Rooney Mara tries to backpedal on “awful, stupid” Law & Order comments

Last week, one of our biggest stories was about Rooney Mara’s Allure cover profile, in which Rooney talked smack about her early roles. She had unkind words for her first professional acting job in a 2006 episode of Law & Order: SVU. Her exact words:

“It was so awful. So stupid. People are obsessed with that show. I don’t get it. Me and my boyfriend—although I don’t look old enough to have a boyfriend—went and beat up these fat people, and at the end of the show you find out that I used to be obese and I hate fat people. It’s ridiculous. Who would ever do that? Who would beat someone up because they’re fat? And as retribution, they sodomized her. I mean, I’ve been sodomized since the beginning of my career. I should have known then it would come full circle.”

[Allure via previous Celebitchy story]

It struck me at the time that I remembered Rooney mentioning something disparaging about SVU in another interview, but I didn’t think to look it up. Turns out, she also had a little SVU snipe in her Vogue interview as well, and this was months ago:

At nineteen, she began auditioning on the side. One of her first roles was on Law & Order: SVU, playing a girl who “hates fat people, and you find out in the end she used to be obese herself. It’s just too embarrassing.” After graduation, she moved to L.A., but pre-Fincher, her biggest role was in the disappointing 2010 reboot of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Mara minces no words about the experience. “I hated it,” she says. “It left me thinking, If this is what is available to me, then I don’t necessarily want to be an actress. And then I got the script for The Social Network.”

[From Vogue]

As I’ve said before: Portrait of the Artist as a Smug Bitch. Anyway, someone must have told her to tone it down lest she get a reputation as The Next Gwyneth Paltrow. So Rooney tried to eat sh-t in a Huffington Post interview:

HuffPo: You’ve said — or at least I read — that you didn’t necessarily love your time during that “SVU” episode and some other shoots. So what was it about working with David Fincher on “Social Network” and now “Dragon Tattoo” that rekindled your passion?
Mara:
First of all, the “SVU” thing — that’s just not true. That was my first job. It couldn’t have been more exciting for me. It’s an experience I hold very dear to my heart. People take things out of context, and that’s just not the case. I was more nervous doing that job than I was doing this job …

“Nightmare on Elm Street” [Mara starred in the 2010 remake of the horror film] was a really hard movie to make, and I didn’t love the experience, but I would never take it back because I feel like I learned something from it and it brought me to my next job. I feel like every job I’ve ever had has led me to the next, and whether you like something or not, you always learn from it, and I think sometimes it’s good to do those jobs that weren’t necessarily easy to make, and you learn the most about yourself from those.

HuffPo: I immediately felt bad asking that question, because at this point, the story isn’t so much whether you liked those shoots, but what the press and the Internet harps on.
Mara:
It’s really silly. People, especially with young girls, they feel the need to make them out to be a certain way, and I feel so grateful for any job I’ve ever gotten. I feel grateful for the student jobs I did, I feel grateful for being an extra in some of the things my sister did. I feel like every single job that I’ve done has shaped who I am and has led me to where I am now.
It’s hard to have to talk about yourself all the time and things are out of context, and whatever that quote was, I don’t know, but it’s certainly not what I meant. If anything, I didn’t mean that the storyline was ridiculous; I meant that humanity is ridiculous. I know that ‘Law & Order’ makes their episodes out of real things that are happening in the city, so to me, by “ridiculous” I meant that humanity is ridiculous. People are awful to one another; and to me, I find it ridiculous.

[From The Huffington Post]

“People take things out of context…” and “whatever that quote was, I don’t know, but it’s certainly not what I meant. If anything, I didn’t mean that the storyline was ridiculous; I meant that humanity is ridiculous…” Really? Is that really what she was bitching about in TWO interviews, months apart, both times disparaging her early jobs? Why is it always “blame someone else for taking your words at face value”? Why can’t it be “I’m sorry I said that. That was a dick thing to say. I love being a working actress, and I shouldn’t have bitched about my early jobs”?

