People are always giving Helen Mirren awards for her body. I remember… I think it was last year, when Esquire was doing polling on the hottest Hollywood women, the editors were shocked at how many men, of all ages, loved Helen Mirren and thought she was a hot piece. Helen recently “won” the “best body” title by LA Fitness, beating out Jennifer Lopez and Kelly Brook, amongst others. Helen has finally gotten the chance to respond:
Helen Mirren has admitted she was stunned to be given a ‘Best Body’ title and insists Jennifer Lopez should have got the award. The 66 year old star beat J-Lo, Elle MacPherson and Kelly Brook to the title awarded by fitness chain LA Fitness.
Mirren said she probably got the title as a ‘sympathy vote’ and said Lopez should have won.
‘It’s ridiculous: J-Lo is a thousand times, a thousand million times more of a beautiful body than I am, head-to-toe,’ said Mirren. ‘Maybe I got sympathy votes. But it was a beautiful thing that these fitness people did, I have to say. I think it was recognition of the fact that you don’t have to be perfect.’
Gym chain LA Fitness said of the award last month: ‘Helen Mirren’s victory in our Best Body poll illustrates how, when it comes to body maintenance and well-being, age really is nothing but a number. It’s great to see the public celebrating bodies of all shapes and sizes, and proving that you really can look fabulous over 40 and 50.’
Speaking on CBS TV ‘The Early Show, Mirren said she planned to talk to 40 year old Lopez about the award.
‘My husband is working with J. Lo at the moment in his latest movie, and he was thrilled because the pictures of me and J. Lo both on the front page of a newspaper, and he’s, ‘Oh, my two leading ladies.”
Asked if she had spoken to the American Idol judge, Mirren said: ‘Not yet. I’m sure we will, but it’s iniquitous, she’s a thousand times more beautiful than I am. It’s just kindness, the kindness of strangers.’
Mirren spoke about the Best Body award while promoting her new film ‘The Debt’ which opens in the US on Wednesday.

You know I like Jennifer’s body too, and my problem is just with Jennifer’s funky styling. That being said, I think I would prefer to have Kelly Brook’s epic hourglass figure rather than J.Lo’s or Helen’s. Although… Helen’s body looked like Kelly’s when Helen was younger.
By the way, I’m totally going to see The Debt this weekend. I can’t wait! It looks so good, and even though Roger Ebert said it had some issues. Should I do a review of it after I see it? Here’s the trailer again… Marton Csokas reminds me of Clive Owen (sigh, biscuit tingle).

She is darn near perfect! Talented, lovely, great body, & modest!
Yes, please review the movie….it looks good!
Helen, Helen, Helen – I love you and think you would make a potato sack look classy! No sympathy here – just sheer admiration!
Oh please Helen not you going into this Leann Rimes territory, I thought you were beyond whinging about this body issue crap, embrace your age, beauty and health and don’t play the sympathy card, it is not becoming.
Another celebrity fishing for compliments.
I am with you Kaiser, The Debt is on my to do list this weekend as well. I think as far as the voting goes, I think that is was more than the physical personality plays a factor as well. We have seen and heard in interviews over the years that she has……something special which alot of people won’t say about Lopez. Also, a Taylor Hackford/Jennifer Lopez film……..maybe it won’t be a disaster?
her body made me dust off my tae bo workouts to try and look half as good
She is so cute and tiny. I’m a little over 5’7″ and I was head and shoulders above her. Sweet sweet woman!
Dame Mirren does not fish for compliments. It’s beneath her!
wtf this movie looks like a lot of history BS and i hate when they do it.
Yes, do a review Kaiser
She’s gorgeous, she’s perfect she (almost)makes me want to get older.
No Helen, people praise your body because you and your publicists go on about it. And show it off, like you did with your bikini photo on SNL.
You really really really look good! No sympathy.
She is lovely.
And I will totally be in the audience for this movie. It looks INTENSE.
I adore her. Talented & beautiful.
Well, it’s more like they’re misinformed. Other bikini photos of her show that the red bikini shot was probably a result of the camera angle and her body position. Her body is actually in the shape of what you’d expect any other 60-something to be. She does have amazing styling and looks great on the red carpet, though.
Yes, Helen, we like you, we really like you.
Helen’s got an amazing body and she knows how to dress it well. Jennifer on the otherhand has no idea how to dress herself.
It sounds weird that the finalists were Elle MacPherson and Kelly Brook…It sounds like it is a UK survey and not one by LA Fitness. I barely know who Kelly Brook is.
I think Helen is great, and I don’t think she is fishing for compliments. She is humble and simply remarking on how odd it is that a woman her age beat out people decades younger. It IS odd, it would be weird if she didn’t comment on it.
The difference between Helen and the other people being discussed is I don’t think Helen’s had any work done. I know Lopez has.
I can understand her attitude about it, though. I’m sure she’s flattered, but she’s probably thinking they’re patronising her, like when you’re 40, in the grocery store, and some greased up twerp asks you for ID for the wine in your cart. I wanted to smack him.
Sympathy for what? I think her body is bangin’. But that’s totally irrelevant next to her talent. She’s an awesome actress.
HM is one of the great actresses of thios ere. Love her! Best body? Not! When she’s slim, like now, she’s got a small waist under a very full bosom. She’s also got a very full a** to go with it, and stumpy legs with near-cankles. One of her early films when she was about 18 had her running around a tropical island in a bathing suit the whole time. Stumpy legs with thick ankles & a pudgy middle. Her co-star was James Mason.
When she was “The Queen”, HM said “The queen has better legs.”
@Kaiser
Helen looks just fantastic.
If you’re a mind to, I’d request that you review her movie “The Debt”. It looks very interesting and I would like to know your thoughts.
I got to see The Debt at a pre-screen in Atlanta and boy was it good. Anyway, my friend and I were talking about Helen and how truly amazeballs she is and she mentioned that Helen walks like a young woman. You see most 66-year-olds from behind walking, bent over, and they just have a very aged (re: old) aura. But honestly, Helen, you’re hot, you’re 66 and you’re still really hot.
My feelings on Helen Mirren’s physical appearance can be best summed up this exchange on 30 Rock:
Jack: “Oh my… I haven’t seen your brow that furrowed since you saw that picture of Helen Mirren in a bikini.”
Liz Lemon: “How is it possible! Is she a wizard?”
Jack: “A question for another time Lemon.”
She is smokin’. I think she looks hotter now than in younger pics I’ve seen of her.
Sympathy? Not quite!
Helen looks awesome for her age, and the best part is that I think she’s aged naturally — no surgery, Botox, fillers — and doesn’t spend endless hours exercising. Nor does she starve herself or obsess about her looks.
Inner confidence and joy are what make a person truly attractive, and Helen’s got that in spades.
Oh, Helen, you are so wrong! No one says that about your body, only your face!
J.K. Too funny to pass up. Apologies!
Dear Helen,
Your body is still epic. And people love it because it doesn’t look like it was created entirely out of liposuction, sutures, and silicone. And because there’s a smart, well-spoken, and talented person living inside it.
Love,
The Public
…and she is right. sorry to say
Marton Csokas! He is a Kiwi (from New Zealand) 😀 . How awesome is it that that movie stars a New Zealander and an Australian (Sam Worthington) hehe.
The movie looks good, definitely would love to read your review of it Kaiser.
I know what #20 means; still, I think she’s built, she knows it, we know it and she’s just being a good sport about the whole contest baloney.
