Mitt Romney vacations with his family in Hawaii, just like Pres. Obama

FFN_Romney_Mitt_SWD_010114_51295137

Does anyone else think it’s funny/interesting/weird that Mitt Romney and his family are vacationing in Hawaii for the holidays, seeing as how Pres. Obama and his family always spend Christmas in Hawaii every year as well? Maybe it’s nothing! A lot of people go to Hawaii for Christmas and New Year’s. And now the Romneys do too. These are some photos of Mitt and his sons on the beach in Maui yesterday. Josh Romney (the one with Creepy Eyes) is holding Mitt’s grandbaby (and that baby is gorgeous, by the way) and Matt Romney is the one with a perky B-cup. I don’t see Ann Romney anywhere – word is that Ann fell apart after Mitt’s loss in 2012, and she just putters around the many Romney mansions, barely able to function.

I actually don’t mean any harm with these photos. I’m not gloating my liberalism over the Romneys or anything. I don’t wish them any harm. I actually think Mitt looks really good here – nice, relaxed, comfortable. If he’d been able to show this side of himself during the campaign, more people would have given him the benefit of the doubt.

Meanwhile, did you see that Netflix is releasing a comprehensive behind-the-scenes documentary about Mitt Romney and the 2012 election? The docudrama is called MITT. I’ve included the trailer below – there’s some really raw footage here, especially since the trailer opens on election night as Mitt and his family realize that he’s lost. Here’s what irritates me: Mitt didn’t have a concession speech ready, just in case. I can understand how the candidate might not have written a concession speech himself, but did his speechwriters really not have anything prepared?!

Looks like someone had an appendectomy.

    • sam says:

His appendix must have been in a different place because my scar is BELOW the hip bone. Weird.

    • Florc says:

Looks like pyloric stenosis from scar location. Will ferrell also has the scar from a corrective surgery if you want to compare images.

    • MrsB says:

Looks like it could be a colectomy from Ulcerative Colitis or Chron’s. I had the same surgery and my scar is in the same spot. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

  2. Lizzie says:

Politics aside, he’s a fine lookin’ man.

    • Sojourner says:

      Yep. I’d do him.

    • atrain says:

Agreed – he is a fox.

    • PixieWitch says:

      ew

    • He is good looking, I couldn’t believe that he was that old though. I thought early fifties max.

From what little I saw of him, I don’t think that I would’ve liked for him to be President (the one thing that sticks out in my mind, was when he said he would ban porn if he became president)—but he is hot. Ann Romney knew what she was doing–I feel bad for her because she has MS–but I think she is a smug so and so. I remember when people were asking about his tax returns, and Anne went on The View, and when they asked her about them she said something along the lines of “….and that’s all you people need to know”…ORLY??

  3. Me2 says:

Yep. Mitt’s there because the Obamas go there. Just like all the thousands of other families that do. Copying the Obamas, of course!

    • Faye says:

I know, right? I rolled my eyes at the headline. How *strange* that he and his family went to Hawaii for Christmas. Hardly anyone does that!

      • eliza says:

Same here. I guess everyonr copies the Obama’s and their “original” vacation plans.

    • klue says:

Calm down y’all. I’m sure no harm was meant

    • Weezy says:

I think the irony might be that the right wing went ape shit over the Obamas going there on break (remember the whole thing about trying to make it seem ‘exotic’ and high falutin’ as if it wasn’t his hometown?) Hawaii is an awesome place to vacation, but there was such a backlash about Obama going there–google it. I wonder if Mitt even said something about it?

      • T.C. says:

Exactly. The right wing made the Obamas vacation to his childhood home which happens to be Hawaii sound out of touch and bad. Just funny that Mitt and his family are there now is Kaiser’s point. Cute grand baby btw.

      • Smoky says:

No actually the difference is that the taxpayers (you and I) paid for the Obama’s vacation and Mitt Romney paid for his own. Let’s just make that perfectly clear since the headline certainly doesn’t even attempt to address the irony.

      • buzz says:

the taxpayers pay for every vacation for every president – not just the black ones.

I mean, when George W. Bush spent half his presidency on vacation, the taxpayers paid for all of that. Including when he was on vacation when he received the August 6 PDB (“Bin Ladin Determined to Strike Inside the US”) and refused to end his vacation early. The taxpayers paid for that too. Didn’t see the right wingers running their big bully nasty mouths then. Hypocrites. Disgusting.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I love this comment, and all the comments above actually.

