Poor, pitiful Princess Charlene. You guys always yell at me when I talk about how rough Charlene’s life is, and how I don’t envy it, but for real. I would not want to switch places with her. Charlene and her husband have a new interview with CBS, and it’s… amazing. I have a different interpretation than Lainey, who thinks it was so awful, the interview shouldn’t have even taken place. I mean, obviously, Charlene and Albert seem to kind of hate each other (hilarious) and they are not any kind of “fairy tale” or aspirational royal marriage or anything. But I laughed several times during the video, so it totally works if that was their goal. Wait, that wasn’t their goal? LOL. Watch the interview and then we’ll discuss it:
My first thoughts were “OMG, what is Charlene doing to her face?” Many of you have claimed that Charlene has gotten a boatload of plastic surgery over the years, and while we can dispute “boatload,” she’s definitely getting something done. Her lips look so weird, especially when she’s speaking. The whole thing reminds me of Nicole Kidman trying to speak normally through HER lip augmentation.
After I got past Charlene’s funky lips and actually began listening to what she’s saying and her body language throughout the interview… she just seems over it. Maybe she was never really into it in the first place. But it feels like she’s not even putting in any effort to convince us that she’s in a good marriage. But then – OMG!!!!! – Charlene gets “stumped” by the question, “What’s it like to be a princess?” and Albert SHUTS DOWN the interview? For real, y’all? And then when Albert and Charlene get the question about his mother (Grace Kelly), Charlene looks like she’s going to projectile vom. Classic!!
Around the 5-minute mark, Albert and Charlene start responding to questions about whether Charlene tried to pull a runner before the wedding and whether Albert’s goons took away her passport and stuff. Charlene offers a meek denial, then Albert begins his denial, and Charlene just looks like she’s going to throw up again, and I swear, she actually rolled her eyes at him. Amazing!
Oh, and it looks like Albert is still trying to get the Ol’ Baster in her. Poor Charlene. He just sees her as a broodmare, and he really doesn’t seem to give a crap about her beyond that.

No, he certainly doesn’t seem to be very attached to her, does he. And at the beginning, when they were standing and the interviewer introduced herself to Charlene, did you see the way that Albert looked at Charlene? He has no patience for her, and there was anger and indifference in it at as well. Poor girl.
I feel sorry for her, too. I don’t see this woman as a famewhore. NOT all people in the media are famewhores. She probably genuinely loved the guy at one point. Sometimes people think it’s too late to back out. She shows more class than him. He mumbles…and as for ‘shutting her down’…what an arse. His answers were worse than hers. He stumbled constantly and who the heck could understand what he was saying. He was talking in circles. What a daft ‘Prince’…just goes to show you…that you can have privilege by way of inheritance not because you’re cerebral. Once again…arse!!

She probably truly was in love with him, and now is in shock of “what did I get myself into” and feels it’s too late or early to back out. My heart goes out to her and I hope she finds her own without having to rely on this incompetent royal.

This answered everyone’s speculation about Charlene being a prison bride, she is! The part where the interviewer mentions the tabloids constantly alleging Charlene’s unhappiness and her doubts about the marriage, Prince Albert talks about how unfair the rumors were, while she stays quiet and looks blankly around the room. That said everything, without having to say a word.

No, what they said was too personal was when they asked HER what qualities had attracted her to him. Obviously she can’t answer that cause she despises him so someone had to step in.I always find the Grimaldis’ American accents so shocking when I hear them. Don’t know why since they learned English from their mother so naturally her accent is what they’d have.

