For now, Duchess Kate, Prince William and Prince Crumpets are happily ensconced at Nottingham Cottage, which is part of Kensington Palace. They will not be able to move into their luxurious, $1 million-renovated apartment in KP until the fall. It was said – months before Kate gave birth – that they would spend the rest of the summer at Berkshire, with the Middleton family. Or at least Kate and the baby would go there while William finished up the last weeks of his RAF job. Now I’m not so sure. We’ll see. I do think their plans might be in flux at the moment.
So, for now they’re in London, and now their extended families are starting to visit. Yesterday, the baby’s first official visitors were Carole and Michael Middleton, followed by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. Word has come that Queen Elizabeth has now visited (probably “inspected for approval”) her third great-grandchild today:
And now for great-granny! Baby Cambridge woke up in a palace Wednesday and soon afterwards had a visit from a queen. And not just any monarch – this was proud Queen Elizabeth, meeting her great-grandson and third in line to her throne.
The visit, to Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, was the latest for Prince William and Kate’s newborn son, following those of his grandparents, who saw him shortly before he left St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, west London, Tuesday.
The Queen visited the cottage – the couple’s temporary home while their main digs Apartment 1a are being renovated – for about half an hour.
She was seen smiling proudly as she passed reporters at the palace entrance in her distinctive green Bentley.
Many insiders believe the young parents, both 31, might discuss possible names with the 87-year-old as she cooed over the latest addition to the Royal Family, who has yet to be named.
The couple have said that they have had friends texting them names over recent months, but William hinted when they left hospital Tuesday that they were “having a proper catch-up” with him as they decide on a name.
Over at Buckingham Palace, where the Queen was told of the birth of Baby Cambridge in her private apartment Monday, she had been described as “delighted” with the news of the successful delivery. (William and Kate’s newborn is the Queen’s third great-grandchild, following the daughters of William’s cousin, Peter Phillips.)
Her mood was said to be matched throughout the grand corridors of the Palace, where the atmosphere was considered “calm” and one of “excitement” as staffers and members of the family awaited the good news.
“Thrilling,” was how one aide summed it up to PEOPLE.
Meanwhile, PEOPLE has also learned, Prince Harry has been by to meet his nephew.
See, I’m more interested in hearing about how Harry is reacting to having his own little baby nephew to play with. You know Harry LOVES babies and children – he gets that from his mom. Uncle Harry is going to be the best/worst babysitter. Best because he’ll be the first to volunteer to look after his nephew, worst because as this baby grows up, his Uncle Harry is going to get him into loads of trouble. Also: I couldn’t really tell because the baby didn’t have much hair, but I don’t think Baby Crumpets is a ginger. I think he’s going to have Kate’s dark hair.
As for the name game and the Queen’s approval… obviously, they’re not going to name the baby Dwayne or Cullen or CARLOS DANGER. The name is going to be something nice and traditional. James, Edward, George, Michael, Henry, Charles, maybe even John or Thomas. I was wondering yesterday if Alexander is in the mix or if the royal family would consider it too avant-garde.
UPDATE: Oi, so Kate and William traveled to the Middleton family home in Berkshire today. They only spent one night at Nottingham Cottage!

Harry’s a hottie…
I just muttered the same thing to myself… LOL!! He really is cute. And he looks fun!
The ancient Queen should step down. Follow Belgium and Qatar. “Royalty” needs younger people who are relevant. An old hag is NOT relevant. Prince Charles is not relevant. Skip him and put William on the throne.
Actually, royalty and the idea of royalty itself is irrelevant these days.
These people are NOT special just because they were born into certain circumstances. Get a grip people.
Old hag? Jeebus, bitter much?
I love Harry!
yes, yes he is..
I would love to see a photo of Queen Elizabeth and the baby, so cute..
Can Harry babysit me?? 😉
Harry holding a baby is going to send so many women into their ovulation window upon viewing. His charm is incredible!