      • DottieDot says:

I am not footing the dude’s vacation with my tax dollars. There is your difference.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Taxpayers are NOT footing the bill for the Obama family vacation. The family has to pay for its OWN expenses; just like every other President’s family has had to do. The taxpayer pays for the security, just as the taxpayer does for every President; just as the taxpayer does when the President stays put in the White House. It costs no more for the taxpayer for a President to vacation in Hawaii then it did for a President to vacation in Texas. I am so sick of the lies about this.

      • Delorb says:

I seem to recall that they didn’t even know that Hawaii was part of the USA. Remember how being born there meant he wasn’t a citizen? Now cut to Ted Cruz hurriedly ditching his Canadian citizenship because he was ACTUALLY born there. Somehow the right-wing will be okay with that. hypocrites, one and all.

  4. Seattlemomma says:

Not a fan of him politically, but I’m not going to shade the guy for taking a holiday vacation with his family. They seem like a decent and tight family and that’s something to respect. Hope they enjoyed themselves.

    • Hillshmill says:

I agree. Didn’t vote for him, but I thought he seemed like a nice guy. He just got swept up in the politics of the presidential election and lost all sight of what he wanted because he was pushed around by the republican party. Wish I could have gone to Hawaii for the holidays. Instead , I had to sleep in an antique full sized bed at my inlaws when I’m used to a king bed.

    • buzz says:

I can’t get over how the Mormon church spent millions of dollars — that should have gone for charitable purposes — to pass Prop 8 in California banning gay marriage. Don’t use your religion as an excuse to be a narrow-minded bigoted jerk. That’s my view. THIS IS NOT A THEOCRACY. We do not run this country based on the Bible. Period.

      • DottieDot says:

        Off topic much?

      • Lilacflowers says:

Mitt Romney spent millions of Massachusetts TAX DOLLARS trying to overturn the decision in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health, the landmark decision that allowed marriage equality in Massachusetts in 2003.

      • Payton says:

Apparently, you don’t know what a theocracy is, buzz.

    • Delorb says:

Whenever I see him and his family I think of the song from the Book of Mormon saying that god wants them to f*ck, f*ck, f*ck. Hilarious because its true!

    • Malak says:

The Romneys do look like a decent and tight family…and what a big family! Looks like about 30 members.

  5. TheOriginalKitten says:

As I lay here, snuggled beneath two fleece blankets, bracing for a blizzard to deliver a foot and a half of snow, I want to punch my computer screen upon seeing these images of a warm, relaxing beach. I would kill to be in Hawaii right now.

As much as I do NOT miss Romney’s governorship, I met him once before he was elected (to Mass gov) and found him to be polite, kind, and yes, very handsome.

    • Kiddo says:

So looks are deceiving, you are saying,? lol I like Winter. As long as the power doesn’t go out.

    • tifzlan says:

On one hand, i’m really glad to be out of Boston for the next week. On the other hand, i miss it and i wanna go back, blizzard and all!

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

A foot and a half of snow! Plus, it’s going to be below zero tonight. Enjoy your break, tifzlan!

    • Spooks says:

I can’t imagine spending Christmas on the beach. Or anywhere warm. I wish the temperatures would go below zero already because I want snow!

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I spent a Christmas in Cali 4 years ago and it was really weird. Never felt like Christmas to me…the palm trees, the warm weather…..mmmmmm, palm trees…..

    • Tiffany :) says:

It has been around 80 degrees here in California for the last week. It does feel lovely, but it is quite the head trip around the holidays. It doesn’t feel like Christmas and New Years when it is hot! That combined with the mid-week placement of the holidays has me all confused. I can’t tell if it is Monday or Thursday, January or July!

      • The Girl Who Would Be King Of The Popes says:

You say that like it’s a bad state of affairs. -30 celsius where I am.

      • DottieDot says:

I was happy with 40 degree weather in NC. 🙂

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yeah I have a ton of friends and family in Cali and they all said the same thing as you, but honestly, it’s 80-something instead of what, 60-something? Ridiculously warm either way! 🙂

      • Tiffany :) says:

TOK, you forget that 60 degrees here means people get out their winter coats! 🙂

I am originally from an area that has “traditional” 4 season. When I moved west I used to laugh at the people who got bundled up at 60 degrees, but now after some years I am one of them!

