Jennifer Lawrence in Victoria Beckham in Madrid: youthful and appropriate?

Jennifer Lawrence covers the April issue of Interview Germany in a Dolce and Gabbana bodysuit. Naturally, she looks gorgeous, and her figure is smashing even though I’m not crazy about the smooshed boob effect at hand. Her girls look like they’re in pain, but at least JLaw isn’t sporting some ridiculous underboob. Obviously, I’d never make it in Hollywood because I can’t bear to even show more than a bare minimum of cleavage let alone smooshed-up boobs. It’s like any given rack gets stared enough already as is, right? I’m probably coming off like such a prude, but I can’t stand it when people talk to my chest and see no point in encouraging the practice.

Anyway, there has been no rest for the wicked or, at least, one who solidly delivers as a morally ambiguous heroine in The Hunger Games. Now Jennifer has been dispatched for the Madrid premiere of the movie, and she’s wearing a Victoria Beckham dress with Brian Atwood booties.

At least this dress is an improvement from the gawd awful red Marchesa gown that J-Law wore in Berlin, but to be honest, I’m of the opinion that both Marchesa and Victoria Beckham are amongst the most overrated designers currently favored by various Hollywood starlets. I just don’t get the appeal of either, and it bugs me that everything Victoria designs mostly just looks good on her. Still, this is a more youthful look for J-Law than she’s favored on recent red carpets, which is a welcome change. She still needs a new stylist for sure as well as a makeup artist who will stop piling on such heavy eyeliner all over that beautiful face. Also, those boots are fug.

I don’t like the dress, it’s baggy and loose, it doesn’t fit her and it hides her nice curves. no no no.

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Agreed. Way too baggy and ill-fitting.

    • Jaxx says:

Not only does it not fit, it looks like a home ec project gone really wrong. The fabrics neither match nor compliment each other. And the shoes look like hooves. Deluxe fashion fail.

  2. Neelyo says:

‘I’m of the opinion that both Marchesa and Victoria Beckham are amongst the most overrated designers currently favored by various Hollywood starlets.’

Add Stella McCartney to that list. Her designs are horrible. This dress looks like something Suri Cruise would wear.

    • paola says:

Yep Stella McCartney would be a next door greengrocer if it wasn’t for her famous father.

      • Eleonor says:

Plus Stella’s dresses usually looks too much like other gowns…recently Calvin Klein of the 90’s.

    • Redheadwriter says:

Stella has to top the list, definitely.

    • podzol says:

Agreed with the fact that Stella McCartney is a case of “the emperor has no clothes”. Soooo overrated. And the collection she designed for Britain re: Olympic Games 2012 is cheap and tacky.

  3. Liz says:

I like it and I haven’t liked alot of outfits they have dressed her in. Its cute and youthful.

    • gigi says:

Agree. I like that it’s loose, colorful and short rather than dark and skintight like what most starlets wear these days. I’m not crazy about the material on the bottom part of the dress but she saves it with the shoes. And I actually think her makeup’s kinda cute too.

  4. Tanguerita says:

    this dress looks cheap.

  5. Katie says:

I love it. I hate the shoes. I also wish she has on less eye make up. She’s beautiful and doesn’t need all that.

  6. Trillian says:

I HATE booties. They make feet look like hooves.
She’s very pretty as long as she doesn’t smile. Her smile just looks demented.

    • hunter says:

Booties look awful with dresses and make legs look stumpy. Maybe with short pants or long pants or … pants.

    • Emily says:

I love booties with jeans, or a dress with black opaque tights. Never with bare legs.

  7. INeedANap says:

I think she is uncomfortable getting dressed up in fashion-forward ways, and her interviews confirm that. I would love to see her go the Evan Rachel Wood route and rock ladypants on the red carpet. Admittedly, JL is curvier than ERW, but the right fit and tailoring would make cigarette pants, a silk tank top, and a nifty jacket look absolutely smashing on her.

  8. Claire says:

I have a real problem with her eyes in photos, i don’t know if it’s the make up, or what, but something seems..off. In every post about her i see it. But when she acts, they’re fine. Weird.

    • Ellie says:

I completely agree. I think she’s gorgeous, but in stills there’s definitely some strange effect goin on…like both of her eyes are looking in slightly different directions maybe?

But since she never looks that way on film, I’m inclined to believe that the several pounds of poorly applied eyeliner could be to blame–like maybe it’s too thick at the outer corners and completely disappears at the inner corner. Maybe? Just my theory.

