People always assume that because I’m half-Indian, I have strong feelings about the name “India” for an actual person. I don’t have some major opinion on it really. Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky welcomed their first child on Friday – a baby girl they named India. I don’t know if she’s got a middle name, but I kind of like the simplicity of “India Hemsworth”. It’s cute. Lord Mountbatten (“The Last Viceroy” of India) named his daughter India as well – that’s what I always associate it with. I guess I’ve just grown to the point where I don’t mind if people name their babies country-names. Name your child China, or India, or America. Name him England. Name her Ireland. Name him Egypt. Name her or him Kenya. All of those names are totally not as bad as some of the other names I’ve heard.
Thor’s a dad! Chris Hemsworth, who flexes his superhero muscles in The Avengers, and his actress wife Elsa Pataky welcomed a baby girl on Friday.
They named their first child India. “We love the country and love the name,” Hemsworth, 28, tells USA Today.
Hemsworth, who also stars in the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman, and Pataky, 35, who appeared in Fast Five, tied the knot in 2010.
When she announced her pregnancy, the Spanish beauty had some other news – for Hemsworth. – saying he’d better brush up on his language skills.
“I’m only going to speak to the baby in Spanish,” she said in an interview in Hola! magazine. “I already told my husband, ‘Get ready fast with Spanish because, if not, you’re not going to be able to understand what we say.”

I never realized the age difference between Chris and Elsa – I thought he was older than 28 and I thought she was younger than 35. Oh well – I’m sure it will work. Those Aussie boys seems to mate for life. Is it interesting that Chris and Elsa welcomed their baby just a few months after Chris’s fellow Avenger Robert Downey Jr. welcomed his son? Maybe little Exton Elias and India Hemsworth will end up together one day. They’ll be a crime-fighting duo. Or, you know, actors.

agree with you here. My sis-in-law is in the business (used to be in production, now is in casting) and she’s friends with Adrien Brody. The crap Elsa Pataky pulled on Adrien was criminal, really. I always see her and think “that bitch,” and I rarely do that.

I got that feeling about her, but nice to have confirmation. I saw the pictorial in Hello; you could tell he was head over heels. I was surprised when they broke up. When she turned up with this guy I pegged her as a gold digger.

She had Adrien wrapped around her finger and he basically did her bidding. She wanted a castle, he bought one. She wanted a pictorial in Hello, he did it even though he didn’t really want to. She wanted a lavish lifestyle, he took crap roles that paid out quick to give her that lifestyle (which I think damaged his rep as an actor). Then she ditched him and had the nerve to ask for the castle in the split. She was a demanding calculating shrew and through it all, Adrien never said a bad word about her. His friends, however, never seem to have a GOOD word to say about her except that she’s very pretty.
It always makes me laugh how the wives of guys just on the verge of making it manage to produce a baby at the right time. She’s got him locked down now! 😉

Yeah, but there’s a big difference in the mental development of men and women – men in their 20s are much more immature than women.

Totally. In my social circle alone out of the last half dozen babies that have been born 4 of them are Indie or India. It’s the new Madison.

@Reba – I do not see a hugely different nose per your exclamation and the picture you have surplied. She’s done a very small change, straightening it out mainly. The rest is simply weight loss and different make up/styling.
Now if you used that old picture vs the one in the header of this article, we would be talking because she looks like a botox barbie in the header picture, and her nose really looks like standard surgery nose, as do her cheeks.
But i also stand by the adage losing/gaining weight, and make-up/hair style changes can leave you looking like a completely different person.

I feel weird and like a horrible person saying this, as she just had a baby, but Elsa has a really bad reputation in her home country. She’s kind of known as a famewhore. I’ve read a couple of interviews where she just gives way too many details. She also married him right before he hit it big with Thor. I remember Lainey kind of had a side eye and was a bit snarky when they got married. I also hate saying this, but it’s weird as fuck that she got pregnant right when he was filming The Avengers and Snow White and gave birth in the middle of promotions. It’s almost like she timed it, like she knew he was getting to be a way huge star and got knocked up so he wouldn’t leave her, because most guys won’t leave if their baby is very young. Aaah I feel like an awful person thinking this stuff. But the timing is just so weird. She got married right before Thor came out and got pregnant in the middle of these films…

I kind of wonder about that too. I went to see Dark Shadows on Friday and they had a new (at least I think it was new) Snow White and the Huntsman trailer. I know in the past they kind of minimized Kstew or maximized Charlize, but she spoke a couple of times in the trailer and it was maybe 50 Charlize/40 KStew/10 Chris in terms of images/lines. Which was weird to me. Everybody keeps mentioning KStew, but Chris is also another title character. It’s not Snow White, it’s Snow White and the Huntsman. Then again, sometimes they just cut a trailer to show off the best visual imagery (I know someone who does that for a living) and it has jack shit to do with the actors. Still, I thought it was weird. Also, don’t see Dark Shadows. It was groaningly awful, and Johnny’s love interest was horrendously bad in her part. She literally had the blankest expression.

Exactly. Like I said, I feel like such a bitch saying it but the marriage and birth had such weird timing. She’s 35 and it’s not as common to get knocked up by accident at that age. Plus, I just can’t imagine anyone would purposely get pregnant while their husband is busy filming two movies and then time it to give birth when said husband is promoting the movies. It’s just really weird.
Considering what I’ve read about this woman, I wouldn’t be surprised if she actually timed her pregnancy.

On another news front, I saw “Snow White and the Huntsman” last night (June 1st). The director dropped the ball and Kristen Stewart totally needed acting lessons…she was a drain on the movie…in other words…boring…tedious…and did not realize that she was not doing Bella.
This movie is definitely not worth paying full price to see…bargain fare or wait on the DVD rental. And, this is from a person who had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of this movie for months. What a let down!
P.S. Chris Hemsworth did not disappoint, but he was unable to carry the whole movie by himself.
