It’s kind of absurd how happy I am when we get new Benedict Cumberbatch photos. Go ahead and call me a Cumberbitch, a Cumbernerd, a Cumberloser, a Cumberobsessive, I don’t care. I let my Cumber Freak Flag fly. These are new photos of Benedict – in character – yesterday in England. He was photographed in his 1940s period costume, in character as Alan Turing, filming The Imitation Game.
Cumby was attached to The Imitation Game for months, and I’m glad to see that it’s finally in production. Cumby costars with Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong and Charles Dance. Alan Turing was the mathematician who cracked the Nazis’ Enigma, the German code during World War II. Turing wasn’t just a brilliant mathematician and code-breaker – he was also a closeted gay man who was persecuted AND prosecuted for “homosexual acts” post-WWII. Benedict doesn’t really look that much like Turing, but I guess it’s fine because very few people actually know what Turing looked like.
As for these photos… my Cumberbatch looks handsome, doesn’t he? My Cumberobsession is getting a little bit overwhelming these days – there are just so many interviews and photos and I’ve been having dreams about him. Hot dreams. Dreams that make me blush. These photos are just going to add to that. I wish I could bang him on top of a German Panzer.
PS… this is going to be the haircut that he has at the Emmys, isn’t it? How disappointing. I wanted him to be all “curls, crumpled tuxedo & sex” at the Emmys. Now he’s going to be all period-hairstyle and stiff. Mm… stiff. Okay, it’s not that bad.
PPS… So what I’m getting from one of these photos is that he “dresses to the left”. And he’s hung. BAM!! YOU JUST GOT BATCHED.
Photos courtesy of WENN and Fame/Flynet.
That hair is torturing me. It also makes his face look extra weird and extra old. I am down with the curls, bespoke tuxedo & sex.
yeah, he looks all right here but the curls make him cute-ish.
I think he IS supposed to look older to play Turing.
I was actually just thinking this haircut makes him look better; the “cute curls” just contrasted with his unusual face, making him more “odd” than “unique”.
I like him more like this.
His hair looks like Turing’s hair. The rest? Not so much. Then again, it was the same with the Wikileaks hair, too.
Agreed. It’s the curly hair that curls my toes. I would like to run my fingers through those ringlets!
Nope. I think he’s weird looking.
+1 He looks like my old Headteacher in this so that would be a no lol.
Tragically weird.
Yes, weird looking indeed. For me I think it has something to do with his lips or mouth…
Agree. He turns me on about as much a bowl of cold noodles. He must have some sort of attraction, though, since Celebitchy seems to feature him every day.
Watch and listen! This is the hotness!!!
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TdphtMWjies
I just dont understand people who think he’s hot. He is funny looking and gangly
He’s so fug. Looking at pics of him makes my skin crawl, so I try to avoid looking at his pics for long.
This guy does nothing for me. He just looks odd. Love his voice though.
I just don’t get it…
I would hit it like a broken door and twice on Sundays
Agreed! I’m a full-fledged Cumberbitch. So smitten.
Damn, this movie’s gonna be extremely depressing. It’s just so tragic. My gosh. 🙁
Cumberbatchweb tweeted he won’t be at the Emmys because of filming. Sad.
Hmm, 40’s Cumby knows how to accessorise; I love that leather satchel.
Totally seeing this when it comes out. Cumby, Strong, Dance . . . I’m there.
Same here! God almighty, the sex appeal of those three men is entirely overwhelming. I may not make it out of the theatre without swooning. However, seeing my Benny in those high-waisted, grampa pants does make me giggle a bit.
I’d hit it. Yep, yep,yep.
Oh yes. With all the force of the Blitz. But I don’t much like the idea of being his 1940s wife. Rationing anything doesn’t suit me.
Love the clothes. He looks all tweedy and flannel-y.
Yes I would!!!!! The hair dept must have to blow dry/ flat iron and use lots of product to keep it straight as it’s miserable here and damp.