I must be so crazy that all of a sudden people are quoting every word. Gossip site talking about your clothes, hair whatever.

Give her a break. This is all new. I think she is cute and can’t wait to see the film TOMORROW!!!!

    • Cam says:

OMG! you’re gonna love it. it’s so great and heartbreaking and fucking KICK-ASS! all at the same time. I was one of the lucky few who got to see the screener for free and i’m going again tomorrow and don’t mind that i have to pay full price cause i just loved it. Rooney Mara was specially great in it.

      • buckley says:

I don’t know, to me her smugness is kinda hot. I think she has the talent to back it up.
        Unlike Goop.
I already have my tickets for Thursday’s show.

    • vic says:

Agreed. Young star says stupid things. Big deal. And maybe she did have a crappy experience with Law and Order. So what. Can’t wait to see this movie!

      • Jag says:

She didn’t just complain about Law & Order, she complained about Nightmare on Elm Street, too. She went so far as to say that she almost stopped being an actress because she was given those two jobs. That makes her a Goop 2.0.

      • holly hobby says:

She also equated those crappy roles like her career getting sodomized (Allure Article). Sorry but ask people who actually had that horrible experience if making crappy movies are the same as getting sodomized. I doubt they will say yes.

    • Tiffany says:

I agree, it kind of seems like some bloggers, like Lainey, were waiting to pounce on her. SVU is a poorly written show, I dont’ think she is a bad person for stating the obvious.

    • RocketMerry says:

I agree. At least she IS a good actress. With time she’ll learn how to not talk shit in public, EVER.

  2. Pia says:

Is she wearing foundation all over her back in that first pic? It’s the same color as her face, while her neck and shoulders are different!

    • Erinn says:

I noticed her back was really pale… but I didn’t notice the shoulder and neck! Good eyes! You’d think they’d have either not done the back and face so pale, or at least followed up on her neck/shoulders when it’s a different color.

    • JenD says:

Her arms have lace sleeves on them. Hence the lighter arms/shoulders.

      • Hakura says:

@JenD“Her arms have lace sleeves on them. Hence the lighter arms/shoulders.

But in this case, the reference to her ‘colorations’ not matching are comparing only her face & back not matching her neck (most noticably the back of her neck). None of those parts have lace over them. This shows that she’s either a.) wearing her makeup lighter than her actual skin color for an effect or b.) to make it look closer to the skin-tone she had while filming.

    • Esmom says:

      That’s what I thought too.

    • Violet says:

I think you’re right. It looks like her back is covered in moles and someone tried to cover those up.

If she’s self-conscious about the moles, she’d be better off avoiding backless outfits because the foundation doesn’t really help at all.

Time will tell whether Rooney has enough friends and talent (I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in anything, so I can’t judge) to overcome putting her foot in her mouth like this.

Incidentally, her interviews make her sound like a pretentious c*nt and her backpedalling skills suck.

      • Hakura says:

@VioletI think you’re right. It looks like her back is covered in moles and someone tried to cover those up. If she’s self-conscious about the moles, she’d be better off avoiding the backless outfits because the foundation doesn’t really help at all.

Either she is self conscious about them… Or far more likely, whomever was in charge of dressing her up was displeased with how they looked in this dress, or a makeup artist was trying to hide them for the sake of continuing the ‘smooth flawless’ effect of her face.

It’s not easy, but moles *can* be hidden with makeup very well. But for me, I always have to mix different hues of foundation with lighter colors/thicknesses of concealer, mixing little at a time until you get the right result. (Like one would mix paint colors on a palette). But obviously, there’s no way I could do any of that if the problem was my back. Maybe it would’ve been too time consuming for her team?

Incidentally, her interviews make her sound like a pretentious c*nt and her backpeddling skills suck.

        Word.

    • Lili says:

Yes, you’re right I think. I noticed right away that it looks like she has put makeup on her back. The color of her skin and moles just doesn’t look natural..So cover your back if you have to put makeup on it!

  3. Lex says:

she’s so stupid. She can’t even step up and take the consequences for talking shit about an awesome show.

