Married NY Congressman won’t say whether tweeted photo of his crotch is him

Anthony Weiner and his wife of less than one year, Huma Abedin, on 3/26/11

Remember the scandal over the married NY Republican congressman who was trolling for strange on Craigslist? That guy resigned after a shirtless self portrait photo surfaced. Well a married NY Democratic congressman, the ironically named Anthony Weiner, publicly tweeted a photo over the weekend of his erect crotch (in underwear, thankfully, you can see the photo here) to a 21 year-old college student and then immediately tried to claim his “Facebook” was hacked, even though the photo was posted on the photo sharing site YFrog, which is connected to his Twitter account. Also, somehow he gained immediate control of his Twitter account from the “hackers,” who had hacked his “Facebook” and were mysteriously controlling his Twitter account through it. There’s all sorts of evidence that the guy is trying to cover for being 1. a skeeve and 2. an idiot with technology.

Some outlets are trying to make this into a political issue, but it seems like a men thinking with their little heads issue, which is an equal opportunity offender/equalizer. What’s more is that there’s plenty of evidence that Weiner has direct messaged with other women, including porn stars.

Liberal Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner tried Tuesday to deflect attention away from a controversy involving a lewd photo briefly posted on his Twitter account, saying the matter was undeserving of further attention.
Meanwhile, the conservative blogger who broke the story called for a full investigation of what he said was either the hacking of a congressman’s account or something Weiner wants to hide.

Weiner told reporters he wasn’t interested in talking about the issue any more, saying he already made statements over the Memorial Day weekend after news of the photo of the lower body of a man wearing underwear turned up on his Twitter account Friday night.

In a heated exchange with reporters, he repeatedly dodged direct questions about the photo.

“If I were giving a speech to 45,000 people, and someone in the back threw a pie or yelled out an insult, I would not spend the next two hours of my speech responding to that pie or that insult. I would return to the things that I want to talk about,” Weiner said in response to a question about whether he sent the lewd photo to a Seattle woman.
He also refused to say why he hasn’t asked law enforcement to investigate if in fact his account was hacked, as he has said it was.

In earlier comments, when asked if the photo was of him, Weiner deflected the question.

“I’m not going to talk about this anymore,” he said, adding: “I’m going to get back to the conversation I care about,” including economic issues and what he calls a conflict-of-interest situation involving conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on the health care reform law. The New York Democrat is a leading liberal voice in Congress.
Asked several questions about the Twitter situation, Weiner stuck to his message.

“I understand you’re doing your job, but I’m going to go back to work now,” Weiner said at one point. When asked if he was concerned about being hacked, he responded: “I’m going to return to working on the things I care about. I participated in the story a couple of days now, given comments on it. This is a distraction and I’m not going to let it distract me.”

When a reporter noted the distraction might go away if he answered the questions, Weiner answered: “I’m not convinced of that.

“I’m not convinced there’s any value of me talking about it,” Weiner said.

Asked again if he was the man in the photo, Weiner responded again that he had made previous statements and now it was time for him to get back to work.

Previously, Weiner blamed the photo on a hacker who got control of his social-networking accounts and played a prank. Weiner’s spokesman, Dave Arnold, said Monday the congressman has retained an attorney to look into the situation.
“We’ve retained counsel to explore the proper next steps and to advise us on what civil or criminal actions should be taken,” Arnold said in a statement. “This was a prank. We are loath to treat it as more, but we are relying on professional advice.”

No formal criminal investigation has been launched, which rankles Andrew Breitbart, whose conservative website biggovernment.com first reported the photo on Weiner’s Twitter account in connection with a tweet to a Seattle woman.

[From CNN]

Yeah, he did it and he can only respond by changing the subject. It’s a bad excuse and he’s handling it poorly. Below is a video of him making those statements and I’m pretty convinced he’s guilty now that I’ve watched it. He comes across as arrogant and evasive.

Why do men think that women find photos of their d*ck hot, though? I’ve had men send me stuff like this when I was single and all it made me do was point, laugh and hit “delete.” I should have kept some of that, though, because who knows where those idiots are now.

Here’s Weiner talking about the “prank” on his Twitter account and deflecting all questions. He never directly says “no” he didn’t send that tweet, he never says “no” that photo wasn’t of him, and he doesn’t answer questions as to why he never had this “hacking” investigated. The best part of this is that they are calling it Weinergate!
And you are right, CB….it’s not political, just stupid.

