Beyonce’s new Pepsi ad features multiple Beyonces & lots of blonde wigs

It’s 4-4. Which means it’s BEYONCE DAY. Beyonce loves the number 4. She wants to marry the number 4. She actually got married on 4-4. “Blue” has four letters and IV (Ivy) is Roman numeral “4”. She was born on the 4th of September. And on and on. So today is Beyonce Day. So what grand announcement does she have for us? Well, Beyonce is showing us her new commercial for Pepsi and OMG OMG OMG.

The blonde wiglet is officially out of control. Usually, Beyonce has some pretty decent-quality wigs and weaves, but I swear, that thing on her head looks like one of Kim Zolciak’s Barbie wigs. Plastic and cheap, is what I’m saying. Also: this seems to be a new song off of her new album? The song is called “Grown Woman” apparently. And this ad is called “Mirrors”. I barely paid attention to the song because I was so fascinated by how different her face looks. I said it two years ago, and I’m still saying – Beyonce has been tweaked. There’s a nose job and something else that I can’t quite put my finger on.

Anyway, this is what I’m sure will be the first of many Beyonce-Pepsi ads and collaborations. Pepsi is giving her $50 million for a comprehensive endorsement in which Beyonce gets an insane amount of money AND Pepsi will sponsor her new tour AND she’s developing some of the Pepsi ads herself, I guess. It’s basically just Pepsi and Beyonce being in business together all the way through. And this ad was their first product. And all I can see is WIGLET.

    She’s exhausting

  2. dorothy says:

Yawn. Tired of this one. Over-exposed much?

    • Kelly says:

Thank you. She didn’t even start to promote her crap and I am already tired of her. She is so over-produced and over-rehearsed.

  3. Jordan says:

I liked it I thought it was cute. I’m leaving before this gets ugly on here.

Also Jay-Z’s bday is Dec. 4. So yeah “4” is important to her.

  4. paola says:

    Her nose is weird

  5. Hannah says:

She’s a million miles away from her original nose.

  6. A says:

I love the curly wig (if it’s a wig?) it really suits her. both the curls and the color. Sometimes she goes too light with the shade and she looks like a burnt Malibu Barbie.

  7. Redwriter says:

Ok. So in one of my black studies classes I’ve taken, we were talking about how many celebrities of color have “white washed” themselves to further better their careers. I did a presentation that included her and how she’s physically lighten up her features over the years (she’s definitely not he only one. Lil Kim anyone?)
My point is that it’s hard for me to get on board with anything she does anymore. For someone who is aware the “power” and influence she holds, I wish she would realize how much she could help young, darker-skinned girls embrace their beauty.
Sorry to get all political. It’s just frustrating to me.

    • MonicaQ says:

IA and then at the same time, I remember getting railed in college by other black folks for straightening my hair and “conforming to some white Euro-standard of beauty”. I just liked rocking a mo-hawk but it turns out it was a whole ‘political statement’. Then when I made the comment of not like weave for my own hair styles (motorcycle helmets and football ones are not tracks’ friends), I “forgot where I came from”. Kobayashi Maru /sigh.

Best thing she could’ve done is just been herself but instead of being Beyonce, she decided to be “Beyonce”. There’s a difference and it’s obvious. Everything she does is carefully crafted to further her ‘image’ rather than be the chick that she knows she is.

      • Redwriter says:

I should clarify I don’t care so much about the straight hair (btw, if I could rock a hairstyle like you did, I would. My hair is extremely difficult to manage so I’m a wig whore.) But it’s the excessive blond wigs, weaves, extension, the lighter and lighter skin, etc. It’s what you said, she’s not being Beyonce, she’s a character and I doubt she even knows how to be herself.

      • michiem says:

to me though, she’s looked the same for 10+ years. so to say that she is not being her self, i think makes no sense. Predictable yes. She was always the blonde one in Destinys Child. She’s never done anything other than blond extensions and wigs. Except in movie roles has she been brunette.

      • Ag says:

        Loved the Kobayashi/Maru reference. 🙂

      • MonicaQ says:

No no, I’m not talking about her hair, I mean her image. She started off one way and just sort of…became…prepackaged? I guess what I’m trying to say is that she feels “phony” to me now vs. in 2001 when I was bumpin’ her and Destiny’s Child in the car.

      • WendyNerd says:

I definitely think that the obsession with euro-centric standards of beauty are a problem and totally support the tenants of the “Black is Beautiful” movement. There is definitely favoritism towards more “white” seeming features and there is a lot of shit dark-skinned black people have to deal with and it’s awful.

