Jennifer Lawrence’s Vogue cover & preview: gorgeous or undeserved?

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence covers the September issue of Vogue, which is (of course) the huge fall fashion issue, and because I’m a JLaw-loonie, the atmosphere at this particular laptop is one of abject excitement. First off, I have to praise the fact that (unlike in her Vogue UK spread) there are no awful, 1970s winged bangs at play here. Bangs in and of themselves do not offend me, but winged ones tell me that girlfriend hasn’t had her hair trimmed in some time. So I am (to be perfectly shallow) quite pleased that JLaw is keeping up with her regular trims despite her terribly busy schedule.

Naturally, the very mention of the word “busy” reminds me to warn those of you who are tired of Jennifer’s so-called “overexposure” to buckle down and prepare for the annual onslaught of publicity. Girlfriend will soon be promoting Catching Fire (which releases in November), and she’s probably going to get some attention next Oscar season for her supporting role in American Hustle.

In the meantime, I’d like to draw attention to the amazing cover image that is very fall-like in apperance and also features Jennifer wearing … wait for it … Calvin Klein. While we can’t see the entire outfit, I’m thrilled at the hint of Calvin on this cover because dude completely knows how to dress JLaw’s body. Also, the cover is very fresh and doesn’t look overly made-up or photoshopped while (most importantly) JLaw is not smiling, which (admittedly) often makes her look awkward. Yes, I’m saying it — JLaw looks best with an open mouth. Suck it, Miley Cyrus.

However, I’m not so sure about this “preview” image from the editorial. Why so blurry, Vogue editors?

Jennifer Lawrence

Just for kicks, here’s a visual reminder of how amazing JLaw usually looks in Calvin Klein. I do hope that the editorial fully reveals the outfit on the cover.

I love Jennifer Lawrence, but there’s also something about her that I don’t get at all..her face..she looks like a villager with that face…

    • Anna says:

Her face isn’t special at all and sometimes when she wears makeup her face looks dirty instead of made up. It drives me nuts

    • RocketMerry says:

I find her face is unusual but really pretty. She conveys such emotion, even in still pictures: that cover is gorgeous.

This girl definitely grew on me in the past year or so: her interviews and the way she behaves just add to the prettiness.

      • Liv says:

I agree with you, I think she’s pretty. Don’t know what people expect though. I mean we all know that different people find different people beautiful, but these comments about her not being that pretty – I don’t get it.

I wouldn’t even say about Rooney Mara or Olivia Wilde that they are not pretty and I can’t stand these girls (makes me find people uglier than they actually are when I dislike them 😉 ).

      • Meegs says:

She is pretty, but I have to disagree with you on your assertion that she displays “so much emotion”. I don’t think she does at all — when she smiles with her mouth, nothing is going on in the eyes. She’s not playful or flirty or engaging, again because she doesn’t involve her eyes.

    • Elvie says:

It took me forever to figure out what was a bit strange about her face… she looks like a cabbage patch doll. I do think she’s pretty though.

    • Kim says:

Shes very meh looking. Her profile esp her chin area is awful. Elvie, great call -She does look like a cabbage patch doll!

  2. Dawn says:

I like her and think that yes, she is young and beautiful and hip and has an Oscar already to her credit. I think the photos are great and she deserves all the good things coming her way! I only hope she can stay normal and not buy into her press too much and has a nice long career.

  3. Amber says:

    *sigh* I love her.

  4. HQ says:

Her ’11 Oscar dress was jaw dropping! I don’t think she’s ever looked better. Hope her stylist has learned to dress her in CK because I don’t want her to look tragic during the HG publicity tour.

    • Anne says:

I agree. Jennifer was first on the Red Carpet in 2011 and no one else looked as good as she did all night. Very impressive. Looking for her to top the 2011 pick in 2014.

  5. Jackson says:

I’m certainly no model fan-girl and I like JL, but I still wish only models were on the cover of Vogue. Anybody remember that? And this JL cover is definitely not making me change my mind. I do really like the black and white pic tho.

    • Dana says:

I completely agree. I have stopped buying magazines because of this, which bums me out because back in the day I bought Vogue, Elle, and this great mag called Taxi and would hang the pictures on my walls.

      • Janet says:

I remember Taxi. That was a great magazine. Too bad it never caught on.

American Vogue has become a total waste of trees. The international editions are much better. British Vogue is still good and so is Spanish Vogue (if you can find it).

      • DSS says:

Oddly enough I kept all my Taxi issues.

    • Nev says:

      WORD!

American Vogue is the last one I’m excited about each month now. Sadly.

      • Liberty says:

Weird. My friends and I were just talking about this last night — how American Vogue fell off our lists some time ago. Brit or French or Italian Vogue, I’ll buy, among Brit mags I love and V, ELLE UK, etc.

