These are photos of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas entering a birthday party in NYC on January 17th. I saw these photos last week, but I guess I didn’t really look through them, because my only reaction was “meh.” However, the tabloids got out their magnifying glasses and decided that they spied a “bump” hidden within Catherine’s little black Herve Leger, and this week, there are several stories revolving around Catherine’s “miracle pregnancy” at… (cough cough) “42”. Yes, she’s holding at 42! That’s the real story, but here’s one version of the pregnant thing:
After years of trials and tribulations, the tide is finally turning for Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas as the couple prepare to welcome another child!
“Michael is giving Catherine her dream gift – another baby,” an insider tells Star. “He’s adamant about giving her the one thing she is truly desperate for.”
On Jan. 17, Catherine kept what appeared to some observers as her bumped-up belly under wraps. Many onlookers “are buzzing that she is pregnant… she’s absolutely glowing.”
“When things were at their darkest, they could only dream that a miracle like this could happen. Now Michael and Catherine feel as if they have a second lease on life. Michael may be an older man, but he feels like a kid again. And Catherine’s blues have gone away. She feels like she’s walking on sunshine!”

Et cetera. There’s more stuff about how Michael is totally “ready” for another baby, and if something bad happens with this bump of mystery (or if she isn’t really preggo), they’ll totally consider adopting.
As for these photos – the alleged photo evidence of Catherine’s “bump” – I can see where her stomach is not quite flat in these photos, but I don’t think that means “preggo!!!” If anything, I think she looks thinner than she usually looks. Although… the Enquirer used a different photo from this set, and Zeta’s bump definitely looked more pronounced. Still, I think it’s just a food-and-wine gut, not a baby bump. In any case, I don’t think “42” year old Catherine is interested in having another baby, and sources tell Gossip Cop the stories aren’t true anyway.

A man his age is dramatically more likely to produce a child with autism, Downs Syndrome, Scizhophrenia, etc and should not be having children.
The issue here is HIS age, not her’s.

The “new” sperm produced by older men is still old man sperm and contains many more genetic mutations than a younger man’s.
according to my mom’s gyno, if the combined age of the parents is more than 80, all these risks are more pronounced, regardless of the age of the mother. she could be very young, but an older partner will still increase the risks.

I’m kind of rooting for them and this story to be true simply because who would have thought they would last this long? I remember the Mask of Zorro when she was just the hottest “It” girl for a while.
Some attorney friends of mine happened to share an elevator with her last year in a courthouse in New Orleans when she was there shooting a movie. They said she had the tiniest waist they had ever seen on a woman.
Of course, that was last year, so pretty much irrelevant to whether she’s pregnant now. Their comments kind of surprised though because I always thought of CZJ as more voluptuous than tiny (well, voluptuous by Hollywood standards), but according to my friends she was anything but.
ANYWAY…if they both really want another baby, I hope this is true. They seem like a couple that is truly committed to eachother.

She was first famous in the Uk because she was in a TV show between 1991 and 1993, and she was pretty young then. If she’s 42 now she would have been 22 when the show began by her own currently given age, and tbh I think that’s about right. She was definitely early 20s. It still makes my jaw drop to remember the age gap between her and Michael Douglas, but I guess they do seem really happy together, so what do I know.

Well quite – she was 19 in that Larkin thing, back when there would have been absolutely no reason to lie about her age if she’d been 22-25. From what other posters have said, that blind item came out twice (under two different presidents) and is pretty much a urban legend.

Had a friend (married at 40) and she had her children when she was 42/44. Her husband was 25. Her doctor did tell her its beneficial for a woman to partner with a young man, if she plans on becoming pregnant in her 40’s. So the man’s age also is a factor.
Didn’t Michael Douglas have heavy duty chemo? I mean he was stage 4, right? Probably did maintenance afterward (another form of chemo, just less). Maintenance for stage 4 is typically several months. I don’t know if your sperm is “normal” afterward, but I can’t imagine wanting to take that risk.
This is a very good point but they could still have a baby using someone else’s sperm.
A donor is a good suggestion, but perhaps they banked some of his sperm before treatment and have used IVF – if she’s pregnant of course.
I think I read somewhere that they actually did bank some of his sperm prior to the cancer treatments. Not absolutely sure, but kinda sure!

Is it odd that I forgot that they were married. If there is not a reason for another child, it has been corfimed in the last couple years with these two. Health wise they are both still recouperating and a baby that does not know any different should not be around that. Wish them both well.

All the rumours seem to be based on a blind item from years ago about a visit that she and Douglas allegedly made to the White House. I have seen two versions, with different Presidents named, which imo, makes the blind item even stupider than most blind items.
When CZJ is not red-carpetting, her style is very frumpy and dowdy, but for most special events she usually looks amazing. Not a fan of the hair, but I would kill for those shoes & I really like the lipstick colour.

They were normal, healthy, absolutely well-adjusted children, and the Douglas’s are terrific, down-to-earth parents. Catherine is lovely in person and yes,… she’s 42.

I remember it perfectly well when in 1998 ‘The Mask of Zorro’ came out. Everywhere it said that Catherine Zeta-Jones was 28 years old, 10 years older than me at the time. So, if anything, she turned 29 during promoting the film. Now it’s 2012, I’m 31, she’s 42. Adds up pretty damn fine for me.

