Jean Dujardin at the Berlin premiere of ‘The Artist’: would you hit it?

I’m about to say something that once said, you will never be able to unsee. It’s something that has been bugging me for months, ever since Jean Dujardin started getting crazy-awesome reviews for The Artist, and since Jean has been considered a shoo-in for a Best Actor Oscar nomination. Here is what cannot be unseen: Jean Dujardin has the same face as Chris Evans. He and Chris Evans could be brothers. Seriously. Think about it.

Anyway, these are photos of Jean Dujardin (and Archie the Dog) from the Berlin premiere of The Artist. I’m sort of doing this post to gauge the interest in Jean and this film, which I haven’t seen yet, but I intend to. It’s a silent film, set during the era of silent films, and as I said, Jean Dujardin is pretty much guaranteed a Best Actor Oscar nomination, which will be his first. Jean is French, obviously. He’s 39 years old and a married father of two. He’s famous in France, but The Artist is his big breakthrough in Hollywood, and he’s going to be all over the place this awards season.

So, are you interested in him? Do you want to know more about him? Would you like it if we continued to cover Jean and The Artist? And, most importantly, would you hit it? I would hit it (in theory). But then again, I’m a (theoretical) slut. I do like his face, though. I find Chris Evans attractive too, which helps. I like how animated Jean is, and he seems very open and accessible. Plus, when he wears a suit, he’s got that old-school Hollywood glamour. Very nice.

Here’s the trailer for The Artist:

When I was watching The Artist I really thought there was no way in hell I would hit it. But after seeing these pics I may reconsider…hmmmm..that dog was so adorable in the movie.

  2. kiko says:

this guy is funny, hot and French.what I’m trying to say is hell yeah i would hit him!

  3. Astrid says:

    Keep Jean coming.

  4. carrie says:

i live in France:Dujardin is like a french Clooney
i saw the movie and it’s not my cup of tea but it’s ambitious with many ideas, a tribute of silent cinema,a collection of scenes(more than a movie) and above all it’s cute(my main trouble:if you see the movie, you will understand why i use “cute” as pegorative)

    • Bubulle says:

I’m french and can’t see how Dujardin could be a french George Clooney.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Right. I said something similar after watching it. I liked it and it was well-done but there is a certain level of hokiness you have to be willing to stomach.

    • scotchy says:

i live in france as well, and i can see where the george clooney reference would come from, he has been around for a while, he started in tv, is a great overall actor, a good comic, and also good in dramatic roles. however he is married to a french actress, has a family, therefore the bachelor, playboy bit is off.
I too thought the movie was cute,i don’t think it warrants all of these awards and accolades but it was nice.

    • Cleo says:

Well,I’m french and I totally understand the “french George Clooney” thing for some reasons that scotchy explained and also because,in a certain way, Dujardin reminds me the glamourous movie stars of the 40’s and the 50’s,and it’s something I used to think about Clooney a few years ago.As for the movie itself,I also think it’s cute (sometimes too cute, actually), really well done and really creative but in my opinion it doesn’t deserve all these awards.

      • dahlia says:

Dujardin is a great actor, he did some successful drama movies and he’s very sweet to talk to.But I wouldn’t hit it, he’s more like a dear friend or the perfect neighbour.

  5. islandgirl says:

    In a heartbeat lol

  6. Edith says:

If you wanna know more about him, you should all see the movie OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006). Jean Dujardin is so funny! He is really talented, but that’s about it for me!

  7. Babouleine says:

Yeah, I would hit it, but not with this clean-cut look. I prefer a little more scruffy, i.e. here http://www.pipole.net/jean-dujardin-intarissable-sur-alexandra-lamy/120525/

By the way, the heading means that he can’t stop praising his partner Alexandra, also an actress.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

That picture totally supports my theory that some men shoud ALWAYS have a beard or 5 o’clock shadow. SO much hotter with facial hair..

    • Lindy says:

      Oooh, yes with the scruff!!