I wish Andre Leon Talley would take over from AW. He was my last reason to buy it.

    • Janet says:

Anna Wintour has single-handedly managed to destroy a great magazine. I cancelled my subscription years ago.

    • lucy says:

AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY with Jackson, Dana, Nev, Janet. I was faithful to Vogue for decades until Wintour ruined it, and as a result I’ve even declined FREE subscriptions to it BECAUSE OF Wintour’s lousy vision and sensibilities. Now I only ever buy shelter mags, – nothing at all with mainstream celebs or fashion because there’s no ‘there’ there. The past 15 years of so-called fashion mags are repetitious humdrum snoozes with bland oversaturated so-called celebrities and actresses instead of models. (And the photoshopping is HORRENDOUS!)

This was a sea change for me and I miss the iconic inspirational photography and models that made Vogue welcome in my household for decades.

I am gratified to know that other former Vogue-lovers recognize this is missing in the fashion mag marketplace and hold dull Wintour responsible for the current mediocre landscape of offerings.

      TAXI is also missed…!

      • Janet says:

“Seven Minutes to a Better Body”?! On the cover?! Diana Vreeland would be spinning in her grave.

      • paige says:

        great observations…
        everything that lucy said!

      • Liberty says:

        yes yes yes

      • TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

        Yes, to everyone above; put models – there are striking ones out there – on the covers; Vogue was so much better in the 80s/90s supermodel era;
Best Vogue cover imho: Vogue Paris 1992 with Elaine Irwin and Tatjana Patiz (sic) blows this ordinary girl right off the cover.
        Remember, conglomerates, that include entertainment congloms, own everything now, and you’re seeing the effect in fashion, music, etc.;

  6. Anelise says:

Hey, look at me, I am so down to earth and acting like I don’t give a damn and so clumsy, not like the other huge stars.
Like me, pleaseee because I am so different!!!

    • psb says:

Has it ever crossed your mind that maybe, *maybe* that’s how she is? And that she’s not ‘acting’?

      • angie says:

no, don’t say that you would crush some people’s dream that Jennifer Lawrence is an actress that has been created entirely by Hollywood to manipulate the population into submission. lol

    • Dani says:

Are you a Kristen Stewart fan?

A lot of their rants against Jennifer Lawrence involve the comment you just made.

      • Evyn says:

        @Dani
Yep. They also excuse Kstew’s rude & aloof behavior because “she’s just shy.”

      • Bubbles says:

You know, I’m not a KStew fan at all, but she would be crucified if she did some of the things JLaw did. Flipping the bird, homophobic comments, smoking pot, etc.

      • bns says:

Well I hate Kristen Stewart and I was thinking the same thing as Anelise so there goes that theory.

    • Spooks says:

I like her, but she is so overproduced to the point that it stopped being that believable. And she did not deserve an Oscar for SLP. Winter’s Bone was much better. It feels like she got it because she was the “it” girl.
I usually find her plain, but that black and white photo is awesome.
And how did KStew get in this discussion?

      • bluecalling says:

this happens a bit. You don’t get it the previous year because you’re black (Denzel), young (jlaw) ior whatever then they give it to you the next year for something not as good… she should have gotten it for winters bone so she is very deserving.

      • Liv says:

Like blucalling said, the Oscars are never fair. I’d even say that most actors and actresses get their Oscar for projects which weren’t their best work.

Besides there was an article this year which focused on how many jury members just vote for the people they like. Not Jennifer Lawrence’s fault.

      • ctkat1 says:

Matt Damon gave a quote somewhere that there should be a five year gap between when the films come out and when the Oscars are voted upon, and I totally agree. People get caught up in the RIDICULOUS studio campaigns and the most deserving performances/films often don’t win. With 5 years perspective, the Academy can look back and see what still holds up.

      • mayamae says:

I really liked her in The Burning Plain. I really liked Charlize Theron in it too – I usually find her very cold.

    • TheCountess says:

+1 Anelise (and for the record, I can’t stand Kristen Stewart either).

    • Harriet says:

@Anelise I’m with you on this one. @psb if that is the way she actually is, and it isn’t all an act- I can’t stand her even more! What an irritating human being!

    • angie says:

er, may be it’s not an act at all?
how do you know she is faking it exactly?
and if you can’t stand her what are you doing reading an article about her anyway?
you kind sound obsessed with her and brimming with jealousy.JMO.
And if she is faking her personality, i must say i will be impressed because she has managed to fool a great number of people for someone of mediocre acting ability as some of her haters would want you to believe, and she has been doing so consistently since her winter bones days, i mean her first dp 30 interview back in 2010 was obviously a fake one designed to manipulate you into liking her even though nobody watch it back then.*rolls eyes*

      • blaize says:

This argument is funny! I love a good cyberfeud between fans and non-fans.