    • Carolyn says:

Hehe I laugh when celebs shoot their mouths off in interviews and then the PR team for whatever they are currently promoting freak out and make them retract it. Not buying it. It’s also funny when some people diss earlier roles once they’ve got a better gig. How many wannabee actors would kill to get a bit part on Law & Order? She can always go back to whatever she was doing before acting if she doesn’t like it.

    • Tiffany says:

You really think SVU is an awesome show?

  4. Caroline says:

I am really irritated by this girl already. What is it about her eyes that look either completely vapid and creepy? Especially that last photo.

  5. Obvious says:

She looks kinda pretty with long hair and those bangs are atrocious. I love her sister Kate Mara, Kate also seems to have a brain in her head and doesn’t (to my knowledge) bash projects she’s worked on and then recant later.

Mara stick to your guns. Either don’t say anything, or if you do ride it out and own it.

    • Bodhi says:

I didn’t even think about the fact that they have the same last name! I think Kate is much prettier, even though she seems to have perma-bitchface, at least in American Horror Story

  6. Emily says:

Bitch you are NOT Lisbeth Salander, you are just playing her. So quit acting like you are above it all. It drives me crazy that all of a sudden she’s just ‘too cool’. I love Daniel Craig but I’m not seeing these movies. I don’t want to ruin versions in my head I have from the books.

    • Happy21 says:

Yup! Same here. No, no, no! Movies are almost never, ever as good as the books so I’m not taking my chances.

    • hatsumomo says:

She IS trying to be like Lisbeth! I notice it after an actress does promo for a part, they’ll start harping on and on about how they are JUST LIKE the character and how easy it was. I remember when Anna Paquin was doing promos for True blood and she was making herself out to be this bad-ass-in-love but still sweet and soft like Sookie; I kept thinking, bitch please.

    • London says:

Me too!! I love the Lisbeth Salander in the books, I don’t want this girl to ruin her for me, this is why I am going to avoid this film at all costs

    • Carolyn says:

You’re right. This would be a PR ploy…. Lisbeth is edgy and doesn’t play by the rules…gotta make this actress seem like her too. It’s movie PR 101. Except when it goes astray. Epic fail.

    • Kimble says:

Same here – I have read the books and watched the original subtitled films – I don’t want to see this because:

      a) I don’t like Daniel Craig as an actor
      b) I don’t think they’ll be as true as the original films!

Maybe I’ll watch it on DVD and bitch and moan at home …

      • London says:

I thought the first of the Swedish films was good, but the other two were just meh, but I can tolerate Noomi Rapace more than this woman.

      • Conor says:

First of all, they don’t need to be true to the Swedish films, only the novel; second, they are very true to the novel and miles ahead in terms of production; finally, Rooney Mara is nothing special. She does Lisbeth justice, but nothing any other actress couldn’t have done. This girl comes from an uber rich family and has never had to work a day in her life, which is why she has absolutely no gratitude for the roles that got her where she is. Anyone can act, and anyone can get good at it. All it is is lying. The ancient Greeks and Romans knew it, which is why actors were one step above slaves, hookers and pimps. I don’t understand today’s obsession with actors and celebrities, all they are are average people who got lucky, and some of them are pretty attractive, that’s it. There are millions of other people just like them, everywhere, who can do what they do, and better, and better looking, just not as lucky.

Someone tell Rooney to go back to NYC, collect her trust fund, and go away.

    • Hakura says:

@Emily“…I love Daniel Craig but I’m not seeing these movies. I don’t want to ruin versions in my head I have from the books.

This is exactly how I always feel when I’ve read the book first. Likewise if I see the movie first (& enjoy it), I don’t want to read the book then, knowing that it will always be so much better than the movie, causing me to pick apart the movie by comparison.

Examples: Harry Potter movies (saw 1st & 2nd, decided they’d never come close to reaching my expectations). Then the ‘Howl’s Moving Castle‘ book by Diana Wynne Jones. I saw the movie first, & loved it… Then I was warned by friends who’ve read the book that it infinitely surpasses the movie. Don’t want to lose my love for the movies I see first.