I imagine it’s something like concrete by the time they’re done. Ain’t nothin’ gonna mess up the Cumber-‘do…
I hear you. I need them to work on MY curls.
Cumby stay getting work. This man is going nowhere. He is actually an actor I enjoy watching. This movie will be sad though. So no cumberlusting in this role for me. The story is just sad to me. Can’t wait to see how this turns out.
So he will be at the Emmys?! Somebody posted on a Cumby post the other day that he announced he wouldn’t be there, and I nearly cried. Don’t mess with a girl…he’ll really be there?! Yippee!
He wont be at the emmys.
Dammit.
Never thought Benedict Cumberbatch attractive in any way till I heard this…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdphtMWjies Everyone on this site might be converting me!
Welcome to the dark side, Chrissy.
We have tea and scones!
@amelia: Are you also doing cream teas?
God, I have this thing about Cumby in period suits. Give me tweed, give me herringbone, give me that darling leather satchel and those high waist (read: probably up to his nipples) trousers. Hey, and there were pictures of him on one of those old black bicycles, give me that too. And will we have academic gowns and Tudor bonnets?
Did I mention that I hit it?
Apologies, reply doesn’t seem to be working properly. I just listened to the YouTube link in Chrissy’s post. Now I need a cigarette. Badly.
I don’t even smoke.
OK.
Well.
I’m not sure about the hair… but I think mostly it’ll look better in actual motion, rather than just the still photos of poor Cumberbatch looking pensive, serious, and otherwise verruh busy as he walks with his satchel.
I like the wardrobe though. And yes… of COURSE I would hit it. A lot. More than once. Many times.
I think I’m probably the only one who likes those 1940s haircuts. I think he looks smokin’ here.
Not just you. I adore it. I just want to stroke the short back and sides. And the stern headmaster look really works for me, too.
I think his short styles might be growing on me. I use to be a sherlock curls stan but my mind is changing. Plus he can’t have his hair like that all the time.
I used to stroke the heads of my brother’s Action Men. I like the floppiness above the rub-able shaved bits.
@ Sixer,
I’m not sure if you could really do the kind of stroking I’m thinking of without ending up with Cumby’s special ginger hair dye on your hands.
I love the Sherlock hairdo, and I love this. I love it all. I’ve been watching “The Last Enemy” and his hair in that is awesome. It’s lighter and short but curly. It’s adorable.
I’m just starting to put this outfit together with the whole Mel Brooks movie from the JGL thread and it’s making me very happy.
Oh my goodness! Now that’s, ahem, erotica I could get behind. My aunt is suddenly giddied.
It really writes itself. Me,Cumby-as-Turing in a bunker with a week to turn him straight. How would I not need a chorus-line of high-kicking Nazi soldiers?
I might also need some canned goods and a small pat of butter.
I wonder if Ralph can still squeeze into his Schindler’s List costume? I’ll bet he has a lovely singing voice.
I’m the resistance radio operator. I need an assistant to fiddle with my crystals. I’m looking at you, TommyAnne.
What’s fun about TommyAnne is that he could probably fiddle in Morse Code. It’d be like infotainment!
But you might be there some time while he fiddles out the entire speeches of Tamburlaine.
I was going to make him go with “Hitler Has Only Got One Ball”. Whaddyathink?
I couldn’t think of anything better to be tweaked into your personal bits. It’ll also give him something to hum while he does it.
I am a 1950s early 60s hair style gal myself. Suits as well.
But anything in a uniform (which I realize he is not in but we are talking about WWII and Fanty is blitzing so… )
I’m going to share my uniform things for a) firefighters and b) motorcycle policemen. But only when they’re wearing their helmets.
Just you keep moving, Missy. It’s tight enough in my bunker as it is.
@sixer;
That’s all well and good, but remember there’s a fine line between role play and the Village People. When Puddletom turns in a giant Native American feather headdress, I’m blaming you.