    • nina says:

she’s way cute, but she has very thin-nonexistent eyelids which make her eyes look smaller. So makeup artists keep overcompensating wtih wayyyyy too heavy eye liner on a young girl, which in turn makes her eyes look wonk. they need to put down the eyeliner.

    • Lulu says:

Agree with nina. I have a very similar eye shape and heavy lids – heavy liner below the lower lash line is a no no. It makes that eye shape look strange and smaller than they are. For some reason makeup artists always try to do the same thing to me. Ewww. Jennifer Lawrence is a stunningly beautiful girl and it seems like her stylist/makeup person are going out of their way to try to make her look fug.

  9. gee says:

I love this whole look, top to bottom.

  10. Tilly says:

Given the disproportionate hype of this film, she is most likely filled with anxiety – probably took a Xanax.

  11. Esmom says:

The dress works, I think, it’s more youthful and mod than some of her recent choices. But those bangs have got to go…stat!

  12. Maya says:

I don’t like the Interview cover – there’s a line between sexy and trashy and I think the way they styled her crossed it. I’m not crazy about the Madrid dress either, but I think her hair and makeup look really pretty.

    • P says:

This only shows how she’s already doing things the HW way and I can’t wait for people to finally see that all the hype they’re giving her is nothing but an act.

  13. Agnes says:

is this a dress-dress? it looks like 2 (3?) separate pieces. and it’s ill-fitting. meh.

  14. backwards says:

I love her but this doesn’t do it for me

  15. Franny says:

This girl, I just don’t know where to start with her style. She is so damn cute but can be sexy, but this patchwork poorly sewn dress is doing her no favors. Look at that face! I want to see beautiful cocktail dresses with awesome shoes. For the star of the biggest movie in the world, I want more.

  16. Lucy says:

    VB designed THIS?!

She wouldn’t be caught dead in that futuristic, Holly Hobby POS.

  17. AudreyS says:

I love that dress and am surprised I’ve liked most of VB’s designs. Stella, on the other hand, ugh.

  18. Lee says:

She is definitely someone who is MORE beautiful without make-up than with it. Whoever is troweling that crap on her eyes needs to just stop. And the dress? Fug. She can look youthful and non-trampy in something less sack-like. The dress looks cheap. That lovely girl is being failed by whoever is styling her.

  19. Alice says:

I read today on the Daily Beast that she’s apparently going all K-Stew with all the new attention she’s getting. The article says she’s been saying weird stuff and feeling the anxiety. I hope this isn’t true, I think she has a great career ahead of her.

And yeah, the girl needs a new stylist asap. Eye make up has been really bad.

    • Lila says:

I found that article really awful to both of them ….Not a huge fan of Kstew, but they were pulling quotes from the first film when she was like 17

      • almond says:

That article was atrocious. I felt such second-hand shame for the author! I would never publish something like that: so embarrassingly subjective and petty, full of strawman arguments. Ugh… At least the people in the comments are having none of it and are flaying both the author and the site.

  20. foozy says:

    yuk! what a horrifying dress!

  21. Lauren says:

It is amazing that a young woman can carry a movie..JL is remarkable. She has a tremendous amount of pressure on her, and i admire her grace. I like the fact that she is not all glam and plastic–it makes her more real & approachable.

  22. danielle says:

I can’t wait for her to lose the bangs.

  23. aenflex says:

First film I’ve seen her in; she will always be Katniss to me, I think.
I love her though, her interview on DL was adorable. Here’s to hoping she stays so quirky and humble and unpretentious.

  24. Blue says:

Can someone please give this girl a new stylist. Her hair, makeup and clothes range from awful to meh. She is very pretty with an amazing body and they are styling her terribly.

  25. Christina says:

I wish whoever styled her for the Oscar 2011 would come back – that red ck gown was amazing on her – still her best look for me so far 🙂

  26. angel says:

Great actress, pretty woman, terrible styling.

  27. mia girl says:

I think she looks amazing on the Interview cover.

    The dress… no

  28. ruddyzookeeper says:

Wow, she becomes a beautiful young woman when she DOESN’T smile. Stick with that.

    • alison8701 says:

aw, I think her smile is cute. She’s got bottom lip dimples! Who’da thought!