I’m not a JLaw fan, but I don’t dislike her either. From what I’ve seen of her so far, I don’t think she’s a big phony or that this is all an act. I do, however, think she sounds a little delusional here.

I don’t have anything against Kristen Stewart either- I don’t know enough about her to like or dislike her. To me she comes off as kind of moody, but that just may be a natural part of her personality that has nothing to do with her being famous.

Either way, I don’t expect celebrities (or anyone) to be perfect, so a little bit of delusion on Jennifer’s part or moodiness on Kristen’s part is not enough for me to really dislike either one of them. I know there have been times in my own life when I’ve been delusional or moody. (Mostly moody 🙂
But it’s kind of funny when people assume that they know a stranger is completely fake. I’m kind of with Angie on this one.

  7. Bodhi says:

I think she seems like a really fun person & she’d probably be a blast to hang out with, but I just don’t see this ethereal beauty that people keep talking about. I think she is cute, but thats about it

  8. amanda says:

Anyway who says her vogue cover is undeserved is crazy. Its a stupid question. The vogue sept cover is supposed to be the biggest seller thus they reserve it for the biggest star of the year. Jennifer won the oscar at 22, is the highest paid star under 30, has a ton of movies still coming out this year… its a no brainer who the top actress is at the moment. Giving her the cover seems almost like an afterthought.

  9. Deedee says:

    Gorgeous. Nuff said.

  10. Rania says:

Damn, she’s gorgeous. And her eyes…wow.

  11. Dani says:

The open mouth poses irk me to no end.

    • Heather says:

Same…every single photo shoot now, ugh. I think Jlaw looks almost perfect, had she shut her mouth it would have been.

  12. kibbles says:

This has to be one of the most beautiful covers I’ve seen of Jennifer. I love it and I’m not a Jlaw-loonie. She looks most beautiful just natural and not completely dolled up with lots of makeup and haute couture. I want to take this cover to the salon and tell the hair dresser to give me her hairdo on this cover. Perfect look for the fall.

  13. Melissa says:

Since I’m one of those people who got tired of J-Law (and not fawning over her), I must admit that I LOVE the cover and will pick up this Vogue issue whenever it hits my local Walgreens. I unsubscribed a few years ago and has not looked back, but I will buy this and see how I feel. Hope the editorial is interesting and the interview too.

    Love her body!

  14. Anname says:

She will be everywhere with Catching Fire’s release and awards season. She seems to be over exposed and will probably experience some backlash. People get tired of hearing about how great she is. I like her, she is clearly talented, and has a fun personality. But I’m not running out to buy this Vogue issue.

Anyone else think her waist looks ridiculously thin in the b&w photo?

    • mimi says:

      +1

I couldn’t agree with you more, Anname.

    • De-Vine says:

Agreed. She is gorgeous but her waiste looks disturbingly and unnaturally thin in that pic.

    • angie says:

everybody gets backlash at one time or another anyway, especially when they get popular as fast as she did.*shrugs*
I just hope she continues to work hard and choose her movie projects carefully, and of course, hopefully she does not change her awesome sense of humor, fun and charisma it’s what makes her stand out IMO.

    • Raquel says:

It could have been airbrushed though. Just look at it again–it has a very ‘unbelievably edited’ photo appearance, especially next to non-Vogue shots of Lawrence. That nasty shrew Anna Wintour makes no apologies for declaring that excessively thin women are the most beautiful. So, that might have more to do with her, than Lawrence.

When Lawrence was at ComicCon, she looked tiny, but ‘fit’ tiny. Like, she had been in training to film a physically active role like Mystique. I noticed that she drops weight when she trains for those roles, and gains it back when she doesn’t. I do similar fluctuations when I train for marathons.

    • Pastyousayyouneverknew says:

@Anname +1 Overexposure is kinda why I can’t deal with Miley Cyrus right now. (Now hold on, J-Law fans, I’m a fan of Jennifer’s and I see all of her stuff, not saying she’s like Miley) but the fact that Miley is everywhere right now – all over the Internet, all over the radio, all over TV, is making me super sick of her, like, her song is a dumb pop song, it doesn’t warrant the hatred that I have for it (and her atm) but overexposure can definitely be a bad thing and I really hope it doesn’t result in backlash for J-Law cuz I adore her.

    • mayamae says:

In The Hunger Games there was a scene in which they’re practicing for the game that she had a very slim, small waist. I remember thinking that people complained that she was “too fat” to play Katniss.

  15. Love this cover SO much, she looks stunning! And it’s very well-deserved IMO. I don’t think she’s been on the cover of Vogue US before and as the current queen of Young Hollywood she definitely deserves it.