  7. Lizzie says:

Let me work this out on the page:

On the one hand, this is an industry with, what?, 90% unemployment? Show some gratitude.

On the other hand, of COURSE the plot of SVU was ridiculous. Why is this even in question? I’m not a fan of the show, but I assumed the soapy elements were, y’know, part of the appeal.

Which brings on a third point: is it really news that SVU is ridiculous? Why does she have to kvetch about it? Twice?

That’s a bit like Aniston whining that that leprechaun film was silly. Pay your dues, and stop acting like only the “high art” stuff really matters. Even Scorcese honed his craft on low budget, B-list “thrillers”.

    • Alix says:

What you said! Plus, her backpedaling is pathetic; seriously, she was talking about “humanity”? Bish, plz.

  8. marie says:

She looks like Dr. Spock’s daughter. Weird.

  9. hatsumomo says:

Wow, chick wears the same amount of make up as a Kardashian. Not a good feature girl, lighten it up. And in the white dress, she does have a ton of make up on her back and yet you can still see every mole…why? Does she have a super uneven complexion? I’ve tried to join the over-kill-on-the-foundation bandwagon and couldnt take it. I felt as though my face was suffocating under a layer of Vaseline. How are these women doing it?!!?

And though she may be right on the money about SVU, chick it was your job. Im sure it still making its way on her resume when she reads for a script because we all know she isnt a star enough to just get parts handed to her.

  10. Bring it on! says:

Can’t wait for this awful and stupid bish to get on Twitter so I can drag her ass!

  11. Maya says:

Give her a break; she’s still learning how to deal with the press and how to speak in interviews and all that. She seems like a nice enough person, if a bit reserved, and I keep reading really positive things about her peformance as Lisbeth. She’s a talented young actress who hasn’t yet had a lesson in PR. Big deal.

    • Flan says:

I’ve never had a course in PR, but I, and most people here, can understand it’s not a good idea to bad-mouth old jobs when you get famous. Common sense and all.

When I saw the first promo pics for this movie a couple of months ago, I was disgusted. The theme is very feminist, but the pics were all about showing her off as a sex-object. Glad I watched the Swedish version.

  12. Anon73 says:

re: that 1st pic of her where you can see her back, can you see that nasty sh*z on it ?? all those little moles and seb k growths. so unattractive. fyi Mara, there is something called a dermatologist that can scrap those things off….

  13. Zoey says:

What about the comment “people are obsessed with that show, I don’t get it.” She couldn’t come up with some bs to cover that up?
Yes, it must be hard to have everything you say put out there for the world to critique….but this is the career she chose….so she should try not to sound like such an ass.

  14. Jover says:

Interesting people aren’t commenting on her late nite talk show appearances – she was dull and uninteresting on letterman a little better on Jimmy Fallon, but really given her background, suprisingly little charisma – I just don’t think she’s going to connect with a lot of the public.

  15. Victoria says:

Let’s queue Sunshine Andersons’. “I’ve Heard It All Before.”

Bitch please. You know what you said and the context interpreted was exactly how you meant for it to be interpreted.

Dragon Tattoo is a good book but like most things that become a cult it’s highly overrated, though I did love the Swedish version. And the last book was not even all that.

  16. T.C. says:

“I didn’t mean that the storyline was ridiculous; I meant that humanity is ridiculous. I know that ‘Law & Order’ makes their episodes out of real things that are happening in the city, so to me, by “ridiculous” I meant that humanity is ridiculous. People are awful to one another; and to me, I find it ridiculous.” No girlfriend you DID say the story was ridiculous and you don’t get why people are into SUV. Then your publicist reminded you that yes non-rich fat girls DO get beat up and then you had to back track. Just like you said you hated the Nightmare on Elmstreet job now you have to backtrack and say “it was too hard” not that it was a bad movie. Bitch please, we aren’t dumb and you are a 26 years old WOMAN not a “young girl”. It’s sad that you need your PR people to tell you not to sound ungrateful for your early jobs and blaming the media for repeating YOUR word? HA!

