The Sex and The City sequel is moving forward and will start filming this year. The older stylish girlfriends proved popular at the box office four years after the television show wrapped and producers are eager to continue the franchise as long as it will make some cash. The actresses will all get million dollar paychecks again, with star Sarah Jessica Parker potentially earning a staggering $30 to $50 million depending on how well the second installment performs. She’s said to have negotiated a deal for a percentage of the profits that could prove quite lucrative for her:
Sarah Jessica Parker might soon displace Cameron Diaz as the world’s highest paid actress. According to an insider, the 43-year-old star could earn at least $30 million if the Sex and The City sequel does as well as the first movie, for which she was paid a reported $1 million. “The sequel is going to be even better with more of a story line,” the insider says. “It’s going to be a bit longer, too.” Sarah Jessica’s deal, which includes a producer credit, boosts an impressive salary, plus a cut of the box office. “She could even earn $50 million,” the insider adds.

That’s a massive amount of money that hardly seems justified, but it’s not uncommon in the industry for stars to receive a cut of the earnings that amounts to tens of millions. Parker is a producer of the series along with being a star and if male stars like Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise can cash in like that, women should be able to do it too.
I wonder what kind of plot they’ll come up with for the second installment. There are enough characters and plenty of possibilities. I was incredibly disappointed with the end of the last SATC movie – it was an anti-ending which felt like a let down. It was like poor Carrie wasn’t a fashionable feminist after all, just a sad single woman willing to take what she can get. Maybe she’ll finally find romance on her own terms this time.

that is ridculous, she is a terrible actress and does not deserve that amount of money and the last film was terrible, big carrie get on well, big acts like an idiot, they break up, they get back together as he can treat her like crap adn she puts up with it, hardly the supposed girl power they bang on about.
nothing like in times of horrific financial/job losses hearing that one could make $30-50 million for a movie that isn’t even out!
i’m not a huge SATC, but from the ladies i talked too, it was disappointing (fashion, plot, ending). would people really pay more money for another one?!

Any yeah, SATC is hardly the feminist ideal it’s made out to be. These characters are clingy and desperate and will have sex with any man that gives them a second look. And they are willing to put up with anything in order to keep a man. Sound like an inspirational ideal for a woman to you? me neither.
This is just sad. To dilute once what was a funny, entertaining tv series was bad enough (the movie was really weak), but to do it twice is just pitiful.
It’s all about the money. They clearly don’t have a story to tell, because the movie just rehashed stories from the series.

SJP is Sex & the City. If the movie makes money, she & the writers should split the majority of the money. If you have a problem with the plotlines and character development, I can agree with you there. But SJP manages uniquely to combine allure and glorious comic acting — a very rare thing. What passes for comediennes generally these days is skinny pratfalls. Her grimaces, her irony & sarcasm — priceless!
Back to the plotlines, though, I hope the writers take their cues from the headlines & have Mr. Big experiencing a major financial setback that has them really making it work as people without the 5th Avenue claptrap and designer name-dropping. Style-wise, it would mean Carrie getting back to her inspired wardrobe riffs of vintage & street style, instead of the dopey gowns of later years.
SATC totally sucks…I can’t believe they put so much money into a movie based on a show that makes women look like idiots who are obsessed with men. Carrie’s voiceovers made me wince constantly…and some of the stuff that went down always sorta embarassed me.
I love, love, love, love SATC…but even I think that is too much money for just one person.

It does seem like a ridiculous amount but men have been getting that kind of cash for a long time and often undeservedly. Hello, Vin Diesel….20 mil for xXx, and he got that deal even before Fast and Furious came out. So I’m all for women getting paid.
Never mind SATC2, going by the picture here, she is a shoo in for the Wizard of Oz remake, the wicked witch of course. And think of the money they’ll save on make-up. She’s ready to go.
She is right up there with Lohan for the most talentless ‘actor’ on the planet.
I hope that Carrie finally wakes up and smell the coffee so to speak and divorces Big. The ending to SATC the first movie was horrible. The writer has always potrayed Carrie to be a strong independent woman. He truly did a disservice to the character of Carrie from the series.
I so hope that they will give Charolotte a more meaningful role. She brought nothing to the movie.
Michael Patrick King and SJP bring back the fun characters that we use to know. Have Big cheat on Carrie so she will divorce him.