  16. Suse says:

    she´s no model

  17. Vee says:

She is a breathe of fresh air! Love her and her many different looks. She is one of a kind.

  18. Nev says:

    Meh. Oh Vogue.

  19. Tessa says:

She’s hot, and has great skin and a fabulous bone structure. She has great lips too. Is she the most beautiful girl ever? No, absolutely not. But I think that’s what makes her so great in movies. She can play a real person. You can believe her as a human being.

    • Sugar says:

it’s great to see a young actress who seems level. I’m old enough to have seen Meryl Streep in the theater when The Deer Hunter came out. She may have then been around Jennifer’s age now & she was so beautiful in a different way to me than the big names back then. She went on to become the great well respected highly talented actress we all know today. No pressure Jennifer but I think you could be your generations great actress.

      • Liv says:

I just saw The House Of The Spirits with Streep, she was so young back then! Great film.

And I also think that Jennifer’s really talented. Time will show if she will have the career Meryl has achieved.

      • Drea says:

@Liv: LOL. Meryl Streep was 44 years old when she was in The House of the Spirits, so she wasn’t really “so young”.

It goes to show what a great actress she is – Streep played her character aging from early 20’s to old age and made it believable w/o much camera trickery to help her.

      • Liv says:

        Haha, really?! 😉

Okay, let’s say she seemed so young. That explains why her sister in the film looks younger, I was slightly confused 🙂

  20. bns says:

    Overrated

  21. bubbles says:

Love Jennifer Lawrence. I liked the Rolling Stones cover she did last year better though.

  22. bettyrose says:

I’ve said it before, but this girl is old school Hollywood glam. Very few actresses her age can pull off her presence and “larger than life” persona. With her I think “beautiful,” “timeless,” not “you’re acting like a 22 year old. Grow up.”

    • Pastyousayyouneverknew says:

Don’t know if I agree, I think she can be very pretty (depending on make up/styling) but I don’t think she’s beautiful in the way you’re describing, just my opinion.

      • Anname says:

Agree with you Pastyousay! I don’t see her as timeless or old school Hollywood glam, much more of a modern girl imo.

  23. drdoolittling says:

She seems like a cool chick but I just don’t view her as a beauty. She seems like the cute girl-next-door but she is certainly not beautiful like Angelina, Charlize, etc…

    • bettyrose says:

It’s not so much beauty as presence. To me she has this tall, confident, striking way about her that sets her apart from the norm. Then again, being petite myself I have trouble viewing tiny actresses as exotic/unusual.

  24. Janet says:

That cover is absolutely horrible, and not because of who’s on it. The whole layout is tacky. Before Anna Wintour took the magazine over and ruined it, Vogue used to have covers that you could frame and hang on your wall. Not any more. I see better covers now on Women’s Day.

  25. Andrea says:

She is beautiful and talented and I do love her.

But I do think she gets a lot of this privilege bc she’s 22 years old and it’s bothersome to see her youth held up as something incredible when it often means she’s pushing aside women in their 30’s and 40’s who are just as talented and have worked just as hard for sonething like this.

Jlaw is great. But she reminds me just how obsessed Hollywood and culture is with 20-something women to the detriment of all other women who dare to age.

    • Alexandria says:

*Slow caps* Took the words right out of my mouth. I feel disgusted by the ageism in Hollywood (and in general) and I’m 22! It just reminds me of how most women are tossed aside and not special snowflakes anymore once they hit a certain age. Yes, she’s accomplished a lot and that’s amazing, but so much extra attention is focused on her because of her young age.

    • Bijlee says:

Yes! I feel exactly what you’re saying. I like her and have liked her for quite some time…even on the bill engvall show and I think this cover is gorgeous but this is one of my problems with the obsession with her by Hollywood. Especially the old creepy guys that rave about her constantly.

    • angie says:

well, i don’t think the praise she is getting is undeserved because i actually think she is talented for someone her age, that’s why i have absolutely no problem with it, i mean whatever, i just hope she keeps that sense of humour she has intact cause she is one of the only actress that i find funny and entertaining, plus it is also refreshing to see that her lovelife which is pretty lowkey has not overshadowed her career, it seems to happen to so many actresses once they are coupled up with a male heartthrob actor.
Also, it’s not her fault she is getting all this praise from the industry, i mean what is she going to do,refuse them or something and if she did, she would sound ungrateful, i mean some people and professionals alike in the movie industry thinks she has some talent, who am i to say she is not talented?
And i do think she is talented. JMO.

    • LL says:

So true. I believe her character in SLP was meant for someone in their 30s or 40s but they gave it to her instead.

