Since it went over so well the first time I mentioned it, let’s do it all over again: Prince Harry and Duchess Kate seem really close these days. Especially close. Like, if you didn’t know who you were looking at, wouldn’t you assume that Kate and Harry were the married couple? I’m including new photos of Harry, William and Kate “waiting outside Buckingham Palace to receive the Olympic Torch as part of the final leg of the relay in London, England.” Kate is wearing bright blue skinny jeans, wedges and a flirtatious smile for her brother-in-law. She also seems to be ignoring her husband completely. Obviously, Harry is definitely a more interesting conversationalist, plus he’s just hot. But smile at yo’ husband too, girl! I’m also including some additional Waity ‘n Harry photos from earlier in the day yesterday, when the three young royals were opening up that sports complex. Once again… Harry and Kate seem so tight.
Is anyone else actually concerned? Do I think that Harry and Kate are actually having some torrid affair? Not really. But I am concerned about the optics, and I think the Palace should be too. There are already stories about “William is kind of over Kate already” and now we’ve got “Kate and Harry are always flirtatious with each other.” It doesn’t look good.
But maybe we should just focus on the continuing rumors that Harry has a new girlfriend? A week ago exactly, we were discussing the possibility that Prince Harry might have found himself a 23-year-old, blonde, beautiful, bluebood girlfriend/hook-up. Her name is Cressida Bonas, and her mother is some kind of famous 1960s “It Girl” who got married and divorced a bunch of times and she had a bunch of (now adult) kids. Cressida has a half-sister, Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, who briefly dated Prince William. It was believed that William was really, really into Isabella and she shot him down. Isabella is beautiful too – and Cressida looks a lot like her sister. Anyway, In Touch had a recap of what we already knew:

I can’t really blame Kate for responding to Harry the same way most women would. He seems to be a charming and laid back guy who enjoys life. He also seems to pay attention to her during a point in her life (rightly or wrongly) when she is getting constant criticism.
Lord knows if I were her I would beeline to Harry every chance I got. I’m sure he’s just a trusted friend that she knows won’t sell her out to the press and someone she can relax around. If he dislikes her he seems to keep it to himself and it makes me like him more that he takes the time to be kind to her – regardless of motive. It’s just the same irritating myth that men and women can’t be friends without sex involved.

This is the vibe I get, too. Or, maybe Will gets kind of stressed out/serious during big events and isn’t fun to talk to and hang out with. Harry doesn’t have that stress, so he’s more fun. If you married the one brother it makes sense to me that you would like the other one enough to be friendly, especially if you’ve known him for going on 10 years.

It shows Kate employing her usual MO (plaster big grin onto face, lean in towards her prop/prey, and point to something so at least the photos of the event make it appear she’s not, in fact, being ignored or barely tolerated … namely by her own husband…) on Harry, and Harry refusing to have any of it.
In the video (you have to scroll through tons of photos to get to it, but it’s worth watching. The really good part starts at around 1:29), Harry very clearly shows his dislike of Kate when he ignores her persistant attempt to engage him (laughing, leaning, pointing, etc.), then abruptly cuts her off, only to exchange an exasperated/mocking look with William.

It was actually pretty shocking to see how blatant his dismissal was, and I found myself feeling bad for Kate. Whatever he said, it wiped the huge grin off her face, and her expression went from happy to hard and pissed in an instant. I’m assuming that’s the one you guys watched because there’s absolutely no way you could have seen the DM version and come away thinking everything was fine. Seriously. The exchange was that abrupt/rude on Prince Harry’s part. There’s no other way to interpret what happened other than to say he completely ignored Kate’s attempts to engage him — talking and pointing to the crowd — then finally cut her off with one word and turned away without another look.

Will is the future King. The standard for him is different then his brother. Harry has a much more safe existence. He has always been able to be free. So that is the way. And besides I remember Will being more care free when he was younger. He has a big responsibility facing him. So boring to me is RESPONSIBLE in his position.

I can vouch for “skeletal looking” – when she was in Calgary last year, I saw her up close when she came to Stampede and she was actually quite frail looking. A far cry from what she was pre-engagement (i.e. slim and healthy looking).

