I want to like Selena Gomez. She’s cute and seems like a really low-drama, possibly humble celebrity. Even still, there’s something icky about the fact that she’s 19 and we’re talking about her hot pants as opposed to her hopes of going to college, or her charity work, or something actually worthwhile.

I know her more from Wizards of Waverly Place. I thought she was known for being an actress more than a singer. But…the song of hers that I know is “I Love You Like a Love Song.” It’s not bad…and I know this because I watch the Disney channel with my Grandkids.

I guess I’m honestly confused why we care about what Kate Middleton contributes to the world but we don’t care whether Selena Gomez goes to college or not. I’m not trying to stir up trouble, just trying to understand the double standard.
Steve Jobs did go to college–Reed College. He just didn’t graduate. Even after he withdrew from college, he still audited courses.

Selena Gomez is totally on the Steve Jobs track. Astute comparison. She’s probably got Reed on the short list because of their strong physics department etc. She’s a visionary, total command of market dynamics.

Gomez is so absolutely adorable, it’s a shame she doesn’t have much talent. Her acting is so-so, but her singing is atrocious. She can whisper/sing/talk her way through things, and when fixed in studio they aren’t bad, but she has learned that dating famous is the way to go, so she should be ok.

I think that Matthew Weiner definitely hates January Jones, and I also think this recent blind item (from Buzzfoto via Gawker) is about her, because Betty Draper role has been getting less and less glamorous over the past 2 seasons:
