Mel Gibson turned himself in for booking, missed premiere of ‘The Beaver’

Last night, Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster’s film The Beaver premiered at the SXSW Film Festival. Jodie was there. Mel was not. I read that Mel wasn’t down there early this morning, and I thought it was just an attempt by the studio releasing The Beaver (ugh, “releasing the beaver”) to avoid any additional controversy. Nope. Mel wasn’t at the premiere because he was turning himself into the authorities, like he had been ordered. Last week, he pled “no contest” to battery, and had been sentenced to 16 hours of community service, 52 weeks of counseling, and three years of what TMZ calls “informal probation” – I think they made that up? Is “informal probation” a real thing? Isn’t it just “probation or GTFO”? Anyway, Mel turned himself into the El Segundo Police Department, and he was fingerprinted and photographed once again. If you’d like to see his latest booking photo, go here. TMZ calls it “angry”. I still think he looks drugged, though. Somebody prescribed Mel some drugs to help even out his hysterical mood swings. Let’s see, what else? He weighs 190 pounds, and he’s five foot 10 inches.

Here’s a question – do you think Mel was trying to passively aggressively screw with Jodie Foster? The timing is too weird – Jodie premieres The Beaver on the same night that Mel turns himself in? Or is this all some kind of grand publicity campaign that I’m just not understanding? Even if Mel’s timing is sketchy, though, I doubt Jodie will mind. After all, she loves and adores his sensitive soul.

Very odd that he turned himself in at the same time as the premiere. He had either one or two weeks in which to do it, right? Odd. And FFS, could they not have come up with a title other than “The Beaver?” I’m not a perv, but it just sounds wrong. lol, I once looked at a house for sale on “Beaver Lane.” I just couldn’t with that address…..

  2. truthSF says:

Kaiser, I think you’re paranoid and reading too much into this…have you been eating strange tasting brownies? 😉

  3. theoriginalsisterkitty says:

It’s coincidence. Who cares about him and who cares about her. They are both equally guilty.

  4. Eve says:

Why did I have to click on that TMZ link? I’m disgusted by the “hang in there, Mel”, “I’m glad he can put things behind him, the things he’s been through…” and “what that evil Oksana did to him”. What The F*ck??? Are those people paid by his PR team, delusional to the point of sounding like they live in an alternate reality or just plain crazy?

  5. Diane says:

    Go hang out with Tiger.

  6. Praise St. Angie! says:

    he SO looks drugged.

and the movie’s going to tank, whether he was there or not. he probably figured it would be better for the rest of the cast/crew if he wasn’t there.

  7. mojojojo says:

“Who cares about him and who cares about her.”

Um, let’s see… people who read posts about them… like you? Idiot.

    “They are both equally guilty.”

wtf does that mean? of what?

Or maybe he was told he had to come in yesterday and he waited until evening, so it wouldn’t make news until after the premier. If he went in the morning, it would have been all over the blogs before the premier. I don’t think you pick the day you go; you go when they tell you to. I seriously doubt he’d screw with Jodi, just like I doubt that she decided not to have him there. It came from above her.

Informal probation is real. It’s basically unsupervised, meaning he won’t have to check in with the probation officer or have any intervention unless he violates the conditions. Here’s a blurb about the difference.

  9. REALIST says:

The last post everyone was talking about Mel being drugged up. Actually, I bet he was-for anxiety. Any of the benzo’s-Valium, Ativan, Xanax, Klonapin-would be appropriate for a high stress situation-going to court-for someone who obviously has issues with impulse control. Also, I wonder if Mel is bipolar. Lithium is not exactly being phased out, but it is very hard on the kidneys, so alternative solutions are now being used. Klonapin is used for acute mania or to head off acute mania if a patient is going into a stressful situation.

If I were Mel’s shrink-and it sounds like he has one from the tapes since Oks kept asking to call his doctor-I would recommend taking something for anxiety before going to court. No better way to jack up your sentence (or even get committed) than wigging out in front of a judge.

