Warning: this is extremely violent
A new sneak preview for Walking Dead Season Two, which is filming now, was released after the AMC premiere of Breaking Bad season 4 this Sunday. (I haven’t seen the new BB yet but this reminds me to get it on iTunes tonight!) The clip (above) is just of protagonist Rick smashing in some zombie’s head with a rock. The show is incredibly gritty and this video reminds me of the violence and realism on Walking Dead that can potentially haunt your dreams. I try not to watch it right before bed and I found this clip disturbing. It made my stomach flip. I like the show more for the character development and story and find the violence off-putting, but you get used to it and it sometimes seems necessary given the plot.
Spoilers for last season:
I’ve read all the Walking Dead comics* and have already seen how this next season potentially plays out. However, the last two episodes of the first TV season were unlike anything in the comics in that there was no CDC and no master computer that threatened to blow everyone up. I found that plot twist incredibly dumb and unnecessary. Why would a computer detonate an entire building with no override function? It was just asinine. It’s already been revealed by multiple people involved in the show’s production that the show will follow the comics closely in this next season.
To find out more potential (mild) spoilers for the upcoming season, highlight the text below:
In the comics, the group spends time in the countryside on a farm and we’re introduced to some new characters. There’s also a new romance for Glenn, and we get to see that on the show. The farm is definitely happening this season.
Here are four spoiler–filled links to interviews and details about the second season, which doesn’t premiere until October! They should have been on this sooner in order to rollout the new season by the end of the summer, but I doubt they anticipated how popular it would be.
I’m looking forward to Walking Dead, but the creepiness factor gets to me, especially when I see videos like this where we’re just confronted with violence without any context. When you see it as part of a whole well-told episode, it’s not as bad. I’m pretty squeamish with violence though.
If you’re in the US, you can see more clips behind the scenes on AMCtv.com
*On a side note, I never read comics until I got started with Walking Dead and now I love them. The downside is that they’re addictive and can get expensive. I use the Comixology app, which is free on the iPad and iPod, with comics that cost about $1.99 each. Other series I recommend from Comixology are Y: The Last Man, Forgetless, and Morning Glories. I never really got into the hero comics, but there are surely some excellent ones.
Eh. I’ve seen worse. I’m desensitzied to tv/ movie violence so this doesn’t bother me at all. Excited for S2! 🙂
I freaking love this show and can’t wait for it to come back on! I guess I’m pretty desensitized to the violence and the sneak peek was just right. Creepy & simplistic.
@Kaiser – Thanks for the app recommendation. I plan on checking it out. I have really been wanting to get into the comics but it slips my mind.
I just scrolled right on down so I wouldn’t have to look. I’m NOT desensitized to violence and gore, I abhor it, so I avoid as much as possible and when I’m exposed to it against my will I rage. I resent that I’m exposed the images from the “Bodies” exhibit. It gives me nightmares. If I could go somewhere where I would never be exposed to horror or violent movies and images I would.
Frankly, I don’t like all the gore. I’ll stick with watching Breaking Bad and rallying to get Rubicon back on air.
But but he was killing a zombie. I would much rather see Rick do that to a Zombie then see what a zombie does to Rick or any of the other humans. OMG just think back to Season 1 and that horse. I am super excited for the new season and I hope its a tad longer then six episodes.
WTF, how is this any more violent than the entire first season?! It’s a gory show about killing zombies for those who like gory shows about killing zombies. Duh.
i agree with the posters that are super excited for the new season, loving this show!!! i personally love the gritty, violent scenes bc they make perfect sense for the world these people are living in!
thanks for the spoiler links!
WD gives me nightmares too, but I`ll be sticking with it for the characterisation.
Bella, I LOVED Rubicon and am sad it`s not returning. How do I join your rally?
I love this show. Can’t wait for the new season and it’s gonna be good!
LOVE this show—can’t wait til it’s on again!!!!! YAY
Thanks for this, I like when you gals break off.
I’ve just barely stopped having nightmares from last season. Sure the violence is intense, but we’re killing zombies here for goodness sake. I’m looking forward to Merle, the crazy guy who cut off his own hand, making a reappearance. He’s worse than the zombies.
This series rocks. Zombie violence doesn’t bother me one bit. It’s good vs. evil, to the core. There’s a necessary roughness that comes with zombie killing.
I’m on RED ALERT for zombies. I’v got my sawed off shotgun, compound bow,and favorite zombie scarf.Oh,and smores stuff. Havta make smores around the campfire.
My husband and I love BB, and watched Sunday. We were excited when we heard there would be a preview of Walking Dead, as we love that show too! I was a little disappointed in that it didn’t reveal anything! Maaan!
It´s ok to kill zombies because they´re already dead, they´re not people, they´re just things that want to eat you.
Bring on the zombies and the zombie killin’! This show scares the pants off of me and that’s why I watch it. I haven’t had nightmares like that in years. It was fabulous!
It’s a show about the end of the world and zombies, so yeah, it’s going to be brutal. Just the way I like it.!
i tried watching this show but after 2 episodes i was too scared and had to stop.
yeah, i’m a big puss.
Riveting! Love this show! Can’t wait for WD to begin again! Thx for the clip.
If you like Walking Dead, you should try Hellblazer (they made a movie, Constantine – starring Keanu! Playing a blond northern Englishman lol…) and The Preacher, which is only 9 volumes of awesomeness. I also love Fables and Unwritten and 28 Days Later…
Normally – I’m pretty numb to violence…in the context of a show.
But since this trailer was 1 minute of him smashing zombies with rocks, it was a bit much.
I’m mostly excited that it’s ALL NEW WRITERS this season. I’m a sucker for anything zombie, so I stuck out the crappy writing last year and hope the change will be for the better.
I liked the idea of the Walking Dead when it first came out a year or so ago. I love a good zombie/Apocalypse style movie and watching a band of people just trying to survive together, BUT what I didnt like was all the stupid relationship part of Lori banging Shane just because she thought her husband had been dead for all of what, a day? I mean, i know this isnt a mirror to real life, its just a show, but what I loved about 28 Days Later was Celina wasn’t interested in having sex with the first mildly attractive man she met(well, not at first), she just wanted to find a quiet place to survive. And thats what I want to watch, how would you survive in the world full of zombies! Maybe Im just not a ‘girly’ girl, I hate chick flicks because I just dont want to watch a twat fret over the fact she cant find someone to bang all the time like the chicks in these shows do. How one dimensional for the women on the show!
woo hoo! LOVE anything with zombies. Can’t wait to see WWZ as well – the book was fantastic. I want to know how he ended up in the woods without a weapon.
comiclovernessa: I just started reading Fable and loved it! I have the first comic of Walking Dead but I’m more into Sandman and Fable right now. Both great comic novels …
I think given what this show is about the violence is necessary and meaningful and I’m glad they do it in this gritty way. It’s about the end of humanity … the last breaths of a dying animal … the violence is poigniont in that manner. I loved the show despite the ending and can’t wait for more …
