Raven Symoné, the former child star who helped The Cosby Show jump the shark, penned a MySpace blog addressing the criticism about her weight and misshapen eyebrows. She seems to think that the best way to get her point across is in all caps. Raven, 22, was responding to negative stories that came out about her after she attended the Tinkerbell DVD premiere on Sunday. Our friends at Best Week Ever are among the blogs that mentioned her appearance, and commenters said at the time that it wasn’t fair to call her out for being a bigger young woman. Raven agrees and at first she wanted us to know about it – before she ended up regretting this caps lock rant and deleting it.

I AM A THICK GIRL, I HAVE NEVER BEEN OVER A SIZE 12, I CAN RUN, AND I TRY MY BEST TO EAT RIGHT ALL THE TIME. Raven’s myspace (warning: link has automatic loud music) is now just a broken image and some of her very annoying music. I didn’t check it out yesterday but it looks like she took a page from the John Mayer school of celebrity blogging and deleted everything once she got some press for her blogging.
I feel badly for this girl because she seems like she was affected by the criticism and maybe we should be more aware of it, especially with younger celebrities like Symoné who may take negative comments to heart. You have to have a thick skin when you’re famous, but that doesn’t mean you’re not human and it doesn’t affect you.
Symoné last starred on the Disney show That’s So Raven from 2003 to the end of the show late last year. She was also on The Cheetah Girls. She has a how-to website, Raven Symoné Presents (link has automatic video) along with a music career with several albums out.
Hang in there Raven. You have fans and they’re not concerned about your weight or eyebrows. If you could learn to capitalize properly and not scream your writing you might earn some more admirers.
Update: It’s possible the blog entry supposedly written by Raven is a fake. As fancyfree points out below, her official myspace is still up. The myspace linked yesterday by sites referencing this story has been replaced, though. The other myspace could either be a secondary account from which she blogged or just someone trying to spoof her. It was in the “music” section of MySpace though – can anyone just get their account assigned there?

My daughter and I have loved Raven for years. She is very talented and her physical comedy reminds me of Lucille Ball. Why are people so mean-spirited these days? I think 8 years of Bush, the war, the economy, gas prices, debt, have pushed everyone over the edge. Time to pull it back, people!

I think that she is a beautiful NORMAL person. She was a cute kid that got her foot in the door. She has a good stronge voice (much better than most of those warble on the radio). So what she’s a bit larger than average size. Average size in America (land of the fat and free) is 10-12. I give her a 14-16. I still like her incredibly more than 99% of the celebrities out there. And did ya’ll know she was born on the cane river in Louisiana. So there. Look at what she had to work with. She’s a Louisiana native. Some others from around these parts are way more famous for being way less of a person.
My 8 year old son just walked up and said that he loves Raven. He doesn’t think she is in anyway fat. He said that she’s a beautiful person. And those making fun of her eyebrows probably only have one. Hey, he’s only 8 but I still think he’s got a point. Lets all look in the mirror.
Raven’s TV show targets young children in the 6 to 10 age group, and I think her music finds an audience in the pre- and young teen age group. My nine year old loves the show and Raven, and I find nothing objectionable about that. It seems rather foolish for adult women on this blog to complain about how much they hate the show, doesn’t it?
Offset, Raven conducts her private life quietly and with dignity, and how many celebrities, adult or child, can that be said of?
It is a shame that so many people who are old enough to know better get their kicks berating an introspective and vulnerable young woman who is essentially harmless and has many fine qualities.

I wonder of all those people who wrote here criticizing this young woman for her weight (with sneering comments so appropriate for people who sit annonymously behind a computer and never have to venture in front of the public with their less-than-perfect figures!), if they are the sames ones who sneer at Victoria Beckham for being “scary skinny” etc. Who are the first to deride actresses or models who might be anorexic or have eating disorders.

I think she’s quite cute. there are plenty of guys (me for one) that don’t think “thick” women are ugly. the farther you get away from hollywood, ca the more you can see people’s ideas on weight differ greatly. Yeah…uh…I’m a size 10 or 12…and that ain’t a size 12. That’s closer to a size 18-20. I think Raven is a very pretty girl, but let’s call all of this as it actually is.
I don’t have a problem with any body shape because I’ve seen women of all sizes do themselves justice. There is a man with an eye for every female shape out there…if you work it.
I feel horribly for her being so publicly set down for being overweight, but that’s the industry she lives in. She’s made a lot of money and had a lot of opportunities because of that industry. If she doesn’t any longer wish to conform to it…she can leave and still be better off than the other 99.9% of her countrymen. Fame has certain ugly realities that are inescapable no matter how unfair they are.
She’s an adorable girl, but she’s no size 12. If she’s not ashamed of her appearance, then she should think about other girls who look like her…the ones in sizes 16+…and not indulge in blatantly lying when she’s trying to defend being overweight. There are lots of little pre-adolescent girls watching Raven, and they listen to everything she says. How she conducts herself in this area is important.
Oh…and as to the eyebrows…I like her eyebrows! They’re different and they make her whole face bright and humorous. I hope she never messes with them.

I always have thought she was cute. Even when she played the role of Olivia on the Cosby show. I like the fact that she is a real sized woman as opposed to the crack headed celebs that most of these people like. Unfortunately Celebitchy is known for the catty comments put on here and it is kind of ridiculous that a bunch of “mature” old cows on here like to talk smack when it is them that wish looked that size. Big girls are attractive too and it isn’t taboo to think so either. I like her. I think she is cute and talented. But, she is bigger than a 12. I only say this because she is very curvy and has a pretty large chest. I too suffer from the large chest. I have to buy a dress 2 sizes bigger than what it should be to zip up over them. I think she is probably a size 16 or 18, but then gets it altered.
Dress size shouldn’t matter though. The more people harp on a stress eater, the harder it is for them to change eating habits. Leave her alone.

Her chest is what makes her seem so large. I can sympathize. I have a size 10 waist but my chest forces me to wear 12 clothes. So all my shirst and dresses fit looser than I would like, but if they were smaller I’d be indecent.
Can’t we just be happy that there is a lovely large woman out there who isn’t trying to fit herself into clothes way to small for her? She dresses appropiatly for her size and carries herself like a true mature woman. She’s a great role model.
