Here are some photos from last night’s LA premiere of Cloud Atlas. I kind of want to see this completely bizarre movie, just because I think it’s probably going to be a total mindf—k and sometimes I enjoy those kinds of movies. The film stars an assortment of talent including Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, and many, many more, all of whom play multiple characters within the intertwined storylines. I’ll be covering some of the dudes at the premiere in another post. For now, I just want to talk about Halle Berry and her date, Olivier Martinez… and I’ll talk about Susan Sarandon too, at the end.
Halle wore a metallic Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress to the premiere. I mean… she looks beautiful. She ALWAYS looks beautiful. But she has worn versions of this dress 20 million times before over the course of the past 15 years. This is one of her go-to looks – a strapless cocktail dress, beautifully tailored, with interesting earrings. You could say that she definitely knows what looks good on her, and she totally does. But it gets boring.
As for Halle and Olivier… you know my thoughts on the matter. I think she keeps him in a dungeon. I think he’s afraid to break up with her, lest she go crazy on him and wage a “HE’S RACIST” campaign against him. He does look less squinty here, and he looks good with that haircut. But I still feel bad for the guy. What does their body language say? Does it say “sex dungeon” or just “dungeon”?
I’m also including a photo of Susan Sarandon at the premiere – she looked beautiful. Remember how Susan admitted that she had gotten tweaked? I think she should be The Face of “Responsible Tweaking”. She had a great surgeon, she didn’t go in to try to look 30-something, she didn’t go too far.

If he gets any squintier, he may as well sew his eyes shut. Halle is physically close to perfection and thus a fine example of not judging a book by its cover. Or something.
Susan Sarandon gets hotter perpetually, somehow…but almost never dresses well.

Halle is physically very pretty, but have a look at those eyes – there’s a crazy control freak in there.

I have to say, Halle Berry looks stunning here – hair, dress, shoes, makeup, gorgeous actually.
Her hair, shoes and makeup ARE a win but that dress is at least a size too small-if not two sizes too small.
Wear a dress that fits. No one can see the size label but you, but we can all see the strain of the material across your stomach.

I still think he is using her for visibility. Gets invited to all the good things. But needs a big movie, to move on.

And I agree. I mean, how many of us had heard of him before he found Halle? He has to at least have an inkling of an idea that this woman is trouble. The benefits are just still outweighing the negative at this point.
@Erinn, I don’t know about others but I knew who he was before Hallie because he was in Unfaithful (2002) with Diane Lane and Richard Gere and I loved that movie, he was very hot in it. Now not so much. I mentioned below that he doesn’t seem to do much of anything these days though. I think the movie they did together went straight to dvd, lol.

@ hoya chick: I really liked that movie, too, but I mainly remember Olivier Martinez for dating Kylie Minogue for a couple of years.
I also really loved A Perfect Murder with Michael Douglas, Viggo Mortensen and Goop, which has a similar theme.

Does she ever not look gorgeous? I love her in this dress and the silver on her. She has the most beautiful skin. She said in an interview she loves her hair short better. She’s one of the few that can wear it that short, but I do love her looks more with somewhat longer hair where she’s worn different hairstyles.

I don’t get the Halle hate. Abused woman, married another man who cheated on her. Works behind the scenes with an organization that servers abused women and children (and when I say works… She is not just a “face at events” she is there daily, weekly, monthly.) Yes, she has her moments with her child’s father, but with her history with men…I kinda get it. And at least she admits it’s partly her fault for picking them. She is an advocate for women in need and we bash her the worst.Kinda sad.
i was talking about her outfit being called boring, when she’s wearing a perfectly nice dress in a silhouette she that she knows compliments her shape and her fits her personal style. it sounds digging for reasons to critisize BECAUSE of her personal life. which sounds absurd to me.

Exactly OKitten. I’m blinded by her inner ugly as opposed to her outer beauty. I actually don’t even find her all that beautiful anymore, esp when I see pics of her making serious bitchface like she is here. And that dress IS boring because it’s so predictable. There was a time she knew how to dress with incredibly unique flair – she really stood out on the red carpet – not so much anymore. Plus it’s too tight and makes her look a bit paunchy.

I’m basing it on many replies on many threads. Also I never said she was boring. I said she was gorgeous looking. No cattiness about looks because I am just fine with mine as we all should be. You seem generally pissed, yell in caps and call people names. Not me.

it looks catty when someone can’t just give credit where THEY clearly think credit is due. it’s ridiculous when people come up with nebulous critiques about a woman’s appearance when what they really don’t like is her personality. how would she stop being “boring” anyway? by dressing like rihanna, wearing avant garde clothing and trying to take crazy fashion risks? she’s 46! and she’d be ridiculed like no one’s business. but even that criticism would be logical.
I understand playing it safe in formal wear. If you are uncomfortable, it will show in how you present yourself and overall, your outfit will suffer. Plus, you really never should let an outfit ‘wear you’. She is beautiful and knows what works for her so I understand why she has a go-to look.
I also concede that it can side towards boring. I take some risks in my daily wardrobe but I generally tow the same line in formal.
I am not a fan of the lace overlay but that is just because I am not big on lace in general.

Yes! He was hot to trot in Unfaithful. Halle and Susan both look gorgeous. This is what one can look like when they’re genetically blessed, have great stylists on hand and the money to spend on themselves. Can’t dislike either, for that.
