I thought I had heard a rumor that this might be the first Brangelina-less Cannes Film Festival in five years, but thank God it’s not true. While Brad’s latest film, the Terrence Malick-directed Tree of Life – isn’t up for competition for the Palme d’Or, the film is going to get a major premiere and roll-out at the festival. And as for Angelina – well, she will likely be giving interviews too, because scenes from Kung Fu Panda 2 will also be getting a screening. Yay! Brangelina on the red carpet!
Cue the paparazzi: Cinema’s rite of spring – the Cannes Film Festival – will feature an all-star cast, as will be officially announced on Thursday. But, for now, PEOPLE has learned that fans can expect to find Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, as well as Sean Penn and Scarlett Johansson sharing the spotlight along the Croisette from May 11 through 22.
In addition, invitations to the 64th Cannes Fest are also out to Rolling Stone Keith Richards, Madonna, Jack Black and France’s First Lady, Carla Bruni, who happens to be making her acting debut in a Woody Allen movie.
One thing is already for certain: Robert DeNiro will be sticking around the entire fest – he is the head of the jury that hands out the prizes.
Topping the list of premieres is the multi-generational saga Tree of Life, starring Pitt and Penn and directed by the highly regarded Terence Malick (Badlands, Days of Heaven). Pitt will no doubt remain in the South of France during the first half of the festival, which will also bring a sneak peek of Kung Fu Panda 2, featuring the voice of Jolie, as well as that of Dustin Hoffman and Jack Black.
Depp’s appearance is keyed to a world premiere, that of Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which marks the return of Jack Sparrow. Cruz is among the costars.
The festival’s previously announced Opening Selection, Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, will bring to Cannes cast members Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen, Owen Wilson, Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody and, it is anticipated, Marion Cotillard, though she is due to give birth at the end of April.
Also on the agenda: a special tribute to the late Elizabeth Taylor, whose amFAR event to benefit her AIDS foundation has become an annual Cannes event.

Tree of Life is also supposed to be getting a big, splashy London premiere on May 4, but who knows if that date was set before the Cannes date? My guess is that the big premiere will be for the world’s media at Cannes, and then they’ll go directly to London for another big premiere. I’m seriously excited about this, even though I think Tree of Life looks like artsy BS. Oh, HOLD UP. Sean Penn is in Tree of Life too! Do you think Sean will bring his young lover Scarlett Johansson to the event so we can have a glittery sack fashion faceoff between ScarJo and Angelina? Oh, this makes my day!

Cannes is truly the tackiest,thing that I have ever been to. Yes, I got to walk on the red carpet (when they were vacuuming it, LOL) but what you can’t see are all the guys selling fake Louis Vuitton bags and tacky souvenirs just a few feet away from the carpet. I did get to see Harrison Ford and Vin Diesel but I don’t know if that was a good thing.
Thank heavens that I also got to go to the Grand Prix in Monaco, that was awesome and so well done.

I am glad they are coming back the Tree of Life is said to be Mallick’s most personal work and it may be Pitt’s best performance to date.

I can’t help it. This combination of photos just made me realise how endlessly fascinated I am with Jolie. I am not being sarcastic. I always thought I disliked her, but how could you – she holds my interest. I mean, the contrast between the putty coloured maternity montrosity and the anorexic yellow dress… the ever changing face of Angie Jo will have me forever fixated.

@ hstl1: Don’t mean to be rude but you were prolly there as a tourist so you only saw the tourist side of Cannes (street venders etc..). Go to some of the parties and Cannes will seem like the most glamorous place in the world.
I love Johnny but I won’t be surprised if he’ll spend most of his time in the same GD outfit he wore for most of the Tourist and Rango promotion. I hope he at least took the Pirates Gold teeth out.

I think Cannes have a strict dress code for premieres and main events RC so Johnny would have to dress up for occasion.
On the other hand Pirates are not in competition so unless he goes to the opening/closing ceremony or to the premiere of some other movie he can manage to “stay in character” 🙂

PJ: In the pic with the yellow dress he has light brown hair (anyone else notice that they have the same exact hair color in all of the pics?)and in all the other pics Brad has dark brown hair.
The dark hair seems to age him; if he went back to a light brown or dark blonde hair color he’d look younger. But as long as Angie keeps her hair dark, so shall he.
@jinni Brad changes his haircolor as his women do. He was light blond with Gweneth and changed his hair color every time Jen did and now with Angie. He’s weird.
actually Brad just changes his hair color according to his roles (He went blond in the fall for Moneyball) it’s called acting.