(He’s saving the biker outfit for the CHEmboy post)
A feather headdress would be the least of TommyAnne’s worries if *I* were dressing him.
My uniform hierarchy starts with US Navy dress whites.
And Tommyanna would be the biker because he is trying to butch up his image and because I won’t let him stand on the side of the road holding a soda bottle with a single tear falling from his eye* anymore.
*my apologies to anyone born after 1975 who has no idea what this is referencing
ETA – dammit, your post didn’t have the biker comment when I wrote this.
TommyAnne will always be Puddleglum the Marshwiggle in my dress up games.
My ultimate bikers are these ones:

From Cocteau’s Orphee. I think they would fit remarkably well into this film scenario. I could be scary-sexy Death. Ooh.
And to bring it full circle back to Mel Brooks, I hear Tallulah does a mean Gene Wilder impersonation.
You did not include pictures of him wearing another suit or pictures of Keira Knightley or them talking. I mean I did see those already but these are just many pictures of him walking.
This question is asked weekly and yet my answer remains the same.
No.
The script is not that depressing. The one you could read on the web a year or two ago is fantastic and actually very funny in parts. Benedict will nail it.
He looks gorgeous in those clothes I like the look on him.
Looks like he will be in Star Wars 7, 8 and 9 after all. Latinoreview is adamant he’s in. A small role to introduce him in 7 and then a much bigger role in 8 and 9. Happy for him as he loves the films so much. I suspect he’s the grand Sith baddie.
It’s my understanding (and correct me if I’m wrong) that the movie focuses mostly on Turing’s work and not just the more tragic aspects of his life and death. If that’s the case it shouldn’t be so depressing. The scandal of his sex life and subsequent castration and early death are only one aspect of his life. That shouldn’t be allowed to overshadow the telling of his whole story which was full of incredible accomplishments that helped to save many lives and basically kept the civilized world from falling into darkness.
Oh, well, that could be exciting… I’m still waiting for confirmation from anyone from his camp or involved in Star Wars, but the rumors are entertaining!
I was kinda hoping he’d get to be a jedi, though! I mean, I think he’d make an amazing sith, he’s got the voice for it, and we know he can do menacing, but… it’d be fun to see him as a badass jedi.
Oh, it’s good if the script isn’t as depressing as the story itself is.
The Star Wars rumors seem to go back and forth, so we’ll see if it happens. Cumby as a Sith, why not…but I would too hope a Jedi role for our occationally cranky Buddhist-Ben.
El mayimbe for latino pisses me off but I think it’s certain now that he’s in Star Wars. They were right with Khan and other things. And I haven’t seen them this sure about about a scoop before. I want him to be a Jedi too. Good safety net while he does small quality films.
i’d be very surprised if he wasn’t in star wars. the way he and jj abrams kept man crushing on each other, it seemed almost a foregone conclusion.
This movie has a duper strong cast non? I totally dig Mark strong in a dirty, dirty way, that being said onto the real reason I post here. Mr. Cumberbatch. I really like the look and I even like the hair, which is strange since I normally like th sherlock hair. Will definately be seeing this movie!
I like Mark Strong’s voice. Am currently watching Low Winter Sun purely for him and Lennie James. Lennie is on my (extensive) list.
Oh, Mark Strong, Mark Strong, Mark Strong. Let me count the ways I would hit that.
Barn door in a hurricane comes to mind.
See now, I can’t see Mark Strong without thinking of Tosker. And it puts me off a little bit.
What a sexy bastard he was, emphasis on bastard. And sexy.
I love him in every way; I don’t care how he looks. He’s an ACTOR. He does not have to look like a male model. It perplexes me how so many people have a pathological need to mention his looks with negative and demeaning descriptives.
Maureen, I agree with the sentiment. I think he always looks stunning. But, it wasn’t so long ago that you were saying how awful he looked in Japan. Which was totally false, by the way.
