Was it inappropriate for Willow Smith to see Breaking Dawn?

wenn3611155

Willow Smith is 11 years old. Is that too young to see Breaking Dawn Part 1? I’ve seen the trailer, and there seems to be a lot of “thrusting” going on in the movie, so maybe it’s inappropriate for 11 year olds? If you couldn’t tell, Willow was at the Breaking Dawn premiere, and it doesn’t seem like she was there with either or her parents. Maybe she was with an older cousin or something…? Maybe she only walked the red carpet and then went home? I’m trying to think if I was allowed to see movies with thrusting when I was 11 years old. Probably – my parents let me watch whatever I wanted, and look at me now. A dong-obsessed *mutter mutter* year old. Would Willow be the same?

Regardless of whether it was appropriate for Willow to even be at this premiere, what do you think of her outfit? And don’t start yelling and saying mean things about a kid. I tend to think that much like Lady Gaga, Willow is finding it difficult, at the ripe old age of 11, to maintain the crazy outfits and the “new looks” for each new appearance. This outfit didn’t even seem like she was trying to be the pint-sized Gaga or Nicki Minaj. The gold boots are pretty righteous, though.

Willow is really starting to look like her dad, right? She’s a combination of her parents – she got her mom’s almond-shaped eyes (gorgeous), and then everything else looks like Will.

oh, sheesh, those Smith kids really irk me with their over-inflated egos. They should spend some time with the Jolie-Pitts to undo some of that hyper-inflated and narcissistic self-esteem

  2. Bite me says:

    Go back to school child

  3. Jackie says:

i wish her celebrity parents would stop pushing her at us. she is 11!

    it kinda turns my stomach.

  4. Kaye says:

    I think she’s a cutie. That’s age-appropriate attire, IMO.

  5. kay says:

well, it’s better than Kristen Stewart’s awkwardness. at least she is enjoying herself.

I saw Grease at age 9, so… I would let me 10 yr old watch, after I did, to make sure. But she is at the “ew!” stage about kissing.

  6. tapioca says:

To be fair she’s probably the only one there in the age range these books are actually aimed at and she looks cute. Maybe a little try-hard – but at least she’s not dressed like a mini-slut, like so many tweenage girls today.

    Darn, I sound old…

  7. f8th says:

    ahhh she is adorable

  8. constance says:

Although its PG13, I don’t think she should be there posing without her parents. She’s not a celebrity and shouldn’t be pimped out alone for shots like this.

PR note: The public tends to be really happy when seeing family’s together for outings.

However these are Co$ cronies. I believe it more every time I see the Smiths.

“Here she is-, Ms. 11-yr-old Adult making her own de-cisions. Watching mo-vies that are a tale of vio-lence and confused sex-uality.”

  9. Emma says:

Why do her parents coach her to be like that? That first picture – cocky display – quite disturbing.

  10. Victoria says:

I think they were referring to the appropriateness of watching the sex scene. And no, she’s too young for that. Shame on her parents!

  11. lucy2 says:

I’m starting to feel sad for her. That’s too much pressure on a kid, and it’s clearly messing with the egos, which won’t be good.
    She looks EXACTLY like Will.

  12. Leigh says:

Not an age appropriate film for an 11 year old. That being said, she’s not your average 11 year old – so perhaps different rules apply.

@Kay – are you really comparing Breaking Dawn to Grease??? … .. Have you READ Breaking Dawn? I realize Rizzo has a pregnancy scare in Grease, but I would venture to say that Breaking Dawn is a bit more graphic and sexually suggestive than Grease ever was. I know the birthing scene is in the second film, but the violence involved in the pregnancy alone in the novel far outweighs anything in Grease. Yikes Woman.

  13. tripmom says:

I have a question. When does she actually get to be a KID?

  14. Linnie says:

Way too young to be attending something like this without her parents. Growing up too fast. Really sad.

  15. mika says:

My Mum took me to see Titanic when I was 9, there is some thrusting in that movie. My parents were pretty typically Canadian about movies though. Didn’t really care about sex onscreen, but hated violence.

  16. ladybert62 says:

Hum – I cant say anything negative about this kid – ok – then I wont say anything as I have nothing positive to say about her.