But, at the same time, do we criticize white girls who tan for “conforming to african-centric” standards. Women of color are judged enough as it is, so I think it’s bit unfair to heap this upon them as well.

    • Dawn says:

Really interesting to see your take on it, thanks for sharing. But what do you say about KK who seems to be going the other way? I think she is trying to look like Bey. I don’t like the politics of this either but I don’t think it will ever go away unless we are ALL allowed to discuss it.

      • Redwriter says:

Really? Please explain to me because I’m not exactly seeing it. (No snark, I’m legitimately curious.)

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Redwriter, who wrote: “Really? Please explain to me because I’m not exactly seeing it. (No snark, I’m legitimately curious.)”

What @Dawn means is … with all of our obsession with Beyonce’s skin color, you haven’t noticed that Kim K. is getting ‘darker’ in a very noticeable way. Why not Google ‘her’ and tell us how ‘her’ skin color has changed over the years?

    • MsAubra says:

It’s not Beyonce’s job to conform to what somone thinks she should look like based on somone’s political opinion of what a black woman should embody to young girls. That’s why we have parents, teachers, and those who are TRUE influencers outside of entertainment. Young girls growing up have to realize that you are going to have standards pushed from both sides and that you have to make a decision to “be” inspite of what is seen and heard daily. Hopefully they’ll also learn that being themselves doesn’t mean embodying an over aggressiveness in that realization, I see it way too much!

      • Redwriter says:

This would be ideal in a perfect world but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Kids are influenced by the media, regardless of what values their parents instill in them. Hell, ADULTS are influenced by the media. Regardless if she considers herself a role model or not, young girls look up to her.

      • truthful says:

        @ Ms. Aubra

        I agree 100%!!

      • kdlaf says:

AGREED. People dont realize they have the power to decide what is influential or not (hence, the criticism of Kim Kardashian – HELLO? You are the ones making her famous!). I’m not naive enough to think Beyonce has no influence in our culture but at the end of the day its the parent’s responsibility to raise the child to think for themselves and adhere to their own standard of beauty. Its not easy but not impossible but thats parenting and life in general.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I completely agree MsAubra. As I posted below, I think that women of color get far too much scrutiny over the choices they make for their hair color and make up choices. Why can’t we let all women just style themselves as they see fit? Why does a hair color have to be a massive statement about race?

As I said below, no one gets outraged when Rachel McAdams colors her hair dark brown, red, blonde. I think all women, (celeb or not, woman of color or not) should be free to appear as they wish. If we want to change society’s standards of beauty, focus on real life and be your own standard. Don’t expect celebs to be your representative.

      • WTF says:

You seem to underestimate the power of the media. It tells us how to think, what to eat, how to look, how we behave to one another. Beyonce has a responsibility more so now she is a parent. What’s she going to tell her daughter that you have to look like a European to achieve success. I admire her talent and drive but she seems to be ashamed of being African-American.

    • BreeinSEA says:

Totally agree! I hate it when celebs do this. But it can be argued its the same for white people tanning. Bleh…

      • Redwriter says:

True but when people get nose jobs, it’s not to widen their noses. See what I’m saying?

      • Raised Brow says:

Perhaps, not a ‘nose-widening’ (HAHA!!! Genius!!!), but lip & butt injections, right along with the tanning. See what I’M saying? 🙂

      • getreal says:

Europeans have never been happy (and never will) with the way they look.

    • Anon says:

But what if this is what beauty is to her?

Maybe she feels most beautiful in a blond wig.

      • NicolaGossips says:

If a black woman needs a blond wig to feel beautiful, she’s got a host of issues all of us combined on this blog can’t help her with.

        SMDH

    • boredbrit says:

For those who say that she has looked the same for the past ten years… Really? She’s obviously a lot fairer… I don’t think its something that can be disputed. She was darker skinned before, now she’s fairer. End of.

