I’m probably dating myself, but some of my earliest childhood memories revolve around the Cold War. I have vivid memories of Ronald Reagan’s speeches, of “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” I remember “Perestroika”. I remember Reagan and Gorbachev’s infamous “walk in the woods” and of course, I remember when The Wall came down. Some days, I actually miss the Cold War, and I still get nostalgic for Cold War-ish things. Like when I catch an old James Bond movie, or when I’m watching a PBS documentary.
So imagine my delight when I heard there was a remake of John le Carré’s Cold War opus, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The book had already been adapted for film, back when it was “breaking news” in the actual Cold War. And now it’s been remade anew, with a completely spectacular cast – Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Gary Oldman, Benedict, Ciaran Hinds and Benedict Cumberbatch, just to name a few. The basic story – well, there’s nothing basic about it. It’s all spy stuff, double and triple bluffs, heavy on the 1970s Cold War atmosphere. But it’s about the hunt for a Soviet spy in the highest level of British intelligence. And the trailer/teaser for the film just came out, and I LOVE IT. I want to get this trailer pregnant. It’s totally Cold War Porn.

It’s been on my list FOREVER. I can’t wait anymore!!!
Oooh, looks good. I’m a big fan of the original adaptation, so I’ll have to wait and see if this holds up.
@ Kaiser
We must be about the same age because many of my early childhood memories are quite similar. I remember being in first grade, terrified that the Soviets would nuke us. Remember Samantha Smith? (Maybe I only know her because she’s from my homestate)
Anyway, any movie that has these guys in it will have to be good. My honey Colin! *sigh*
Huge fan of Benedict Cumberbatch and cant wait to see him in this film.
Oh cold war porn. Yum! I love spy novels and movies. This one not only is a great story but has some lovely delicious eye candy too.
Gary Oldman and Colin Firth…oh my, my. Don’t know the other guy, but these two are worth the price of admission. Smooth and elegant, the both of them.
Good god, I love Gary Oldman.
Loved those books and the original BBC mini-series with Alec Guinness as George Smiley. Looking forward to this. Great cast. Colin Firth….mmmmm…….dreamy.
Ciarán Hinds??????? Now I want to see this.
GAH! Even his autograph is sexy:

And I love the scene in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day when they finally meet (in the end) and he tells her he had been loking for her. She (surprised) says: “Me?” and he replies: “I’ve been looking for you all night, and I believe, all of my life. If you’ll have me.”
Absolutely love him.
Would it be wrong to find some “personal pleasure” while watching this?
Tom Hardy may lure me to this movie.
This has an all around great cast. Tom Hardy and Benny Cumberbatch have already worked together on a BBC project (that aired over here on HBO I think) called “Stuart: a Life Backwawrds”. It was really phenomenal. Netflix it if u can, its worth it. And everyone has to watch the BBCs modernized Sherlock Holmes. Cumberbatch was the perfect Holmes!
Wow. Can’t wait.
Colin Firth! and Ciaran Hinds!!Not only to be seen but to be bought!
Hot. That is one fantastic cast. Oldman, Firth, Strong, Hardy, I’ve had a crush on all them at some point in time.
OMG. i am all over this. awesome! i am kinda obsessed with Russian history.
Gary, Cirian, Colon AND Mark?!!! L O V E.
Looks great! Terrific cast!
This is AWESOME. Loved the original story and miniseries; will love this, by the look of it.
Kaiser, I’ve thought that you and I were twins so many times (usually on Hot Guy Friday), but now I’m sure of it. I find the Cold War endlessly fascinating, probably because of my vivid memories of that time.
Would have been hotter if Fassbender was in the lead role that eventually went to Hardy. He was short-listed with Hardy but I think he couldn’t do the film because of his already full schedule.
This is probably the smartest piece Ive ever read on a gossip site Nice work. I majored in Cold War politics meeself…..LOL. We are getting old! Like when my kid says, “Mommy, what’s a record?