  17. Dibba says:

Feel bad since she’s only a child, but she annoys the heck out of me.

  18. ShanKat says:

    She’s gorgeous.

I feel so sad for cult kids. If she enjoys Twilight movies, let her…I imagine her home life is pretty confusing.

Her outfit is totally appropriate, I love the jacket…and she isn’t wearing any makeup.

I think she should be mostly beyond criticism, since she’s just a wee one. Yeah, she’s an entertainer, but she’s still a little girl.

  19. Charmander says:

She has her mom’s hands, too.

  20. autumndaze says:

Child should be in school and enjoying a normal childhood. Period.

  21. jen says:

    she is will smith.

  22. Danziger says:

Beautiful girl, also has beautiful, slender hands. I notice hands, don’t hit me in the face.

  23. missy says:

Most 11 year olds are watching t.v. shows and movies that are much more sexual and/or violent than Breaking Dawn. I don’t see the big deal about her being allowed to watch this movie. Having said that,I don’t really like the way her parents are turning her into a celebrity.

  24. Jackson says:

    I’m with ladybert62.

  25. Courtney says:

Oh please her going to see the twilight movie would be simillar to Claire Newman watching the TV movie Sybil 35 years ago at the same age though vampires are totally different than a mentally ill person as Sybil is and by the way Claire’s mom plays the phsychatrist in the film so it could’ve been used as a teaching tool

  26. Delta Juliet says:

She’s dressed appropriately but the poses and facial expressions ruin it for me. 11 or not she comes off as a punk. And so does her brother.

I read all the books, and I wouldn’t take an 11 year old to see it.

  27. Scarlet Vixen says:

I’m all for young kids being confident in themselves and finding their own identity. But I find extreme cockiness so off-putting in both children and adults. Pre-teens tend to be the most obnoxious age to begin with, and mix in celebrity+cockiness+my shit don’t stink and I bet this kid is insufferable. I expected more from the Fresh Prince.

  28. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

I don’t like how she’s being encouraged to act WAY older than 11. I agree with @constance, the COS thinks children should be treated like adults but children need guidance and discipline, not free reign to make their own decisions. Willow is already acting like an adult at 11 and Suri dresses however she likes (heels and no coat in the NY winter, while her mother wears one). Suri also appears to choose her own bedtime (and checks out penis gummies at midnight with her mom) LOL. I don’t think this bodes well for the smith or cruise families

  29. jermsmom says:

i don’t see anything wrong with an 11 year old seeing Breaking Dawn – there is just as much thrusting on prime time television and far more sexual innuendo. I think it is more inappropriate that her parents allow her to walk the carpet alone and famewhore herself. The outfit is cute, her actions are typical of a kid her age, I have no problem with how she looks or what she is doing – my problem is with her parents allowing her to do it for publicity.
Take a look at the look on the face of the lady with her arm over the barricade in the first photo…yeah, I would probably be giving the same look…at her parents.

  30. Criss says:

I don’t like watching sex scenes with or without my kids, who are older. I’m opposite of prude, but watching staged sex is just stupid, I’d rather watch action any day. We all get it when 2 characters are in bed or kissing and groping, we don’t need to get into the thrusting part.
It’s the writer, director, and actors out of touch with what the audience really wants, sex doesn’t sell when it’s just other people getting lucky. Unless it’s porn.

  31. kay says:

    @ Leigh!

LMAO! go reread your post. you sound so funny!

back in my day, Grease was very risque!

times have changed, and now we have BD to set the bar.

    thanks for your post!

  32. spinner says:

Yep…the facial expressions…she looks like a little punk & so does her brother. I want to wipe that smug look off her face & send her to bed.

  33. Bernice says:

Saw her on X Factor. It was embarrassingly awful (her performance – I like the show). She is 11 and I am already waaaay over her. I’ll watch any movie Will Smith makes, but Willow, please go back to school and stay there for another decade, then see if you have any talent, because other than dressing weirdly you’ve got nothing, IMHO, going right now.

  34. TXCinderella says:

Boy, she thinks she is really something doesn’t she? Honey your parents are the stars, not you…even if you do whip your hair back and forth Miz thang.