  17. Gigi says:

Lainey quoted it, I’ll repeat it: this girl tried to save the SVU comment by saying that “humanity is ridiculous.” There ain’t no fix for that. She and James Franco are a match made in tortured artist heaven.

    • Samantha says:

Oh my God! That would be the best celebrity hookup ever. Can you imagine the conversations the two of them would have?

  18. Esmom says:

It does sound like a lot of backtracking, but I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt because she is such a novice at the PR game.

Is it just me or is she such a chameleon? Except when she has the dark hair/hipster bangs, she could blend in just about anywhere and I don’t think I’d recognize her.

  19. Incredulous says:

It strikes me that this is one of those things where, if you know her, you’d know exactly what she meant by what she said. Since we don’t, she gets a quick and dirty education in Talking In Public: Hollywood Edition.

Storm in a teacup, real news is not sexy, all that.

  20. T.C. says:

P.S. I’m not saying that some episodes of SUV aren’t stupid but when you are a public figure you don’t go around bad-mouthing other jobs. Besides ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ is one big old SUV episode. So if you are going to make fun of SUV fans, you should be making fun of Dragon Tat fans too. I mean Nazi sadistic rapist serial killings can sound pretty out there too. Just sayin’

  21. Turd Fergussen says:

If you’re going to wear a backless dress, little Miss Ingenue, it is suggested you cure your back acne (bacne, if you will) first. *shudders*

  22. crys737 says:

wasnt it Clooney who said “…nobody wants to hear you complain” about actors who complained about their jobs? yeah, that came to mind after I read that.

  23. Yasmine says:

One of my favourite lines yet by Kaiser: “As I’ve said before: Portrait of the Artist as a Smug Bitch.” Amazing.

  24. janie says:

She looks SO much prettier in the second picture–it took me a minute to realize it was the same girl. I never got the appeal of Law and Order, so I actually didn’t mind her first comments (although she does sound super whiny). What makes me dislike her is that she tries to backtrack when her comments were very straightforward…she’s obviously full of shit.

  25. Rook says:

haha. the social network. That’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It’s not just a bad movie. That’s too simple. It’s a non-story. It has to be the biggest most useless waste of film I’ve ever heard of. Truly. Completely. A waste of film.

  26. Iggles says:

I know it’s shallow but I can’t help saying… Is it just me or does she look way better without eyebrows??!

  27. lucy2 says:

She may be new to this, but still…anyone should know better. Bitch about it to friends and family all you want, but don’t say stuff like that during an interview.
Not the end of the world, but an easily avoidable mistake.

  28. Bria says:

Bitch, please. In a few years she’ll be begging for a part on SVU as one of those “abused fat people”.

  29. SCREEEE says:

Yeah, screw this thing of ‘taken out of context’ when it clearly wasn’t. That ruins it for those celebrities who really DO get taken out of context, which happens CONSTANTLY in tabloids, but not really in features in respectable magazines.

This girl does NOT know how to play – I already dislike her without having seen ANY of her work. She should remember that – nobody knows who you are, honey!

  30. theaPie says:

    Pretty girl. Big stupid mouth.

  31. normades says:

I hate her name, Rooney Mara. I always want to say Mara Rooney. Her real first name is Patricia. Do you think she goes by Patsy?

  32. Tiffany says:

I think it is seriously messed up that SVU is complete and utter CRAP…and yet she gets all this hate for simply stating the truth. The writing is terrible!

