I’ve mentioned before that Christina Hendricks gets an extraordinary amount of love from the UK. She gets a lot of press here in America, of course, but over the past few years, it seems like the British press and the UK viewers of Mad Men are simply Hendricks-crazy. She has become an icon of a certain kind of voluptuous, old-school-type of feminine ideal. I think Christina must get lots of offers to appear on the British magazines too, because she tends to do more UK press than American. So here is Christina’s Glamour UK cover for the November issue. What is she promoting? God knows. But she looks pretty in the photo shoot. Some highlights from the interview:
The red carpet ordeal: “You get everyone out there judging your dress and your hair and your lipstick, and you just think, ‘Let me get dressed up and go to a nice party. Why do you have to be so judgmental?’ But usually, once you’re past the red carpet and you get inside, you have a nice time.”
She loves a good kaftan: “I wear kaftans at home – they’re comfortable but still feminine and pretty.”
On Mad Men: “It’s completely changed my career. Instead of people wondering who you are, you walk in and they say, “I love your show”. It’s a nice way to start an audition. I hate to ever think of it finishing. I have concerns about finding something I’m going to fall in love with as much.”
During her haitus from Mad Men: “I’ve got a couple of things lined up for the next break, and I hope to enjoy my home and husband. Just keep going, try to live a happy, normal life, and find a great job.”
Her husband Geoffrey Arend, and how she knew he was The One: “It just became very obvious to me, I was smitten. He makes me laugh and he’s my best friend and I would always rather be with him than not, so those are pretty good indications.”
Yeah, she’s not a super-exciting interview. She never was, and maybe she never will be. Perhaps she’s one of those actresses who actively tries to be boring so that she can play a wide range of characters without the audience feeling like they “know” her a specific way? Or maybe she’s just particularly un-dramatic for an actress. Whatever. Boobs. That’s all that matters, right?
As for her comment about “judgmental” people who yell at her for what she’s wearing on the red carpet… two things. One, yes, Christina has had to deal with more crap from so-called style people because she is not a typical size-zero starlet. So that I can understand. Two, maybe we wouldn’t be so “judgmental” if she hired a stylist who knew what the f–k they were doing for a buxom, pale redhead? Because her current gear is NOT working.
The pink dress is McQueen, by the way. It’s really pretty on her!

She needs a stylist! A big part of the problem is that her clothing during outings is too busy. Her body can do all the talking so sleek, simple styles look best on her. She wears too many ruffles and creases. Also, her hair tends to be styled too messily too. Again, her face is beautiful so she doesn’t need busy hair. And if she leave her hair down, she needs more lift at the roots and something sleeker.
People judge her because she puts her giant ta-tas, her dim witted face, and her crappy fashion sense out there for all to see. This is what she wants!
aww honey, if your style was better then we wouldn’t judge. Learn to dress the girls..
The pink dress is gorgeous on her, and the hair style looks very sophisticated.
Me likey!
They judge because she looks TERRIBLE!! I mean she dresses like a freaking drag queen. And because of her obsession with her boobs, I no longer think of her as an actress but a big boob clown.
HIRE A STYLIST!!!!
You sound like you have boob envy.
I don’t that every single time a woman criticizes something about another woman it’s due to jealousy, I really don’t. The question was posed, so it was answered. Come on, her boobs are kind of the only thing she talks about and it can get tedious for someone to hear it all the time, whatever the cup size. I think she’s heart-stoppingly beautiful, but I also think that anyone who can ask why professional gossips and fashion critics are so judgemental about red carpet wear has suffered acute brain damage. And if she doesn’t know why those people are judgemental of her personal style choices it’s time for a candlelight vigil.
Beautiful woman, overbearing/over-bare-ing style.
The way her boobs are always over-trussed-up looks painful and very distracting to her overall look. I can’t help but think she really needs a reduc. She could remove a lb from each and still be very buxom.
The orange dress and the pink dress for the magazine photoshoot look great on her- proof that if she had a great stylist, we wouldn’t be so hard on her for choice of dresses.
This ^^^^
She is gorgeous.
It is clear that she needs a stylist. If she actually has one, she needs to hire another.
Agree. She’s so pretty and could do so much better with people who know how to dress up her type of body. Maybe that’s why people judge her style. Because she has such a potential—beautiful face, hair, skin and body (plus money to afford a stylist)—but not doing much with it.
Her facial features remind me of Cate Blanchette.
Now, if she could only class up her style in that manner too…..
I don’t necessarily think she’s the great actress everyone makes her out to be…to have won the Emmy and all that, but she seems so sweet and genuine.
The thing is, if she is dressed by a good stylist (on Mad men and some magazine photo shoots) she is one of the most gorgeous women on the planet. Sadly, she is often dressed and styled very badly and thats why she is criticised so much. Okay, some of it might be because she isn’t a size zero, but a lot of it comes from people who know how great she could look and make all those size zero girls desperately wish they had her curves but instead she turns up dressed so unflatteringly so often. Seriously, on mad men Joan always makes me think that she could be my fence-jumper (the person you would go gay for) and then I see Christina on the red carpet and am instantly reassured that I am completly heterosexual.
Huh. I like those pics, maybe the Brits know how to style and shoot a pale redhead better than the American magazines who are used to crazy tans? I don’t know, it just occurred to me because for once she doesn’t look washed out. Love the pink dress.
I don’t think it’s really about her ‘style’ people are being judgmental about, but rather how she has yet to find the perfect dresses that actually compliments/showcases her boobies well.
Her makeup has always been decent (IMO) and some of the pieces she wears aren’t so bad but her boobs are almost always all over the place.
I judge her “style” to often be unflattering to her body type. She has giant boobs in garments not big enough to properly contain them, The over-spill in the second dress here isn’t very attractive. She’s also a bit full in the tummy to look her best in a tightly belted outfit. Part of it is that her bosom is so big that in order to balance in high heels, she has to stand sway-back, which, from the side, makes her stomach look bigger than it probably is. A good stylist would be her bff.
Hourglass figure…giant boobs and a tiny head
The reason people are judgemental is because she always looks like a lumpy unmade bed and she CAN’T EVER GET HER HAIR RIGHT!
She really is one beautiful woman very sexy !
I love this woman and do not give a crap about her stylist. She’s gorgeous.
Well, she has huge boobs and she cant hide them so she might as well play them up. Suffocating them doesn’t help. Kat Denning’s Emmy dress comes to mind, but frankly, CH is stuck in a rut because her boobs are soooo much larger, she can look trashy very easily, and I say this as a buxom girl myself.
I agree, get a great stylist and if you have one, fire them.
I love how the media goes on and on about her curves yet they photoshop her so heavily in every photo shoot.
I completely agree. This woman is SO beautiful. How they manage to make her look so frumpy most of the time is beyond me. Honestly, she could rock jeans and a t-shirt, but they manage to make her look sucked in and uncomfortable or just downright matronly most of the time.
It’s not that hard to make a gorgeous woman look good, y’all. Seriously.
That orange and pink dress are perfect looks on her – gorgeous and celebrate her amazing body. More of that lovely Christina! 🙂