Me too. And I had very early menopause.
Diana said it once. William would be king, but Harry would be the one getting all the girls. What an eye she had…
What other gossip site is it that refers to him as “Prince Hot Ginge?” I think it’s D-Listed. I get tickled at that and it’s so true.
Awww…a new baby is a blessing and it must be very sweet to see the Queen with her great-grandchild.
And Harry will be the best uncle EVER.
🙂
Agreed!
Oh my god I agree. He can babysit me anytime he wants
God I love Harry. I would marry him and make beautiful ginger babies in a minute, and introduce him to the wonderful world of southern cooking. It’s not even that I find him all that attractive, it’s that cheeky glint in his eye. Just looking at him you can tell that he’s very naughty.
I would love it if he met my little cousin. This boy was RUNNING on his tiptoes at ten months old, and now at three thinks he’s a wrestler and jumps from coffee tables to try and body slam people(his uncle is a wrestler and likes to “play” with his nephew)
I reckon it’s likely going to be a ‘safe’ traditional name. Maybe Biblical? Luke, Matthew, Mark . . .
Call me strange, but I quite like Sebastian.
I love Sebastian – but I still want to call you strange.
I suggested Trumpet Harold Mountbatten DowntheHatches – Prince Trumpsies for short. I feel like they didn’t take me seriously.
ha, I think it was the Trumpsies that threw them off. I say Prince Mountbatten for short. How could you not be taken seriously with a name like Mount?
Join the queue, Jane 🙂
I can’t begin to understand why they didn’t appreciate Trumpsies. It’s so unique. All the other Royals would be falling in line to name their little Prince/ss something similar.
And ‘Mount’ made me think of Monty.
Hehe – Prince Monty.
I am both shocked and disappointed in myself for not seeing the potential with ‘Mount’ anywhere in the name – I may be losing my edge. Ladies, I beg your forgiveness.
However, I intend to have CHemboy renamed as Duke MountCHemboy Quickly and ask him to introduce himself repeatedly. We all know how quickly I will fulfill any request.
And yes, @KaitX – Louis would have made this a real contender, I agree.
Oh boy, so many Full Monty jokes!
Maybe Louis after Mountbatten?
I would love an Alexander. And if it had been a girl, I liked Alexandra or Alexandrina as well.
I would love them to name their child ‘Hayden’ or ‘Skyler’ or ‘Bentley’. But they seem like a couple that are traditionalists. King Otto
I must be slightly dyslexic because I did not read your name correctly. 😀
Oh God! Me too!!!
I wonder, in the end, who really decides the name of a royal heir? Even in modern times. What kind of influence does the sitting monarch have, in those private moments.. And waking up on your first morning in life in a palace, well good for you Baby Crumpets lol. I hope he is the sweetest little boy ever!!
The Queen has to approve, so bottom line is she does. I said in the other thread that I’m now voting for William Jr.. Liam for short.
Name confirmed:
George Alexander Louis
Im so disapointed in their choice, its so incredibly dull!
Hope they call him Alex.
bluhare, I so agree! George for a little boy in 2013? Ugh! This was definitely not Kate’s choice. Must be horrible not to be able to name your first child!
yeah alex should have been the first name
Awwwww…. She looks happy, not grumpy! Maybe because her vacation starts in 2 days.
If she’s at all involved as a parent, she’ll never be on vacation in the same way ever again.
I am thinking “Albert” might be in the mix for names.
Maybe, HRH Prince Albert Henry Alexander of Wales…. then refer to him as Prince Hank!
But what would thrill me, is if they chose a name that had no royal connections. At all.
Hunter, Travis, Taylor, Samuel… or even a Fred. 🙂 A name that gets to be his own.
There is no way on this planet would a future King be known as Prince Hank. Or most of the other names. He will be King and the rules are pretty strict about what he can be called. No trendy names, no biblical names etc. The Queen has to approve the name and she turned down her own son who wanted to call his son Theodore he had to make due with James. I would love for them to go out of the box too but it won’t happen. Maybe the second could be a little more out there.
