The British press, particularly lesser-know gossip rags, are notorious for making up quotes. There are two highly suspect recent quotes from celebrities that are being widely reported.
I don’t report stories I think are fake without some sort of disclaimer, and I haven’t covered these two because they seem completely fabricated to me.
Why are Renee Zellweger and Ben Affleck suddenly talking about their past relationship pain to a random British tabloid called Now? They’re not. These quotes are made up.
Affleck told Britain’s Now magazine: “I should never have got engaged and never gone down that route. I thought I wanted certain things, but I didn’t. I got lost and felt suffocated, miserable and gross. Being in the middle of a tabloid frenzy, it became so intense I had to stop and think, ‘What am I doing with my life?'”
The couple’s relationship was plagued by constant media attention and rumours of rows and the ‘Good Will Hunting’ star admits it was draining.
Affleck revealed: “I had to smile for the cameras, but I was really in turmoil. I was no longer in control of my life and I didn’t know which way to turn. I felt like a hamster in a cage. The faster my legs went, the less distance I seemed to travel.”
And here’s Renee Zellweger’s quote, from the same dubious source:
Speaking for the first time about her failed marriage, Zellweger tells the British magazine Now, “There was no alternative but to let it go.
“I made the biggest personal mistake of my life. I felt a fool.
“I was looking for something else. I just needed to put acting aside. I needed to sit still and not to worry about the dresses and the hair and the travel and the interviews.
“I was going through huge life changes at the time. I wanted to stop and be a girl for a while. My marriage came during this time and it was desperately important to me. I don’t want anyone to think I didn’t take it seriously.”
Zellweger admits Chesney did not approve when the actress invited her close friend to stay in their Hamptons, N.Y., farmhouse soon after their marriage.
She explains, “There was no acceptance of my life or my friends. My friend was pregnant, with her husband and young kid. She was doing up her house for the new baby.”
Zellweger and Affleck are notoriously tight-lipped and protective of their privacy. Affleck might have blabbed like this in the past, but he’s a family man now and has worked hard to stay out of the spotlight and rebuild his public image since the J.Lo fiasco. He wouldn’t bring it up like this, just like Zellweger wouldn’t remind the public of her failed four-month marriage.

Finally – someone with nerve enough to say that this is all nonsense! Neither one of them has ever said anythign about their past relationships and all Ben ever said was that the publicity made everything too complicated for him – he said nothing about J-Lo and since she is still trotting her butt around to every fashion event and awards show – evidently, the attention was not too much for her. She just can’t get it with Mugli the way she did with Ben
That makes sense – I was wondering exactly WHY they were both speaking up now.
I know they like never talk. Although I did believe Ben Affleck would feel that way about J. Lo, she’s too much drama for him. He’s better off with Jennifer Garner, she’s much sweeter and prettier.
I wish people would stop lying about Jennifer Garner being pretty. She’s not.
Ben Affleck looks bored.
I doubt he said this too. Even still it was obvious the scrutiny was getting to the both of the.
Jennifer Lopez is prettier than Garner. The life she leads is all her own, she looks much more settle to me than Affleck. I give his relationship a couple of more years once his career is firmly secured again.
