Kate Hudson is deeply boring in ‘Elle’ magazine

wenn2223079
Quick: name the last decent movie starring Kate Hudson. Other than “Almost Famous.” You can’t do it, can you? That’s because Kate Hudson has made one piece of crap film after another since her breakthrough performance. But somehow, she has landed on the cover of Elle magazine’s February 2009 issue, talking about how she wants to take on “darker” roles.

Kate Hudson graces the February 2009 cover of Elle Magazine, and she talks about her ire for the paparazzi and choosing darker roles. She stars in “Bride Wars” with Anne Hathaway, out January 9.

On the paparazzi:
“They’ve become an entity to themselves… But eventually they’ll implode. They’re creating a house of cards that will inevitably fall. These are not nice people. When you’re taking your child to school, and they’re trying to get on school property to get a picture, it literally makes you want to just smack them.”
On her acting range:

“I could be in an interview and people would keep going, ‘So why do you always do romantic comedies?’ Do I want to do darker roles? Of course. It has to be the right thing, though. I’m not just going to, like, make a movie that’s, Oh, she’s a whore, prostitute, and heroin addict.”

The article also talks to Jennifer Meyer, wife of Tobey Maguire and childhood classmate of Hudson. Jennifer remembers Kate getting sent home for wearing her skirts too short in high school.

[From Huffington Post]

Wow, she’s so edgy, talking smack about the paparazzi like that! I’ve never heard another star complain about paps before. Blah, blah, blah. Why didn’t the interviewer ask her how she feels about her ex-boyfriend, Lance Armstrong, knocking up another woman just a couple of months after their breakup? Or why Owen Wilson tried to off himself after she dumped him? Or why anyone should pay $9 to see another one of her horrible movies? Now THAT would be a fascinating read.

As for her refusal to play a prostitute or a drug addict, it sure seemed to work out okay for actresses like Julia Roberts and Charlize Theron. But who would want their careers when you can keep churning out the same bad movies year after year? Kate’s latest cinema masterpiece, released in that no-man’s land of January (when all the really bad movies come out), is called “Bride Wars” and co-stars Anne Hathaway and Candice Bergen, both of whom I adore. I’m going to tell myself that Anne was drugged into agreeing to be in this movie. It looks absolutely dreadful. By the way, two of the movies that Kate Hudson starred in last year, “Fool’s Gold” with Matthew McConaughey and “My Best Friend’s Girl” with Dane Cook, have been named to numerous “Worst Movies of 2008” critics’ lists. Way to go, Kate!

Here’s the trailer for Bride Wars:

actually the first flick after almost famous…i thought of was: the skeleton key.

a very good darker movie. i liked it very much.

the romantic movies she always does not.

  2. Michelle says:

Wow MSat, you got no love for her, huh? I actually like Kate Hudson. I liked Fool’s Gold, and My Best Friend’s Girl, also love Skeleton Key. I don’t find her to be half as annoying as some others. I think she is a little ho-ish at times, but to each their own. Plus if I faulted actresses I like for being ho-ish they would probably all fall short.

  3. Alison says:

She did the Four Feathers after Almost Famous, with Heath Ledger, and it was OK, but not because she was good in it. I think her movies are written for her because they are all the same character, all the time.
I still like her, just wish she could land a role similar in strength/quality to Almost Famous (although the only reason she landed that job was because the amazing talent of Sarah Polley dropped out and she was second choice!) and I love that she is a maneater. 🙂

  4. Granger says:

“Do I want to do darker roles? Of course. It has to be the right thing, though.”

In other words, she hasn’t been offered anything “dark” — by which, she probably actually means “deep, interesting and meaningful.” Fact is, Kate has completely pigeon-holed herself into the Sweetheart-Girl-Next-Door category, and now nobody wants to see her as anything but her cute little self in cute little fluffy films.

I thought Skeleton Key had an interesting concept, but it was pretty cheesy, and she was by far the weakest thing in it.

