn’t cause her or the babies any issues.
Mary Stewart Masterson in Some kind of Wonderful. UNF UNF UNF! One of my first of many crushes on awesome women.
Watts was the sh*t!

I wish they still made “teen” movies like that now instead of the lame stuff they are pumping out.
Congrats to them!
not only older parents have children with mental/physical issues younger ones do to.
I loved Some King of Wonderful. I miss teen movies that told a legit story. I miss John Hughes movies.
And that is a pretty man, Miss Masterson is married to!
@courtney: Just a short sentence this time instead of your usual paragraph long run-on sentence including some reference to Joanne Woodward or some other actress from 60yrs ago? (Don’t get me wrong–I love Joanne Woodward.)
And yes, women of all ages can potentially have a child with health issues. But it’s a proven fact that the risk of birth defects, such as Down’s Syndrome, skyrockets after the age of 40. As always, I’m wishing only the best for the mom-to-be and her precious babies!
I believe she played a child psychologist on L&O:SVU about 6yrs ago. I liked her on SVU. 🙂
Good for her! I am 44 and I cannot imagine trying to be a mother of a SINGLE newborn, let alone twins. Sometimes it’s all I can do to walk my dog after I get home in the evenings. Hee.
Will have to pull out ‘Bed of Roses’ tonight. What a great movie.
What great news, although she is in for a treat, 3 kids under the age of 2 is a lot of work! Good thing they have the money to hire a nanny.
wow, she still looks great…youthful too.
i will ‘always’ heart her in ‘fried green tomatoes’.
hot hubby…1st pic reminds me of john-john.
congrats! 😉
People forget that the age of fathers also increases the risk of defects in babies.
She’s barely aged since the 80’s, looks fabulous, not that she’s over the hill or anything.
Am somewhat perplexed by her husband’s facial hair however.
Awww love her! Some Kind of Wonderful was a very big special movie for my hubster and me, when we were just starting out dating. 🙂
That’s from 1987, by the way.
Wow, she looks AMAZING! Congrats to the whole family!
I love, love LOVE her in FGT! That is such a great chick flick!
he’s the yummiest part of Army Wives
Love. Her. Very happy to hear their good news!
I watch Fried Green Tomatoes whenever it comes on tv. Jessica Tandy is delightful.
Awww, congrats! Watts was a hero for a young pirate. 🙂
Fried Green Tomatoes is one off my long list of favorite movies. I hope her pregnancy goes well for her. My mom had my brother when she was forty, and it was hard for her. I can’t imagine having one at that age.
At least she didn’t go all “Rent A Womb!”
@Scarlet, LMAO. You read my mind! Guess she couldn’t come up with a “6 degrees of Joanne Woodward” on this one.
FGT is a classic!
!wow! she looks fantastic! loveloveLOVE her!
Congrats to them!
She really was in some great films.
I’m the same age, grandmother to 2, stepgrandmother to 4. I believe I’d have to stand in the highway. That said, if she’s happy, then more power to her! Enjoy, Watson.
Good for her. And “Some Kind of Wonderful” was 1987, not 97. They’ve been running it ad nauseum on the TV Guide channel for the last couple months.
I had my third baby at 43…without fertility help. So congrats to her…and her cute, boyish husband. By the way…how old is he???
I am honestly always amazed at people commenting on women in their 40s having babies-like the kids are gonna have problems….problems with what exactly???
Are you trying to tell me that a freaking 16 year old makes a better mother???
There are some truly crappy parents around of all ages but if she’s having more babies at 44 then good for her-you can be pretty sure that she really wants them and thats the most important thing and who cares what age the woman is.
Great news – good luck to them. Yes, there are risks with being an older Mother, but I’m sure Mary and her husband know this. The desire to have babies does not disappear when you turn 40. I’m sure they will all be fine, and perhaps the people with negative comments are just jealous of her very delicious husband!
Yay! Love her. She hasn’t aged nd they’re a great looking couple. His red facial hair IS alarming. My hubs sideburns are red so I know it happens but it’s still weird.
@ cprincess: well said.
Oh I love her! And she looks fabulous! Congratulations! That is going to be one busy house indeed!
I saw her on Broadway in the musical NINE back in 2001 or 2002 and she was amazing. Great actress and singer. Congratulations!
@cprincess, ITA that a women in their 40s, who wants a child, would probably make a better parent than a 16 year old. However, genetically those over 35 are at greater risk for experiencing complications during pregnancy and having children with birth defects. Here are some statistics from the march of dimes:
A woman’s risk of having a baby with certain birth defects involving chromosomes (the structures in cells that contain genes) increases with age. Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal birth defect. Affected children have varying degrees of mental retardation and physical birth defects. A woman’s risk of having a baby with Down syndrome is (1):
At age 25, 1 in 1,250
At age 30, 1 in 1,000
At age 35, 1 in 400
At age 40, 1 in 100
At 45, 1 in 30
At 49, a 1 in 10
*that a woman in her 40s.
44…she looks great!