  33. NM9005 says:

Soooo ok, I don’t know this Law and Order that well but understand it’s a popular show. This chick gets work when she’s a struggling actor and she choose L&O because she needs to work and climb her way up. What better way to gain some experience and visibility? It’s not degrading. It’s a good choice and you got to start somewhere. Some people get far less good jobs than that! If she saw the script and thought it was stupid and awful, she could of easily passed and waited until something better gets along. But I guess she wasn’t in a position where she could do that…no wait until you play in the big films and be in a position where you think it’s ok to rag on your past choices. All of a sudden, L&O is beneath her? 😀 Delusional chick.
Girl, please you are not an A-lister! Just a lucky girl who was able to work with a very good director! If she’s already that smug and ignorant in interviews, I’m scared of what’s going to come when she really becomes famous. She should just be grateful for all the opportunities that life gives her. Oh and I see she’s 26, not exactly a baby anymore that needs to be held by the hand everytime she opens her mouth. If she can shit on something, she should be able to take shit too. That’s what you get when you grow up. Don’t hide behind HUMANITY (seriously!!!???) and take responsibility for your stupidity.

  34. Callumna says:

Her backpedaling is even worse. She’s lucky she’s not, how can I put this, pretty or sexy.

If she were pretty, it’d all be over like Megan Fox or Katherine Heigl. Because she is an overpampered, dumb actress. Undernourishment ate her brain.

People will assume this zombie has more talent than she does because a good director did some heavy lifting and she wasn’t cast to appeal to teen sex organs.

She’s more of an old white man fetish. And eager to please ’em at that. “I did everything my director wanted to a fault.” Barf. Her life is a bad SVU plot. Old man’s starving, zombie eyed fetish.

  35. LBeees says:

Heard her on NPR the other night being interviewed about Dragon Tattoo, and for everyone wondering… yes she sounds exactly as douchy and snobby live as in the transcripts. She talks like she’s the second coming.
I don’t know, I found her pretentious and annoying. It’s like, lighten up. This isn’t Schindler’s List okay? It’s a thriller movie!

Check out her interview for yourself: http://www.npr.org/2011/12/14/143727517/rooney-mara-discusses-dragon-tattoo

    • Bodhi says:

I heard that interview too & she was pretty awful

    • Cam says:

I don’t understand what part of that interview paints her as “douchy” or “snobby.” To me she came off pretty humble and appreciative of being part of this big film.

By now i think people are just projecting smugness into every little thing she says. Just seems a little too easy to jump on the Mara-hating bandwagon nowadays. Give the girl a break. She really is pretty damn great in the film.

      • Bodhi says:

And I thought she sounded like a snot & that was before I read anything remotely negative. I’m still looking forward to the film & I have been since it was announced

  36. Bodhi says:

I saw her on the Today show yesterday (?) & she was pretty awful in person, too. Maybe she hasn’t figured it all out yet, but she needs to hurry up & do so. She is gonna be in the spotlight for YEARS with this series.

Kinda reminds me of Kristen Stewart…

  37. Violet's Roses says:

Well, the good news is that Johnny Depp and she would have a lot to talk about if they ever got together.

Meh. She’s young. She’ll learn not to bite the hand that feeds. Maybe she needs to go and have a little chat with Meagan Fox to get an idea of what happens to those who don’t tow the line.

  38. Feebee says:

I’m not going to give her a break for being a ‘newbie’ to all this. It’s bad form to bad mouth any show like she did L&O SVU but yeah the way she’s trying to retract is making it worse.

Her natural look is nothing to look at. She looks much better with the starker Lisbeth look (sans bangs). If this film is successful I hope it doesn’t make her totally insufferable.

  39. LeaR says:

Poor girl. Don’t worry – thanks to this debacle, she has probably learned the lesson that most successful actors know:

    1) Lie, lie, lie. Just because you’re asked a question does not mean you should be truthful in answering it.

2)Do not say what you really think about any person, place, or thing if it’s not 100% complimentary (you don’t want to take the chance that you might offend even 1 person out there!)

3)Express yourself in bland, careful, PR-approved soundbites.

4)Be as beige & unopinionated as possible. If you are going to be opinionated, make sure it’s something like “I’m against cancer”.

    5) The above rules apply twice as much if you’re a female celebrity – people are more forgiving of loud-mouthed men (especially women, so long as those loud-mouthed male celebrities are hot)

Combine that with tasteful dresses on the red carpet & you too will start getting comments on sites like this that read, “OMG love her – what a class act!”

