Ricky Martin hoping to adopt baby daughter

Hands-on single father Ricky Martin is said to love fatherhood so much that he’s hoping to adopt a baby girl. Martin has five month old boy twins Matteo and Valentino who were born through a surrogate mother. The 37 year-old singer is reported to be in the process of adopting a daughter from Puerto Rico and has plans to bring her home this summer.

According to a pal, [Ricky Martin is] now planning to adopt a girl from his native Puerto Rico in 2009. “Ricky loves his sons more than anything in the world, but he’s always wanted to have a daughter, too,” his friend explains. “He’s already started the process and hopes to have baby number three by June.”

[From In Touch, print edition, January 12, 2008]

Martin told People Magazine in early December that he doesn’t have a nanny or any help and is enjoying the process of raising the babies on his own. He explained that he does have a personal assistant to help with his own needs, but that he loves taking care of the infants and added “I don’t want to miss a moment.”

Martin has not addressed speculation about his orientation and there has been some mild criticism from conservatives who question his motivation for raising children on his own. Given the way he bragged to People about how great his kids are you can see that he was just thrilled to be a dad. He said “Everything they do, from smiling to crying, feels like a blessing.”

Congratulations to Martin and if this story is true he’ll soon have another little blessing in his house.

Does the babies have any contact with their mom? even if a surrogate mother, can you just pop-out babies and leave them? I mean, when theres couples involved its something else, but a single father? Babies do need a maternal figure, especially in their first years! I am just wondering really…
I do know gay couples who have babies through surrogate mothers and the mother still makes part of the raising of the child! Adoption is different ofc, because if a mom is giving away her baby it´s not because she got preganant willingly in the first place
and then one parent is better than having no parent at all!!!!
But is he planning to raise 3 children on his own? Sounds a bit crazy to me, twins can be a handfull sometimes and they are still quite young and demand loads of attention, so I don´t think it´s smart of him to rush to adopt another one so soon!!!! I am sure he is a good daddy, but good parenting has nothing to do with how many children you raise at the same time! So take it easy Ricky!

If I could pay people do everything else for me; cooking, cleaning, errands etc. I’d have more kids too! LOL I like him a lot, he’s always seemed like he has his head and heart in the right place, and very down to earth. 🙂

Larissa, I don’t even know where to start. First of all, that’s discrimination. If it was a woman going to a sperm bank would you be claiming that the father should be involved in the child’s life because the child needs a paternal figure? Secondly, not every woman wants to be a mother, but maybe she realizes she can help someone who can’t have a child (regardless of who that person may be) by being a surrogate. Children need love period. It doesn’t really matter if that love is provided by a single man, a single woman, or any combination thereof. Families are comprised of people who love each other. They don’t have to conform to some preconceived notion of what a family is.

AWWW Ricky Martin seems to be doing great being a father and I admire him for choosing to do this on his own. Some people just don’t want to be in a relationship, they just want to be parents and concentrate solely on that, I see nothing wrong with that.

Larissa who are you to sit behind a computer and judge someone. Unreal!! He seems like an amazing father and I am sure he can ‘handle’ all 3 children. Why would he not be able to?? come on, get with the program, this is 2009. I would hope you rethink your cave man like ideology. I am happy for him and his children. They are a beautiful family !!!! Congrats ricky !!!

I am sorry if it came out the wrong way, I am not discrediting the ability of any men to raise and give proper care and love to a child! And I am not saying you have to be in a relationship to have a child either! But I think if you have options, you can choose better, for the sake of your children, not your own!
I find it very brave for women to give themselves to help other people to make a dream come true, but if you don´t want to be a mother and you go through a pregnancy , having your own child, just for money, then I am the one who really doesn´t know from where to start…
As a daughter, I can´t really imagine life without my mother, I am sorry if that might sound offensive to any of you! As a mother myself, I could never IMAGINE not being part of my child´s life and not being there for her,to nurse then listen her first words, watch her first steps or just show the BIG world out there…to me honeslty, makes no sense!

And who am I to judge anyone?
No one, am not giving a sentence here am I?!Incredible!!! But I do think I am entitled to my own opinion considering this a CELEBRITY GOSSIP blog! You people should really go and write on Ricky´s website message board or something!

They should have some kind of female role model (aunt, grandmother, etc.) but he sounds like a great father.

  9. J-Lin says:

Larissa – I know plenty of folks with really lousy mothers who would have been better off if they never knew these women. It’s easy to say the ideal situation is a mother and father, but in the real world, things don’t work out that way.

Examples of Bad Mothers: Cassey Anthony, Susan Smith, Joan Crawford

  10. J-Lin says:

It’s funny people say they as a girl they can’t imagine life without a mother, but couldn’t the same be said for a boy and a father? Doesn’t seem to cause as much of a fuss.

    Adorable babies!

  12. Heather says:

Those babies are so cute I can’t stand it!! I want to pinch those little cheeks

  13. gg says:

I have to agree with the part about having infant twins and wanting yet another one. No way can he take care of all 3 all by himself without somebody suffering. And I think the same thing of the Joie-Pitts doing that several times over. Just not terribly smart or realistic for the babies or the parent(s).

  14. Joe says:

    Yup, he’s gay.

  15. Robin says:

Congrats to Ricky! The babies are absolutely precious and he looks like he is beaming as dad. A little girl to add to this family would be wonderful!