There is a difference between what you wear for private vs public duties. If you have casual friday at a stuffy institution which the RF is but let’s compare it to a bank, you might wear jeans, you certainly wouldn’t wear jeggings. It’s inappropriate.
No one is saying she can’t wear jeans or jeggings but she doesn’t seem to know the difference between what she can wear privately in her own time and publicly whilst carrying out duties. if she wants to show off her legs, skinny jeans are more appropriate for this situation. BTW – Notice that neither prince is in jeans so that should have been a clue when she left the house with William this morning.
What @Angelic 20 and many others point out but which gets lost in all the ‘ha8ers’ accusations is that Kate doesn’t dress appropriately for many occasions. She needs a dresser and a tailor stat. Her skirts are too short, the dresses whilst cute are not tailored to suit her body shape, her heels are too high, her hair is everywhere. or she chooses the wrong outfit for the occassion – see the McQueen at the riots or these jeggings or that super expensive cartier necklace. These are easily fixable things. It’s interesting that the only times she gets it right is when one of the design houses eg McQueen and Jenny Packham, known for their trademark tailoring skills, is involved in dressing her because they do a head to toe look for her or possibly advise what accessories should go with the outfit.
In cases like these too tight jeggings or when her skirts have been to short or we get a shot of her thong, it makes many people cringe at her refusal to hire a dresser who can advise on these situations. She can’t control scuzzy photographers taking pictures of her crotch or thongs but she can control her clothing choices to prevent these photographs and to limit the criticism.
And these images aren’t just for our consumption, they are beamed worldwide to liberal and ceonservative audiences who see our representative dressed like this. Some of the realms are super conservative eg What works in UK is not what works in Jamaica or canada or Australia or India etc.
She appears to only care for her appearance, so this is a consistent arm candy fail.
Everybody in the public eye has a dresser or stylist, even the Queen. So why can’t she? All those years she’s been shopping and she didn’t pick up any tips about what not to wear?? or how to accesorise her clothes?? She only has to look across the street to Samcam at no 10 to see how conservative public dressing is done.

They are all living in that fishbowl together, and it’s a tight-knit circle. They really only seem to have each other to help keep themselves sane, so I hope it’s innocent and simple fun.
I get on extremely well with both my sister-in-laws. If you took photos of us talking, you might make the same assumption. But the truth is that they’re like sisters to me and we just get on really well.
If Kate and Harry had any sexual feelings for each other, they would try to hide it as much as possible when in public. It’s human nature. The fact that they’re so open and friendly with each other in public suggests that their relationship is merely a friendly sibling type of relationship.

I haven’t read the comments yet, but what is it with this over the top perma-grin Waity has almost always plastered over her face? Is everything a joke to her? Is everyone she encounters hilariously funny? She seems to be constantly amused whether it is grave remembrance or church. And she is the only one in every pic who looks this way. What is wrong with her?
By the way, Waity looks over all ugly. As in, nothing is pleasing to the eye.
The pictures are really misleading.
If you watch video of the event, it’s VERY clear that Harry is trying to keep his distance from Kate while SHE attempts to engage him. In fact, at one point a widely grinning Kate leans in towards Harry and tries to point something out (à la similarly misleading Jubilee balcony photos), and he outright ignores her! When she continues despite his obvious disinterest, he finally abruptly cuts her off, turns away, and exchanges this raised eyebrow, kind of mocking look with Will. Kate’s face instantly deflates, and her big goofy grin is replaced by a really hard, angry expression. It’s kind of startling to see, actually.

I’m not at all a Kate Middleton fan, but I feel pretty sympathetic towards her during public events. It’s pretty obvious she’s not well-liked within the Royal Family, and videos frequently tell a completely different story than photographs of the same events. In many of the videos it’s clear she’s being ignored or barely tolerated by others — and I feel particularly awful for her because of how often “others” includes her own husband. I can just imagine the burning, sinking feeling of humiliation Kate must feel in her gut during these very public displays of disinterest.
Kate proved she knew a thing or two about image/media manipulation years ago, and it’s no wonder she’s now attempting to put a different public spin on her private humiliation. This is the reason behind her wild grins and tonsil bearing, open-mouthed laughs — “I’m not feeling isolated and humiliated; I’m SO happy and interested!” When Prince William is busy clenching his jaw and ignoring his wife, she responds to his slight by instigating conversation with whoever else is around — and that is often Prince Harry. She’ll plaster a big smile on her face, lean her body in towards Harry’s (or the Queen’s or Camillia’s or whoever she’s chosen to latch on to) and point to something in the crowd, while the cameras go “snap, snap, snap!”
This is her one consolidation. At least pictures of events will give the public the impression she’s loved and wanted and embraced by the Royal Family instead of barely tolerated in public, and who knows in private. Because, I mean, look! She’s laughing and leaning in and pointing something out to Harry, Her Majesty, Camilla, etc. which proves how intimate and close and loved she is by them. But the videos show otherwise. THEY are never leaning in and pointing things out to HER. They often don’t even meet her eyes, and only their heads are turned in her direction.
Anyway. There’s nothing going on with Kate and Harry. If anything, I think we might finally be starting to see some cracks in the Royal Family’s thus far polite neutrality towards Kate. Because again, if you watch the video it’s obvious Harry knows what her game is, and isn’t willing to play along anymore.