  5. Larissa says:

Skeleton Key was a good movie indeed!
All in all, I think she doesn´t have the ambition of being an oscar winner actress, simply because she cannot pull it off! She is a mediocre actress and only gets less than good scripts, so she is working with what she gets! But obviously she wouldn´t admit it!!!!!Luckily for her she was born in the right family!

  6. Jess says:

I have never understood the Kate Hudson phenomenon. She’s a famous child who’s kind of cute and kind of fun in movies but that’s it – so why is she a big Hollywood movie star? Her success is a complete mystery to me.

  7. Amy says:

Kate Hudson is deeply boring in general. She isn’t much in the looks department, either, if you ask me. I don’t get it at all.

  8. ll says:

Since interviews for Elle generally happen about 6-7 weeks before publication, they didn’t ask her about Lance Armstrong because they didn’t know to ask her. Come on, that’s a silly comment to make – it’s called lead time.

  9. Baholicious says:

“They’ve become an entity to themselves… But eventually they’ll implode. They’re creating a house of cards that will inevitably fall.”

God woman, it’s the paprazzi for chrissakes, not Scientology or the Gambino crime family.

This is what happens when vapid twits like her try to sound deep. I’m surprised though she managed to refrain from peppering her comments with “like, you know…” but the jury’s still out on hair twirling.

    Kate Hudson is deeply boring.

    Period.

  11. RReedy says:

If not for her Mother, Kate H would be another wanna be..I agree: she is BORING.

  12. bros says:

    pretty much jennifer aniston 2.0

but at least she has a kid.

  13. April says:

Kate Hudson is a poser. Always has been, always will be. No one who is a true “hippie” or “gypsy” as she claims to be would ever drone on about it in every interview like SHE does.

  14. Camper says:

At least Kate has spank, Aniston is just dead boring!

  15. Persistent Cat says:

I like Kate Hudson. I love her skin. And maybe this will seem conceited but I’ve had a few people tell me I look like her and I’ve taken that as a huge compliment.

I actually want to see this movie. I’m married and I was a crazy bride. Besides, so many comedies are male focused, I’m happy to see a female physical comedy movie.

Oh, and what exactly does “at least she has a kid” mean?

  16. MSat says:

And what does “she has spank” mean?

  17. deka says:

    you are completely right
she is following in her mother’s footsteps
goldie made maybe 5 decent movies

  18. kd says:

she did skel. key, didn’t see it thought. It looked dumb.

  19. paris herpes says:

The only movie I can think of that she was decent in WAS Almost Famous. She usually sticks to the romantic comedies because it’s all she can do, her acting chops are clearly next to none. Even Jennifer Aniston is slightly better than she is but they are reduced to taking roles in terrible romantic comedies. Anne Hathaway will probably go the same route.

  20. raven says:

I like her, too. I loved her in Almost Famous. I think she is another star who needs to find herself. I think Hollywood tends to be a bit of a shallow pit. People have to go out of their way to find something constructive to do. Her mother expanded her own horizons by serious travel and Kate might be well advised to do the same thing. I think if she got herself together, she could be another Carole Lombard.

  21. Jon says:

I get Hathaway being in this. Box office pull + more credible dramatic roles + nominations = greater choice in the roles she takes. Keira Knightley wasn’t the first choice for P&P, but the studio made Wright met with her because of her box office. So that’s definitely a smart move.

Hudson, was the third in line for that role in Almost Famous. She was chosen after Sarah Polley dropped out and Kirsten Dunst was considered too young. Actually, she was fourth, because the director brought Natalie Portman in to test opposite Brad Pitt, but she was deemed too young like Dunst.

Hudson, is a money whore. That’s the only reality there is. She doesn’t make these films to fund smaller projects, she doesn’t make good mainstream films, she does these crappy chick flick films to line her pockets.

  22. Persistent Cat says:

Also, I think what she’s saying is she’s not going to play a hooker/stripper for the sake of playing a hooker/stripper.

  23. Jinxy says:

The reason she’s boring is that she is pretty stupid. She can’t keep a man for the same reason, vapid and so self involved.