  35. dahlia1947 says:

Who cares right? Parents have to start their kids early on attention whoring even if it means seeing a movie that is not for their age group!

  36. Maya says:

I doubt I would have been allowed to see a movie like this when I was 11, but then again, my parents were kind of strict and Willow’s obviously aren’t.

  37. Beth says:

Age: 11 going on Lindsay Lohan.

  38. Micah says:

What I find disrespectful…is the extremely cocky poses
with a “Look at me” delivery.

Willow – This is a premiere for a movie you are not in.

Trying to garner attention from the people who worked on the actual film, and who’s event this belongs too is really……lame.

11 or not, your parents should have taught you this.

  39. Elvynn says:

There are nothing in BD! False promotion even the critics said so. So, i don’t think it was inappriopriate for her.

  40. Reece says:

    Sitting in ladyberts corner.

  41. texasmom says:

I have an 11-year-old girl and we’ve been avoiding Breaking Dawn, it helps that she realized that the series is actually pretty crappy and she lost interest at the end of the second book! I thought the scary pregnancy something more to avoid than the sex for a kid this age. I let my kids read most stuff, though, for example, my daughter’s FAVORITE book is “Go Ask Alice.”

I think Willow should have one of her grownups with her at a big public event.

But I think she is getting REALLY BEAUTIFUL, and except for that one kissy-face shot she looked age-appropriate to me. I so appreciate that this girl’s clothes are modest, even if zany. She is always covered up.

  42. Kim says:

YES WAYYYYY to young. Her parents need a good shaking! And Willows attitude is the worst. No one likes a bratty kid with attitude. Her parents are doing a wonderful job – NOT!

  43. Deb says:

Eh…when I was her age, I knew the stork didn’t bring me. Actually, I knew that when I was 7 or 8. I knew enough about sex that seeing a sex scene in some lame vampire movie would be no big deal. And kids today get exposed to so much more than I did back then!

  44. Trek Girl says:

@Micah: Disrespectful? If the people running the premiere didn’t want anyone but the stars to get attention, they would have had everyone else enter using a side or back enterance. She’s on the red carpet, so she’s going to get attention; that’s what it’s there for. I guarantee you she is not doing that completely on her own; someone told her to do it or said it was ok, so you’re the one that doesn’t know what to do in that situation, not her.

All of you commenters saying that she’s somehow being “cocky” for doing what she’s doing, sound ridiculous. What she does on red carpets and at events is part of the training she goes through. She’s not doing anything inappropriate, she’s not doing anything vulgar, and she’s certainly not upstaging the “Twilight” actors; she’s doing some poses on the red carpet, which is what people who aren’t in the movies that are being premiered do all the time. That’s what the red carpet is for, and that’s why there are all of those photographers.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her seeing this kind of movie. It’s really not a big deal. If it were a sex scene like the ones in “Mr. Brooks”, “American Psycho”, or “Lucky Number Slevin”, then it wouldn’t be age appropriate. I doubt the sex scene in this movie is anywhere near those scenes.

I also have to add that while she might be walking the red carpet alone, there is most likely someone waiting for her on the other side. I doubt her parents would let her go alone.

  45. Ms. Scribbles says:

Did she whip her hair at Edward until he flew across the Pacific like the frail leaf he is? All right, then.

  46. the original bellaluna says:

It’s not just the scary pregnancy; there’s a LOT of violence in these books. Hello? VAMPIRES!

But as her parents Psy-CO$, they probably see nothing wrong with it.

I don’t care for the extremely off-putting ego of either of the Pinkett-Smith children, frankly.

  47. anonymoose says:

The woman’s face in the top right of the 1st photos says what i’m thinking!

And why is this kid making “W” hand signs? Is it a letter she just learned in school?

This kid is homely and precocious, not cute. That goes for the behavior as well as the exterior.

    @Beth and @Micah: word.

  48. Leticia says:

@Courtney, I caught your Joanne Woodward (Sybil) reference! Gosh, you are good. You keep me on my toes, always looking at the comments for you to appear and reference Newman and Woodward. By the way, wasn’t Newman the most gorgeous man ever?

  49. Princessa says:

    Avatar (see the resemblance?)

