God, I love Rebel Wilson. I think it’s an interesting/smart career choice for her to try an American network comedy show – coming this fall, she’s the star of ABC’s Super Fun Night, which has her playing a lawyer (!!) with a terrible personal life. Whenever she tries to go out and have fun, disaster ensues. It looks like a cute show, and it will be interesting to see how audiences react. I suspect that even if the show isn’t that great, Rebel will get critical support and the show will find an audience. Or I could be totally wrong and the show will bomb. We’ll see. Anyway, Rebel is featured in the new issue of Cosmo (the one with Nina Dobrev on the cover), and she’s hilarious as always. She even finds time to shade Reese Witherspoon!
Lots of embarrassing things happen to your character on the show. Are any of them inspired by real-life events?
“Oh my god, yeah. I’ll often use my real stuff in my writing because it comes across as more authentic. There’s a scene where my dress rips, and something like that happened when I first came to America. I got set up on a lunch with Jason Segel. He was the first Hollywood person that I got to have lunch with and chat about life with or whatever . So I thought, I’ll try to look my best, and I wore my best leather jacket. When I sat down, a sharp edge on the chair snagged my jacket, and it just ripped. I was devastated but trying to hide it because I didn’t want to ruin the lunch. I’m always ripping clothing. It’s so embarrassing.”She’s the Friend Zone girl: “I’m more of the girl who’s always in the friend zone, and I try to help if my other friend wants to get with someone. I can be a bit cheeky and say stuff that embarrasses my friends, but I’m normally the girl who guys like to be friends with, so I become friendly with the guy and then go, “Oh, this is my other friend.””
When you’re with friends at a bar or a party, how do you approach guys you like?
“My character on the show and her friends are kind of dorky and socially awkward. And even though, yea, now I am in movies or whatever, I am still that girl. People think you’re really confident because you’re an actress or whatever, but I’m like the worst. Although the good thing about being recognizable is that people approach me, which is good. Also, I watch that show Millionaire Matchmaker, and they say the girl should never approach the guys.”Activities that are not fun:
“Trying on bikinis at a shopping mall… Entering novice fight tournaments (if you get punched in the face, you’ll instantly see why this is not fun.)… Eating at an unlicensed food truck. As a rule, carefully vet all street-meat options ahead of time….Going out to any place you think you won’t get in. Exclusivity and/or over-crowding is not Super Fun. You don’t want to go there anyway. Stuff them!”Things to wear on a super fun night:
“Sportswear. If there’s a sudden need for a burst of cardio (e.g. running away from someone you really want to avoid), at least you’ll be ready….Underwear. Just wear it. Always… Draw attention to your best assets. Don’t be afraid to use a strategically placed LED light to point the way….A high ponytail. It looks banging. It keeps you from overheating, and it looks mad cool in head-swinging dance moves.”Rebel: “In the pilot, my character gets invited to drinks, but she can’t get into the club—that happened to me recently at Skybar. Anna Kendrick was having her birthday party there, and it was a fancy place. So I get there with Hana Mae Lee from Pitch Perfect, and I’ve got a birthday gift so I’m clearly going to the party, and this big huge bouncer wouldn’t even look us in the face. We were like, ‘Hi’…and then two models came and he let them in.”
Cosmo: Did you pull the “Do you know who I am” card?
Rebel: “I didn’t pull the Reese Witherspoon [laughs]. He had a list, and I said, ‘Excuse me, we’re on the list. We’re here for Anna Kendrick’s birthday party.’ And then, eventually, he’s like ‘Okay, what’s your name?’”
You can read much more from Rebel’s amazing interview here – she’s a really great interview. Especially for a comedian. I mean that many comedians are incredibly serious people in real life, but I get the feeling that Rebel in real life is a lot like Rebel on stage or in character – she’s cheesy and funny and she has a wonderful sharp wit. I LOVE HER.

LOVE HER!
wow. Rebel’s come a long way from being Toula on “Fat Pizza”. Good on her, thrilled at her Hollywood success.
This girl is my friend crush.
Rebel actually has her law degree, so this show isn’t going to be a far fetch for her at all. I seriously watch pitch perfect once a week (down from every day, haha) and even though I know she’s coming, she still makes me laugh.