  2. Quest says:

Weiner showed his weiner (dong) how mooranic can you get…LMFAO…douche

  3. the original bellaluna says:

He’s taking a page right of the Blohan Handbook – deflect, dodge, and talk about how you’re “going to get back to work.” FUNNY! 😀

    Oh! And what an idiot!

  4. Kaboom says:

Fun fact about Weiner: his and Jon Stewart’s girlfriends back in the day were roommates, so they kept running into each other.

  5. Kiki says:

The pic itself is not good. He’s not packin’

  6. Delta Juliet says:

    1. He’s an idiot. And 2. I’m with you CB, no matter how hot I think a guy is, I don’t want him sending me pictures of his d*ck. Guys, just because you are obsessed with it, doesn’t mean we are.

  7. Jezi says:

    Dirty dirty dirty….blech!!!

  8. tango says:

Ewww. I mean what a horn dog. I think he only followed like 300 people on his Twitter. And a disporportiate amount of them were young college aged women living all over the country which doesn’t make sense since this is a 46 year old Congressman serving a New York district.

I bet his wife is thrilled.

  9. You don't say says:

This whole thing reads like a bad and very funny novel. I mean this man’s name is “Weiner” and he is accused of exposing his “weiner”. You can’t make this stuff up.

  10. aenflex says:

they send us pictures of their dick because they assume we are like them. that we think like them. sad. and funny. sad and funny at the same time. one day women will rule.

  11. LOVE ANGELINA says:

    1. Nice Bulge. 2. Jon Stewart talked about this last night and it was hilarious. Jon was/is apparently friends with this weirdo.

I mean, I am sick to death of this married politician caught doing something sexual with a young girl or guy in some cases. Why? Why? Why? Stop proposing!!!

I don’t know much about this story other than what Jon Stewart reported and I have read just now but Twitter accounts and Facebook accounts are all linked, with one click of a check box anything you upload can be Tweeted to all those following you. Almost everything is linked to Twitter. Wow twitter catches cheaters, nice, and people didn’t think you were useful. What Dbag he is for not even being more careful with his dirty deeds.

  12. viper says:

wow and I liked weiner he had balls.

  13. Wif says:

I have no issue with people doing dirty deeds. I take HUGE issue with politicians willing to make bold faced lies. If you’re willing to lie about your personal life, why would you be honest about things affecting the state?

  14. snappyfish says:

He used his good boy phone instead of his naughty boy phone to send naughty tweet that might cost him his seat…..

Hard to say you don’t know the woman when you follow her and you follow so few….

  15. lucy2 says:

That’s stinks – he was one of the guys really fighting for the 9/11 first responders, and one of the few who seemed to have some common sense. If he did this, it was incredibly stupid.

  16. Julia says:

Regarding the above comment, I am pretty sure that’s kind of illogical. It has to do with how embarrassing something is. Embarrassing =/= criminal. If you won’t reveal your financial donors, that’s potentially criminal or demonstrates a conflict of interest that people should know about. If you don’t want to tell everyone that you’ve jacked off to “Backdoor Angels 3”, that’s freakin’ understandable.

  17. the original bellaluna says:

@ Wif – And if they’re that adept at lying to and keeping secrets from their own wives/families, what are they capable of lying to and keep secrets from the voting public about? *shudders to think* SCARY!

(And honestly, if you can’t keep it in your pants, at least to keep it off the social networks.)

  18. TaylorB says:

I can not understand how anyone with half a brain would do something so stupid in this day and age. He is a public figure obviously that kind of behaviour would get noticed. I don’t know if he was hacked or not (granted as his name is Weiner it is awfully tempting for folks who do that), but the obfuscation isn’t helping him at all.

  19. Kate says:

Of note is that his wife is a trusted aide to Hillary Clinton and has been for a number of years. They are extremely tight. Rumors have circulated about their relationship being more than a professional one (Huma and Hillary). Not sure about that as I think it is more mother/daughterish.

  20. feebee says:

another one bites the dust. these guys are idiots. and they’re the ones running the country, god help us all.

  21. the original bellaluna says:

@ feebee – We need more good, strong women in office.

  22. flutters says:

There is actually ample evidence of this being a set up. It starts with a wingnut whose Twitter handle is @patriotusa76 who plotted it out 2 weeks before the fact. Check it out with screencaps here:

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/05/29/980400/-Breitbarts-#TwitterHoaxHow-It-Went-Down

  23. Kimbob says:

I agree w/@original bellaluna. We defintely need a change. This guy got caught & he’s an idiot…a kind of mean & obstinate idiot also because he’s having a press conference & WON’T ANSWER THE QUESTIONS. Why appear before the press, then?

