Britney Spears dons bikini for Shape Mag, admits that she’s on Nutrisystem

Britney Spears covers the June issue of Shape Mag. Is this Brit’s real body? Er…well. I’ve seen Britney clothed and in short shorts and such, and I feel comfortable saying that she still has a very nice figure. But it’s not THIS nice. I think this is less about magazine editors’ compulsive need to Photoshop and airbrush their celebrity covers into oblivion and more about Britney’s management team wanting to control every part of her life, to the point where I’m sure Larry Rudolph was on the phone with Shape demanding that the cover be retouched to his specifications.

As for the interview… well, you know the problems I have with Britney’s interviews. One, I don’t believe she actually said these things (a lot of her interviews are done via email, and I imagine her publicist is answering the questions). And two, whenever I imagine Britney speaking these days, she sounds like Tyler Perry doing Madea. Try reading Britney’s interviews in Madea’s voice – it’s fun! Plus, I bet Brit actually does say “terlet”. Some highlights:

Keeping her body in shape: “I like it, then again, I hate it. I’m in my 30s now, so I have to work harder to keep it up.”

She’s on Nutrisystem weight loss program: “Dieting is tough … because my specialties are spaghetti, brownies and chocolate chip cookies. I try not to make those [cookies] too often or I’ll eat the whole bowl of dough.”

Workouts: “I’m doing 90 minutes of yoga twice a week in addition to a lot of cardio — hour-long sessions three times a week with my trainer, Tony Martinez. The [Vegas] performances won’t be simple — they’ll be a massive party from start to finish. And to pull this off, I have to be in top condition and running at full speed.”

[From Us Weekly & USA Today]

I would like to hear more about her workouts, quite honestly. What do you think she’s doing, like Tuesday-Thursday yoga and Monday-Wed-Friday cardio? Is she doing strength training? What cardio does she do? Because say what you will about Britney, but I’ve always bought her athleticism. She’s not one of those celebrities who will get winded walking up a flight of stairs. She likes to dance, she likes to keep in shape, and I imagine her workouts are very soothing to her. I also didn’t know she was on Nutrisystem…? I wonder if that’s an endorsement deal in the works.

Here are some photos of Britney and David Lucado (surprisingly not wearing head-to-toe Virgina Tech gear) out and about in LA yesterday:

She always wears such bad shirts. Always! Where does she get this endless supply of awful, ill-fitted shirts? But I still love her!!!

    • Liv says:

Yep, I also can’t help but love her.

She had the best body ever back in the days and I think she comes close to it again. I really miss her dancing, she was so good back then.

  2. Manchurian Global says:

No way is that her body. No way is that ANYONE’S body.

Sidenote: I wish they would stop treating her like a show-pony. She’s made enough money – give her a break and let her be a normal person!

    • Lauren Carter says:

Sad to say, but I think they’re going to ride this pony till it dies….

    • Apsutter says:

I’d say it’s pretty close to her body. Remember those bikini pics from a while ago with her kids? Her body looked TIGHT. I think there were other pics of her looking awesome recently but I can’t remember them…

      • swtmelody says:

I saw her at Wango Tango this Saturday (5/11) and I believe this is her body. She looked so good! She was so fit and surprisingly was very charismatic and chirpy. She did not look or sound drugged up at all.

  3. Itsjustblanche. says:

She looks great in the photos below but thats not anyone’s body.

  4. Poke em all says:

    photoshoped but nice.

  5. Tessa says:

I hope she’s thought this Vegas thing through… I wish she’d just retire, and that her people would let her. She’s not feeling it anymore, and anyone with eyes can see that. She’s done her thing, she did it well, and now let’s just let her ride off into the sunset with her kids and her sanity.

    • Amelia says:

      +1
The Vegas contract is a big commitment, I sincerely hope she’s not being pushed towards it.
I hope she’s keeping well. I do worry for her sometimes. I could just imagine her happily retiring to a family home and pottering around in the garden.
On the topic of exercise, what’s the general opinion of Yoga/Pilates from everyone? Generally I tend to stick to my cycling and running with a few weights thrown in for good measure, but I’ve been looking to improve my flexibility, but I don’t think my dodgy hips are going to allow for much movement.

      • MonicaQ says:

I started doing yoga when I was quite heavy (263lbs) 5 years ago in an effort to gain some flexibility while I played American Football. I’m down to 225lbs and it’s still hard but tiring. You just have to know your limit and toe that line–I won’t be doing handstand splits anytime soon but it helped with my bad knees.

      • Erinn says:

I was wondering this too, Amelia. I try to run a bit, and do weights, but I’ve been really slack for the last couple months and am out of shape. I was thinking maybe trying some yoga once we’ve moved into the house we bought… don’t want to do it while living with my family, I can just imagine the mocking that would ensue because I’m incredibly uncoordinated.

      • Apsutter says:

Pilates is AMAZING! It doesn’t stress any parts of your body so I never feel pain afterwards. I’m pretty short(5’3″) and I started it to help keep in shape and look leaner. It has helped my limbs and body look so much leaner and longer. I still do cardio but Pilates is my go to cool down workout and it makes me feel great

      • Jenna68 says:

Pilates is great for your back (strong core muscles help keep your back healthy) – I always feel a few inches taller after a Pilates session, too! I’m also a fan of yoga, it really helps with flexibility – the trick is to find a teacher that can modify the poses to accommodate any issues you might have (like your hips.)

      • Renee says:

Pilates is great to strengthen core, and to lean down if you’ve been building bulky muscle (like from cycling). Yoga is great for balance and flexibility. The right yoga class can be great body-weight strength building, too.