Yes, I said he looked awful in Japan. It’s certainly YOUR opinion that my opinion is “totally false”. I was not referring to HIS LOOKS, but to the way he looked (messy clothes and totally exhausted, too much makeup). That is not the same as calling him “weird” and comparing him to a “lizard”. I felt then, and I still feel, that he could have showed up at the airport looking way better than he did–even if exhausted. But this is beside the point. I am obviously referring to people who criticize his natural-born looks.
@Maureen
I agree with you but you know unfortunately that’s how the world works and this is the internet and a gossip site. I would have expected this site to be a bit nicer when it comes to that but this is called celeBITCHY. Since alot of posters are older I would have expected some maturity but this site can be just a grown up version of ONTD. Soo while I agree with you, I don’t really expect much from here. There are some funny posters on here who are witty without being rude. But then there are some who are just nasty. But hey…
love the briefcase.
I would hit it until neither of us could walk a straight line.
I would hit it…I think I should just copy/paste this phrase in every Cumby post heheh
Also I am digging this new hairstyle actually. I think it makes him look all neat and clean (cz the curls give me a messy vibe for some reason)
Plus this is like the first time I am clearly seeing his ears and realize how big they are (not in a bad way) cz otherwise they are usually covered with his locks.
Cumby’s haircut is very carefully cut and geometrical, so I’m going to turn my Cumbernerd mode on, and YES, I would hit it like the mad mathematician hitting a calculator.
His pants though…are very roomy. Hmmm.
But the colour is different from his TIFF hair, methinks. More … auburn-ey?
(OT @vesta: I read your last reply re. NT’s Frankenstein. Yes, I would happily spend my money on all film versions available)
Re: Frankenstein. Where I am, they’re now advertising two showings and letting you know which one is which.
@ T.fanty – Are you in the States? If so, can you tell me where Frankenstein is playing here? I would love to see it. Thanks!
Fanty, where I am they are advertising one show and letting me NOT know which one. I am afraid I will end up with Boris Karloff. This is soooo unfair!
Sigh, out there in the Big World (waves at T.Fanty) you get both versions, but here too it’s just one in a small-ish theater room. Not fair. But better than nothing! Or Boris Karloff. Although Boris actually moves me…
@curlsunited – Cumby said his hair has naturally different shades, and I guess that’s showing here. The colouring has faded, the shades are coming through and the roots are visible in some pics. That’s my theory as his “hair-ologist” *shame on me*
I’m in NYC. I just checked and only one cinema in NYC is offering both screenings *quickly books tix.*
I’m the same shade of auburn as Cumby and in my errant youth, I tried dying it., several times. It takes a lot of work to color over that type of ginger. It just keeps finding a way to come through.
@T.fanty: Thank you. : )
Hit = Yes
HOT HOT HOT. And I know he’s a lot happier with all of that Sherlock hair gone.
Love him!
I will get yelled at for this but…do we have to see this guy every day on Celebitchy? I am so tired of looking at him. How about just a little break?
She says ” My Cumberobsession is getting a little bit overwhelming these days”….
A LITTLE!?! Good lawd… I am SO tired of seeing this guy. He might be an amazing actor BUT I do NOT wanna see his mug as much as I do on here. I literally skim to see what the bitchy is about each day and if I see one thing about him, I usually close the page and move on to another site. Occasionally, I leave an uber bitchy remark like this one.
I don’t see. I don’t want to hit it. Not yesterday. Not today. Not tomorrow. I’m pretty sure it’s always going to be a NEVER. Ugh.
I feel better now *sips coffee calmly*
That’s a proper outburst, it made me smile 🙂 (and I actually happen to like Cumby). But don’t go away yolo112, there are many other funny posts here.
I have read this 2 time and laughed out loud once at work to the bankers dismay and at home to my husbands. Too funny!!!!