No biblical names? I would count the number of biblical names throughout the history of the British monarchy but it would take too long.
Hey, why not go all the way, and pick a name that shows that they are “just like us”. I’m thinking, Elvis, Prince, Troy, Dwayne, Kevin, Gary….heh.
Wtf on the nameless baby. They didnt know they were going to have a child? You have a nine month headstart, name your damn baby. Or we Republicans will just start calling him Prince Damn Baby. Prince Damn Baby is still young and cute but still represents a front to meritocracy. Because of Prince Damn Baby I cant tell my Peasant Baby that he can be ANYTHING, because clearly he cant.
I know plenty of couples who thought they had a name picked out and then decided it didn’t suit once the baby arrived. When my son was born (prematurely), the twins in the space next to him in the NICU were nameless for over a week. The nurses had to call them Baby A and Baby B.
Our friends had premie twins that just turned 1 this past weekend. We found out at the party that one of the boys wasn’t named for 4 days after the birth. They just got stuck for some reason with the second naming.
I am with you Jo on the prince damn baby, just name it already but maybe this Irish girl just cant get over the fact that the hubs ancestral family home was burnt down by prince damn baby forefathers in the 1920’s.
I wonder if these untalented over indulged “nobles” have any conception of how much of their wealth came to be? How much pain their ancestors caused on four different continents. That some of that pain is still being caused today by “Her Majestys Government”. DBags is what they are. All of em.
Lol… name your damn baby! 😀
They most likely have a name picked, but they can’t announce it until after they present it to the queen, get her approval etc.
Who knows, maybe they told her and she shot down their first pick. Charles wasn’t named for a month, William for a week-so it’s not out of the ordinary in terms of the royal family.
+1
How about Alexander Albert Louis?
Sounds nice.
Jo — you have to remember the tradition. When William was born, his name was not announced for 7 days.
They have the name picked out. It is just not public yet.
My money is on Johnathon or James
Sure he can. There are lots of Crown Princesses around nowadays. All he has to do is marry one like Kate did or that guy Daniel in Sweden did!!
Dude, this happens with normal couples all the time. My parents had a name all set and ready for my younger sister, but every time they looked at her, they ended up calling her the planned middle name instead of the planned first name. So my sister didn’t have an official name for several days as my parents decided whether to go with the plan or switch it up to what felt natural. Plus, there are so many people and connotations to consider with a royal name.
I can’t say much on the peasant vs. prince baby because I’m American, so I just sit back and enjoy the spectacle.
I think they’re toying with the media for the drama factor and control. Everything has to be a big production. Give the rabble what they want. Just like the co-ordinated outfits yesterday, and the carefully choreographed photo op right up to the ‘down to earth’ prince doing the chauffeuring for his missus and kid.
Remember when they withheld the name of their dog? Sheesh.
And the manipulation is working, no?
I am happy for Kate and William. In addition to the normal happiness that parents feel upon the birth of their child, I wonder if she feels a sense of relief as well – that she’s fulfilled a duty. I think Kate will make a great Mom and the world will get a chance to see a different side of her. I’ve always thought she was an introvert and I don’t know how I would manage having to “perform” so often. I would say as little as possible and minimize my public appearances.
Kate can’t feel relief yet. She needs to have an heir and a spare at least 😉
Alexander is one of the hot favourites for his name it is very Royal. It could never be a Mark, Luke etc they aren’t Royal names. There is a small list and some of those names like John are considered bad luck. George, James, Philip and Alexander are all hot favourites. James however has a bit of glitch as it’s Kates brothers name and it’s Prince Edwards sons name. Philip would be cool after his great Grandfather and there is of course George. Which was the name of the Queens father (well he was King George)
I like Alexander as well and there is definitely precedent. There was a Queen Alexandra, wife of Edward VII. And I agree about John. Didn’t Diana like the name for William or Harry (can’t remember which), but Charles or Queen said no?