I like her smile because it DOES transform her– but from gorgeous pouty mcserious, to goofy sweet girl. That’s a great quality. Her smile is very impish. I like it. 🙂

  29. Zigggy says:

She is so cute. Red beans & rice didn’t miss her 😉

  30. mel says:

She dresses way to old…she needs to take a look at how Kristen Stewart does young, fresh and sexy without looking cheap. Love her or hate her – her style is always spot on when she is out promoting.

  31. Isa says:

She was so pretty in the movie with her brown hair and very little makeup. I hate her as a blonde, which is odd because normally I prefer blondes.
The dress is horrible. It looks like she’s wearing a sack.
Her hair does look okay on the cover. But you would think that outfit would have a little lift instead of pushing her puppies down.

  32. Pedge says:

Usually I hate VickyBeck’s designs, but this looks cute. J-Law can do no wrong in my book, though.

  33. Cathy says:

I can’t decide if I like the dress or not. The shoes are definately ewww. Maybe if it had a different cut in the neck, not to revealing but perhaps a small v cut would of looked better.

  34. Gattis says:

I think she would be perfect for a juvenil brand as Fornarina.

  35. Ellie says:

Why do they have her dressed up like Ke$ha on the Interview cover? I thought it was Ke$ha for the teensiest second, they I felt ashamed of myself for mistaking Jennifer for such a slob-kabob.

  36. Aiobhan says:

The dress is ugly. It hides her boobs and makes them look saggy at the same time. But her make up and hair are even worse.

  37. OlsenTriplet says:

Someone please explain these shoes to me.

  38. Day says:

Nope. Another fail to me. Hate the dress and booties. Unless you have super long legs, don’t wear them. They cut off your legs.

Also, I hate when she smiles. It seems forced.

She is so pretty and has a nice shape. I wish she had someone to help her dress.

  39. Alexis says:

She is pretty with a great body. Yet she always looks…not awful, because she’s got a lot to work with, but pretty darn mediocre, with the exception of the Oscars. It seems as though her makeup artists and wardrobers have it in for her. I’ve seen girls a lot more basic looking than her look miles better, that’s for sure.

  40. Reece says:

    That cover. Alright I guess.
Don’t hate the dress, I hate the booties especially with the dress.
Doesn’t look like too much eyeliner just dull metallic shadow, mascara. Gray shadow, blue eyes & gray/blue dress and GAWD AWFUL SHOES!!!

  41. elle says:

I don’t care what she’s wearing I just love Jennifer Lawrence; she’s hilarious in almost every interview and comes across as very down to earth. She’s such a great role model for girls my age! Ah, I’m becoming a crazy J-Law fan!!!!!

  42. UKHels says:

that dress is god awful – VB’s stuff is gross, looks really cheap and nasty. She must have compromising photos ha ha

  43. FrowninPabloDread says:

    Dear Jennifer,

You girl are a great actress, winter’s bone was amazing. Not only do you seem intelligent you are beautiful, with an amazing figure. Here’s the problem if you have a stylist. Fire them. They secretly hate you and are dressing you to make you look the fool. I could style you better if you want. Yes, some of your dresses I have enjoyed, but seriously fire your stylist before its too late.
    Your friend,
    the pirate FrowninPabloDread

  44. Beatrix says:

    that dress is atrocious

  45. the original bellaluna says:

Where’s Cinna when you need him? 🙂 Seriously though, in the pix she looks to me like someone who was shoved into the spotlight without being ready for it. Look at her face; look at her expressions.

That’s what I take away from these pix. (Other than I wouldn’t wear anything VB designs, and I still hate booties with dresses/skirts.)

  46. Ron says:

    no. just no.

  47. L-o says:

Bangs trauma. And yes . . .she looks better w/less makeup and a real – not forced – smile.

And yes, VBeckham’s not that good. At least it’s not as gosh-awful as Stella McC.

  48. Mary says:

I find Lawrence so plain looking. I don’t get all this gorgeous talk. She’s so meh. Brilliant actress though.

  49. Jenny says:

She always looks like a deer i front of the huntsmen.
No one forced you to be an actress and stand in front of photographers.

  50. Daphne says:

Can’t help it. I love her and her ability to brush off the hollywood ideal of beauty (emaciated, duck-lipped, etc). I hope she stays the way she is. She’s A-mazingly talented and beautiful without all of that.

  51. Coucou says:

Two words come to mind: Skinny Adele.