  10. Anti-icon says:

It is a grand campaign, but my take on it is that Mel needs to show contrition, and turning himself in to face his crime, rather than attending a business function, benefits all people who are trying to help him now. He will probably do many of his court ordered things in a public way, because that is part of showing that he is taking responsibility. Lindsey needs to do the same; and so does Charlie Sheen. They are all criminals. Sad.

  11. Hmmm says:

I think it’s more than coincidence. More like damage control coupled with an inability to face the rabble. The booking is a good excuse (he thinks).

  12. Jackson says:

@Whatever – according to TMZ, the judge gave him one week to turn himself in, so it appears he was able to choose when he did it. I think for a simple booking you can just show up whenever.

  13. OXA says:

It gave Jodie the opportunity to pew more bullshit about his humanity while promoting her movie.
Also pop eater says she kept him away

  14. susieqinBA says:

I think he looks VERY depressed, maybe he’s finally hitting rock bottom. I was reading some reviews of the movie, surprisingly to me, the audience there liked the movie;they laughed at some of the scenes; it didn’t get booed which I was hoping it would. There was reserves from many people about seeing it. It seems to be getting mixed reviews. Variety didn’t think Jodie did a good job directing. What I also read is that the top guys over the movie did not want Mel there and Jodie agreed, they felt Mel’s presence would hurt.

I am still very uncomfortable about the movie I still feel it was not a good role for Mel and that it affected him more psychologically (too close to his personal issues)and I still feel Jodie took advantage of this for her benefit.

    always the martyr

  16. Delta Juliet says:

I agree with Eve…I didn’t read all the comments on TMZ(I just couldn’t) but most of them were in support of Mel.

Now, I know none of us were there and REALLY know everything, but the ugly things that were spewing out of his mouth….well, there is just no way those things are right.

  17. KWK says:

He is tall about 5 foot 10 inches only with elevator shoes.People who could see him in person claim that he is about 5ft 8 or even 5ft 7.I doubt that he was measured now,he just said that he is 5 ft 10.And we all know that he is notorious liar.

  18. Laine says:

Why is a criminal like Mel Gibson not being DEPORTED He is not the kind of
person we want in this country.

  19. Rio says:

    @ Laine
He’s an a American citizen by birth- he didn’t move to Australia until he was a teenager. Don’t think they want him back!

  20. Quercus says:

Do I even want to know what “The Beaver” is about?

I refuse to look it up because I am still so annoyed by him and Foster.

  21. echolocate says:

The tragedy in all this is that mush-mouthed preteens with ill-fitting braces will be in tears at the Cinemark, because the “guy in the ticket booth thaid Justin’th movie wath in theatre fithe!”

  22. Chris says:

“He’s an a American citizen by birth- he didn’t move to Australia until he was a teenager. Don’t think they want him back!”

Indeed. He was fine until he went back the US. What did you guys do to him?

  23. Jacq says:

Yes, I have also heard he is shorter, inches shorter. What’s the rule? Subtract 3 inches?
It it my belief that he turned himself in because his presence would have just overshadowed the whole premiere; just as well he missed it because, seriously, who’s going to pay to watch that shit show?? Save your energy for the jacuzzi…

  24. zeishy says:

OH please Kaiser can you let up on Mel I actually feel sorry for him please, just let him go through his stuff.

  25. Jazz says:

That’s right, he’s not Australian, he’s American. I’m afraid you guys are stuck with him! We’ve got our own problems to deal with. Dannii Minogue, Sophie Monk…

  26. Jazz says:

He’s sweating like a whore in church in that top picture!

  27. original kate says:

don’t you mean the premiere of “the glum beaver?”

  28. theoriginalsisterkitty says:

lol @original kate for the glum beaver and to yesterdays mojojojo-equally guilty means he is guilty of abuse and an being an a-hole and she is guilty of being a money grubbing whore. Are you new to this situation?