I also can’t see James – because of James Middleton, but also because the last King James was deposed in 1688 – and there hasn’t been one since.
I go for George or Alexander or Philip – with Charles as one of the middle names.
Alexander is too Russian
Alexander is Russian, but it is also Scottish. There were Scots kings called Alexander – actually there were 3 of them. There were also Scots kings called David and Robert. And it is the United Kingdom, which includes Scotland.
So it is a possibility. I think George more likely though.
Queen Victoria’s first name was Alexandrina. Still too Russian?
I was shot down when I mentioned Alexander (am I looking at you, FLORC? Can’t remember. 🙂 ), so have now changed it to William.
I vote Carlos Danger as the winning name for sure!;-)
LOL
Oh for heaven’s sake, why not Kanye Elvis? King Kanye has a very distinctive ring to it, don’t you think? 🙄
Arthur George, after the Kardashian Sock line..:P That would be awesome!
Ewww… I wanted Arthur and you killed it for me. Cruel!
You wanted Arthur?? She gave birth to an infant……not an 80 year old retiree
I’m with OK. My dad was Arthur and he was an 80 year old retiree. 🙂
Although it does bring up some cool sword in the stone imagery.
They should go way back and do Egbert or Aethelwulf. or maybe Welsh with Llywelyn, Dafydd, or Owain.
BTW – Culen was a Scottish King in the 900’s. And since the Queen is so fond of Scotland they could go with Duncan or Malcolm. Both Scottish Kings.
Dafydd makes me think he’d be the only gay in the village….
hahaha, Little Britain!
Aww, I love the names Llywelyn & Dafydd. My husband & I already have our hypothetical sons named: William Llywelyn & Caleb Dafydd, after the Welsh Princes who were brothers. Of course, we have to actually have kids to really name said children 😉
The baby should just have a symbol and go by the baby formerly known as Prince. —I read this on another site.
I bet the Queen is good with babies, she looks like she’d just relax and enjoy.
No they aren’t going to give the child some U-Neek name like, North Brumby Apple Inpesktor Jaquar Lexus Cool as Hell Cambridge.
Apparently the queen has to approve the name. Shouldn’t be an issue since it wasn’t going to be anything strange anyway.
no, it´s said that the Queen doesn´t like babies and toddlers. She likes kids when they are older. Back in the day she found William and Harry too loud and badly behaved. She waits till the kids are older, then she spends time with them.
I found out from The Daily Mail yesterday that the Queen actually vetoed her son Edward’s name choice of Theodore for his son! How crazy is that??! And his son wouldn’t even come close to being King.
Good for the queen.
I think they are at or heading to the Middleton estate now, no longer in London.
I will always wonder if Kate and Prince Harry exchanged “meaningful looks” when he saw Crumpets for the first time, if indeed he was there last night.
It’s so obvious that she’s besotted with Wills even after all this time.
don’t think he is besotted to her though, she was like a leech hanging on and he had to give in. Don’t think she is truly his choice !
How about Cole — it’s ancient and modern-sounding at the same time, and King Cole has a nice ring to it (or will when he gets old).
Ha ha. Good one.
Does anyone know where the Duke of Edinburgh is?
He’s at Windsor Castle. I hope he’s not worse than they would have us believe, but he’s 92.
I don’t know why but I’m getting a strong “James” vibe.
I was a big fan of Arthur until I realized the poor kid would end up as King Arthur, and there are just way too many jokes to be made with that.
I’ve got a bad feeling it’s going to be George, and I just think that is such a meh name.
Alexander isn’t too far-fetched seeing that our own Queen is also Alexandra and Queen Alexandra was a beloved Consort and Victoria’s first name was Alexandrine.
