These are photos from last night’s LA premiere of The Rum Diary. Johnny looks pretty nice here, I think. I like his hair this length, and I like that he put on a suit and actually tried. The Rum Diary is a passion project for Depp – that much I got from his VF interview.
Speaking of, I know a lot of you are over Johnny Depp these days, what with his support of Roman Polanski, and then his douchey, out-of-touch, and offensive comments in Vanity Fair about how photo shoots equal rape. Well, I read the whole interview, and while Johnny totally said those things and he was completely right in apologizing for it, I also think that he wasn’t being interviewed by the best person. The dude interviewing him was an old friend and godfather to his son. And the whole interview was rather lacking as far as “Johnny being an interesting person.” It’s been explained to me time and time again why he’s so interesting and cool, but time and time again, he fails to reveal that side of himself in interviews, and part of the problem is that Johnny rarely gets interviewed by anyone other than his sycophantic friends. Whenever he was asked about anything more than superficial, Johnny muttered “I dunno” or “I don’t care.” It was tedious.
I’m also including photos of Johnny’s female costar, Amber Heard. I think Amber is really pretty on her own, but in these photos she’s giving me Scarlett Johansson vibes. Right? The dress is Elie Saab, and it’s very pretty – nay, stunning – on her. My only quibble is with her hair – it’s too blonde, and there should be some roots or low-lights, because these extreme blonde is washing her out.
And here’s some Aaron Eckhart. He looks great.

I felt the same way about the full interview. I wish someone else had done it because it seemed as if the interviewer didn’t really write much about what Johnny thought, said, or really anything about the movie he’s supposed to be promoting. It was mostly the guy reminiscing over the last time he saw Johnny. Sometimes it felt like I was overhearing two people talking mid conversation. The interview was just plain disjointed. What’s with interviewers nowadays mostly writing about the what they think/their impressions of the actor and hardly anything else?
I like Johnny’s hair longer and will go to see this movie.

I agree with a previous poster that Johnny looks like has has gained a lot of weight – but overall, he still looks good.
The female is quite beautiful but I dont like the dress – it is cut too high on her leg and makes her leg look fatty fatty fatty.

Yes, he is bloated. Yes, he’s been more bloated before, but he’s hiding his beer/wine belly well in that suit…but it’s there. His haircut and styling is AWFUL & unkempt, at best. Also, he looks waxen and pale. He’s NOT HEALTHY, & needs to do something ASAP.
Amber Heard, to me, is absolutely breathtaking! IMO, she doesn’t need to change anything. Actually, she’s one of the prettiest actresses I’ve seen lately. She is gorgeous.
He looks very bloated just like when he was filming The Tourist. I was really bothered by the recent photos of his daughter Lily. She had on a very inappropriate outfit and I was sad to see Pap pictures of her dressed that way. Creepy paps.
Depp is 48; I hope the young babe isn’t his “love interest” in the movie cause I’m a little tired of the old men/young babes thing.

He looks cleaner and more put together than usual, but still a bit puffy. The young woman’s dress is beautiful, but she blends into the background (she is fair, which is fine but she is the same color as the backdrop).
I’ve had the hots for Johnny for 2 decades. These days, Johnny makes me feel sad and old. I’ve realized the emperor has no clothes.
Johnny looks, well, normal. I was a bit worried that he turned into Gary Oldman on asthma medications in the Tourist cos he looked bloated, but now he’s ok looking, mid-aged guy. He’s like a cross Jarvis Cocker-Adam Ant, two rockstars who managed to stay cool and be comfortable at their ages. I think he’s going for that persona/look.
Still like him. Never found him very attractive, although he is good looking, but interesting, lovely, sweet and fascinating…hell, yeah!
He’s getting fat. I think the drugs (then) and booze (now) are catching up to him. No more surgical tweeking. He either ages full on (gracefully) or becomes a joke, like Madonna
Johnny is Johnny. He stuck his foot in his mouth. So What? He was man enough to apologize, which apparently according to the posts above, mean absolutely nothing to anyone. Is it a wonder he has an attitude? Can’t say as I blame him. As far as his weight issues, as an actor he has had to go from husky in The Tourist, to thin in Dark Shadows. All actors have to deal with the perils of yo yo dieting in an effort to bring realism to their characters. BTW, people~he’s been dressing this way since time out of mind, messy hair included and he has always been loved and accepted regardless of his quirky ways, but because he just happened to have a couple of bad days~everyone wants to get mouthy about stupid b.s like his past, his drinking, his dress, his hair…how pathetic. You all are posting stuff about this man like he has never done anything good in his life. If you can’t forgive him and accept him for who he is, and as he is that’s just too bad for you. But I don’t see him judging any of YOU.
Suit is horrid. There is something so unbecoming of a person his age trying to be “cool”. It is very uncool.

