Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are itching for another baby, if OK Magazine is to be believed. For some reason they tie this into Tom and Nicole Kidman’s son Connor wanting a little brother. Apparently the magazine thinks all a kid has to do is request one and he’ll probably get it. They also make it sound like there’s some kind of bizarre baby boy throw down between Nicole and Katie, though it seems like they took it out of context.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have made it no secret that they want more children in addition to daughter Suri — and no one is rooting for a new Cruise baby more than Tom’s ex, Nicole Kidman! In the December issue of Glamour, the star of the upcoming Australia explains that Connor, her teenage son with Tom, is still hoping for a brother. “[He] would like one of us to have a boy,” she confesses. “He wants that boy. Katie?”

The idea that Nicole is throwing down a challenge to Katie, her successor in the role of Mrs. Tom Cruise, may seem odd to some. But since the actress married country superstar Keith Urban she and Tom have become increasingly civil, almost friendly — especially when it comes to their adopted children, Bella and Connor.

The two couples exchange Christmas gifts, and Katie personally selected $2,000 worth of baby goodies from Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills to send to Nicole shortly before the July 7 birth of Sunday Rose, her daughter with Keith. As OK! exclusively reported at the time, Bella and Connor flew to Nashville to meet their new half sister just days later.

“At 41, Nicole knows she’s not likely to have another baby,” a friend of the actress tells OK!. “It’s obviously up to the much younger Katie to give Connor that baby brother.” And the Cruises are more than ready to welcome a new child into their lives. “Katie and Tom very much want another baby,” a friend of the couple tells OK!. “There may be no better time than now for Katie to get pregnant again and absolutely nothing would make Tom happier.”

I don’t think Nicole was “throwing down a challenge to Katie” – I think it was more, “I’m not doing it, are you?” Next we’ll probably be reading all about their race to have another baby and some sort of feud.

Suri could sure use a sibling close to her age. She doesn’t seem to get a whole lot of interaction with other little kids. The idea of inflicting Tom Cruise on another child seems a little mean, but the kid would probably help redistribute Tom’s energies a bit, and that’d be good for everyone. Suri’s at a good age to get a new sibling and people are often speculating if Katie’s pregnant. I bet they’ll have at least one more pretty soon. If for no other reason than Conner Cruise requested it.