      • A says:

I Sincerely doubt she’s done anything to her skin.
Bleaching doesn’t give you a golden skin tone like hers, it gets you an ashy, uneven, gray-like skin tone that looks anything but natural.
I’ve seen her childhood pics and she was and has always been lighter skinned. Heck, i’ve seen her lay out and tan on the beach. I’ve seen her assistants bronze her up (see the behind the video to ‘work it out’ from MTV).
And let’s not even get to the whole ‘black people tan too’ depending on the season.
Sometimes I think people just want to bring her down because she annoys you. She annoys me too, but I’m not going to sit here and tell lies when the truth is so obvious.
The chick is also from Houston TX, of course she was sometimes darker then, she lives in NYC now.
I just can’t with people who want to project something so serious on someone without any proof what so ever.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

        @boredbrit …

You’re wrong. Go to YouTube and pull up videos of Destiny’s Child from the late nineties and early two thousands. If you won’t take our word for it–especially those of us who are black–then let your own eyes tell you.

You can’t see a black man or woman in a magazine and decide their skin tone has been altered without considering lighting, makeup, ‘the season (sun tans blacks too),’ or printing methods.

This woman has a creole mother. She was light and bright as a baby, girl, and teenager. You can’t see her in August and then claim in January that she has bleached her skin.

    • Aeryn39 says:

For the first time since I was a young child, I’ve gone natural. It wasn’t a political statement, but rather a rash response to rising relaxer prices at my salon. I work at a university. About a couple weeks after I did the Big Chop (back in November), a student of color came up to me and said thank you. Not one of my students (I work in the graduate medical program; this was clearly an undergrad). I asked the young man, thank you for what? He said for being proud of your hair. Honestly, until that point I was pretty ambivalent regarding the relaxing/hair coloring issue. I was sort of, well if you feel good about yourself then go for it. But when I realized that by just being an administrator on campus I could impact how a student felt about him/her self, I started to seriously consider the debate when it comes to celebs. Just my 2 cents based on my experience. I also think she looks tweaked. But tolerably tweaked, not on the road to Lil Kim “tweaked.” I just hope she stops before she gets there…

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

      @Redwriter …

If you’re having an identity crisis of color, don’t project it onto Beyonce. She’s not responsible for yours or any other black woman’s self-esteem (I’m assuming you’re black).

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Tina Turner has worn long, shinny honey brown to dark blonde wigs since the 1960’s. In fact, her short, SHORT dresses, gyrating hips, and long flipping wigs on stage became her trade mark, which started in the 1960’s.

ALL of the black female girl groups in the 1960’s wore wigs (back then, black hair care took a bit of time), because they had a show every night when booked at clubs.

Vanessa Williams has been blonde for a while now. Why no talk about her ‘white washing’ as well?

Please just back up off a sistah who is working her own shit and getting paid because she’s earned it with ‘years’ of hard work.

Ladies (in general) self-expression has no race, color, or gender as long as one is being true to one’s self.

  8. She needs to go away for a long while. Ugh. Sick of her, her love of her, her wigs, her shtick. All of it.

  9. Rikki says:

Seriously hate that blond wig on her. It makes her look a lot older but love the commercial and song.

  10. Arlene says:

Her body is insane * grumbles jealously*

    • marie says:

I know! so jealous.. where is she wearing a wig? is it all a wig? I can never spot fake hair and it’s starting to annoy me..

      • Amelia says:

Me neither. On the Kate posts there are usually keen eyed Celebitches on wiglet patrol, but for the life of me I just can’t see it!!!
I’m so ignorant when it comes to hair.
I know that it is usually grows on most people’s heads.
        And that’s my limit.

      • Amelia says:

My limit apparently does not include the English language 😉 – I know that *it* usually grows on people’s heads.

      • marie says:

Until this site, I thought it was all Kate’s hair, had no clue

  11. Nev says:

    budget still.

  12. scarlett says:

Everything about Beyonce is overprocessed much like her hair and her wigs. I seriously rolled my eyes at the multiple Beyoncebots. This woman is clearly beyond narcissism. She’s a legend in her own mind.

  13. Nicole says:

Blond doesn’t suit her and she’s a superficial bimbo who lives it up instead of doing charity and using her fame for good BUT she’s beautiful, always has been, the ad concept is great, and she’s the best actor for it.

  14. Mar says:

Honestly- wtf was that crap? She is annoying.

  15. Tanguerita says:

We are stuck with this unsufferable egomaniac forever, right? there seems to be no escape from her overprocessed talentlessness.

    • Grant says:

She might be overprocessed and overexposed but one thing she is not is talentless. That’s just absurd. This woman is one of the greatest performers of her generation, AND she can carry a tune. I mean, come on.

    • Onyx XV says:

Overprocessed talentlessness – oh, that’s brilliant. And so very fitting. That is the definition of Beyonce.