About VF interview I totally accord! the “douche” is the man who interviewed him…I didn’t care what the author wanted to say! I wanted to read what Johnny had to say and the writer barely wrote a few disjointed sentences from Johnny’s mouth!…what a bad read!

He’s always had a bit of a round face with those very prominent cheekbones. He may have put on a little weight but I wouldn’t say he’s bloated.
I think he holds some weird views. He’s always been a bit strange. But before Pirates, nobody really interviewed him which was fine because he’s extremely shy. Now he has been this A-lister and more of him is coming out, poorly because he really is terrible in interviews. But his actions over the years show a generous, if not strange, man.

Amber, unlike Scarlett, can actually act. Scarlett’s main characterization came from her boobs. She’s lost the hot and isn’t being given her indie-cred roles anymore.
Amber has acting chops and is gorgeous too. Plus, I love that she’s out and has great parts that don’t relegate her to being the gay best friend a la Rupert Everett.
Unfortunately, Johnny Depp insists on keeping that ratty goatee thing, but it doesn’t aid in a more masculine appearance. I’m afraid he’s on his way to ending up on one of Cracked’s lists of men who totally look like women.
It pains me to say this… but Johnny is really losing the hotness. His look has just become tired with age.
Aaron Eckhart on the other hand… Mmmmmm. Now that is maturing well.
Johnny has sold out for the paycheck for a while now. It’s like around the 1st installment of Pirates of the Caribbean that mega paychecks dictates his film choice and he hasn’t done anything really interesting in years now. At least with Brad and Angie who are mega-stars like Johnny, they give back to people in need but Johnny? What has he really done expect take money from the US and go live in Europe?

Like someone already said Johnny is Johnny what you see is what you get.
He is a humble sweet human being who got tossed into this crazy life he is in. I totally admire him not because of his looks although he is gorgeous but because of him I have become interested in art, music,poetry, literature stuff I would never had known existed if I hadn’t become a fan.
Johnny was and still is the hottest and best actor alive. I think you Johnny bashers are just plain jealous.
Despite minor demerits for wrinkliness and the watch fob (I saw a hipster kid in skinny jeans wearing one at the Arby’s just the other day, and this is only slightly less lame), overall he looks good. The shoes are mostly in good shape even. I too like the hair. I figure as a general rule, either he should grow it back out a la Gilbert Grape (minus the red dye) or do something like this.

Ehh, I don’t think he looks bloated or pale, tbqh. I’ve seen these pics on different sites and from different angles. He pretty much looks the same. If anything the fit of the suit is a little off. You can tell it wasn’t tailored at all. That’s totally him. Also in some of the pics I saw on one of his fansites, he was actually smiling a little at this event. Now those pics are actually quite charming.
I guess RDJ is the only one who’s allowed to wear a suit now? :/ I love the guy too, but come on.
I will always love Johnny…but in these pix he does look bloated & he doesn’t look too happy about it. But I’ll still take him. And I’m sure he’ll be back in fighting shape within the year.:)

JD is a great and entertaining actor, but I have become a bit ‘meh’ about him in all other respects. I’m not as much of a JD fan as I once was.
Johnny looks amazing here. If he sounded douchey in the Vanity Fair interview, it was the writer’s fault probably. He was on Larry King last night and apologized again. He’s still the best and my favorite.