  26. Lucy2 says:

I like the photos, she looks great.
Right now she’s down to earth and charming- as long as that doesn’t change, I don’t think I’ll get tired of her.

  27. carnivalbaby says:

I must be past the US Vogue demographic because she doesn’t move me to buy this issue. Would have been happy to see Kerry Washington. And knowing Miley Cyrus is in Harper’s Bazaar means that I will not be purchasing that either. And I love the September issues. Oh…just remembered Blake Lively on Lucky.

  28. Liz says:

That is a great cover, she looks fabulous.

  29. shelley says:

overrated…not pretty..not all that talented. She pissed me off when she was all self righteous about being big boned and fleshy as if it is a virtue over being skinny…smh

    • Liv says:

Have you lived under a rock? It’s well known that being skinny is the ultimate ideal of beauty in our society and women of other shapes are forced to live up to this. Especially in Hollywood are women forced to lose weight. So I disagree, Jennifer just spoke out that it’s actually not a virtue to be skinny and that it’s okay to look different.

  30. angie says:

    undeserved? *rolls eyes*
really, when Blake Lively had 2 Vogue covers, Kristen Stewart and many other actresses less relevant than Jennifer Lawrence already had Vogue covers ?
You may not like her acting or whatever, but when US Vogue give 2 Vogue covers to Blake Lively and also, gave one to Kristen Stewart, well yeah Jennifer Lawrence totally deserved at least one Vogue US cover. JMO.

  31. Raquel says:

Lawrence has her hands in a lot of pots, but she is hardly as ‘overexposed’ as MANY other stars. Quite honestly, and I don’t mean to attack anyone here (please don’t be offended if you do think that she is overexposed), but I feel that people who don’t like Lawrence say these things because they can’t put a finger on why they dislike her. That’s ok–I don’t like a lot of people because they ‘give me a vibe.’ But there are actor/resses who put out like 5 movies a year until you want to cry when you see a poster with their mugs on it–and they don’t get called ‘overexposed’ half as much as Lawrence.

The word ‘undeserved’ struck me as a little odd. What does it mean? I know that that vile, arrogant little woman Anna Wintour thinks that she and her mag hath made beauty in her own size 2 image and hath breathed into beauty the breath of life (which should never be without a handbag) and everything. In reality, she is just a silly little woman who thinks that the superficial trumps everything else.

Vogue is any other magazine that covers anyone who will get them readers. Except, it’s even more inane and stupid than other magazines. Lawrence, is something people will buy that stupid magazine to read about. For the love of god, that dumb rag did a positively worshipful spread of the al-Assad family–probably because that smug twit Wintour thought Asma–whom Vogue labeled ‘rose of the desert’– was ‘really pretty.’ After that, anyone “deserves” to be in Vogue.

    • Bijlee says:

Literally no one on this thread has said she is not deserving of the cover. No one. Celebitchy asks questions like that in their titles ALL the time about ANYONE even their most well liked celebs which Jlaw most definitely is.

Most people have been critical of the layout of the cover, bemoaning the lack of supermodels in this day and age, and getting annoyed about the PR surrounding this girl.

This is my problem with jlaw. I like her. But I hate her fandom, the obsession by Hollywood, and her PR team. That’s my problem with most of celebrity culture. I loathe fandoms. There’s this need to make her our to be an etheral acting goddess who can’t ever be questioned or disliked. who can do no wrong and if you do you simply don’t get her or youre some lonely twihard kstew fan. LOL!

Now JLaw is apparently so amazing that a CB title shouldn’t even ask a question to its readership? Something it does all the time with every celeb? Even despite the fact that the author has stated she ADORES her? The only ones bringing up her being undeserved are her fans…that’s it. Practically everyone here knows why she is getting it and it makes sense that it goes to her.

But wait for it I think I know what they’ll say to me. I’m just a hater. LOL!

      • Jordan says:

        @Biljee

        +1000000

      • angie says:

so we do not have the right to criticize celebitchy for their stupid title then, just because we are fans of hers?
Are you from celebitchy staff or something?
And it is a stupid question anyway, IMO
could have been much better, like :
“Jennifer Lawrence cover and preview, gorgeous or underwhelming?” cause there was a lot of hype about this cover and IMO, the photos are mostly meh and a bit underwhelming, but again what do i know, right i am just a Jennifer Lawrence after all and it seems I have no right to give my opinion or something.
People can criticize her all they want but her fans should just shut up and have no right to speak up, OK GOT IT.
I did not know celebitchy was this kind of site.