Well, my take is that if we don’t like her why should the royal family? At least they are being polite but why should they pretend to embrace her? On a basic level, why should they like her if they do not? DoLittle made her bed all by her little old self now let her lie in it. Besides, I think she is like granite, also venal and self-absorbed, so has no sense of shame. But she does look to us to play the victim card.
As for William, he is a bad husband and he would be a bad husband to anyone, IMO. He is too full of himself to think about the needs and wishes of someone else. After all, he will be King, so we all must bow down to that fact.
@petitmal & @Hmmmm – couldn’t agree more. She learnt how to position herself for pictures so the resultant pictures look like she’s getting on with everyone. Too bad for her we have video and can see her game.
That said, I also feel pity when I see the video becauseit is so clear she is not a welcome addition to the family. And this is a family who are trained from birth to control their public behaviour/body language. If they can’t be publicly polite or put on their game face for her, what must tHey be like in private. Still, she did make her bed….
I have to say though that she’s not as passive as people would believe. She’s had a pr team promoting her for years. Her ammo is public sympathy. Any story about her always casts her as the victim of everyone else, but she learnt that lesson from Diana – she’s admitted to studying Diana. Playing the public sympathy card is the only way to beat the royal family.
I’m sorry, LAK (and also to petitemal and hmmmm) I do agree with your posts quite a lot, but this time it is getting out of hand. Do you really mean that William, Harry and the rest of the RF are fed up with Kate, after 1 year of marriage, after William knew her for 10 years? If that was the case, it would say a lot about the RF and William, but nothing about Kate.
It is okay to say that her behaviour at certain events was inappropriate, but saying that the video clearly showed that she is not welcomed in that family is, sorry, big BS. I watched the video and it shows 3 (and more) people at an official duty, acting totally normal. If that family wouldn’t welcome Kate, why is she there then? Did she sort of blackmail them into the marriage? Many people, wealthier than Kate’s family, tried for years to get into the RF and they were refused.

@Dragon – My comment wasn’t specifically about the Olympic video which i haven’t watched. I should have made that very clear.
However, i agree with everything else that @Petitemal and @Hmmm have expressed. The videos of these events [from which selective and edited pictures are posted] always show a different picture to the happy welcomed Kate narrative.
It isn’t just one or two people in the family. It is all of them, including the Queen. Only Camilla and Harry show her any public politeness and even then usually because she is talking to them, not the other way round.
If you watch the videos, you will also notice that any exchanges tend to be quite brief, but also that she positions herself and grins in such a way that resultant photo moment looks positive and happy.
This has been the case for a very long time. I personally first noticed it as Zara’s wedding.
The sympathy victim card has been very clear long before her engagement.

I have wondered if her exaggerated facial emoting is because she really is for the most part disinterested with whatever/whomever is around her, so she puts mucho effort into looking like she feels happy/excited/engaged. All she cares about are the cameras, and she ends up overacting/acting goofy because the feeling isn’t genuine. Also, I can’t see Harry having any sexual attraction to her. He seems like he wants someone professionally accomplished and intellectually/verbally fast as a gun.
Oh geez, seriously??? I finally watched that video. They’re all obviously trying to figure out what they are expected to do now that the torch business is over. Kate looks around, says something to Harry, Harry looks around, Kate says something to William and then it looks like William says something along the lines of “I guess we should go back inside” and then “we should wave” and they wave. Nobody’s cutting off anyone, nobody has a “hard, angry expression.” They’re just wondering what to do next. Case closed.
It’s true. Waity is ALWAYS the one who is trying, trying, trying too hard. Trying to get others to like her. Trying to make it seem as if they are involved with her. There are few photos of the opposite happening, unless it’s Harry just being nice.

