Oscar nominee Michael Clarke Duncan passed away at the age of 54

So sad. Oscar nominee and lovable gentle giant Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away at the age of 54. Duncan had a major heart attack in July, and he was found unconscious by his girlfriend Omarosa Manigault (yes, THAT Omarosa). After the July heart attack, Michael was in the hospital, where Omarosa and her family stayed with him and tried to help him recover. But it was not to be. So sad:

Michael Clarke Duncan, star of such movies as “The Green Mile” and “The Whole Nine Yards,” passed away this morning. He was 54.

According to our sources, his passing came very suddenly. We’re told his fiancee, Omarosa Manigault, was with him in his hospital room in Los Angeles and left for a short period of time. When she returned … he had died.

Our sources say Omarosa’s mother was with him when he passed.

Duncan’s rep tells TMZ the actor never fully recovered from the myocardial infarction he suffered on July 13. As TMZ first reported, Omarosa found Duncan in cardiac arrest and performed CPR and was able to resuscitate him before calling 911.

The rep tells us, “[Omarosa] Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date.”

Duncan was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of John Coffey in “The Green Mile.” He worked as a bodyguard for celebrities like Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J, and Notorious B.I.G. before he got his break.

[From TMZ]

I was looking through Michael’s IMDB page to get a sense of his career – and I was surprised to see just how much the man worked. He worked all the time, on many different kinds of projects. Apparently his deep, beautiful voice was a constant fixture on video games and in cartoons, and his acting work is varied between straight dramas (like his Oscar-nominated role in The Green Mile), action films, comedies and television work. One of his closest friends in the industry? Bruce Willis! Bruce and Michael worked together on four films. Also: Michael was a cat lover. Which really, really breaks my heart. UGH. This is so sad. Michael leaves a massive – literal and figurative – hole in this world. Our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and loved ones.

I was so sad to hear this. It was just a few months ago that he went with Craig Ferguson, Mila Kunis, and Rashida Jones to Scotland for Craig’s show. You can tell they all had a great time together.

I thought about that as soon as I saw the news. He and Craig seemed to be good friends and he was on the show often.

I loved, loved, loved this guy. Good actor, amazing voice and great role selection. I’m going to miss him terribly.

RIP Michael Clarke Duncan. I’ll never forget that scene in Armageddon when you were slapping your ass in animal print underwear without laughing at the sheer exhuberance of it.

A big man and a big life.

  16. Miss Kiki says:

Can someone in the know tell me about Omarosa? I’m getting the impression that she’s quite notorious.
I know Google is my friend but I’m already doing the bare minimum at work today and before I know it I’ll be on Youtube watching videos of Channing Tatum. Thank you in advance.

    • PrettyTarheel says:

She was a contestant on that reality show put out by Trump (My cat’s hairball with an orange tan), and was wicked on it. She built on that to gain fame/notoriety, but it seems like that was more of a persona. She and MCD seemed pretty happy and stable, and she has been nicer over the last few years.

    • Kim says:

She was a bitch on tv but nice in person. Her brother was murdered last year and now she has to bury her fiancee .RIP MCD

  17. Barrett says:

I just got the great opportunity to watch Gree Mile for the first time this year. I was so impressed. So sad! Too young!

  18. ShanKat says:

This suuuucks! He was such an incredibly special person. And in person…so gorgeous it was like he wasn’t real. A truly huge loss. And…kittehs? Just boooooooo.

  19. Rumorhasit says:

What a classy man, that smile of his in that last pic with Omorosa is beautific. She must have thrilled him. If he had to be taken so young, at least he found that kind of love, happiness and support in his life, before he went. He just seems like the kind of guy who deserved all of it. His booming voice and talent will surely be missed.

  20. Bellabumbum says:

I didn’t watch Omarosa on the reality show, but I know her reputation. I live in the DC/Northern Virginia Area where she is from originally. There was a great vintage clothing store here. The lady that owned the store told me that Omarosa got some of her outfits there and that she was a really nice lady. Maybe she played a good villain on TV? I’d like to think MCD chose a nice woman to be by his side. He will be missed.

  21. Green_Eyes says:

I loved watching Mr. duncan’s films & interviews. Great actor (had me in tears in TGM he was that good) & in his interviews his geniune warmth & personality shined thru. Deepest sympathy to his family, family to be,his fiancee Omarosa, and close friends. Saddens me such a tragic loss and so young… Rest In Peace Mr. Michael Clark Duncan.

  22. valleymiss says:

I’ve not seen The Green Mile, but MCD was great in The Whole Nine Yards. (That’s when he worked with Bruce Willis.) What a shame all around. πŸ™ Rest in peace, Michael.

  29. Melissa says:

I was just thinking about him yesterday. I’d heard about his massive heart attack and then was thinking that I hadn’t heard anything about how we was doing since then. How awful – he seemed like such a nice man. Wasn’t he in a Bones spinoff show recently? RIP, Michael.

    • SLM says:

Yes, the show was called The Finder. MCD was great in it, and my husband and I were really bummed that it wasn’t renewed. I’m grateful for his contribution and always-warm smile.