I am in agreement. I have total Cumberbatch fatigue and I know some of his fans who are feeling that way as well.
He does nothing for me in the way of toe curling but I do admire his acting even if I think it is a bit over rated.
I am going to see Frankienstein back to back just to see how he manages the change because sometimes I find his acting is a bit similar who ever he plays.
I’m with you there, thought I was the only one who was getting fed up with seeing him every day, sometimes twice a day. There’s a lot of other celebs out there!
Somebody here mentioned that he looks like a snake, every time I look at him now can’t unsee it.. More for you girls!
1940s Cumby is pretty much my favorite. CumberTweed…mmmmm.
But I don’t see “hung,” I’m afraid. Just a satchel. A hot, rumply, leather, code-breaking satchel.
The satchel is there to protect us from clear sight of the majestic dong. He knows that would only lead to chaos, and being the polite boy he is, he’s protecting us from our base insticts.
Sadly according to people who saw him onstage as the monster… there is very little there. I believe the phrase used was “baby carrot”…
What you mean is: there was not much to see, as Cumby had applied too much non-auburn make-up.
BABY CARROT? Nooooooooo! Except…it might refer to its fundamental function, which is to make babies. Yeah, that must be it. (The make-up explanation I accept too.)
I have heard from those who have seen him naked on stage that it is pretty ordinary
He looks perfectly fine. The 40s attire suits him. Love the tweed jacket.
The hair is very Sassoon, oh so geometrical, definitely like it but it does make him look a bit severe. However, he is portraying Alan Turing so severe is probably good.
This film has all the earmarks of being great, a top notch cast and a black list script. Cumby must be in heaven.
He does period looks so well. Honestly, I prefer the shorter hair on him. The longer hair, esp knowing how long it took the make up and hair group every morning to make it look “Sherlocky”, made me think of Hasselhoff with the fluff.
What? Hasselhoff? I almost choked on my Black Forest gateau.
I should think Sherlock hair, which is indeed a bit girlish, is not his natural curly Cumby hair. Get a decent haircut, wash it, comb it and don’t fuss with it/blow-dry it. That’s all. No Hasselhoff fluff. Believe me.
There is a reason why my user name on CB is not “straighthairunited”.
LOL as a “curly girl” myself, I appreciate the work it can take not to get the Hoff’s fluff going. Some of the sherlock pics, it veers that way and hearing the MUA/Hair team talk about how they have to curl, diffuse, fluff his hair to get the Sherlock curls when his natural hair is pretty wavy, I can’t shake the Hoff image for some reason.
@curlsunited,
You have a Black Forest gateau?
Will you be my friend? 😉
I am partial to the Sherlock curls, but I do wish they’d ease up on the makeup on him. I just rewatched the first series and the hair color just washes him out.
I really like the prim and proper look he’s rockin’ here, though!
@EscCon:
My dear friend, I HAD Black Forest gateau.
I had to work to a vile, insane deadline today and was in desperate need of some eyecandy (Tweedbatch came in handy, but made working even more difficult) and gateau (homemade, easy on the cream, but with lots of cherries and eau de vie à la cerise. Yum, yum).
Someone on the thread had mentioned tea and scones earlier, so I had dropped a hint at cream tea (I understand some of you are from the West Country) in order to keep my gateau in the fridge.
Sorry, it would have been a great honour to offer it to you, my dear.
What a lovely reply! Let’s share TweedyBatch, curly hair (I’m curly too) & the memory of that exquisite Black Forest gateau. :-}
Damn! Just saw the final line added to Kaiser’s post. Is that a crease in the trousers or is he pulling a Hiddleston? I’m impressed.
Both. This is why I really, really like the second picture.
But it could also be a British Army Browning L9A1.
“Is that an enigma machine in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?”
Fanty, are you flashing your boobs? Again?
Yes. It’s a thinly disguised code for “I’d like to do you.” Being a genius and all, I assume he’ll suss it out.