Interesting, I never thought of her style as ‘middle-aged’ (after she got known in the US, I can’t vouch for her in the earlier days of her carreer as she only jumped onto my radar in 1998). I’ve seen a couple pics of her before. Her name is Carys and she’s absolutely beautiful. I think shes 9 or 10 yrs old now. Looks just like her daddy in my opinion and Dylan is Catherine to a T. As far as Carys having any kind of special needs I haven’t heard Catherine or Michael say anything about it.
I think supposedly Michael D. alluded to their son needing to be schooled in NYC because the schools in Bermuda weren’t enough for his needs. I don’t know anything about the schools in Bermuda, but it could be something like dyslexia, perhaps. Not that I think having dyslexia makes you “special needs”, but it is something to be dealt with.
Agree with jct126. I read the article where Michael said they moved from Bermuda for their son’s schooling and implied he has either learning or another disorder.

Regardless of her age, be it 42 or 48ish (which I doubt, I think 42 is accurate) it is possible to get pregnant at that age and carry to term without complications, as I have witnessed with several of my friends (43,44,47) have healthy full-term pregnancies at approx the same age.
She may or may not be on bi-polar meds, guess what… THEY ARE NOT BIRTH CONTROL! And only a 1 or 2 of them on the market that are safe for women in general have potential side-effects for pregnant women (my husband has been diagnosed as Bipolar II (same as CZ) for close to 8 yrs now & I am no expert but am familiar with the drugs/side effects out there.
As for her husband being sick and older to boot, it’s really a non-issue. Plenty of men his age & even older procreate all the time.

I think her husband being “sick and older” is a pretty big issue. Certainly not a “non-issue.”
But who knows? She could be pregnant. I do think – given her husband’s age, illness, all the medications the two of them have taken lately, her own maternal age – it’s doubtful.
I doubt the pregnancy story is true and believe the pics are the result of any number of reasons: bad camera angle/a full meal/lack of support garments, etc…
As for Michael being sick and the chemo/cancer meds having an effect, I have two words – Lance Armstrong.
Regarding his age: it’s not unheard of and plenty of children grow up just fine without a father around regardless of age issues, an unforseen tragedy, or a simply having a jerk for a dad.
Her Bipolar meds and age are really an issue between her and her doctors. I personally would not put myself in that situation, but unplanned events do happen.
Until I hear a public announcement from Catherine’s own mouth I’m not believing anything. If she really is pregnant, then thats wonderful. I think it’d be great to have another little Zeta running around. But if not, then thats fine too. I mean she’s probably just gaining some much needed weight. Don’t get me wrong. But given the serious health problems of her 80-year old husband Mr. Peanut, it doesn’t seem like it’s a good idea to have another baby with him. Nobody knows what the future will bring, but the odds that Mr. Peanut won’t live to see this kid into adulthood are better than normal. They already have two kids (and Mr. Peanut has another with his previous wife), so it’s not like it’s “now or never” for either of them to have a baby. Doesn’t seem fair to the baby.

This woman is beautiful and classy; however, many think she is older than her 42 years, including me. I am trying to figure out why. Maybe because we think of Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox; skinny, scraggly looking hair parted in the middle, do not dress classy, and have “odd taste” in men.

Just a note: Catherine came out and said she was diagnosed as bipolar and on medication. These medications cause weight gain as the number one side effect. I’m not saying she looks as if she’s fat or anything. She looks great as a matter of fact. However, it may be one cause of the “bump”. Whatever, I wish I were as skinny as she is in these pics.

When she became a star here in the US she was older than I-and strangely enough I’m now 45, and she’s 42. She’s a lovely woman, but she’s had a ton of work done. I don’t think she’s too old to have another baby, but Michael said years ago they were “done”-I can’t imagine they’d want to start over when their older kids are almost teens-especially considering their health issues.

I’ve skied the alps too, dear. Living in Europe now, but I can assure you we have some of the finest mountains and powder anywhere in the world. Not Flagstaff, but the Sierras, the Rockies, BC, they do let us host the Winter Olympics over here, no shortage of great skiing in the American and Canadian West.
Utah is fabulous too. Got engaged on the top of Mammoth Mountain ski resort, learned to ski in Aspen.

Here you have recently indicated that you checked the birth registry site, and that is why you had earlier stated that you felt sorry for her because she looked old. Not to get too semantical, but that post hardly is a retraction of your previous assertion that other posters who believed that CZJ was 42 were in her employ or gullible. In that post you do not acknowledge that she is in fact 42, you say that “IF she is 42”, you feel sorry for her.
I think that it might have been easier for a scholar such as yourself to research some of the citations that were provided to you. Instead, over the course of many hours and many posts, you chose to continue to assert that your sources were good ones and the birth record links that other people had provided were “some random supposed infomations”.
Not attacking you, just providing you with a gentle dress rehearsal for the attacks that will occur to you as you progress with your academics and profession. Trust me, I’ve been there and I’m waaaay older than 42!

Oh it is possible…my best friend from high school looked 35 when she was 16. We used to go to bars when we were young and she was underage, and she was never “proofed”!! I was 6 months older, but I never looked it.

I may be wrong but didn’t he have chemo for stage 4 throat cancer? I’d have to wonder between his cancer treatment and his age if he has viable sperms. I’d also have to question the quality. Plus I wouldn’t want to be hanging from a meat hook for the time CZ was 42 until her present age, she’s closer to 50 in real world chronology, and finally she’s bipolar and that would mean stopping her medication regime for the entire pregnancy which could mean disaster from psychiatric stand point. She’s a world class beauty, talented, still getting parts and has lovely children that both she and her husband are very hands on and involved with. Either way she’d be a very brave woman to take on that much change with so much risk involved.