I caught about a minute of it this morning, and it was so awkward!! I can’t watch the video here at the moment, but what I saw, they asked him about what made her special and he sort of stammered his way through it, and when they asked her what had attracted her to him, she started laughing uncomfortably and they ended it, saying it was too personal a question. WTF!
I wouldn’t want that life either. Money and luxury are nice, but give me happiness, freedom, and love any day.
Wow, that interview was awful. If it wasn’t confirmed before that she is unhappy, it sure is clear now. She did look very uncomfortable to be near him and neither one of them seem fond of each other. That marriage was clearly a mistake.
What interests me is the huge difference between her comments on their marriage and how she lit up when they began talking about her swimming. Her attitude and body language were so vastly different and she seemed to speak with confidence about it.
When she asked Charlene how married life is, Charlene says “great” but shakes her head heavily. It really shows that she is totally over it and unhappy. Poor thing.
I’m surprised that a prince, raised by a famous actress and with so many years in front of cameras, is so terrible at interviewing. Stuttering and fumbling along- he should have a lot more PR and interview training. In fact, this is probably after years of work. I wouldn’t be surprised if he picked her because she bore a passing resemblance to his mother and has talked about how his mother did this and his mother did that. For years. He seems pretty socially inept for a prince.
Why do you feel bad for her? She was a grown woman when they got engaged/married. She knew of his philandering ways. I don’t understand the pity party for her. It’s self induced. If she didn’t want to marry him and live this life she should have said no when he asked. They have absolutely no chemistry and if he was just some regular guy I doubt she would have given him second glance. Marrying royalty especially someone who is in line to become king has very specific expectations.
Generally, I’d agree with you, but this woman allegedly escaped, ran away to the consulate and begged to be allowed to leave. Royals went after her, took her passport, and basically forced her to come back. She then cried through her whole wedding.
Honestly, what could they have done if she refused to marry him? Kill her? Lol. Like I said there are always choices. I remember reading the feature she had in vogue it said she had been with him for many years before they got engaged. I agree with Lisa, and it was Albert’s reaction to Charlene’s question that gave him away. It seems he is gay or bi or a cross-dresser or into role playing and very uncomfortable having it come out. I think that even if someone like Charlene is shy and naive or even rather slow, (I don’t think Charlene is dumb, fyi) that they know what is up with their partner’s sexuality, it is a basic intuitive thing. Some people, especially an athlete, are very attuned to physicality. My guess is, Charlene knows Albert is more of a “princess” than she is. Maybe she or his staff even have a private joke about it. Maybe like Diana, she found this out before the wedding, that he isn’t really sexually interested in her, and that what shows here.
OMG, that was beyond awkward. Charlene didn’t show any animation at all — lay off the Botox, girl! — except when she was discussing or interacting with the swimming team.
CBS actually did quite the hatchet job on Albert; in the voiceover, they pointed out the two-decade age difference, as well as the rumors of her trying to escape before the wedding and the less-than-romantic honeymoon.
Pretty much the only thing they didn’t mention is the paternity tests that were rumored to have led to the couple spending their honeymoon apart, so I’m guessing CBS had to sign a form in advance promising they would avoid that topic. I’m surprised that Albert didn’t add more caveats, but I bet he will on a go-forward basis!

I was thinking the exact same thing! The interviewer was MISERABLE. Granted the prince and Charlene are awkward and low on charm, but really they didn’t have much to work with. A PR fail all around.
YES! The way she phrased her questions was so awkward and weird and even her gestures and mannerisms. I couldn’t put my finger on it but she was definitely adding to an already really strange interview!
They seem perfectly normal to me. I don’t know why anyone thinks they can tell if they love each other from this interview. Neither of them seem particularly interested in revealing intimacies which is to be expected. Why they even did this interview is a mystery.
I couldn’t care less about these two but I think behavior before a camera for public consumption can often be completely different from their behavior toward each other in private. They have been living together for quite a while.
I didn’t see anything bad in the interview either.. they were a bit awkward,she’s inexperienced and not surprisingly rather defensive when someone asks embarrassing questions about the supposed “scandal”. I didn’t expect them to hold hands and gaze into each other eyes during an interview – I bet that William and Kate wouldn’t either.

Yeah, funny about the swim team, I thought I would be seeing the women’s, but lucky Charlene, she get’s to inspect the MEN’s team. It’s a very nice view and I think she appreciates it! I think she should she should get a gig hosting teams from as many countries as she can. If it’s good to be the king, it should be better to be the princess, hee hee.
Charlene actually seems like a lovely person. She just seems really shy as well as very rough around the edges and not very refined. I think she’ll get better though, especially since it seems like she’s never getting away! It was nice of them to let her host the SA team. I think it shows that, despite her asshole husband, she’s trying to do her own thing and do as much as she can in her situation.

I think it was just a case of the PR people not giving a list of do & don’t questions and the fact that neither the Prince or Princess are good interview subjects. He seemed ill at ease with being interviewed and Charlene came across as shy & very unused to interviews. Understandable – think how nerve wracking job interviews are, and THEY aren’t televised.
He did seem a little impatient with her, but he’s grown up in the public eye so he needs to give her time to learn the ropes.
Again, get a stylist. I’ll be so glad when she finally get’s an enema and that constipated look leaves her face.
1) Albert is obviously the official spokesperson and PR man for the couple rolled into one;
2) It’s not exactly hatred that exudes from Charlene, more ridicule. You could tell she was holding back on some serious eye rolling!
3) Albert let Charlene host the S African team to appease her. OMG, some serious beefcake there! She is obviously in her element-wonder if she is also having the pleasure of a little on the side. If so, good for her! Serious cougaring, but since Al is 20 years old than Char, so she might as well pay it forward (or backward, depending on your point of view)!
4) Her face-she is fair skinned and the sun there is ruthless. Look at Stephanie-she looks like she’s pushing 60! Charlene may just be slathering on the sunscreen and trying to do whatever else necessary not to end up like Stephanie. Even with protection, I know my face gets puffy sometimes in the sun-used to tan nicely, but at 40, my skin rebelled!
i don’t get it. why did prince albert wait so long to get married if it was going to be a loveless marriage with a woman who obviously can’t stand him? and he also looks like he was slapped with the ugly stick, which is unfortunate considering how gorgeous his mother was. charlene’s outfits are some of the most unflattering i’ve seen in my life. there is really no excuse for her to be in the public eye and have access to all the money in the world (and probably the best stylists and the most exclusive designer garments) and still look this awful.