I would definitely like to see more of him. I think I am getting so bored with the US celebs, esp. the glut of “reality” show celebs. New blood–and sexy French new blood at that–is welcome.

  8. mln76 says:

I haven’t seen The Artist yet but I like him.

  9. searching4grace says:

He looks more like a cross between Chris Evans and..uh..jennifer annistons boyfriend. LOL Crap. I can’t remember his name. Justin something. I’ll watch the film, buuuuttt….I might be kind of in it for the dog. That’s a cute dog.

  10. LL says:

I love Jean Dujardin since i saw 99F , the movie its in french. And of course he wear suit, Il est français 😉

  11. Frenchy says:

“The Artist” is such a great movie, it’s different from the ones we are used to watch nowadays… Ah and the dog should have gotten a nomination lol

Jean Dujardin is indeed a funnyman in France, he used to have a small TV show alongside his wife Alexandra Lamy, then became even more popular and made great movies like OSS 117 (which is kind of a James Bond parody about a clueless ego-centric French agent). He really doesn’t take himself seriously and I like that about him!

So yes please continue to post more on Jean Dujardin!

  12. Wendy says:

In a second, and multiple times. But then I’ve been a fan for several years already, so this is nothing new. I’m also counting down the days until this weekend, when The Artist opens near me.

OSS 117 – Cairo had me crying with laughter in parts.

  13. Liz says:

I’m Irish, and my first thought when you said “Chris Evans” was this guy:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Evans_(presenter)

It was – to put it mildly – confusing. So could you put the actor’s picture up, just to make it clear to foreign readers who have different reference points?

  14. Stacia says:

    ummm…no…dont find him appealling

  15. Cidee says:

Yes yes yes yes yes yes. That is all.

  16. Maya says:

The Artist was a great movie, and he was brilliant in it. I didn’t realize how hot he was until now. Please feature him more!

  17. Sarah says:

Yes, please keep posting about Jean! I loved him in The Artist and now have a major crush on him.

  18. SyL says:

i’m french too, and Jean Dujardin has always reminded me of … Gene Kelly !
I know it’s a bit of a stretch, but when you look closely…
Anyway he’s well liked in France

  19. Helenny says:

    oh oui!

  20. Rachel says:

He’s French and he looks like Clark Gable, so yes, I would hit it. And please keep us updated, I loved The Artist!

  21. BW says:

I want to see The Artist, but it isn’t playing where I live.

Jean gives off a very Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. vibe which I find very sexy. Then again, I love old silent films.

  22. gail says:

This guy has the Frenchiest facial expressions ever. When I look at these pictures, I can practically hear the Marseillaise wafting overhead.

    • skuddles says:

      Frenchiest…. love it! 😀

    • Moarie says:

So funny. I was looking at his Nous C Nous comedy sketches on youtube (they’re a rather vulgar comedy troupe he started with). Even then he was usually the one ending up with the Frenchy or Eurotrash stereotypes. But he’s so talented he actually pulled off many different characters. I would say he has more comic genius than most comic actors not Jim Carrey, but has more dramatic chops than Carrey.

  23. cecilia says:

I totally agree with the people who say he looks like a cross between Chris Evans and Justin Theroux (which is a not-attractive double-whammy), but my first thought was he looked like Kevin Kline, which makes me think “smart and funny and handsome enough” – so, yeah. I wouldn’t turn my nose up at him, that’s for sure.

  24. Chickie Baby says:

Oh, you really need to see this movie, if for nothing else than the production aspect of it. The costumes, the music, the set design are all fantastic.

I see the Chris Evans connection in these pictures, but in “The Artist” he’s practically channeling the late, great Gene Kelly—the charm, the footwork, and especially the facial expressions. I adored Gene Kelly, and was shocked by how much Jean resembled Mr. Kelly in so many ways. Jean was totally sigh-worthy!

  25. Ash says:

    Sure I’d hit it.

