Update: Live inauguration feed from MSNBC

There are hundreds of thousands of people waiting in the biting cold in Washington, DC for the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. The scenes on television of the immense screaming crowds are inspiring to say the least.

Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are currently at the White House having coffee with President Bush and First Lady Laura. Michelle gave Laura a little present on the way in, and everyone kissed cheeks. It all looked very friendly and easy.

People are so excited and there is a current of happiness and optimism in America. I’m on vacation in Florida and am so happy just to be in the States at this point in history.

Growing up I was told stories about President Kennedy’s legacy and the way he changed the nation and the world. This is an overwhelming and inspiring moment to see another great man take office and I look forward to the way he’ll govern and reach across the aisle to get things done. He’s already shown solid, unflappable leadership at a time when our country sorely needs it. We look forward to seeing what he’ll accomplish as the Commander in Chief.

    ALL HAIL THE (new) CHIEF!!

This is the best day ever!!!!!

  2. Stuff says:

Yeah because spending $110 million MORE than usual on this inauguration during a recession is a fabulous idea.

  3. Syko says:

Gosh yes, Stuff, we could have used that $110 million on another needless war somewhere. Have we attacked Australia yet?

  4. Celebitchy says:

Bush Sr. and Barbara look so matchy matchy in their purple scarves! Bill Clinton looks kind of pissed off, doesn’t he?

  5. Celebitchy says:

Good point Sycko. The war in Iraq costs $200 million per day.

The commentators on CNN keep saying how GHWB looks painful when he walks. I hope his health is OK, even though I DESPISE his son.

  7. Sauronsarmy says:

Oh, how I wish I could go 🙁

  8. Trillion says:

RE $ spent on this celebration: Funny how now all of a sudden some people are concerned with govt. spending. IF you’re pissed about the cost of this event, you must be psychotic over the trillions lost due to Bush’s de-regulation fest and bullsh*t war. At least this is spent for something that celebrates our much needed change and not for enriching already rich people, dragging out the last dredges of the coal and oil industry and killing and displacing human beings. Good luck, Obama. You’re gonna need it.

  9. Celebitchy says:

    Crowd is booing Bush Jr!

  10. MonicaBee says:

    @C|B
I am sorry I missed the booing! I was on the daggum phone! 🙁

  11. Celebitchy says:

Great speech by Diane Feinstein. Wonder what Warren is going to say.

  12. MonicaBee says:

    IT’S OVER!

    CONGRATULATIONS, PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!

    WE CAN! WE DID!!!!!!!!!

  13. Vibius says:

That John Williams song was kind of a mood killer.

  14. Celebitchy says:

I really liked the song, I thought it was lovely. Obama’s speech was incredible.

  15. Syko says:

Excellent speech. All in all, a very satisfying inauguration. Now let’s roll up our sleeves and get busy!

  16. geronimo says:

Loved every single second if it. Such a fine balance between genuine, heartfelt sentiment and no-nonsense telling it like it is. The man means business.

  17. Trillion says:

While I totally understand booing GWB, perhaps this wasn’t the time and place for it. I thought the boo-ers at McCain’s concession speech were lame. I think the immense popular support for Obama today says “In your face Bush” better than anything. And in a better way.

  18. geronimo says:

Agree, Trillion, booing said far more about the booers than it did about Bush. Inappropriate and retrospective and out of place on a day when everyone is looking forward.

  19. Sunnyjyl says:

    Yay!!!

  20. blah says:

What a great day in history!

  21. breederina says:

I am so happy and so proud of our smart beautiful new president and his gorgeous family. The John Williams arrangment of the traditional Shaker hymn “Simple Gifts” was beautiful. The speech was great.
I’m with Syko, picking self up, dusting self off and getting to work. Congradulations Mr. President !

  22. Gina says:

I sure hope Obama doesn’t screw up the country more than it already has been. We’re counting on you, Obama!!!

  23. drm says:

YAY! YAY! YAY! Much….I don’t even know what to say I’m so happy…LOVE…much love and hope from New Zealand!

YAY Mr President! Come and visit us sir!!!

  24. elisha says:

I’m not a fan of Dubya, but booing him is disrespectful and embarassing. If you love America, you should never boo your president no matter what party he (or she!) is.