@mln76. I happen to like the Brange but I gotta agree with jinn and jess. He does change his hair colour to match the woman he’s with. But as far as quirks go, it’s a harmless one I think.
I prefer a Brangelina-less Cannes myself. Depp on the other hand. Lurve him. I hope he wears a nice suit and tames that mane of his.
So when did Angelina have shocking blonde hair then? Because that’s the colour Brad was sporting in the early days of their relationship. Or even better, what about jet-black? Cause he had that for long while too. The hair thing is greatly overstated methinks.
The beard and darker hair makes him look older. When Brad shaved and colored his hair for Moneyball everybody said he had a massive amount of plastic surgery and procedures done. Which was ridiculous to say since he was photographed a day or two before he shaved. I’m not an expert but I’m positive that even minor procedures would show swelling and/or bruising. People also say Angelina had a lot of surgery but I don’t see it. These pictures span 3 or 4 years and her face doesn’t look different.
Hold the phone…people are “excited” about them being at Cannes? I mean, far be it from me to ask, but will you all be rubbing elbows with them?

Also, the yellow & green dresses are gorgeous. Ridiculously beautiful. Bright colors compliment her complexion, she should wear them more often.
She looks just like Olivia Wilde in the yellow dress. Cannes used to be a prestigious film festival. I’m talking 20 years ago and more. Then the Miramax crew turned into just another stop on the Hollywood press junkett. Kung Fu Panda 2 at CANNES? That is sad. And that’s not a diss of what’s her name. It’s a commentary on the state of what once was the art of filmmaking.
PJ, I agree. It’s having kids under 5. My husband and I have a two year old and we have that same look. Maybe when the kids get older he’ ll get more rest.

Competition or no, it has no business being there. It detracts from the purpose of the festival, which is a showcase for serious artistic film making.
Angelina has a long time stylist but designers for her 2011 Golden Globes green dress said Brad acted as her stylist and chose her dress and that he likes to see her in boatneck dresses, LOL.
The Brad matches his ladies hair color is way over blown. Actually GP dyed and cut her hair to match his blond hairstyle in his Days in Tibet film, and his hair colors when with JA were all over the place, blond brown and inbetween and very seldom matched hers.
But it does seem that with Angelina Brad’s hair color is usually very similar except when he is making a film.

@Mrs Odie: I agree with your statement but I think having the out of competition big films are a necesary evil for Cannes. It needs to attract big names and big money (l’Oreal etc) in order to stay relevant and in the spotlight. It has lost a lot to the Venice festival in recent years.

Actually I am very happy that Jolie is going to Cannes. There is no one who is better entertainment on the red carpet, and I mean that sincerely.

There isn’t anyone except Bai Ling who has worse dress sense. That gown last time with the thigh slit and her bony legs and huge knees and those big feet all on display. Words fail me. Additionally there really isn’t any depth to how low she will go in her desperation and clinginess to Pitt. Half the time both those big feet were a foot behind her padded arse. Both of them looked drunk and high as kites. There were pics where that dress looked just drenched in sweat with the material sticking to her arms. I don’t even want to think about what she smelled like. And the talk about her afterwards was hilarious. Yep, and she is even bonier this year, and with another whole year’s worth of wrinkles under her eyes and those jaw and chin bones jutting out. Those European journalists had a field day with her looks last year, I can’t wait to see what they have to say after the roasting she got for the way she looked in Tourist and during the promos. I do have to say, if she goes and isn’t medicated out her ass, and doesn’t look like she is ready to burst into tears like usual, she has balls 🙂

I remember when they were there last.. Brad was posing with the Cast of Inglorious Basterds… and then he left and walked back down the red carpet and got Angie from the crowd following them. That was super HOT and Sexy.. I remember how the photographers were surprised and not expecting it. Then when they realized what he was doing they lost their shit..
there have been lots of hot moments during Cannes. Fingers crossed for another memorable moment for the fans..