  40. Pat says:

    Ungrateful Bitch!! Enough said.

  41. whatevs says:

that story is not at all unbelievable unfortunately, the one about former fattie bullying fat kids. this bish looks and talks like a hipster douche. and when you have that many spots on your back you should cover it up instead of revealing. not a good look. pretentious smug bitch. who exactly called you judi dench again?

  42. JaneWonderfalls says:

I don’t know about this chic, but I can’t jump on the bandwagon and despise her yet. I will give her more interviews and if she continues to sound like a smug ungrateful bitch, than I will make a full judgement about her. But to me anyway she is one of those actresses that are forgettable. She’s not her sister and it shows…only time will tell if she can win favor with the public. You should never bash the people you work with in Hollywood, you never know when you will meet those same people again and you will need them to throw you a bone. She may end up being more like a Katherine Heigl who takes roles than bitch about them down the road and continues to do shytty movies not worth seeing.

She’s been around for 5 minutes and I am sick of her already. Next…

  44. Imaopa says:

She’s from mega-money, so she doesn’t have to worry too much about appearing ungrateful. She’s never going to starve, that’s for sure.

  45. valleymiss says:

Mara sounds like an ungrateful b*tch. Do you know how many actresses would kill to be on Law and Order or in a Nightmare on Elm Street remake? “Embarassing”? “Awful”? No…embarassing and awful would be having to do porn to make ends meet as an actress, or never getting cast in ANY tv or films at all, porn or otherwise. She is just so holier than thou.

I agree with whoever wrote this post. Just say, “Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.” Be honest and don’t blame other people.

  47. kazoo says:

Her sister is on American Horror Story. She’s a lot prettier and a better actress. Kate>>>Rooney.

    • NotaBitterBetty says:

THIS! I much prefer Kate, I find her a warmer, sexier personality than Rooney. Think she’s a better actress too.

  48. GetTheeBehindMe says:

she should back peddle it is too early in her career to be burning bridges or alienating anybody…re my distaste for her stoogey-do, she does look much better in almost any other style. also she is young, so she gets some screw-up room. if she is really as talented as everyone is saying, she can be as big an a-hole as she wants, she just needs to wait until the consensus is in.

  49. normades says:

Can we call her Goopney Mara?

  50. elaine says:

    Ugly bloodless-looking thing isn’t she?

  51. Sara says:

I hate her bangs trauma and deer-in-the-headlights look in recent photos. I don’t even remember her in The Social Network OR in Nightmare on Elm Street… sooooo I can’t really say much about her acting besides she is not memorable. Usually actresses that are really great leave an impression, like Rose Byrne, whoes name I can never remember but whose face I never forget.

  52. luls says:

Whats the big deal about her bitching? I bitch about my first 2 jobs until this day. They really were AWFUL. She has the full right to say whatever she wants about her early experiences in Hollywood. I imagine most actors (successful or not), went through similar crap at the start of their careers. And i don’t begrudge them for making a point of it.

  53. Shanunya says:

Ugh. I hope she learns to speak with at least some modicum of tact in the future.

  54. marie says:

She looks like a stuck up bitch. No wait, she looks like Dr. Spocks daughter.

  55. lizbeth says:

The Law and Order franchise is ridiculous. It is total formula, there is far too much in it, and most of the acting is over-the-top awful or just plain awful (I cannot look at Ice-T at all) to match the melodramatic plot lines. Mainly it is unreal as social criticism and I think Mara probably did attack the reality of the show. According to the shows, almost all crime is by white upper-class people, often in prep schools, and nothing much is going on with anyone else. The liberal premise of the show, sort of an anti-Dirty Harry, is completely unreal and watching any of this much is to get hugely annoyed. Any big city show that somehow has no black or Hispanic crime to speak of and shows almost all crime is from prep schools is beyond stupid. I think Mara meant this, that fat people sodomizing thin people is just not one of the biggies we have to worry about.