I’ll never forget when she was on Conan and she wore a certain necklace that was huge and gold. It said B*tch (uncensored) in script, and Conan complimented her on the necklace. Her response? “Thanks, it was my grandmothers.” /dead
Can you tell I love her?!
OMG I just spit out my chocolate milk! So funny!
New favorite story! That’s amazing.

Here’s the link to the interview, ladies. She is just…wonderful. I feel like we could be besties.
She has a law degree! That is so interesting.
I LOVE her, too. She’s so funny and down to earth. I love that she says EXACTLY what’s on her mind.
ha, love her. she’d be a cool person to hang out with..
I like her too. The “Activities that aren’t fun” bit is very funny.
I love her too. I hope her show does really well.
I love the shade she threw on Reese…I like her, she’s really funny. She’s really pretty too….I think people don’t notice/downplay it because she’s supposed to be the funny chick. She’s got great bone structure and I love her lips.
I adore her as well. I will definitely watch the show. I wish I could be friends with her IRL. I love her interviews…she really does just have such a great “roll with the punches” wit about her.
<3
I love her. Seriously. I know she does make comments about her body in a self deprecating manner sometimes but I really appreciate that her comedy doesn’t rely *just* on that and she’s smart-funny *and* wtf-funny.
She’s hilarious and so talented! Love her!
Rebel Wilson is AWESOME.
She sooooo pretty. I just want her to smile at me.
I love her. Like, I know every word she said during Pitch Perfect in my sleep hahah.
Clubs are so disgusting, how they won’t let you in if you don’t look a certain wait. Glad she doesn’t take it so personally because she’s soo much better than that.
Sorry, gonna be the first but I can’t stand her. Annoying as hell and I am sorry—lose some weight, not healthy nor attractive and she just show cases it. Sorry, you put yourself out there for all to see. ANNOYING! Everyones just too damn scared to say anything bad because she is overweight. Please.
Wow, harsh much? She actually has lost quite a bit of weight and looks fantastic. Beauty is from the inside out and this girl is glowing.
I love her. But as a big girl myself I will say that’s why she’s in the friend zone. It’s hard being big in the regular world I can’t imagine it in Hollywood. Luckily I found somebody when I was bigger and he has been fine with me losing 60.
@roxy, I thought I was the only person on the planet who didn’t care for her, glad to see there’s someone else out there. I’ve never really gotten why people like her so much. Is it the fact that she is a big girl who is making it in Hollywood and people want to support her? That’s a serious question and not meant to be a jab at her weight.
Nope, it’s because many people find her hilarious, and she seems down to earth and doesn’t take any crap from anyone.
I met her once. She is very nice.
i cannot WAIT to see her show for realz like every time the commercial comes up i dance my booty off along with her lol
I’m going to try this show for sure! It’s been a long time since I’ve started and enjoyed a new sitcom!
She’s a blast 🙂
i love her and hope she is successful! hollywood needs more girls like her.
Mmmhmm. Okay.
Gah I love her. I want to be friends with her. And she has the prettiest skin!
i love that she said, ‘no i didn’t pull the reese witherspoon’
millionaire matchmaker said women shouldn’t approach men. I look a lot like rebel, although she has much better hair-and if I didn’t approach men I’d still be single. that saying that ‘all women have the love life they want’ I think the more accurate phrase is, ‘all thin beautiful women have the love life they want’
Also, I watch that show Millionaire Matchmaker, and they say the girl should never approach the guys.
I know she’s joking, but argh. Hopefully her show will have some jokes about how stupid this advice is.
I wouldn’t be married now if I hadn’t approached the guy. And I would not have had any boyfriends before that if I hadn’t. Not to mention being laid a lot less. Insecure, reactionary guys don’t like it when women approach them, but that’s another reason to be the one to do it, to weed out those idiots.
In the 1940s, my grandmother approached my grandfather and it was no big thing. We have gone backwards.
I love her lines in pitch perfect. She’s really the only funny thing in that movie. Sorry guys I watched it again and it was kinda boring only shear me laugh.
I wanna use her crystal meth line.
Rebel went to law school back in Sydney. She is technically a lawyer