      • AKA says:

        +1000

This is the usual Celebitchy tongue-in-cheek manner of presenting an article. Absolutely NO ONE else is saying Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t deserve this cover. Except for the fans who are picking on something which no one has said. Then again if someone doesn’t think J-Law pukes sunshine and rainbows with every word she says they must be a hater right? I think the girl is talented enough but the “best of her generation”, “a return to the golden times”, “the next Meryl Streep” tags are wayyy over rated. Compared to many other actresses she hasn’t proven that yet according to me. There are far more talented people out there who are getting only splashes of good roles for several reasons. Heck Jessica Chastain who had a killer 2011 only broke into Hollywood at the same time as Lawrence, and she is way more talented. Sometimes it’s just the right moment. I really do want to like Lawrence, but the over rated tags and fandom just irks me. Plus I hated the whole casting process for The Hunger Games where they only auditioned famous, young, white actresses and gave the role to the most famous one out of them.

    • malene says:

I think people say the cover is underserved because she clearly doesn’t like fashion and doesn’t care about it so this looks just like any other PR move to make her a bigger star. She’s not a fashion girl and it shows, it has nothing to do with her body shape because there are thousands of women with T&A that are into clothes and fashion, it’s more about the “farm aura” she has and that low class attitude she presents herself with to appeal to mainstream America what makes her underserving of the cover.

      • angie says:

And when Kristen Stewart appeared on the Vogue cover, she was a big fan of fashion since her childhood, yeah right?
        *rolls eyes*
When US vogues has previously allowed celebrities that are definitely not into fashion on their issue, then i don’t get why Jennifer Lawrence should not be allowed just because of her “farm aura”, i don’t even know what this means and just because she lived on a farm in kentucky, now she has a ‘lowclass attitude’, wow ok, i did not there were so many elitist people on this website.

      • Annabelle says:

Low class attitude? Wow, you are a peach.

    • angie says:

yeah, i don’t get the overexposed criticism at all.
After her oscar win, she went back to work immediately, dyed her hair black and went back to Hawaii to finish filming catching fire, then she has one or two weeks break and again, went to film American Hustle in Boston, then she attended some promotional events like the MET gala for DIOR,Cannes film festival and comic con to promote Catching Fire and X-Men days of future past and all this time, she has been filming X-Men Days of future past in Montreal for some months now and still is.
I mean if i were her and i just won an ocar at age 22 yrs old, i would have taken a long break and partied it up in LA or something with my friends and may be, i would have become a total fame whore and actually, brag about it to everybody and spent all my money on clothes,,parties etc except, Jennifer is working nonstop with only a couple of weeks break and even then, missing events like MTV Movie awards where she got a bit of a backlash for not attending the event when the girl was seen visiting her family in Kentucky.
She is hardly in LA anymore, i mean you can see it by the little amount of paparazzi candids you see of her, i mean compared to other less relevant actresses.
She will still hardly be getting a break at all, because Mocking Jay Part 1 and 2 starts filming in mid September and will continue to film till May next year I think.
Just reading about her filming schedule is exhausting IMO and that is not counting her promotional duties as well for catching fire.
So, i do think people will see a lot of her but, it is not because she is a famewhore or something, it is because as an actress she is contractually obligated to fulfill her promotional duties and you know, promote her movies. IMO.

      • April says:

Angie, why is it on every JLaw post you have to comment multiple times to anyone has something negative to say about this girl?

      • Pastyousayyouneverknew says:

@Angie I’m a big fan of Jennifer but even I can tell that you need to chill, you don’t have to defend every comment that isn’t 100% pro-Jennifer, you’ve definitely made your point in this post but freaking out and writing essay-length responses isn’t going to sway anyone to your point of view.

      • angie says:

        @April and @Pastyousayyouneverknew

Yes, I am a big Jennifer Lawrence fan but I am not freaking out like you said, i just love to write long essays and i was actually agreeing with Raquel and responding to comments, we are on freaking website anyway, freedom and expression and all, so I can and will write whatever I want as long as I don’t post offensive language which demeans somebody or else i will get banned anyway.so, if people don’t want to see my comments, they are free to ignore it, i am not forcing anybody to agree with me, i am just merely giving my opinion.

      • blaize says:

Nonsense. Angie can comment as frequently as she likes. 😀

It’s funny to me. On threads where people want to say negative or neutral things about a starlet, people comment frequently and nobody makes an issue of it. But then if a fan or someone else wants to comment multiple times to defend that starlet, people complain about that person ‘commenting too much’.

Both positive and negative opinions are allowed, people. Just as a person has the right to give criticism, a person also has the right to dispute the criticism.