I think it’s a crease as he appears to be walking but he does have really big feet but then again that doesn’t mean anything.
He does look so good in those pants, though…
Also- not the thread jack! Cute interview with the batch- if we can post links? if not, feel free to delete!!
Anyway, perhaps it’s already been seen by everyone, but the end bit was pretty cute:
“Is there something that you take with you because you are always travelling, living out of the suitcase?
Well, there are one or two things. Like a Swedish band, a silver band my friend gave me ages ago, which is for good luck.
I am quite sentimental about that, but I am not usually that superstitious about objects or in need of a particular comfort.
My friends would be laughing if they heard me say this because I am very Cancerian. I over-pack, I end up with far too many clothes and books but there’s not a specific item I carry around with me.”
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/entertainment/movies/movie-news/benedict-cumberbatch-playing-wikileaks-whistleblower-2273229
He talks about doing theater again, and the usual TFE press stuff. I didn’t realize overpack was a “cancerian” trait? Mainly I had to laugh because… er… he’s over-packing clothes? Perhaps he means clean underwear?
@Leah
But he IS over-packing clothes. For example: There are probably at least 5 different shirts along, and then, after a lenghty consideration and endless inner rambling-conversation with himself (the reason why he’s chronically late) Cumby chooses The Blue Shirt. Not because it’s his lucky shirt (no believe in lucky charms), but because the extraordinary beautiful beautiful blue shade somehow reminds him of the infinite. I think.
Saw him close up on stage in Frankenstein. He’s average size. Not small as one bitchy person posted on a blog a long while back. He’s not huge but the sort of size most men are.
Thanks for clarifying. So you had really good seats at the NT.
He mentioned in one interview that people brought field glasses and bird watching telescopes. I sincerely hope this was one of his usual tongue-in-cheek remarks.
Phewww…yes thank you Betsy. And I must too say you really had the BEST seats there.
(I also remember in one interview Cumby suggesting that instead of a pair of high-brow opera glasses some spectators brought high-optical bird watching glasses. Somehow that’s kind of the only thing I can recall from that interview. I wonder why…)
@ Curls,
Unfortunately, I doubt it. I once read an article from a major drama critic about the audiences’ hysterical reactions to Daniel Radcliffe’s nudity. People are insane.
Shot through the heart and Benedict’s to blame, coz he gives wide legged 40’s suits and tweed a good name.
Mmmm… Nope. Put Alan Rickman’s head on that body and you’ve got yourself a deal.
Ix-nay.
My Benedict look so handsome and dashing. I AM SO PROUD OF HIM right now. Now would I hit that……… now that would be a definite yes but a respectful and gentle way. Sort of a LOVE MAKING kind of way.
Am I right ladies?
The Turing film is already coming under criticism for avoiding the gay issues and the role of the law enforcing agencies at that time. No saying they should concentrate on that but to just focus on the computer research does him no justice.
There was a brilliant TV drama Breaking the Code with Derek Jacobi and it will have to be pretty good to improve on that and Jacobi’s performance
The source of that was the Daily Fail and it’s been completely debunked already.
It makes me purr, to see his work. Brilliant…all, of it. Would I hit that- yes, because he’s both a cerebral and very physical, person…plus- that voice. As for the Alan Turing film, would he have agreed to do a script that just examines the computer work – no. He’s good at picking roles.
…Kaiser, you’re simply the best in all Cumberbatch related stuff; this might be one of your best posts(although that one where you mention that you wanted to have his “voice on your thighs” comes a close second)…
<3
Didn’t someone announce somewhere that because of this movie he’s NOT going to be attending the Emmys? Maybe it was the Sherlock Twitter account. I dunno.
Cumberbatchweb found out he cant attend because of film.
Now we have Hamlet to look forward to autumn 2014. Its going to be stressful trying to get hold of tickets. Especially if Gary Oldman joins him as is rumoured.