Poor Charlene. I hope she is allowed the turkey baster option. Lest we all forget, both her mum and dad sold her soul pretty early on. Hard to know what to do when your parents abandon you for the sake of vicarious fame and fortune. She strikes me as a devoted daughter, a quality that can often be advantageous, but NOT in this case.

And Kate, as her fans love to brag, is a University graduate so that must mean she’s “smart” to finish an Art degree, while Charlene is a high school dropout.
Charlene’s vocabulary and confidence may be stunted from not getting a formal education, so what’s Kate’s excuse?
Both of them display the qualities of people who live an indulged, jaded lifestyle with nothing to occupy their time but shopping and lazing about and no other interests but focusing on their vanity and social climbing. Both of them sound very “green”, like they live in a bubble and have no idea that things exist outside of said bubble. So when they’re asked questions not pertaining to superficial stuff, they’re stumped.
But hey, at least we’ve finally found the royal who gives Kate a run for her money when it comes to looking idiotic and awkward and saying cringe-worthy comments. We can’t compare Kate to royals like Princess Anne or Queen Rania, who actually give brilliant answers.
Charlene and Kate look like little children compare to the rest of the ‘commoners’ who married into royalty, and the many born-royals who sound very dignified, cultured, and knowledgeable.

Finally got on a computer that would play the video. Ai-yah. First of all, Albert’s American accent really skeeves me out. I mean, I know his mom was American, but she had that east coast/actress way of enunciating her words, whereas he sounds like John Wayne or something. Second, how hard is it to answer the question “what’s it like being a princess”? Ask me. Ask me now, I could totally answer that and sound all giddy and girlish just for the fun of it. Wow. really, wow.

