Jessica Alba’s really growing on me lately with her relatively lucid statements about hypnobirthing and general aura, but I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before she opens her mouth on the subject of acting and ruins it all. However, I must also admit that Alba’s impressed me again, not merely because she’s attended the Covenant House 2011 Gala and Awards Dinner to raise money for the homeless, but that she’s done so during such an advanced state of pregnancy. While I worked up until the day I gave birth, it wasn’t by choice, and if I had Alba’s bank account, it would be couch city at this point. Yet despite all of Alba’s recent fashion and charity-related outings, she’s had a relatively lowkey pregnancy compared to the first one. Perhaps this is due to her fanboys’ resignation over the first round, since her body bounced back relatively quickly. Or maybe people just don’t care enough about Jessica Alba anymore. Tough call.

At any rate, Alba appeared on the red carpet in a floor-length, white embroidered gown. Usually, this dress would seem nightgownish (which would go along with the fact that she seems exhausted), but Alba actually pulls it off here with her coloring and natural-looking hair style. Overall, this look is better than the severely pulled-back hairstyle that she paired with her recent orange and purple DVS dress, and it far outranks Bryce Dallas Howard’s Pepto-Bismol vomit maternity chic. If anything, Alba merely needs to cut back on the eye shadow just a bit. Well, maybe more than a little.

Inside the gala, Alba also presented an award to James Cameron and his wife, Suzy Amis. You can tell she’d totally die to appear in the next Avatar movie, right?
