Ringo Starr is too busy to read his fan mail

If you’ve ever held a secret desire to write a letter to Ringo Starr telling him how much you admire him and hope he sends you a signed 8×10″ glossy to show his appreciation for you time, you have less than a week to get it done. Ringo has issued a statement saying he will not be accepting any more fan mail after October 20th.

Ringo Starr has told fans not to send him any more letters because he has “too much to do.”

The former Beatle has warned admirers he will throw away anything sent to him after next Monday (20.10.08).

He said in a video clip on his website: “This is a serious message to everyone watching my update. Peace and love. Peace and love.

“I want to tell you after the 20th of October please do not send fan mail to any address you have. Nothing will be signed after the 20th of October.

“If that is the date on the envelope, it’s going to be tossed. I’m warning you with peace and love. I have too much to do. So no more fan mail. Thank you, thank you. And no objects to be signed. Nothing. Anyway, peace and love, peace and love.”

Stunned. He has too much to do? None of the things he’s too busy doing now even be possible if it wasn’t for his fame, made possible by his fans. Besides just being stupid as a recording artist still at the mercy of his record sales, it was just an arrogant, douchey thing to say out loud. I mean, for crying out loud, Ringo, lie to your fans like every other celebrity does and have someone else open your mail for you.

There’s curmudgeon and there’s jackass, and Ringo Starr blew right past curmudgeon and is leading the jackass line. Earlier this year Starr alienated the city of Liverpool by appearing disgusted at the thought of moving back to his hometown and birthplace of The Beatles. Certain citizens of the city showed their displeasure.

A foliage sculpture of Beatle Ringo Starr in the band’s home city has been beheaded by vandals.

The topiary feature, which took 18 months to cultivate into the fab four, was unveiled at the city south Parkways Transport Exchange last month.

Starr’s head was chopped off, but the rest of the Beatles were untouched.

The 67-year-old outraged some Liverpool residents when, after opening the European Capital of Culture events, he said he missed nothing about the city.

I’m betting there aren’t a whole lot of people left who will miss anything about Ringo Starr.

Note by Celebitchy: Remember that episode of the Simpsons when Ringo Starr sent Marge a thank you letter for the portrait she had made of him over 30 years prior? That’s all I could think of when I read this story. At least he personally responded to his fan mail at some point.

CB, I couldn’t stop thinking about the Simpson’s episode either!

I know I’m being hypocritical because if Macca did this there’s a chance I’d call him all sorts – but I did LOL when i heard the clip on the radio, I think it was the threatening “peace & love” business

But it does sound like he did do all of his fan mail (up to the 20th).

The thought that chemical reactions in his brain of some sort triggered this did occur to me. Or maybe its part of some viral marketing scheme? Stranger things have happened. 😉

    “Chemical reactions…” Que, Mairead?

He and his wife run an extremely generous (but low-key) Foundation and have put a huge amount of money, time and effort into a number of great causes (addiction and child welfare in particular), so nothing bad to say about him, he can be as grumpy as he likes.

Or maybe he wants to travel or be with his family, or ya know… whatever.

He’s given quite a number of years to the public already, and he’s getting up there. I’m not quite sure why you think he has to be chained to his house signing shit for people. At least he was honest, and clearly motivated by peace and love. Besides, who knows, now that there are only two remaining Beatles– maybe that significantly increased the flow of mail, and it became overwhelming. Either way, it’s his time and his life to spend how he sees fit.

Why do people think that it’s okay to feel ownership over someone? Why does he have to live in Liverpool? Obviously if he wanted to, he probably would have a long time ago. Get over yourselves, I believe he made the score even with fans by being part of a band that changed the face of music forever. The truth is people are never satisfied, and they’ll always want more. Good for Ringo.

I don’t ask for much, I only want your trust, And you know it don’t come easy.
It’s his life. I have always liked Ringo, not my favorite Beatle though……..

Too funny. No-one is going to pay him the slightest heed ….if they want to send Ringo Starr fan mail, they’ll send him fan mail 😆

  7. Anne says:

Why not hire someone to read and answer fan mail? It’s better than throwing it away.

  8. Orangeitjulius says:

Er, I’m originally from Liverpool and I wouldn’t go back there for all the tea in China! Butt ugly place! Horrible.

  9. Jeanne says:

That’s okay Ringo, I think the world will manage. He doesn’t really even need to go public to tell us anyway. For all we know he could have been throwing fan mail away for years. Do people even still write fan letters? Seems like such an antiquated idea.

Ringo can be as grouchy as he wants to be about this. He has ALWAYS answered his fan mail since the beginning and he would sign anything anyone would send him and send it back… What he’s ranting about is the people who repeatedly send him stuff to sign – all kinds of memorabilia – and then turn around and sell them on eBay, it disgusts me that these unscrupulous people would exploit him that way, but then I was appalled at the morons who ran Enron and all the corporations whose upper level made lots of money cheating employees, stockholders, retirees and children out of theirs…
And that woman who rushed him to HUG him??? Jees, you guys, give the man a break… he has been the most accessible Beatle and it’s time he defend himself and his legacy.