It would be very easy to find out if he did, or didn’t do this…however, I guess he doesn’t want this because he would then lose his job. Also, I’m sick of “career/professional politicians.” Career/professional politicians = LIARS & CHEATS.

I wish we could get people to run for these offices that weren’t career politicians. People that actually have values and morals. Definitely more women, because you don’t hear of the women politicians doing this kind of crap.

  24. original kate says:

i’m waiting for more information. seems very breitbart-esque to me.

  25. Anon says:

I am so sad to hear this about him (if it is in fact true)…Because he is totally awesome.
Check out his rant against the GOP:

  26. tango says:

If it truly was a tallywhacker hacker, how come Weiner isn’t screaming from the rooftops for the FBI to find the hacker so he/she can be prosecuted?

I would think if someone hacked my account and tweeted a photo of a penis saying it was mine to one of the many teenaged and young adult aged women of the 198 people I follow on Twitter, and it wasn’t true, then I’d be calling for the hackers head on the judicial platter. But I’m not a 46 year old Congressman who’d rather hire a lawyer than ask the FBI to find the hacker who pretended to be me, because you know, my wifes feelings and my reputation aren’t as important as letting off some hacker.

Face it, the Weiner did it. If he didn’t, he would be encouraging all law enforcement responses as possible to clear his reputation.

  27. peacelovekitty says:

Thanks @ Flutters for that very informative link… It is so apparently obvious that this is a set-up. Before some of you hang this man out to dry get all the facts and make an INFORMED decision. Everything is not as it appears to be on the surface. Ask yourself – how is it possible that the only person to see this picture post live on Twitter is the same person that has been antagonizing Weiner and his followers for a month or so?? Wouldn’t you want the benefit of the doubt if this was you (or your husband)?

  28. Tiffany says:

Again CB, totally agree about the wiener shots. I have been with my man for 22 years, and we have a really passionate relationship. BUT, I would rather get tweeted a pic of a naked chick any day. We are soft, curvy, seductive.
Unless you love said attached wiener, please keep to yourself.

  29. TaylorB says:

    Flutters,

Thanks. Looks like it is being pretty well established that it was a hoax. In hindsight a pretty obvious one at that, the dudes name is Weiner so they posted a picture of a crotch. I can just see the idiot at his/her computer ‘teeheehee Weiner, get it?’ Those kind of obnoxious jokes can ruin peoples careers and marriages. Not very funny.

Though to be fair, Rep Weiner could have handled it better.

  30. Kristin says:

Damn it, I love this guy. If you haven’t seen his explosive rant over efforts to block benefits to 9/11 rescuers…do it. He’s like the “House” of Congress.

    *sigh*

  31. girl says:

Why isn’t he calling for some sort of inquiry if he was hacked? I wouldn’t go to a site like the Daily Kos and expect balanced, even-handed treatment of the subject.

I think the argument being used for making this political is because it is thought that if he had an R behind his name, this news would be EVERYwhere. I’m not thoroughly convinced of that. I’m waiting for more facts to emerge but it honestly looks like yet another politician who has made some seriously poor decisions.

  32. Kung Fooey says:

*I* did not have sex with that woman!

I did *NOT* have sex with that woman!

I did not have *SEX* with that woman!

I did not have sex with *THAT* woman!

I did not have sex with that *WO…*

Oh screw it, those blasted pie throwers are at it again, Jim!

  33. flutters says:

Why isn’t he calling for some sort of inquiry if he was hacked? I wouldn’t go to a site like the Daily Kos and expect balanced, even-handed treatment of the subject.

@girl Rep. Weiner has engaged counsel to investigate his legal options on the hack job.

Fair point about Daily Kos but my point is: those screencaps aren’t lying. Also, I don’t consider Fox News with its history of knowingly misrepresenting images and mistruths as factual a credible source of evidence and that’s what CB cited. You can also check out this interview at Gawker from the 21 year old college student to whom that tweet was allegedly directed:

    http://gawker.com/5806665/alleged-mistress-speaks-out-weinergate-looks-like-hoax

She backs up the fact that @patriotusa76 had been harrassing her on Twitter for a while.

I’m way past the point of thinking any politician of whatever political stripe is above being a lewd idiot. But this screams set up.

  34. Kung Fooey says:

    Tango asked:

“If it truly was a tallywhacker hacker, how come Weiner isn’t screaming from the rooftops for the FBI to find the hacker so he/she can be prosecuted?”