  30. jess says:

54 seems to be a tough age for men. I’ve known several men (including my dad) who passed away at 54. Sad.

    • Hakura says:

I’m so sorry to hear your father passed at such a young age. It really seems true that it’s a ‘cursed’ age, especially where heart issues are concerned.

  31. Isa says:

This is so sad. He was a great actor and like someone else mentioned such a big teddy bear. I loved his deep voice.

  32. RHONYC says:

we were watching ‘Friday’ over the weekend, one of our faves, and couldn’t believe we never recognized a young Micheal Clarke Duncan in the scene where DeBo stole dude’s bike! 😯

he was on the screen for a second on the left, but it made our hearts glad to see him. check 0:55

    That is all.

  37. Violet says:

I was looking at his Wikipedia page and ten years ago he gained 40 pounds for a role, bulking up to 330! I can’t help but think that took a lasting toll on his body πŸ™

    May he rest in peace.

    • rep says:

4 years ago five friends and i were dining at houstons and bud table was across from ours. I spoke to him, told him i was celebr ating my my birthday. He was very friendly, and after our meal the waitress told us that mr duncan had quietly picked up the tan for everyone. So incredibly generous. Never forget that.

  38. mln89 says:

so horrible. he always looked so robust, healthy, and youthful to me. i didn’t even know he was in his 50’s. either way, he was too young to die. i wonder what caused his heart issues. R.I.P.

  39. holly hobby says:

RIP. I’ll always remember him as the Car boss or whatever you called that role in Talledega Nights. He read, with a straight face, Judy Blume’s, Are You There God, it’s Me, Margaret.

    Very sad.

  40. SleepyJane says:

He had such a charismatic way about him. May he rest in peace.

Poor Omarosa. It shouldn’t be allowed for someone to have to experience so much tragedy so soon(her brother’s death, now this).

  41. Barbara says:

His voice made me melt every time. One of my friends interviewed him on his radio show and said that he never met a more likable guy. I’m heartbroken over this one and very sorry to Omarosa and the entire family. Now he can melt the hearts of Angels.

  42. apsutter says:

What a bummer. All the nice ones die young, it seems. All I can think of is him singing “Last Dance” in Talladega Nights. Funny, funny man.

  43. A says:

I read a lot of film blogs, and pretty much everyone said he was just the definition of nice, classy guy. He was a really good actor too…The Green Mile was fantastic (of course, the Oscar nom shows that) but he was a pretty good comedian type also. Too young. Feel a lot of sympathy for Omarosa…She lost her brother, then found Michael collapsed and apparently save his life with CPR…only to have Michael die a few months later. They were together for a few years too, and both looked very happy.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

The CPR part makes it that much more sad, doesn’t it? I knew they were an item, but I had no idea that they had a child, as well. With all of the nice things you hear about him, it sounds like the child is going to miss out on a lot of years with a good father. Very sad. The potato skin fell out of my mouth when I saw this on the news last night.

  44. Ruffian9 says:

It seems like he was a lovely man, with a beautiful smile. Gone far too soon. RIP.

  45. The Other Katherine says:

I’m not that affected by most celebrity deaths, but this makes me sad. This guy just made your heart melt, on and off screen. He was a good ‘un, and he will be missed.

  46. bagladey says:

Did MCD and Omarosa have a baby?

  47. misstrishm says:

This is sad. He was hilarious in an episode of two and a half men a few years back. I really enjoyed his work no one can make me cry like him. RIP Mr. Duncan

  48. Amanda G says:

Really good actor. I’m shocked and saddened by this!

  49. GoodCapon says:

    RIP πŸ™

  50. skuddles says:

    So sad. RIP Mr Duncan.

  51. Jayna says:

They just played an interview with him. He was so nice and really had a zest for life. He was madly in love with Omarosa in that interview, talked about when you meet the one. He said he almost blew it when he saw her in the grocery store and thought she was stunning. He went up to her and said you’re the mean girl on the Apprentice. It didn’t go so well. I guess he smoothed it over.

I hope she doesn’t turn this into a selling her story everwhere for interviews. I have no doubt she loved him, but I don’t trust her. She’s beautiful, but she’s always been about making a buck off anything. Did he have any children?

I think Toni Braxton had the same thing. It really weakens the heart permanently when you get it. It’s like an infection I think that ends up affecting the heart muscle. I will have to read up on it.

  52. Hakura says:

This actually made me tear up.

Nothing left to say that hasn’t been already, but still. Huge condolences to his friends, family, & especially his child. That just makes a sad event so much worse.

At least the footprint he left on this earth ensures that he’ll always be remembered as a lovely human being.

  53. orion70 says:

    πŸ™

The role I most remember him in is in The Island.

  54. Belle says:

So sad to hear of Michael’s passing. I was surprised to read the comments about he and Omarosa having a baby, as I can’t seem to find any more info on it?? There were some rumors of her being pregnant some time ago, but I couldn’t find anything beyond that. No confirmation of a pregnancy that I could find… no articles about the birth of a baby, and even now with MCD’s death… no mention of a child?

Kind of thinking she was never pregnant, or if she was, maybe she lost the baby and it was kept out of the media?
