Just thought you guys would enjoy some photos of James McAvoy. I haven’t seen any photos of him since Comic-Con, when he had a scraggly beard and long hair and I just wasn’t feeling it. But now he’s clean-shaven and his hair is… not all that great, but it’s okay. He looks so boyish. He’ll probably still look boyish well into his 40s.
The trailer for James’ new movie, Filth, was recently released. I watched it for the first time yesterday and… Jesus. OMG. It looks like the violent, crazy Scottish film Danny Boyle never made. It’s directed by Jon S. Baird and it also features Jamie Bell, Eddie Marsden, Jim Broadbent and Imogen Poots. But really, this movie looks like it’s ALL MCAVOY.
Crazy, right? I like James more for doing this weird, crazy, f—ked up little movies. James recently spoke about the film with Empire Mag:
“There are going to be people who’ll walk out. I think whatever you think of it, you’re going to have a reaction.”
Filth is based on the book by author Irvine Welsh, who also penned Trainspotting and tackles the same gritty themes of sex and drugs, as well as mental illness and physical deterioration. James deviates from the normal characters that he portrays on the big screen, and dips into the world of being a vicious, nasty junkie.
“It’s kind of f**king hilarious to play,” he revealed. “You’re playing someone who thinks they’re the most important person in the world. I just thought Bruce was fascinating character, it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read and it’s an incredible film.”
James had to work hard to convince Irvine that he was right for the part. Ultimately, the character of Bruce had to be adjusted to work on the big screen.
“You’re fascinated by Bruce and everything he does, but you don’t feel for him in the book,” he explained. “You can’t really do that on film. You want to relate somehow. Of course, that’s not to say we’re making him nice, but I do think you wind up with some sort of… understanding of him.”
Even though the character looks like a deplorable human being, I imagine this was a hoot for James to play. James’ career is in such a weird place right now – there are times when I think he’ll be the next Ewan McGregor (which is to say, a solid journeyman character actor who works for decades on varied projects), and sometimes I think James will actually do better than Ewan because James has made smarter choices in the beginning of his career.

Yes. Loved him since State of Play.
Oh, hell yeah. Sigh.
His wife is one lucky lady; not only is he beautiful, he’s also super talented and seems like such a sweet, caring man. Sigh.
Except he’s being doing such freaky movie lately, it’s been scaring me a bit.
Eh, don’t be scared. He’s doing the “I’m not just pretty, I’m a legitimate artist” bit they do until they’re old enough to miss being pretty.
Yes. Always. He can even keep that leather jacket on.
Talking about his early career makes me want to watch The Last King of Scotland again.
Thinking about his early career reminds me of Narnia. Which, unfortunately, I watched before State of Play.
I still haven’t seen state of play. I made the mistake of watching the American movie first, which (from what I hear) just isn’t as good. I think that the series is on Netflix – maybe that’ll be my new distraction.
NOOOOO! I am SO glad I watched the series first, I couldnt believe the garbage they turned it into when they Hollywood-ized it. Even Dam Helen couldn’t save it. I have rewatched the complete 6-part series once since, and it still holds up.
Excellent! Expect my report shortly!
“Never thought I’d see the day when I left a knocking shop with more spunk than I came in with.”
Classic Irvine Welsh. I love that man. Even more than Roddy Doyle.
Yes. I would hit it. Twice with seconds. And I liked the beard.
His missus is pretty great, too. She’s playing Lady M at the Lincoln Center this fall. To be honest, she’s probably one of the only reasons that I would pay money to see Ethan Hawke act.
I liked the beard too. And I love his accent, and his sense of humour. so the answer is yes I would hit it.
I love Anne-Marie Duff. She can do anything. Actually, I wouldn’t need much incentive to hit her too, and I don’t run at all *that* way.
I would hit it to the moon and back… Have you seen him in “Trance”? GAWD he’s beautiful!!!
Would I hit it? Yes. All the time.
Seriously. All day. Every day.
Is Filth scheduled to premier here in the U.S.? I’m not seeing any release dates for here. Crossing fingers.
I believe it is…but would definitely be a metro city art house release like Shame was.
Any time, any place, anywhere…sigh….
Yep.
Absolutely.
Yum. And i would hit it. Hard.
YES!
with beard, or without it’s always yes.
Oh hell yes I’d hit that, and this movie looks fantastically filthy.
An Irish Prince and a Scottish Hand of the King in one day? Well CB you have outdone yerself, I salute you!!! *Citizen Kane applause*
MIne, mine, all mine!!
Is this a trick question? Of course I would hit it.
Ditto. There is no scenario in which I wouldn’t want to screw James McAvoy!
That was a giant pile of WTF….but I’m pretty sure I would still check it out.
the scene where he takes the kid’s ballon and gives him the finger made me LOL. i am so seeing this.
and i’d hit it so hard he’d lose his brogue.
LOL! I was gonna say smth similar!
In fact I’d hit him hard and fast so many times, he’d be broken sooner than a 3 year old’s toy.
God, i still havent stopped lusting after this man after 7 years!
Yum.
Absolutely! My bday is coming up, can i get him all dressed up in a fancy ribbon and nothing else?
Like a screen door in a hurricane.
I was in lust when I saw Wanted.
He’ll have longevity in film, maybe not international under celebrity, but he’s well respected and liked. Plus, he’s a genuine fellow and his personality is so endearing.
YES! The answer is always yes! He is hot no matter the state of his facial hair.
Has he had a nose job?
Yes I would!
Always. But I do prefer his shaggy look.
oh my….he looks so hot in that jacket! Keep doing your thing McAvoy!
I reallyyyyy wanted to see him in that Shakespeare play he did, the version of Macbeth. I heard it was great!
Gorgeous gorgeous man. Oh the things I would do to him…
I would hit it, bang it and smash it to pieces. LOVE THIS MAN.
I actually had to take time to think about it as I so loved the long hair and beard. Then I thought about his voice.
YES!
His accent and his eyes are what do me in. He’s a gorgeous specimen of a man. Sigh.
HIT it? I’d land on him like a depth charge.
One of my favorite things about this site is the different ways people can paraphrase “hitting it”! You comment is hysterical, so funny!
Definitely gonna see it. Would hit it. Everything is Yes.
His forehead’s gotten bigger. Shame he’s losing his hair.
I LOVE the man…Last King of Scotland! I can’t wait to see him get NASTY in this movie!
beard. no beard. I don’t care. I would hit it hard like the hammer of thor.
First thing I opened up this morning and Jesus. Woke me up and yes, I’d hit it SO HARD beard, no beard, does not matter. He’s my one and only freebie.