Right. For one thing, if it were a hacker, couldn’t it be a political foe trying to take him down? Wouldn’t he want the info on the id of the person IMMEDIATELY, for that reason alone? Also, this story has hurt his good name – another reason to find the id of the hacker. And what if this so-called hacker has done this to others, as well?

In fact, what has he got to lose by trying to unmask the alleged hacker? It’s a win-win situation and wouldn’t cost him a dime if the FBI investigates the claim…yet he goes to a lawyer instead? Why? Why run to a lawyer unless you’ve got something to hide?

Straighforward, simple answers would clear up much, which the Weiner apparently isn’t willing or able to do.

  35. TaylorB says:

Regardless of party, this doesn’t seem political it just reeks of some silly prank. As someone who grew up with a very unfortunate last name as well, I can attest that people like Rep Weiner and Speaker Boehner are often the butt of these kinds of jokes and it gets pretty old, pretty fast which is why I would suspect both Rep Weiner and Speaker Boehner would just roll their eyes and shake their heads at crap like this by now. I remember well the more you let on that having your name made fun of the more it happened, you just have to shake it off or it becomes a bigger issue.

  36. Amanda G says:

I soooo agree that dick shots are not hot.

Why are these law makers such idiots? STOP TAKING SENSUAL PICTURES AND MAKING PORN VIDEOS!!! Is it really that hard to understand?

  37. operagirl says:

Tallywhacker hacker . . . *that* is epic. LOL.

  38. WhoamI? says:

Uh, that’s actually his normal demeanor. Look up video of him being interviewed by Megyn Kelly. I personally think the guy has a thing against women. That’s why he’s trying to sex up some 21 year old follower and chatting with porn stars. Hello, Tiger Woods syndrome.

  39. WhoamI? says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn_P1zupIcY
Weiner being a weiner in an interview. It starts to get combative a little after 6 mins in but it’s worth it. He actually tells the interviewer that she’s going to have to focus on his answer implying that she’s too stupid or dense to get it unless he talks real slow or repeats himself. And then it just spirals out of control from there. At one point he’s whistling and looking around like he’s ignoring her while she’s trying to ask a question. This guy is a piece of work.

  40. Liana says:

Perhaps he’s not answering the questions being asked because his counsel at this time has asked him not to say too much while they determine their next steps. I prefer to see more information and proof that this is/isn’t a hoax before I pass judgement on anyone.

  41. eternalcanadian says:

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahha.

That fella stuffed a salami down his pants. And now he’s embarrassed he got caught so he’s claiming hacker!

    Oh, I can’t stop laughing!

  42. machiavelli says:

    Someone hacked his underwear?

  43. Deb says:

He’s truly an idiot and a bad liar. I was just watching ABC News and he basically told the interviewer that he didn’t know if the picture came from him or not. At least that’s what it sounded like. He kept dancing around answering the question. How on Earth do you not know if a picture of a crotch is yours or not?

  44. Liana says:

he said that they aren’t sure if the picture actually came from his account or not (in other words, not sure if his account actually was hacked or if the entire thing, pic and all, was a hoax, initially leading him to believe that his account was hacked.)

Remember that the girl involved has said that she never even saw the pic. There is doubt at this time whether or not the pic was even initially sent through Twitter.

Not saying he didn’t do it, simply saying I want to wait for more information. If he did it, I want him to admit that he’s a perv. If he didn’t do it, he shouldn’t be tarred and feathered. I didn’t vote for the man. I’m not even a dem.

  45. TaylorB says:

I will give him the benefit of the doubt, just like I would Speaker Boehner if a crotch pic of his was tweeted. It seems like it is some person trying to play on his name. I doubt anyone who was actually a political operative on the Republican side would do something so stupid and Rep Weiner is not known for these kind of shenanigans. He isn’t terribly likeable, but he seems fairly bright.

  46. telesma says:

The account wasn’t hacked, they only thought it was at first. There are other ways to get pics on someone’s Yfrog account than hacking it, and that’s what was done. This has been proven a hoax in several ways already, but most of the media are not covering that, only the juicy “scandal”. He’s been Breitbarted, and I’m pretty sure he’ll recover.

  47. Laughternrain says:

Seriously his denials are so weak and pathetic, he should give up and admit the truth. I wonder if he was drunk when he posted it.

  48. erin says:

So his wife is Huma Weiner. Tragic.

  49. Liana says:

He basically admitted it. So now I feel fine saying that he’s a jackass, and a confirmed one at that.