  24. kate says:

this bride movie looks so shitty.

  25. Bodhi says:

I really like Kate but her movies have been terribly one note.

  26. Jaded Envy says:

    Hudson > Aniston.

  27. Ally says:

She is quite boring. Her movies are easy breezy, it’s impossible to know of she’s talented or not because she plays the same caracter over and over and over…
I never heard something good from her, she really seems empty, the rich girl that wanted to be an actress.

  28. debra77 says:

I don’t like or dislike Kate…But my question is Why is Anne Hathaway doing this film on the heals of an Oscar worthy performance…Can someone say Halle Berry and Catwoman… I just think for an Actress more then the actor their movie choice after a great performance is an indication of your career path. JMO.. but why do this movie.

  29. just me says:

Well, I love Kate’s movies 😀 And fuk what everyone else thinks. “How to lose a guy in 10 days” was one of my favorite movies. Comparing her to dorky Jennifer is just not right in so many levels…ugh. I love you Kate…rock on with your bad self!!!

  30. Ana says:

How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days is one of my favorite movies.
She is too bubbly to be seen in anything very dark imo.

  31. sister friend says:

sounds like some of the girls commenting here (as well as the author) are just a wee bit jealous. only jealousy can arouse such vicious emotions. why be so nasty about people you really know nothing about? it’s a waste of your time and life is too short for that. can’t we try to make the internet a nicer place to visit? also, the statement about january being a month for bad movies in patently incorrect. both oscar nominees/winners (there will be blood) and huge box office (cloverfield = $200 million) hits have been released in jan.

    “THAN”

  33. adrseq says:

she is kind of boring there. i still want to see bride wars. i think i will like the rivalry. most of her movies were boring. but i loved almost famous

  34. hmm says:

sister friend, why is it that women are not entitled to dislike an actress without someone screaming that they’re jealous? Isn’t it reasonable that some women don’t find Hudson appealing as an actress or are we supposed to like every woman actress lest we be labeled as insecure and petty? Or should we make a list of the actresses we do like to counterbalance the oft repeated jealously line? I have read a lot of comments on this board about a whole host of women and most of the responses have nothing to do with envy. I just find that the jealousy line is such a cheap shot because it is an attempt to silence voices of dissent.

  35. boomchakaboom says:

This is too complicated to comment on. On one hand I may be jealous that I’m not a famous blonde person, on the other hand I could be too dumb to know a good movie when I see one.

I will take a bold step and say I liked Skeleton Key a lot.

  36. Junta says:

Kate Hudson belongs to the group of Hollywood blondes that includes Jennifer Aniston, Hillary Duff and Gwyneth Paltrow, that constantly make bad movies but yet somehow continue to get offered scripts. When other more ethnic-type actresses make one bad movie, that is enough for it to be used against them and they soon disappear. Very unfair indeed.

  37. Morgan says:

I can’t wait to see Bride Wars, I think it looks hilarious! I’m a big Kate Hudson fan (so what if she doesn’t have serious acting chops–she’s talented, makes me laugh and above all keeps us entertained. And isn’t that what going to the movies is supposed to be about?!) Anyways, I know I have good taste in movies, and Bride Wars looks like a fun, escapist, box-office hit!

  38. california angel says:

I’m just going to go out on a limb here and say that Anne Hathaway is the most overrated actress in the industry. I get bored just looking at her, while I am neutral towards Kate Hudson. Obviously Anne is by far the superior actress, I just don’t understand why she is such a big deal.

  39. K says:

Ever hear of Nepotism? If Kate was not Goldy’s daughter she would be a regular working stiff like the rest of us. I have not seen all of her movies but 90% of them are C movies (not even B). She will never be in same class as Nicole Kidman, Renne Z or even Ann Hathaway (who was great in the Rachel movie, now that was a wedding flick). She is a cute blonde girl with good connections.

  40. pavithra says:

    Hi,

Guys, but who would want their careers when you can keep churning out the same bad movies year after year? Kate’s latest cinema masterpiece,is really good.