  50. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

@Courtney strikes again with 6 degrees of Joanna Woodward! LOL

  51. Green_Eyes says:

    @ Leticia…:), I agree about Newman…lol doesn’t hurt my hubby is a 6’2 dead ringer for him.

  52. texasmom says:

original bellaluna, I guess I kind of discount the violence with vampires because they’re, you know, imaginary. But you’re right!

I thought the pregnancy in the books very scary-seeming to girls going through puberty. I’ve kind of got it stuck in my head because one of my daughter’s best buddies has a new baby brother and the girls are all sort of horrified/intrigued about childbirth. And here they are all starting their own periods. I think they are all ambivalent enough about their fertility without a big story with a monster-baby almost killing her mother in the womb!

  53. Psyren says:

People must just need something to get upset and offended about. The movie is PG 13, is she really going to reach some magical level of maturity in just two years that she isn’t at now? What do you think will happen? That she’s going to be mentally scarred somehow by Twilight of all things? I saw The Exorcist when I was about 13 and Friday the 13th when I was about that age too so meh to the whole thing.

  54. phlyfiremama says:

Yo, what up with the Xenu gang signs?

  55. Memphis says:

The Twilight movies are for the most part tame and I doubt much thrusting is going on with a PG13 rating.
I allow my children a lot of freedom in their decision making and would have no problem if my 11yr old wanted to see it.

  56. Ramie says:

I think it’s inappropriate for ANYONE to see Twilight movies. Terrible waste of film, IMO.

  57. Snowpea says:

That poor child…She looks like she walks around saying things like ‘Yo, wassup dawg?’ and “Fo shizzle’, like she’s a homie instead of a Beverly Hills brat.

I have an 11 year old boy and he’s a pretty cool kid. He reads ALOT, he rides his bike, hangs out at the skate park and walks the dog in the park.

There’s NO WAY he’d be caught dead making those poses and hand things that Willow’s doing.

She looks like she’s trying WAY TOO HARD.

  58. Deb says:

I doubt the pregnancy in this movie is THAT scary. I bet this pregnancy has nothing on the pregnancy and baby in Eraserhead. Now THAT’S scary!

  59. Miranda says:

She and her brother irk me too. And what’s up with their parents pushing these two at us. I remember one time when her mother was gushing on a talk show about them. She actually forgot for a second that no one but her and her husband feel unconditional love for these two and that the rest of us don’t. It’s okay to brag a bit about your kids, but to gushhhhhhhh like they walk on water is comical. When I have gone over the top about my kids, it’s only been to their father or my immediate family. I wouldn’t dream of bragging and bragging about my kids to people who don’t know them or love them. It’s common sense.

  60. Jaye E says:

Oh dear GOD! She’s a cute little girl mugging for the cameras. And the “gang signs”? Are you KIDDING ME??? It’s her making a ‘W’…you know? Like the one at the beginning of her NAME!

  61. misscocochanel says:

Oh give the girl a break you opinionated idiots ! She is only 11 and obviously has alot to learn. She is very confident and yes, maybe a little cocky. But considering her age, that can be forgiven. As for her being a the premiere, I haven’t seen it yet so I’ll soon find out how risque is it. Looking forward to seeing Pattison in his undies !

  62. JT says:

Her parents are not trying to turn her into anything. It was clear from the very beginning that this was something they wanted. They are both widely talented and very enthusiastic about what they’re doing. You can’t force people to be like that. It’s quite clear they are doing something they both love and want to do. Will and Jade are not pushy stage parents or those kids would have been everywhere as soon as they were out of the womb.

  63. Az says:

Do all his kids have Will Smith’s ears? Most unfortunate.

  64. Jen says:

UGH!!! All I can say is that she projects an image of having A LOT of self-confidence.

  65. the original bellaluna says:

Jaye E – Yes, that is not the “WestSIDE” gang sign (I know what it looks like, and how to do it, and no, I will not describe it here). That’s a “W” as in her first name. But girlfriend needs to be careful, because just outside of her ‘hood, there’s lots of gangs and lots of signs. That is NOT a threat, it’s a fact of life.

texasmom – OK, I can see where you’re coming from. And I have NEVER seen The Exorcist (or the re-make) because just hearing about it scared the pea-soup outta me!