      • Trillion says:

Talentless? Are you kidding? I’m not a big fan of her genre of music, but this woman is definitely a talented singer, dancer and overall performer. She’s a star for a reason. Talentless is more along the lines of those Real Housewives bitches and Courtney Stodden etc. Beyonce is not at all in that category.

  16. Lupe says:

Yeah, she’s probably tweaked, but dayum that’s some high-quality surgery.

Still wish she’d go away for awhile.

  17. Maria says:

I wonder if she actually drinks this poison crap..?… will she let her daughter drink it too?…

  18. shanaynay says:

like she really drinks Pepsi when dancing/working out…

  19. Ashley says:

i normally dont comment but i LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SITE….

    going on like 3 years…

While there is definitely a fixation on white blonde beauty in the entertainment industry I mean (look at Emma Stone who was a awesome fierce athletic looking red head (dyedof cource but nonetheless amazing now she is a waif blonde and lessy freckly) but why is it that black women cant me glamarous and do different hair colors and looks…I personally think blonde is beyonce’s color yet that wig is ratchet and unfortunate but when she hits it she hits it. But as i was saying overall black white asian spanish celebs are going to always be thirve to be glamorous by any means really and to be there they are proabably going to do surgery.

did you know marilyn monroe the ultimate in blonde beauty had curly/wavy reddish brown hair freckles galore and greenish hazel eyes….yet look at her image now….STILL STUNNING and im not mad at her….stars have every right to do them and look the way they want….ANY person who lets their child immortalize these people have issues themselves.

I am a black darkskin woman…i have worn an afro, braids, short hair, shaved hair, asymetrical, weaved up, green contacts, brown contacts, gray contacts

NEVER once did i pray to be white or my anglo looking…. i just was like this is a different look i want to experiment with. I also love Aaliyah, Rihanna , and Beyonce (ALL LIGHT BRIGHT women) but i never said even as a child ,,,,i want to be white or light….i knew early on that i looked different from them and it wasnt wrong it was just different….SO WHY EVEN GET STRESSED ABOUT COMPARING TO A CELEB…when im an everyday civilian.

so beyonce do you (im not a stan just a admirer of her glamour most times) and live it up. You are only mandated to be an absolute role model to YOUR DAUGHTER BLUE IV

  20. doofus says:

I got no issue with anybody wearing a wig. if it makes you feel better about yourself, go for it. (hers looks bad here, but she’s the one who has to wear it…)

what I DO have an issue with is a hair dye product using her as a spokesperson.

I mean, does she dye her wigs?! never made sense to me…

  21. michiem says:

as a photographer – the truth is yes… skin does lighten up with photography and studio lights. Even caucausians look lighter. Except for the L’Oreal Ad, which I blame L’oreal – I don’t think she’s wanted to be white. Look at her mom’s skin tone. She’s creole. She has french and black bloodlines. I know people feel most comfortable just having everyone check one box on the race card, but most people are a mixture of different races. GET OVER IT.
I know people who are not redheads and for their entire lives they will dye their hair red. It is what is comfortable to them, its their identity. Beyonce wants to be blond, it has nothing to do with wanting to be “white”

  22. MsAubra says:

This would be ideal in a perfect world but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Kids are influenced by the media, regardless of what values their parents instill in them. Hell, ADULTS are influenced by the media. Regardless if she considers herself a role model or not, young girls look up to her.
    ———-

total cop out to not wanting to parent and influence your own children

  23. Nooneimportant says:

I do love Beyonce but she is well hell of a narcist which makes her pretty normal in the world of celebirty. She does look different but it could be contouring.

  24. Tiffany :) says:

I feel like too much pressure is put on female stars of color and their styling choices. (See Zoe Saldana). The message board never blows up with people obsessing over the fact that Rachel McAdams (or others like her) is denying her heritage by dying her hair dark brown or red or blonde.

In this day and age, women have so many options! Especially for stars, they can change their “look” easily, so why shouldn’t they? Why shouldn’t Beyonce have just as much right to have hair of a different color than I do?

I don’t think stars are responsible for our society’s attitudes about race and beauty. We ALL are responsible. What happens in day-to-day life is more important than what some chick wears in a commerical that most people will fast forward through on their dvr.

  25. madpoe says:

I see so many commericals stating how we need to cut back on sugary drinks, then the soda pop peeps amp out the celeb endorsements. Then the celebs rant on about how much weight the lost for whatever reason. I mean I like zombies but I wouldn’t want to be in a room full of ’em.