    • Raquel says:

The title is “Jennifer Lawrence’s Vogue cover & preview: gorgeous or undeserved?” What I wrote was, implicitly, my reaction to the headline. What are these forums, if not places where we write our reactions to articles & headlines? 😀

I didn’t say the question shouldn’t be asked–I just want to know what makes Vogue magazine, that does glowing spreads of iron-fisted tyrants with torture & blood of children on their hands, run by a vain little harpy so full of herself that no one is allowed to ride an elevator with her, special that we must reflect on who is ’deserving’ to be represented in it. Vogue is such an inflated, base little rag, that I feel that I can question the matter of who is ’deserving’ to be there at all. I really don’t see why I should be treated like small-minded Jennifer Lawrence-worshipping villain, for asking that question. I really do apologize to anyone who thought it was a dumb question 🙂 .

I also questioned whether the ’overexposed’ argument is overused in Lawrence’s case, merely because other actor/resses seem thrust into my face far more than her, and I don’t encounter complaints that they are overexposed. I went out of my way to be respectful to people who thought that she was overexposed (’overexposed’ being a subjective term and all)-and if they want to explain why they use that word to me, I will happily listen (or read). Still, I suppose that’s a question I shouldn’t ask, because then I would be shutting down questions. Or something 😉 .

And, I have to say, that when I wrote my comment, I was careful not to insult people who dislike Jennifer Lawrence. Am I in error to expect the same courtesy?

I’m not a fan of celebrity culture/worship, and I am not a fan of the way it makes people mow others down because of some little idol they’ve never met. Conversely, I am not a fan of the way it makes people mow down others because they like some celebrity they’ve never met–that is also a thing in ’celebrity culture.’ At lease, people should respond to what others actually say, and not who they like. It’s all petty & silly, in my mind.

      • Bijlee says:

And yet you’ve managed to use derogatory language with regards to wintour. So no matter how petty you’ve deemed it, you take part. Other posters have managed to criticize wintour with resorting to rude language.

And girl I just can’t with you. Without seeing whether the criticism has any bearing you just out hand dismiss everyone’s opinion as simply something they don’t get with regards to jlaw. *Liz Lemon Eyeroll* That’s fine I don’t care anymore. Bayh!

      • Raquel says:

Uh, Wintour deemed Lawrence ‘deserving’ to be the Vogue cover. For whatever Wintours’ thoughts are worth (they are worth whatever I can find in my butt, fyi).

I am derisive towards people who:

–Think they are too damn important to ride an elevator with anyone else.

–Unapologetically declare that ‘only’ skinny women should be represented as beautiful.

–Is so superficial, that she will give a glowing review of a vile family because the wife is so damn beautiful.

I don’t care if I am ‘rude’ when I talk about someone so disgusting as that. I really don’t care to–if Wintour can’t take comments like that, she should hop on a broomstick and fly out of the kitchen.

Anywhoo–this whole ‘don’t say mean things about Wintour’ schtick seems to me to be a diversion from being called out on nastiness. I highly doubt that you, of all people, really care that much about rudeness :D.

What’s next–will you get mad at me for calling the al-Assad’s ‘vile’, or something?

If you just can’t with me—don’t *Liz Lemon eyeroll*.

      • Bijlee says:

The difference my love is that I don’t pretend to be above the pettiness. Diversion sure that’s fair, but maybe it’s also pointing out that you like to take part a little more than you’d like to believe yourself to do. Hide behind as many smiley faces you want, it doesn’t hide the nasty tone you’re trying to convey.

I like jlaw the actress and I like jlaw the girl. I dislike jlaw the image or jlaw the phenomenon. But I have said before that that is my problem with celebrities on a bunch of other threads. So she’s not really unique in that regard.

But you’re right. This is a waste of time. And I should let it go. I hate that I’m still going. Especially when arguing with commentators with incredibly overinflated egos and a highly pretentious attitude, who seem to refuse to actually read what people are saying. Im sure you of all people know who im talking about. 😀

Keep talking about jlaw being deserving. You and Angie are the only ones even discussing that. Oh and for the record if the smiley faces threw you off…I am being bitchy. It’s probably something I should let go and return to my work 🙂

        insert *liz lemon bitchy/nasty/petty eyeroll*

Dear JLaw. If you’re reading I do like you. Lets grab a coke and play football. It’s your pr teams hustle and fans I can’t stand.

  32. lisa says:

i preferred when models were on covers but i cant say it is undeserved because every random side trick ends up on covers nowadays

at least she is a best actress oscar winner

  33. Talie says:

Gorgeous cover and yes, American sportswear is definitely her friend far more than French Couture.

  34. GeeMoney says:

Love J-Law. She gets props for winning an Oscar at an early age and in an industry with folks who have 10 x’s more acting experience than her. She’s a talented girl, and I hope she can hang in there and have a long, wonderful career in Hollywood.

And I don’t get all of the hate… you people need to get a life.

  35. chloeee says:

love her. just saw a two part interview with a local kentucky newstation with her parents. adorable. she can do no wrong to me

  36. apsutter says:

Freaking love her. She’s beautiful but her personality is the best. She’s what everyone thought Julia Roberts was like until we found out that she’s a raging bitch. Funny, self deprecating, silly and doesn’t take things too seriously.