It also took me until my 30’s to even watch the first (or ANY) Alien movie and The Shining, as I saw clips from both on some awards show when I was like 8 or 9, and nightmares for weeks. (I like suspense, but not gore. I am, however, extremely into American Horror Story! Go figure, right?)

  66. rkintn says:

Cute kid. As the mom of an 11 yo daughter, it would appear Willow’s acting about her age….hamming it up and acting goofy in front of the camera. As for her seeing “Breaking Dawn”, that is not for me to judge. I am going to assume that her and her parents have a close enough relationship that they are capable of deciding what is best for her and what isn’t. I have a hard enough time deciding what is best for my own kids than to worry about the Smith family dynamics. It might help to remember that while they are celebrities, they are also human and are quite capable of making craptastic child raising decisions like the rest of us. I, for one, am unable to cast the first stone at them.

  67. Andria says:

I have an 8 year old and I’ll take her to see Breaking Dawn if she wants to go. We watched Grease this year and I had forgotten how sexual it is – I have a hard time believing anything in Breaking Dawn will touch the raunchiness in Grease. Edward refuses to deflower Bella until marriage; Grease is full of pelvic thrusts, rowdy sexual innuendo, and supposed teen pregnancy.
“We’ll get some purple French tail lights and thirty-inch fins, oh yeah
A palomino dashboard and duel muffler twins, oh yeah
With new pistons, plugs, and shocks, I can get off my rocks
You know that I ain’t braggin’, she’s a real pussy wagon – greased lightnin'”

Yeah. Let’s see the purity ball vampires beat THAT.

  68. anonymoose says:

Did I say “precocious”? Well, so are many 11 yr olds; this one is no exception. And by that, I mean Willow is not exceptional, as in what is she doing on the red carpet? She’s just the spawn of 2 egomaniacal parents. Whatevs. Once this kid does something worthy of our attention, then she can pose in the spotlight. Til then, she should be neither seen nor heard. (That goes for everyone on the red carpet, and for anyone named Kardashian…or Lohan or SnookiWowwSituationRealhousewife or any of these “reality tv celebrity” posers.)

Also, at first glance at the thumbnail grid to this story, I thought this was some boy (not that there is anything wrong with androgyny.)

  69. heathnic says:

I remember seeing Titanic when it came out and I was only 8! Now that I think about it it seems young but around that age the most a love scene will elicit is giggles or just apathy. It’s harmless.

  70. Callumna says:

We should have known Will’s extreme self confidence added to Jada’s self confidence could end in nothing less.

  71. poopie says:

if you have read this book you would know it’s not something an 11 yr old should see, BUT : because she is a spoiled rich kid whose parents are rich and all knowing she is ABOVE the rest of us and can handle issues better than the ‘others’. and those boots: i think of candy wrappers. sorry.

  72. Jackie says:

I see Jada’s children pushed into the limelight but never see Will’s first son. Do you think its another Yoko Ono-Julian Lennon thing?

  73. Marianne says:

I saw the Halloween series when I was 8.

    I think Willow will survive.

  74. sosuzy says:

All I see is ears… without her famous lineage..she would be nowhere… I find it interesting how many celebrities shield their children from the limelight so they can have a “normal” childhood. If the child decides to go into the “family” business, they can do it when they get a bit older, when their psyche is more well developed. I keep wondering what Will and Jada are thinking… unlike the Lohans… the Smith’s do not need to exploit their child for money….

  75. haylee says:

look idk but i wont to go watch it so bad my freids are going to watch it too see if it too bad for me and i 22 omg is it gonna be that fucking bad realy

  76. Raeshel says:

I can see why everyone is commenting on whether she should be a part of the publicity treadmill, but all child actors and singers are. You can argue that’s what makes them messed up as an adult, but if you have a career, you have to keep yourself visible to the public. And if that means we should have no child celebs, then that’s another thread/argument. As far as whether she is there by herself or not, why do we assume that she is? I’m sure someone is there with her, whether part of her management or maybe even her parents somewhere close. Who knows if she saw the movie or not…
