Wow, even more Brangelina news. Shocking! Take that, Kim and Kanye. Personally, I always welcome Brangelina news, but I’m wary of the deluge. It’s coming. Probably tomorrow, when all of the tabloids release their covers – I’m expecting lots of Uncool Bermuda Triangle stuff, and you should too. But for today, in this the halcyon day before the tabloid deluge, we merely have one negative and one positive story to discuss – we already talked about Angelina’s engagement-ring-flaunting photo op this morning too.
Meanwhile, Life & Style has an “exclusive” story about the proposal. I’m hoping that the print edition of People Magazine has a story about the proposal too, but for now, I’ll take L&S’s version:
Angelina Jolie may have only just debuted her gorgeous engagement ring, but Life & Style can exclusively reveal that she and Brad Pitt have been engaged for months!
A source says that Brad proposed to Angelina at Christmas and that the couple decided to keep it a secret until the timing was just right.
“Brad had the ring designed last year and made sure it was ready by Christmas because he wanted a romantic Christmas proposal — and he got it,” a friend of Brad’s tells Life & Style.
“They didn’t announce their engagement sooner because Angie focused so much on promoting her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey,” says the insider.
Instead, Brad waited until after the December premiere before getting down on one knee.
“She was very busy with the movie and her Oscar campaign. She also worried that the engagement would take over press on her film and detract from that. There was some negative press on Blood and Honey that bothered her a lot, and she didn’t feel the timing was right. So they waited,” reveals the source.
On April 13, after Angelina was spotted wearing the ring at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, a rep for jeweler Robert Procop confirmed to Life & Style that Brad and Angelina were engaged, after more than six years as a couple.
Procop — who designed a collection, The Style of Jolie, with Angelina — worked with Brad to make the perfect sparkler.
In a statement to Life & Style, the jeweler’s team said, “Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized over a yearlong collaboration with Robert. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so Robert was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suit Angelina’s hand.”
A Christmas proposal? Where were they over Christmas? They were maybe in New York City – they were photographed in NYC just before Christmas, and Star Magazine claimed that Brad and Angie were talking/fighting about getting married over Christmas in New York too. I don’t know – they could have been in LA or maybe Missouri too. I want to think Brad made sure that the proposal was super-romantic and fancy, and not some kind of peace offering in the middle of a gigantic fight.

A jeweler who doesnt know how to keep a clients confidentiality spills. Then same day “somebody” leaks a pic of her in a museum, ring on display. Child to illustrate what an attentive mum she is. Brad looking mothy enough to be man next door. Give her the crown for Queen of image manipulation.

Its a perfectly believable tale: The jewel guy gossips about his clients. Meanwhile, AJ as earth mother extraordinairre is innocently guiding her son through a museum. Totally minding her own business with her suddenly appearing million dollar ring. Horrible man takes photo. Horrible man sells photo. What a coincidence!
Poor earth mother can only confirm the good news. And also accept prize for being the most perfect mummy of all.
He He! That’s what every engaged female does when she has her ring – she shows it off. Why are you making it seem like it’s some dark, evil, manipulative thing to do? It’s the perfectly natural and healthy thing to do. It’s very sweet that she’s proud of it.

Anyway, yesterday on E! News Live the news about their engagement even had a theme song and sorry, that was just too much for me.

I actually kind of believe this Life and Style story, which normally they run fairly ridiculous stories.
What is the point of an engagement when you have been together for 6 years and have 6 children together? Just get married already. I think being ‘engaged’ is a bit much… it isn’t like they are needing the time to get to know each other better or save for a wedding. Just more time to get positive press attention after The Leg.

Perhaps Brad want to be different from her previous relationships. Want to give her what she never got before.
Who knows? We do not know them. What feel special for one person doesn’t always feel special for the other person. Some people might think what’s the point getting engaged after having kids and being together for years, but some people also think that it’s a sweet and special thing to do even after being together all this time.
Kinda like my feeling when I finally going out for a date with hubby after 4 years never got a private time. 🙂
Honestly, we’re planning to get married after years being together with kids, and while I do not even want to buy a wedding gown, my man still insist that we should do it in traditional way. The cake, the dress, the party,etc. Because he still want to make that my special day. He wants to give me what other girls have.

Hmmm….It’s kinda like asking what’s the point still celebrating your birthday when you are already 95 years old (Not to be rude but if following your logic: why not just plan a funeral and be done with it,non?) or what’s the point renewing your marriage vow at your golden wedding anniversary when you already been together for years?
For me, it’s also about family event. Where everybody got to share the love,joy and happiness. So they might do this engagement for their kids and families.
Each people have their own idea how they would like that special day forming.
The Jolie-Pitt might start their family in a non traditional way but doesn’t mean that they can not have the engagement first before the wedding.

If you couldnt be bothered to read it – apparently the list of Cannes Festival contestants is coming out this week. And Brad as you know hasnt done well at Festivals (if you recall audiences of Tree of Life actually laughed at the screening). Brads just trying to remind judges that he can bring glitz & Pap cameras to their artsy festival. Once hes there, maybe he can convince somebody that hes a real auteur and not just pretty boy Ken.
Ofcourse all this drama is being driven by her people, well because shes still miffed at her Oscar leg debacle & her film that only grossed $300K. But Brad isnt intervening, because of the above.
Sure they’e getting married but the engagement and timing of the announcement is very calculated.

The point of the engagement is THEY WANTED IT.
why people are so upset that they are getting married. If he never married her then they would be saying he didn’t love her enough or whatever they have been saying for the past 7 years. So many ugly comments calling her names because they were not married. Calling the children names. Now the same people are all why after 6 kids.. well answer again.. BECAUSE THEY WANT TO GET MARRIED.
They love each other. They have a family together. They have decided to get married. That is the point and it is their life not anyone else’s. I guess the negative is because those that were counting on a break up were wrong. The tabloids and other have been miscalculating Brad and Angie for years.
Well good for them. doing what they want and not caring what outsiders have to say. Especially since it is none of their business.
When you invite the press into your private life, and sell parts of the ‘private’ life, I don’t think you are entitled to have a private life on the same terms as private citizens. I don’t think people don’t want them to get married or whatever. It is just that the engagement smells of a big PR stunt by a woman who pretends she could care less about what her public persona is. It is the dichotomy of this pretending indifference, whilst orchestrating a calculated PR barnstorm, that puts people off.

So true. This is so obviously an attempt to recover from the leg incident. This “engagement” has one purpose – publicity. If they really wanted to do this for their kids, they would have quietly and graciously been married already. It’s ridiculous. Also, is her diamond conflict- free?

I can believe he proposed at Christmas, that might be why she seemed to be so happy & giddy all during awards season. I respect them even more now for waiting until after all the awards this winter were over before wearing the ring in public. That shows they are not famewhores. You know every B, C & D list celebrity would have flashed that ring immediately and as often as they could.
I’m on a ring binge at the moment. I’m just ogling the diamonds haha. Boyfriend of more than 7 years and I went to the jewelry store on the weekend and I tried a few rings on to see what I liked. I’m in sparkle overload really, and my crow like tendencies are showing.
It’s nice that they’re doing the engagement thing. So what if they had kids and have spent years together. They don’t need the public’s approval either way.