  26. toto says:

he looks more like a softer copy of hugh jackman than chris evans ….

  27. danielle says:

I don’t see the Chris Evans thing. Would I hit it? Not sure. Would I read more posts about him? Sure! Would I let Archie french me? Probably! He’s cute!

  28. ruby says:

I like what Jean has been doing lately. (I really disliked some of his earlier work, but lately he’s been choosing better). The Artist is a great movie, it deserves any awards it gets.

I also really like how his partner is Alexandra Lamy (he did this really funny series with her about stereotypical relationship problems – I loved it).

Long story short – I would love to read more posts about him. That’s a great idea.

  29. skuddles says:

Oui oui! Love the sexy French dudes.

  30. Marion says:

    No more Jean Dujardin but
    MORE JAMES FRANCO ♥♥♥

Seriously, I hate the guy! Since I’ve seen him making his “camel face” I definitely can’t any more…
And if he gets nominated for the Academy Awards, he’ll be all over on TV here…more than I can stand!

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Marion-Are you new to this site? A warning: this is a very anti-Franco (& anti-Gosling) site. They’re both seen as “emo hipster try-hard douchebags”. It’s the prevailing opinion. For the record, I effin’ love Franco (yes I said it) and Gosling (of course) but I’m just advising that if you’re here looking for more Franco, you need to look elsewhere 🙂
      And lol @ “camel face”!

  31. Camille says:

If Chris Evans and Aniston’s latest BF had a baby this guy would be the product of that. Unfortunately I find neither man attractive so understandably I don’t find this actor attractive either.

  32. Raven Sparrow says:

Yes, and he was in a Hot Guy Friday too…I should know I asked for him and Kaiser was kind enough to add him 😉

  33. burbuja says:

Yes I’d hit it, and I’ve seen the camel face…

  34. LM says:

He is beautiful – more of that please!

  35. Frenchy says:

Oh thanks a lot now I can’t go past the fact that he looks a little bit like Chris Evans, a little touch of Hugh Jackman, a lttle bit like Gene Kelly and yes I can see Justin Theroux too…

  36. Annie_Grey says:

I prefer Louis Jourdan. “Oh Gigi!”

  37. Emma says:

    THOSE EYES.

  38. Ally says:

Jean Dujardin became known in France doing a 10-minute TV show called Un Gars Une Fille (A Guy A Girl), where we see short, funny, daily scenes of a young couple, usually devolving into a very French argument.

He had some terrific tabloid drama right from the start, as both Jean and the woman playing his girlfriend on the show were separately married/part of a couple. Then they fell in love playing the TV couple and are now still together. It was an early Daniel Craig-Rachel Weisz situation, if you will.

You can get a sense of the show here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv6DmygzTVo&feature=related
In this episode, they’re meeting an insufferable male friend’s new girlfriend(s).

I hope Jean does make it in Hollywood, but Americans have a sneering take on the French, and his thick accent will be hard to overcome. I can see Tarantino giving him a job, perhaps.

    • Wendy says:

I’m sure that he could work to lose the accent if he wants to. The question is, does Jean Dujardin actually want to make it in Hollywood?

I kind of have to think that at 39, if he hasn’t been working on his English and accent before this, Hollywood was never really part of his ambitions.

  39. SCREEEE says:

I can not BELIEVE the dude I watched on Un Gars Une Fille for 5 minutes every night growing up is getting an Oscar nomination.

It was this hilarious tiny sketch show about a couple, the simplest, lightest thing ever. Good for him!

  40. Rachel says:

I’d definitely be interested in more about him!

  41. RomanianPrincess says:

There’s such a Gene Kelly vibe he sends in the trailer…and I simply adore Gene Kelly! So…more please!

  42. Moarie says:

If Weinstein ever releases Les Infideles (The Players) in America, I’d love to see you ask this question again. Chances are the vitriol (or “Give us back your Oscar!”) would go through the roof xD
