I can’t keep up with all of the film festivals these days – I thought the Los Angeles Film Festival didn’t happen until October or November? But maybe I’m thinking about the AFI Film Fest or something? Anyway, last night the LA Film Festival began with the premiere of Woody Allen’s new movie, To Rome With Love. Penelope Cruz stars in the film – this is her second collaboration with Woody, I believe. The first collaboration was Vicky Christina Barcelona, and Penelope ended up winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the role. In that film, she played a crazy, temperamental, bisexual artist. In this film, Penelope plays a hooker. Because Woody Allen writes so well for women.
Anyway, Penelope wore this Michael Kors which is… okay. I’m not in love with the color, but it’s not bad on Penelope with her beautiful, dark coloring. On a blonde, it would look like oatmeal fug. My biggest problem with this look? Penelope’s beautiful hair looks dirty and oily. What’s the deal? Is that a style choice or is she really walking the carpet with dirty, unwashed hair?
Here’s the trailer for To Rome With Love. It looks cute. Sort of. I do think it’s nice that Woody is mining some fresh young talent like Jesse Eisenberg and Ellen Page.
I’m also including a photo of Julie Delpy because I love her un-Botoxed face, and Woody and Soon Yi. On the red carpet, Woody was asked about his recent “dinner” with Lindsay Lohan, and he said this: “I wouldn’t hesitate to use her in a movie because she’s a very talented girl. That was a social dinner [not for a movie]… I would not hesitate if I had something for her I would certainly call her.” Gross.

I agree about the hair. Disagree about the dress — which I think is just plain ugly.
She’s got a lot of hair. She probably wanted a sleeker style so her hairdresser put way too much product on it. I can’t imagine her on a promotional event with dirty hair.
I can’t imagine a professional making that kind of mistake… not to that degree at least. It’s not like she walks into a low end salon and picks some new stylist to do her hair.
I vote either dirty, or she tried to do it herself. Or both.
Her hair is very similar to mine — I’d even say my “celebrity hair twin” is Penelope Cruz. So I guess if she wanted a sleeker style, a ponytail would have been a better choice.
I think her hair is probably clean, but it DOES look dirty.
I’ve got lots and lots of hair, and that is “excessive product hair” if ever I saw it!
That dress is horribly unflattering.
It’s the “wet look”, hands down worst hair trend. I can’t believe anyone would try this anywhere but the runway (not that it looks good on the runway)
Bus-ted, all the way around.
so, so busted.
hair is awful. emphasizes how badly she’s aging. The dress is ok. not very memorable
The cut of that dress is unflattering and it’s fighting the mood of the hair.
The hair is one of those thing that look great on your beach vacation but can’t translate into your real life when you get home.
The hair is awful, she should have just pulled it back into her normal bun hair if it’s that greasy, the dress is just okay.
Much agreement.
Is that just plain greasy hair? I would say I have oily skin/hair and my hair has never been like that. Seems like the hair dresser was going for a greased back look in which he used a TON of product.
I never really liked Penelope until she acted in an italian movie called ‘Non ti muovere’, a sad true story where she acted from the beginning to the end in an almost perfect italian, then i realized she was a good actress and also very pretty..but she looks bad here, i blame the hair, but she is a lovely lady.
P.s. Roberto Benigni i love you.
Yeah I agree, I think its too much product vs. dirty hair. My hair will look like this if I use to much Moroccan oil in it. That is the worst, it is dry but still looks wet and greasy. I have to wash and start all over when that happens. I won’t even go to work like that. Can’t imagine walking a red carpet with that look.
Ugh! I kept reading how great Moroccanoil is, so I bought some for my hair. Biggest waste of money I ever spent on a hair product. It gunked my hair all up and actually made it look dull and lifeless. I’m sticking with plain old jojoba oil.
Am I the only one whose had that experience with the “root lift” products? I look like a greasy, oily-haired person when I use those. Which sucks, because my hair is straight as an ironing board and weighs a metric f*ck-ton.
Bad hair but I kind of like the dress on her.
I don’t care for Woody Allen, but oh I loved Midnight in Paris. I’ll probably check this film out too.
Watch Woody Allen be the reason why Lindsay Lohan gets a comeback.
It almost looks like she was aiming for the “wet look” with her hair. She missed, obviously.
I not sure you can have a hit with the “wet look”. It doesn’t even look good on models, at best it’s bearable.
Im admittedly not a fashionista but I like the dress and agree her hair is an attempt at a wet look style gone wrong and there was probably no time to fix it so she just said forget it and got on with her job on the red carpet. She may be smiling but we don’t know if she was actually really annoyed with her and maybe someone heard about later (in angry spanish)? I do agree I love Penelope in foreign movies.
It looks like a a lot of product. Sadly it comes off dirty. Dress is meh.
I don’t care. I love her. She’s gorgeous.
Wait … WTF? … Woody was in Los Angeles? He hasn’t been in LA in like 50 years
Love her dress, so very pretty and elegant. Her hair looks like its heavily gelled. Not my favorite look.
She’s more often a miss than a hit. Too bad – she’s very pretty with a nice figure.