This is what pulls at my heart strings. She is clearly talking to Harry, who is ignoring/not listening. He just turns, says something that looks like ‘come on’ but then makes that expression to William. Meanwhile her face……..!!!
Look, the RF might be a lot of things, but they are not idiots. They had so much trouble with Diana and also with Fergie so they would make damm sure something like that would not happen again. They all knew Kate for a very long time and if they were fed up with her in any way or be unsure, if she fits into this familiy, William would not have married her.
@dragon- I agree entirely with your assessment except for the RF knowing Kate. They knew she was PW’s girlfriend but didn’t necessarily know her properly. The Queen met her for the first time in 2008 at Autumn & Peter’s wedding. It wasn’t a one 2 one meeting. She also met Chelsy Davy etc. The next meeting was a year later. Prince Harry gave an interview a month before the wedding saying ‘he didn’t know Kate but was looking forward to doing so’. In the same interview he said ‘the rest of the family didn’t think a wedding would ever take place.’I don’t think he was being malicious or nasty, simply stating fact. The other thing I always say about Kate isn’t that she is unworthy etc just that she needs to pull her socks up and stop using pr to present herself as something she isn’t. There is also a concerted effort to make her appear to be BFFs with all the family and especially Harry. I didn’t start out thinking this was a lie. And for her sake I hope it isn’t. I started to doubt it after seeing videos via news programming. At first I thought could be explained away by protocol. Unfortunately, they can’t.I am aware that people can edit the videos too in order to suit their particular agenda, so I always look at videos from news sources eg itnsource or bbc, and if possible live rather than recorded. The Queen ignoring Kate on that Jubilee barge was incredible to see. She talked to everyone including Camilla, but not a single word, not even to acknowledge her, to Kate.4hrs worth of live recording and not one word. William’s body language has been changing over the year. He was affectionate after the wedding and during Canada. The photos and videos match up. And more importantly, Kate isn’t doing that OTT grin, point, lean thing she does. They stand very close together, just like PC and Camilla.
Btw- there are loads of examples of the other royals being affectionate. Even Charles & diana in the years when their marriage was working. There is a video of Charles goosing Diana whilst they are carrying out an engagement with Diana blushing and giggling in response. The idea that royals can’t touch is a media (with palace encouragement)fiction that was used to explain why C&D didn’t touch and appeared remote to each other. The marriage died so quickly and of course we didn’t have glut of media photos that many people don’t remember the years of affection between them. The rate at which William’s public affection for Kate has cooled is disquieting. I am not one to ill wish a person’s relationships so I hope that this change in him is really due to his being forced to take up the reigns of public duties finally.

What is very clear and unchanging in the pictures and videos is that Kate adores William. Taken together with what is known about their courtship, she will never divorce him. If it came to a separation/divorce, he will be the one to leave the relationship.
From a general royal family pr prespective, these two are stuck with each other. It would be a pr disaster for them to divorce without a public effort to demonise one or the other. If it does come down to that, it will play out like The Duke and Duchess of Kent, who are separated, but not publicly.
The press want this marriage to work. Until jubilee there were plenty of media stories about what a super fairy tale the relationship was. After the jubilee fiasco, the narrative swung to Kate is BFF’s with Harry and HM. Something that is being emphasised over and over instead of the previous William loves Kate so much stories.

Weren’t Harry, William and Kate sharing a flat together and didn’t Kate make fun of them like the two (Harry and William) were marking their shoes with their initials so they could tell them apart? So Harry must have known Kate quite well before she married William. Do you really believe that two brothers being so close as they are, one of them would not know the girlfriend of more than 5 years of the other one?
I’m very reluctant to judge the quality of a marriage even if the two are close friends of mine, because it has happened quite often that a marriage is on the rocks, which came as a surprise also to very close friends. So how could I judge the quality of a marriage from press reports? Close friends of mine were shocked when my marriage ended, they didn’t see it coming.
As for the Queen, I have seen a few pictures where she shares a good laugh with Kate, so she must like her a little bit.
We will see what the future shows. 😉
No the RF did not know Waity that well. In fact William didn’t ask for the Queen’s approval like he was supposed to, he told her 2 hours before the announcement when the press had already been called.
Had the Queen known his intention I tnink she would have nixed it.

what you say cannot be true, Kate was several times and her mom at least once invited to festivities normally reserved for the inner circle of the RF. So the Queen knew perfectly well and her grandson would definitely not get engaged without the Queen knowing this well in advance.
I watched that video and I didn’t see anything near a big goofy flirting grin. She is clearly asking him a question, you barely see her teeth, no grin. Neither did the big grin die when he turned away. You need to look up projection in the dictionary. Everything you are seeing in those vids says more about you than anything at all about the state of the royals.
I never noticed before how Kate’s upper lip disappears when she smiles. Very Frank Burns.
I dislike the pictures where she appears to be guffawing. And there are kind of a lot of them. What is always so damned funny? I don’t want her to look grouchy (I’m looking at you, Camilla), but the wide open-mouthed, horsey laugh isn’t doing her any favors or making her appear fun. It just looks forced.

Kinda off-topic but I went to the Daily Mail site, couldn’t get the video but looked at all the Olympic photos. They are great! The AbFab ladies and the Little Britain guy – everyone looks terrific. And Sophie and Edward’s little boy is so cute. I’ve never seen him before. But back on-topic, I think Kate’s jeans are cute. If you’ve got the figure, why not? As for she and Harry, I agree with most here. They’re just buddies. I doubt if anyone in the top tier of the RF has many people they can trust, and Kate can obviously trust Harry and vice-versa.

From what little of the Opening Ceremony I saw (live stream), Wills’ and Kate’s body language was bad. Their legs were crossed away from one another; she arched a single brow (once that I saw); and if side-eyes could kill, Wills would’ve been dead.

William looks all uptight and aloof in a lot of pics from this event, and last night in a bunch of shots QEII looked really out of sorts and distant (far off stares, fiddling with her nails). It made me wonder if they’re freaked out about his health. Was he at any Olympic stuff yet?