The Duke of Gloucester’s eldest son is Alexander.
There is also Frederick, Nicholas and Louis to choose from if they decide to honour wider [and European] family members.
I am still hoping for Philip.
I’m with you, Philip is my #1 choice as well. I don’t know how likely it is, but here’s hoping!
He’s certainly a darling little boy. I’m happy for them both. I read a list of girls names they liked, I think they thought it was a girl. I also heard they were on their own, no help. I guess tradition is the baby is taken to the queen, not the other way around. Lot of new traditions started with this little one. She visited him.
Yeah they knew it was a boy but they wanted it to be a surprise for the public and royal tradition. If they said they knew but weren’t gonna tell, they would have been hounded by everyone. I read a few articles in magazines about blue clothing, sheets, prams etc being delivered to the home/palace accompanied with pictures. 75% of couples find out the sex and I reckon they were one of them.
Guess that means that when that kid gave her that toy and she said, “thanks, I’ll take it for my d-“, she really meant ‘dog’! She wouldn’t have said ‘daughter’!
I can’t help but think of Diana and how much she would have loved being a grand mother. Yet another milestone in her child’s life that she had to miss 🙁
I was thinking the same thing. It must be rough on him not to share this special time with her.
I’m a Very Bad Person, because when Diana as grandma is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is the absolutely epic bitch fight between her and Carole over the baby.
yes, you can thank the step-grandmother for that !
What, was Camilla driving the car? She’s no saint but no need to blame her for Diana’s death.
And Diana could have been indifferent too. Older, sophisticated, “living” with an uber wealthy man. Happy for her son and daughter and law. Chatty with her children but not necessarily up for baby sitting gigs either. (Think Rosalind Russell as Auntie Mame.)
I’m not saying that she would have been like “Georgie, you’ve getting spittle on granny’s suit.” but riding on the back of unicorns and sliding down rainbows . . . maybe not.
Just my two cents – there’s no way they will name him “John” – England has had just one King John, and his legacy is pretty terrible (even though he wasn’t actually an awful king, despite the Robin Hood legends.)
Johns in the royal family have had bad luck. The queens uncle John died young of epilepsy. Never John.
Agreed.
Well, that rules out one name 😉
I have to side with the “George” predictions. I think they’ll avoid Edward (as a first name, anyway) because of the associations with Edward VII.
Prince Charles’ middle names include Arthur, Philip, and George, and William also has Arthur and Philip in there. Which makes all of those strong contenders.
And Michael – Kate’s dad’s name – is a good bet, especially since St. Michael is so revered in British myth.
This baby is going to have so many names.
The queen named her own son Edward so she couldn’t have been too worried about the Edward VIII connection.
Did y’all hear they are already in buckleberry!
Philip. Prince Philip has been unwell so who knows how much longer he’ll be around. A King Philip would be a fitting tribute to honor decades of service and supporting the Queen. William went to visit him by himself not long ago. To cheer him up by telling him about the name?
@IPL – I would love that too! Philip – what a fitting tribute 🙂
That’s the best reason for Philip ever. He’s an obnoxious old guy but he’s done well by the Queen.
he should rule the country, says what 95% of the country think !!
I doubt John will be the first name – dark connotations in English history with that one – King John who was forced to sign Magna Carta and sons of Edward VII (in 1870s) and George V (in 1919) named John both died when they were children. The last King James, a 17th century monarch, fled the country in fear of his life but it is a good name.
I’m going to go with Philip Arthur Michael Charles. Philip to honor William’s grandfather – Even tho the last King Philip was the Spanish husband of Bloody Mary, who later sent the Armada against England and Elizabeth I.
Good history. I agree about all the names except Michael. They won’t let the heir be named after a commoner. Will and Kate will give it to the next child. I think Philip Charles Arthur George.
I think it will be Theodore Ulysses Patrick Arthur Charles, or “Tupac” for short.
I am surprised none of you wants it to be named Benedict.
