Shailene Woodley is an odd specimen in Hollywood. She’s been acting since she was five years old, and some people think she was slighted for an Oscar nomination for her supporting performance in 2011’s The Descendants. For certain, this girl has talent, but she’s a bit wacky and comes off a bit full of herself at times as a result. Like when she talks about balancing her natural connection to the earth and adapting her lifestyle to the indigenous people, but I think she’s really like that and not putting on airs. Like, kumbaya and all that sh-t. I still remember when she talked (at the 2012 Oscars) about how it was no big deal if her acting career didn’t go anywhere because she could just go be an herbalist. No one paid attention to what she was saying then, but she’s still saying the same stuff now, and it’s a huge deal because she’s headlining the Divergent franchise.
Anyway, Shailene cut her hair (after a bleaching) for a role, and she is donating her locks to Children With Hair Loss (which will create a wig out of her hair), so it’s also for a good cause. She tweeted some photos from the process. What do you think?
I know it’s kind of hard to tell how Shailene really looks with such an awkward photo, but I’m sure it looks fine. As for Shailene’s own thoughts on the subject, she composed kind of an amazing explanation on her Tumblr. You might not want to read her love letter to her hair if you don’t want to end up inexplicably rolling your eyes at stuff like this: “Allowing my genetics to take control and produce long, luscious locks was my way of paying homage to my kindred spirit. i felt powerful, in control, strong. i felt connected to my womanhood, connected to my ancestors… and for the longest time, i was committed to never chopping it off. cut to: now. on saturday, it will be the shortest it’s ever been. and i feel so relieved, so ready, so dedicated.” This is sort of like Beyonce’s explanation for feeling empowered when she cut her hair. Is it just me, or are these ladies overthinking things? I feel like most of us wear our hair a certain length just because we like it that way. Maybe that makes me a shallow person.

Her character in Divergent (which filming wrapped less than a month ago) is blonde, that’s why. Most of the time she wears her natural brown color.

No, she actually bleached it sometime between the ending of March and the beginning of April, right before filming started (and she’s just about to start shooting her new movie, like in less than a week). The title of this article does make it sound like she just randomly decided to bleach it.

Judging from the red carpet photos, the 8″ that was lopped off was already bleached blonde. The hair at her scalp is brown, but that pony tail is super bleached.
Well I think it’s very sweet of her to donate her hair to charity, I had a friend who donated her hair to locks of love years ago.
But you can only donate hair if its undyed and untreated. (I know because I just donated mine, natural ginger, hope no stepchild gets that wig!)
I find it hard to believe that any actress in L.A. would have untreated or undyed hair? right?!
I can’t get a good look at it with her hands covering it up. Although I will say that it makes her face look HUGE, so I hope it looks better once it’s styled.

And I’m so disappointed that she’s Tris. I liked the books and I hate everything Woodley says. I so hope that she doesn’t turn out bad in the film! I didn’t take me that serious when I was 16 and definitely not with 21.
If she bleached her hair first, they probably won’t use it. Seriously, they can’t make wigs out of just anything. Hair that has as little damage as possible and has not been dyed or chemically treated (permed, relaxed, etc)is what they want. Most likely Children With Hair Loss will just throw it away. Locks of Love does that with most of the hair they get, because the quality is so bad that it can’t be used. She’d be better of donating money.
locks of love won’t take bleached hair, so I have no idea why she would bleach it first. Permed or dyed is fine though.
I’ve donated my hair before, and I’m thinking of doing it again in a month or so. My little 10-year cousin did it over the summer.

It’s not like she shaved her head. It’s a shorter haircut, for sure, but hardly the huge deal that she’s making it.
Yeah, I don’t get that either. I don’t know of any places that you can donate hair to that take processed or even gray hair. Also, how the heck can you even tell what it looks like? She was made for James Franco IMO.
I like her but dang does she sound so silly at times. I hunk she bleached her hair for a movie role.

She didn’t donate it to Locks Of Love, she donated it to a different organization that corresponds with the new movie she’s shooting (The Fault In Our Stars) which is basically dedicated to Esther Earl, who the book is based off of. The name of the org escapes me but it’s on John Green’s tumblr. I hate myself for saying this, but she seems like she did it because she cares a lot about the movie and the following it has. I think she’s awful for the role but at least she’s serious about it.
That sounds like she’s did it for PR for the movie. She’s not getting much attention these day. She got kicked out of the next Spider-Man movie. Her franchise Divergent could bomb like all the other young adult knockoffs trying to be Twilight or Hunger games.
Good Lord. When did we enter some alternate universe where all a woman’s power and worth was in her hair? Between her, Miley, and Beyonce, I don’t want to hear anything more about the “power” of a haircut!
And yes, it’s nice to donate, but I too have always heard they don’t take hair that’s been chemically treated.

Uh, her character in this new movie happens to be a cancer patient who has short hair. And Anne is not the first actress ever to cut/change her hairstyle for a role, as far as I’m concerned.

Ok, I’m a doofus, but I though she had weird feather shit in her hair in picture four, then I was confused why it wasn’t in any of the other pictures from the same event…and I realised, she was standing in front of a palm tree. Doh! Brain fail
I actually like her. But look at her eyes in the picture of her that’s straight on, one is so much higher and wider. I covered each side of her face, she’s so asymmetrical! Such an odd kind of pretty!
