    what was on that booklist?
“Vapid Vicissitudes of Vanity”?? GOOP is right – Terrible!! Argh, just terrible.

Here’s the direct link to Fishsticks’ booklist: http://goop.com/newsletter/18

Okay, somewhat sadly, I’ve read all but three of the books on this list. No big surprises here, these are any recommended reading list you can find so it’s not like anything new and fabulous. It was my first look at the GOOP website and I lost count of “I” and how many time GP uses it.
Interestingly, to me anyway, that 2 of the 3 books I hadn’t read were Madonna’s faves. BTW, isn’t it odd that she points out what a great mother Madonna is (she didn’t mention that with her other friends, either they aren’t good mothers or she’s coming to Gristle’s defense).

  4. Leandra says:

Anyone that takes an interest in reading and encourages it in others is A-okay. She does take the time to put it out there and I think that is commendable in itself. Can’t please everyone.

  5. Renee says:

    Miley Cyrus is repulsive. ugh.

  6. Amy says:

It’s a good thing she held onto her freshman lit syllabus so that she could share her cutting-edge book recommendations!

Who is this Tolstoy, Gwynnie? What a find!

  7. jm says:

    Celebitchy-
I honestly wouldn’t even know Gwynnie had a website if you didn’t refer to it repeatedly.
Since we can agree that we both really find her annoying, can we also agree to just stop talking about her stupid goop?

  8. janey says:

bizarre, it’s like she’s trying to do a book club or something; now all she needs is to recomment her favourite afternoon tea and biscuits and she’ll be the quintessential 20th century British woman.

UGH get out of my country you poser!

  9. geronimo says:

Thanks, roughhouse, for summing it up so well.

And that she reduces Confederacy of Dunces, an acknowledged masterpiece, to – “…Ignatius J. Reilly, is a misfit genius who lives in New Orleans and is trying to survive.” just about sums up this shallow, trivial, fool of a woman. Ugh.

  10. Granger says:

It’s a nice list. But I still can’t stand GOOP!

  11. kate says:

@ geronimo: if you are a confederacy of dunces fan, have you ever read “geek love” by katherine dunne?

i actually thought the list would be more like “eat pray love” which i think is one of the worst books ever (sooooo self indulgent and sophmoric), or some feel good crap by eckhardt tolle. i love some of the books on this list, like the time traveler’s wife. confederacy of dunces is one of my favorite books ever, and who doesn’t love anna karenina, jane eyre or anything by jane austen? i read edgar sawtelle, too and thought it was really beautiful.

  12. geronimo says:

Kate – no, but I’d just googled it and it sounds fascinating. Thanks for the tip! Confederacy of Dunces is extraordinary, never been off my top ten list. Goop has finally done something useful!

  13. roughhouse says:

Kate, you made me LOL at Eat Pray Love…SOOOO true. I was so disappointed in it. The first part about “Eat” in Italy was great (yes, very selfindulgent) but by the end, she “finds” herself in Bali, money is no object, she has the stupidity to think that all the servants she has to wait on her are doing it because they adore her (not for the money they need just to eat 1/8 of what she eats), she has an Argentinian lover at her beck and call with no strings attached, DUH! Who COULDN’T find themself with that setup? LOL Sheesh…waste of a tree! Glad I wasn’t the only one.