Knee slapping LOL!!
Nah..Hiddles or Fassdong would be more in keeping.
Awww, I know the feeling. One of the happiest days of my life was the day I first saw my little grandson.
I wonder how many new mothers are alrdy planning how to make their little girls meet the next heir in university.
My best friend has a two month old and i immediately texted her after little Prince George was born and joked that she should move to London and get the matchmaking ball rolling
LOL, but I think Wallis Simpson has ruined it for any American woman to have a shot at becoming a British duchess, princess or queen consort.
@aquarius64 maybe north west will still try to get a shot hahaha
how nice it would be to be a new mom with nothing to do other than focus on your baby. Someone else does the shopping, the laundry, the cleaning, the dishes, your hair and makeup!… that must be blissful heaven.
George Alexander Louis
I hear the baby’s named George?
Yep – official british monarchy Facebook page (gosh that’s weird haha) announced his name as George Alexander Louis which is great, my 15 year old brother is called George! We call him Georgy, I wonder if they will haha
In this area (Virginia/Maryland/Washington, DC), we have a “Prince George” county and a ‘Prince Georges” county, so a very old name the colonists seemed to like and the first US President was a George, so again, very popular back in the way, way back day.
George Alexander Louis
Do they pronounce it Loo-isss, or Loo-eeey? I’m assuming not the French pronunciation? I still don’t know how to pronounce Louis C.K.
Loo-e
louis is pronounced the french way
Lewis is the english/scottish way
Really? They’d pronounce “Louis” it the French way? In the U.S., Louis is pronounced “lou-is,” like “Lewis.”
Wonder why only 3 names rather than 4?
George Alexander Louis
George Alexander Louis – good names and have a nice ring to it.
I’m surprised they didn’t give any name in honour of the DoE, Charles, and Michael Middleton.
George is a middle name of Charles and Louis also one of Williams middle names comes from Lord Louis Mountbattan Charles favourite uncle who was murdered by the IRA… Charles did pretty well 🙂
My nephew is called Alexander and as an archaeologist (mediterranean cultures) I absolutely love that name. I approve ^^.
I love that so many cultures historically and in the modern day have variations of the name Alexander! Mostly because the female version is my name haha
I guess the queen dropped in to name the baby…now onto vacation!
What??!! No Philip in the mix at all?? 🙁
And yes, the fact that I am disappointed by what other people chose to name their baby disappoints me.
it’s not too late to slide philip in as the fourth name for my friend in my head, the duke of edinburgh
George is an old man name. Sorry.
Philip would have been a lot better!!!
George is a sturdy name. He is a baby now but he won’t always be a baby. They can call him Georgie if they want.
His nickname could be Alex, or Zander.
The popularity of baby names changes over time. Names from early in the past century have regained popularity, and we can now add George to the list. I like the name, but I may be biased. It’s my father’s name and my ancestors are from Cambridge, so Prince George of Cambridge is fine by me!
hope not ugh
I actually LOVE the name George. I think it’s just a precious name for a little boy, and it’s one that will sound appropriate when he is older. I think they did a great job naming him.
Baby Crumpets was cooler 🙁
HRH Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, welcome to the world. When he comes to the throne he will be King George VII.
I figured the baby’s name would have a regal lineage; afterall this is a future king. Given the social climbing rep the Middletons have, I wonder if they are miffed that the prince wasn’t named after anyone on Kate’s side? James is the duchess’ brother, but it would have worked because there were several King James’ of Scotland and England.
Actually, he will probably be George VIII. I’m pretty sure when Charles is king he is going by George.
The previous King Charles’ legacy is probably not one he wishes to pick up and continue with.
I dont know, Charles II had a bit of fun 😉
@Jade – I hope they will not do as Carol M. I think she did with Kate luxury call girl, people laughed with her and called her a Royal Mattress but Carol told her to ignore it because she wanted Prince.