  26. TheOneAndOnly says:

    Agree with Dorothy, kelly and everyone else; this narcissistic one per center needs to go away – she’s become a robotized corporate gimmick; WOnder if she’s aware People, Hell and Angels a posthumous Jimi Hendrix compilation has been released, and its topped the charts and is vastly superior to her processed garbage;
News flash bouncy (and camel) You become a legend with your talent and creativity, not by your booty shaking and shameless self-promotion.

  27. OhMyGawh says:

Why does she irk me so?

  28. e.non says:

heh… i thought that was a photo of the gosselin woman…

and what a nice way for beyonce to honor her bestest friend, michelle obama…. by taking millions to dump that toxic shit down the throats of the kids of america. perhaps she should park her ass outside some high school and take a look at what that poison does to kids.

  29. Grace says:

Is there a real Beyonce in there or has she been this way since she was a child? Does she know that she’s not a living doll?
If she doesn’t now she will at “35”(or whichever year she chooses 35 to be)
She needs to go sit with her Mama and take in those facial features. Those same Cruella De Ville features in Tina are already coming out in Beyonce, espcially in the leather shorts pics. She’ll be headed down highway Mama Tina very shortly. Keep all those pics Bey, you’re going to need them as reminders at 50.

  30. I thought it was cool! It was fun trying to match all of the mirror Beyoncés to what video they were from 🙂 But I like her hair better when it’s a little darker myself (honey blonde, not platinum)

  31. KellyinSeattle says:

Multipule Beyonces? One is already too many. She’s really just wearing out her welcome.

    • lucy says:

Ha! This is what I was going to say, verbatim! Oh, and as if she really drinks sugary soft drinks? Pepsi is as tacky as Beyonce. Whatever.

  32. HH says:

Wow – She’s been on a campaign to make her thighs appear small in ads. Apparently, she thinks no one has seen them before which also leads to believe she doesn’t know how many times she’s been pictured in a leotard.

  33. lucy2 says:

She is a beautiful woman, but I find her annoying and overrated.

  34. Renee says:

I love Beyonce. The baddest chick to ever do it 🙂

  35. sitting quietly says:

Mrs Obama will be shaking her head when she see this. way to go – promote a health hazard! great now I’m thirsty for one!!

  36. Diana says:

I like the concept of the commercial, but definitely this shade of blonde doesn’t suit her…
I have always thought she looked stunning with the honey-brown hair she had in the Dejavù video!

  37. Emma - the JP Lover says:

I can’t believe people don’t see the light shinning on her in the bottom photo. Yes, her skin looks lighter there because a big ass bright light is shinning on her and she’s standing in front of a white wall (dark colors absorb, light colors reflect). Come on people, use a bit of common sense.

  38. Onyx XV says:

It’s so sad, and so painfully obvious, how very badly Beyonce wants to be a white chick with blonde hair. And nature made her beautiful naturally. Be who you are, girl!! Damn.

  39. Leek says:

    Coke is it.

  40. Hakura says:

It’s totally obvious she’s at least had a nose job. (More than one, too.) There’re tons of comparison pics…

Then… This one. I have no other reason for putting it up, other than the fact that it never fails to make me smile. >:)

(Anyone know WTFHell is going on with her arms in this one? o_O Jeez.

  41. anna says:

Everything this woman does now is all about her. She is even dancing with herself. She has presented the most egotistical selfish celebrity profile in decades.

The Divine Ms B. Even Bette knew it wasn’t about her. It was about the music, the boys, the dance, the theatre. Etc.

Beyonce is always all about Beyonce all the time. Why do so many people like her? I am affronted that the president of this country actually asked this woman to sing at his inauguration. A young feeble singer whose only accomplishment is her own image. The height of insanity during this crazy celebrity full decade.

  42. the real mccoy says:

I don’t think she has lightened her skin. But repeated nose jobs has made her lose the ethnic flare (no pun intended). Beyonce is Deena, the role she played in Dreamgirls. She has no distinct personality in her music so she morphs into whatever the newest and hottest producers see her as. It has become more extreme since her father is no longer her manager.

  43. Gillian says:

Regarding the face-tweaking…possible. Her face has changed. But also remember that we’ve been watching her since she was in her early 20s, and bones reach their final growth, mass-wise, in the 30s, so it could just be her face maturing.

  44. Geezee says:

I’m way more upset that she’s promoting a health hazard (that she has previously spoken out against with Michelle Obama) than the fact that her skin looks white and her nose is small.