Those who say the key is the right class have a point: a good trainer will help you learn how to modify poses. But, if you just want to give it a try, there are a lot of good at-home pilates and yoga workouts.

    • lunabell says:

      Agreed.

I have a soft spot for Britney. Yes, her singing abilities are lacking, but she was such a good performer and I’ve always believe she had “it”.

At this point, it’s not only that she can’t physically do the things she used to, but she’s getting close to the point where it wouldn’t work for her anymore anyway, even if she had all her faculties. She made her name off of being a good performer to pop dance songs — that gets harder to sell as you age. She should retire.

  6. Eleonor says:

I really like her body, very athletic.

    • gogoGorilla says:

Agreed – her REAL body. Not the one that’s on the cover of that magazine.

      She has amazingly shapely legs.

Also, as to this whole Vegas thing, she might be someone who needs/wants to work, and this is a much better gig than constantly traveling/touring.

  7. Lauren says:

Her body doesn’t look much different here then it did in the bikini photos we saw of her at her friends beach house right after this photo shoot. Yeah it’s airbrushed some but every magazine cover is.

    • Joanna says:

Yeah, I agree. she has an awesome body, not much photoshopping needed.

    • Kim says:

Its photoshopped but represents her body. They didnt make her a stick & all covers are photoshopped to some extent. At least its not totally unrealistic like the Kelly Osbourne and Jennifer Love Hewitt covers were.

  8. Quinn Parker says:

I think the “Britney as sex symbol” ship has sailed for most.

    • tank says:

Co-sign. I never found her body any better than average even at her peak. I just felt that she traded on the lolita image that she was saddled with forever. But sexy woman? Never

  9. The Original Original says:

what an awkward pose to have on the cover. weird

  10. JL says:

I like both Brittany and Jessica, they did it, they got the cash now they do what they want when they want without apology.

Do you need to diet? Hell yeah and I hate it!
I’ll take that any day over Goop, Alba Etc etc and their BS.

She’s not going for super skinny and looks good and athletic and admits it’s work, unlike some others.

    Good for her.

  11. serena says:

She really seems in great shape, regardless of the cover.

  12. audrey says:

gotta love that she has a Cheesecake Factory doggie bag in her hand in that first pap shot. That is categorically not her body and, she’s only 31, just give it a decade. eek.

  13. Liz says:

I’m sorry but she looks like a doll or a robot not at all like a living breathing human.

  14. Dedrie says:

Nurtisystem is her Photoshop artists’ nickname..?

  15. Andrea says:

Everytime I see this woman I just feel sad for her and want to give her a hug.

    • Emily says:

      +1

She never has had, and never will have, her own life. She’s just a money-making object for her parents. Very sad.

  16. Tiffany :) says:

The face in the cover photo looks like a painting, not a photograph.

  17. Hautie says:

I didn’t realize that Britney actually signed a deal to do Vegas. Everyone kept talking about “how” she was in talks. So where is she taking up residency?

But I do understand why she would do the Vegas thing. I suspect it was so she gets out of the house on daily basis.

But the one thing I am not buying. Is that interview with Shape.

The girl does not speak in full sentences.

I have never seen her do an interview in person, where I thought she came off looking half way intelligent. She is always pretty and laughing. But unfortunately she is not a good interview.

That long answer to the last questions about her workouts… she did not remotely give that answer. But at least Larry Rudolph is earning his cash by doing her print interviews for her. 🙂

  18. Apsutter says:

So odd she’s on nutrasystem! If I had her money I’d have a personal chef and a nutritionist and stay skinny Mariah Carey style. Mariah has admitted she doesn’t like to exercise that much so she only does light exercise a couple times a week to maintain and says its 90% about her diet.

    • Barhey says:

This is an aside but has anyone here tried Nutrisystem? Or have any thoughts on it? People seem to get results from it but I always thought the food looked kind of gross on commercials so I’d love to learn more about it.

      • Anna-fo-Fanna says:

It’s vile! More than that, though, you’re always hungry – or at least I was. Plus, it’s an unsustainable way to diet. For me, Weight Watchers has been the key.

      • Barhey says:

That’s what it seems like to me. Like its only successful because its very small portions, but anyone can loose weight on less calories I guess.

Does weight watchers leave you hungry?

      • Anon says:

I lost 60 lbs on Nutrisystem. And have kept it off for 4 yrs. The food wasn’t gourmet but I bought it through QVC at a good price and after 4 months-was able to lose the weight and stop the meals.

      • littlemissnaughty says:

@ Barhey: Nope, if you do WW right it won’t leave you hungry (it helps if you know how to cook). It’s mostly a good way to track what you’re eating, cutting down on foods that are high in calories but low in nutrients, and give you stars for certain milestones. Gotta be honest, the stars make me happy. 😀 You can do it wrong though. It’s not a miracle diet and can be tedious at first. Worked for me though when nothing else did.

  19. KellyinSeattle says:

I love Britney’s smile! She can really light up a room.

  20. littlemissnaughty says:

I have no idea what Nutrisystem is, all I know is she looks really good. Which is why I don’t get why they Photoshopped her to hell and back. Why not put her head on a cartoon body? Would be so much easier and cheaper, not to mention just as realistic. This will make people buy Shape? Ugh.

  21. TOPgirl says:

Why oh why does Britney always end up with a fugly, nobody dude!? If that is the case, she can have my brother who so happens to be a nobody but at least he’s attractive!

  22. Chichai says:

    She looks so slim

  23. VioletCrumble says:

Everyone, on every cover, is photoshopped. No surprises here.

  24. xoxokaligrl says:

I like Britney Spears, and I have no idea why.

Her body looks good after two close pregnancies.