  37. Lark says:

This is a fantastic cover, and while I like JenLaw for the most part I’m not her hugest fan either. She looks pretty, fresh, and natural on this cover-which is rare in today’s fashion magazines. Calvin Klein suites her athletic and curvy body. She definitely deserves this cover, especially with two movies coming out.

That said I get why some people are getting irritated with her. She is over-exposed, and she’s getting cast in parts that were supposed to go to actresses who were 30+. And while ONTD can be over the top with their hate and can be ridiculous, she has said offensive things about LGBQT people (I can not believe no one every called her out on using the D word or that cringeworthy comment about male models..and I’m pretty sure there were other incidents). Granted, I think these offensive things were more out of ignorance and I don’t think she realized they were offensive-in fact I wondered if her presenting at the GLAAD awards was after her publicist or someone on her team sat down with her and explained some things to her. I do think she is walking a fine line with the over-exposure, she has to promote both XMen and THG and her other movies and that is a lot of being out there.

Seeing those photos of her in Calvin Klein-Well, I wish she was representing them instead of Dior. It really suites her so well.

    • GeeMoney says:

We all say offensive things… it just becomes magnified when you are a celebrity b/c everyone knows who you are. And she’s 23, for god’s sake. I bet if we could take a stroll back to everyone’s past when they were that age, we’d find a bunch of ignorant things that people said then too.

Cut her a break. She’s young. And hopefully she’ll learn to be more PC in interviews in the future.

Not to mention… Hollywood loves casting 20 something year olds in 30 something year old parts. That has been going on since the dawn of time. We all know how Hollywood works, and that youth and beauty are overvalued for women in that industry over talent and experience. And that’s not going to change any time soon.

      • Lark says:

I don’t think I explained what I was trying to say very well, so I’ll try again.

ITA about it being Hollywood that is responsible for the age discrepancies. I couldn’t believe that Diane Lane was playing Henry Cavill’s mom, for example. My point was that unfortunately, some people unfairly transfer that annoyance on to the actress or actor who takes the part.

As far as the comments, I also agree. I’ve defended Rooney Mara, Jesse Eisenberg, KStew, Miley, Rihanna, and others who have stuck their foot in their mouth. It just surprises me that people literally BBQ’d Rooney Mara alive for her comment about her Law and Order SVU episode, and not one word about JenLaw using some offensive language. Rooney is also very talented, so it’s not like people were harsher on her because she was untalented. My point was basically that she gets a “pass,” as some people above pointed out, and that “pass” may run out soon. She’s barely 23, and I think that someone sat her down and educated her on why some words aren’t okay.

Somewhat off topic, but can you believe that Colin Firth is going to play Emma Stone’s LOVER in the next Woody Allen film? I was like “WTF?” I mean Rachel McAdams and Amy Adams and well…there are a whole lotta other talented (more talented, to be honest) redhead actresses who are way more age appropriate.

  38. dj says:

I have always liked JLaw and nothing so far has stopped that genuineness that I feel about her. She has to evolve and she is. I love that she has the Vogue cover and it is finally a decent picture of her. She is growing into her “smile” finally but does look better with a bit of an open mouth (not mouth breathing like some). If Blank (not a typo) Lively can have Vogue covers then JLaw certainly can. She really needs a vacation though. Poor girl.

  39. Lucky15 says:

I like Jennifer Lawrence but I think this cover makes her look way older than 22.

  40. Chutzpah says:

That Calvin Klein dress was appalling – it still sticks in my mind because I immediately thought of Baywatch when I saw it, complete with the overly blond 90’s hair, seriously its just a Baywatch swimming cosie with a skirt added, I used to wear sh*t like that for clubbing not the red carpet.

  41. Mabs says:

Didn’t read all the posts, but I actually feel sorry for this girl. The industry will eat her up, masticate on her as long as she’ll last and then make fun of everything they’re currently praising all while laughing at a possible slow descent into madness. lol But no seriously, she’s really a seemingly awesome person; it’s a shame she’ll be homogenized like the rest of their crops.

  42. Mingy says:

i like 1970’s “winged bangs”..super hot on some girls. and it’s not achieved by just growing out your bangs.

  43. Caroline says:

    Her smile looks weird>,<

  44. Caz says:

I like Jennifer. Her agent must be awesome to get the US Vogue cover for her, leading into Catching Fire promotional time….

Agree with all the comments about US Vogue. Even Australia Vogue has real models on it sometimes.

  45. Nesta says:

Get all those spots taken off or the magazines need to stop brushing them out, it’s false advertising. She’s covered in freckles and moles.