Albert has always seemed weird to me. His difficulty with the language stems from the fact that Grace always spoke to him in English while Rainier spoke French. His poor brain has probably been affected. But compared to his sister Caroline, her English is far better, and she is definitely the brightest of the three. Poor Grace, she must be turning over in her grave.!!!
Here’s my two cents: Princess Grace said that Albert was a shy and obedient child, not the handful that his sisters were. She said she could beat her daughters like a gong and she still could not discipline them.
Rainier was supposedly domineering and heavy-handed. Tellingly, Albert waited until after his father died to start dating Charlene, even though he had met her years earlier. I think Albert was so intimidated by his father’s personality and expectations that he lacks self-confidence to this day and can barely speak in public. He cannot deal with intense scrutiny and criticism.
Charlene’s skills are in an athletic discipline, not in academics, so I’m not surprised that she’s not articulate in front of the cameras, but she is elegant and demure, which is becoming in a princess.
The princely couple had their wedding day ruined by vicious gossip, endlessly repeated by the media to this day, so they have been well and truly burned by the media. Why should they now reveal their thoughts and feelings to reporters?
I think these are two very shy people who do not want to lay their souls bare to reporters, who can and will use anything they say against them. Even after this taping, the interviewer stood in the palace courtyard and repeated the same ugly, worn-out rumors about the couple. Who accepts an entree into a royal palace and then bad-mouths their hosts? Badly done, that.
Leave them alone. I agree with you Carol it was very tacky of CBS News to talk about them then accept an in invitation to there palace. It is funny about a lot of you talking about them so badly but you take time to look them up I do not understand. People I do not like I do not look them up at all which makes sense. It seems like obsession to me by Celebitchy and a lot of you. Why even comment or look them up if you hate them so badly. At the end of the day it is just jealousy on the part of the media and a lot of other people. Who is to say if they love each other or not only they know that. They have been together for years and now that they are married everyone wants to talk and spread ugly lies and rumors about them. Albert is used to being talked about badly for his mistakes but not Charlene who I think is doing a fabolous job. South Africa is very pride of her and her accomplishments. She is not a high school drop out, was a teacher, an Olympic swimming champion. If you want to talk about her get your facts straight. She is a great ambassoder for South Africa, Special Olympics Ambassoder, and representative for Monaco who is very lucky to have her. Instead of always trying to constantly speak about rumors you have no proof of talk about the good they are doing. As for that swimmer she was so called flirting with she has known him since he was a little twelve year old boy when she was a swimmer herself so obviously she would feel comfortable around him and all the swimmers. A lot of them are personal friends of hers that have known her for years. You do not know either of them personally so why assume what you think they are like. He and all of the other swimmers only had nice things to say about her and Prince Albert about how sweet and caring they are and made them feel comfortable. They felt like they were spoiled eating great food and the great facilities they were allowed to train in. Even if they were falling all over each other or all smiles constantly people would still find something wrong because of Prince Albert’s past playboy lifestyle. People spread rumors about his mother and father also so rumors and gossip are expected. So what if he has children out of wedlock years before he got married so do the majority of men the only difference is that he is a royal. He is fifty I would expect him to have children. People are going to hate on them good or bad because they are just jealous and insecure themselves. Get A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She’s real, he’s fake. Poor woman must have been sucked into this situation and then it was too late by the time she realized what a robot he is.
It’s obvious she feels stuck in this crappy situation. I hope she plans her exist carefully and masterfully.
Princess Charlene, is doing what any good South African with a wicked sense of humor who is shy will do. Give you fuel for all these rumors, not a chance, as for what they do in private, this is the one way she will keep the world guessing until the cows come home, it is called in old fashion terms, giving the lot of “you” the run around! I am sure if you looked past all the fluff, you will discover she is a down to earth person, with no airs or graces. She definitely never expected to become a princess, the fact that she is one now, is a bonus. She will dress and do as she please, the only one who has to be happy with her, is her prince. She must be doing something right in private, because he is spoiling her to bits. They will have a baby when they ready, maybe somebody should give him the ” African Bush” trick for getting the little sperm to swim, no fertility doctors, just some good old fashion ice cubes on the crown jewels, will put the fear of… into them to swim and get the job done. LOL!!
This interview is just beyond ludicrous! Really I wonder why on earth did they sign up for it. The questions the journalists asked were nothing but the usual run-of-the-mill questions they (and not just they btw) have been asked well multiple times already.
So my idea is that Charlene wanted to make a point there… that she’s as miserable as they come. The fact the only word she could come up with on the marriage subject was ‘great’ and that she actually said out loud that she didn’t know how to answer the question about being a princess, both speak volumes to me. She did that on purpose if you ask me…
This said, this interview was like the awkward feast! He stammered all through and looked outrageously impatient and annoyed by her. As for Charlene, this interview oozes despise for him all through. I agree with those of you who said that it felt as if she was struggling not to spew on him.
I feel sorry for her… it’s so obvious she was forced into this marriage. However, unlike last year it seems to me now she’s not willing to keep up this sham anymore. She’s making her discomfort more obvious. Hope she goes all the way and ditches the jerkoff.
If there was any doubts that there is no love lost between these two this interview swept them all away. They look so terribly ill at ease with each other that you get the impression they can’t even bear to sit in the same room anymore. She very obviously despises him and he has no feelings whatsoever for her. I mean I do not expect them to be all over each other in public .. but wth, I’ve never seen them, for that matter, showing affection toward each other in any way ever since they got married. Before it was different I find.
What really struck me is how different she looks when the video switches to the pool side. She’s completely at ease there and laid back when talking to the swimmers. So she’s neither a sourpuss nor a shy person when she’s around other people but her husband.
Yesterday I was watching the Olympics and right after they played the South African hymn when Le Clos won the golden medal the camera panned on her. She was standing at the pool side and her face was still reddish and puffy from crying…. for joy of course! And she even hugged an athlete from the SA team who was there with her! It was such a nice scene to see her that way, so emotional and so truly herself for a change!!! Loved that 🙂 looked like a whole different person than when she’s with Albert. Really she should GTFO and go back to her life 🙂
I think Charlene is a lovely Princess and I think they played cat and mouse with the interviewer.They must be laughing now like mad about messing like that with the interviewer.Two of the Princesses South African swimmers won gold medals at the olympics.Well done Charlene for your share! Who could imagine that our golden boy pfelps would go down like a torpedo in the pool next to one of your swimmers!The two weeks in the palace could have made that difference.For Sure

Did you see that the video has DISAPPEARED from anywhere on the web? CBS video site still has a link to it, though it took me 20 min of running around and forcing the links to finally get to the page where the video used to play from, but now it throws a message ‘Page no longer exists’ in relation to the video only. The article, the preview video, and the summary are still there.
I’ve been checking the web for the last 4 days, and there is not a single place you can watch it from. Same happened to the link on this thread. It is impossibled to get it to play, and I’ve tried on 4 different computers and 2 mobiles.
I guess that means that ‘the palace’ pulled some major strings with CBS to actually have them physically erase it.