      • Lady D says:

It’s -8C where I am, and after reading about the storm that’s coming, all of a sudden it’s positively balmy compared to the eastern side of my country and the states. I’m going to go for a walk with my coat open, and appreciate it immensely.

      • Spooks says:

Our coast has the mediterranean climate (we have 3 different climates in a country smaller than West Virginia, lol), and me and my friend used to laugh at our Dalmatian friends when they would be in the continental part during winter because they would bundle up like it was -10 and not 15 degrees. But now that she’s moved to the coast she’s become one of them!

  6. TG says:

Can’t stand Mittens or his family. Mitt didn’t have a speech prepared because he thought God was on his side and a lot of money too. If Anne has fallen apart it is because the idea that the man she worships isn’t an actual god is probably too much for her to handle.

    • Payton says:

Yeesh, who pissed in your Cheerios?

    • Lucinda says:

Or the stress took her and her MS down. For her health, it was probably a good thing he didn’t win. It might have actually killed her.

      • TX Laney says:

Yes I was thinking that the stress of the campaign and the public spotlight probably exacerbated her MS symptoms. As for being on the beach, she was probably enjoying the coolness inside the hotel like sitting in the shade of the patio or something.

      • MinnFinn says:

No matter how much one dislikes Anne Romney, MS is nothing to joke about.

Stress exacerbates the condition and so does high heat. If Anne wasn’t seen on the beach, she may be staying inside where it’s air conditioned during the hottest part of the day.

I know a fair amount about MS because my mother suffered from it all her life.

    • buzz says:

I found Ann Romney to be spoiled, arrogant, obnoxious and entitled.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I find that whole story about Mrs. Mitt to be highly unbelievable. It sounds made up to me.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Not only did Mittens not have a speech prepared, he and Ann didn’t prepare for a ride back to their home; they thought the Secret Service would have to transport them. He also planned to launch fireworks over Boston Harbor at midnight, without making that plan public and would have startled thousands of area residents with the explosions, after they had gone to bed. He knew he was going to lose Massachusetts before he even decided to run but didn’t care who his fireworks display would disturb.

  7. eliza says:

I guess I will be just like the Obama’s too when I go to Hawaii next month. I guess we are all just copy cats.

  8. patata says:

I used to work at a surf shop on Maui and he came in once to rent windsurfing gear. Normally we check to make sure the 2 sails are not ripped when they’re returned but because of who he was we didn’t…. later we checked, 1 was ripped and he had said nothing. Not a fan.

  9. Ciru says:

He looks better than his sons. He’s really good-looking.

    • Esmom says:

He’s not my type but I agree he does look better than his sons. (B cups indeed, ick!) And he does seem more relaxed here, his stiffness during the election season was not endearing.

  10. mollie says:

No, not like the Obamas. President Obama is originally FROM Hawaii so…just a trip home for him. I’ve got friends and family vacationing there right now, too….along with everyone else.
This piece is really an eye-roller.

  11. QQ says:

Oh Mittens, he of the Rafalca horsey and the many creepy cyborg sons and the terrible jokes *dissolves in Mitt Giggles as per usual*

  12. LOL says:

Ironing his clothes while he wears them??? Bullet dodged America

  13. klue says:

Matt has major chicken legs syndrome

  14. littlestar says:

Sigh. It was -27C here this morning :(. How I would love to be in Hawaii right now too.

  15. Suckmyfarts says:

I actually read that Romneys wife has an illness, like MS or something so maybe that’s the “fallin apart” you’ve heard about. I read an interview she gave that said she was actually relieved in a sense that he didn’t win so they could actually spend time together due to her declining health…almost as if she considered the loss a blessing in disguise.
So if that was true, good for them on spending a nice holiday together on vacation!

    • TX Laney says:

Yeah she was diagnosed with MS….not sure if the diagnosis was recent or if she had been diagnosed a long time ago.

    • That sucks–I knew a woman with MS. She couldn’t even cook dinner, or sit outside too long in the sun because of it. And it’s not like we live in Texas either–where I live it might get hot (80s or above) for about two weeks out of the whole year.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Ann Romney’s MS is well-controlled. She was diagnosed back in the late 1990s and uses dressage as her physical therapy. We paid for her dressage horse Rafalca. No, her falling apart was completely emotional and related to the election loss. If you watch the election night coverage of his speech, she wouldn’t even look in his direction and wouldn’t let him touch her. She threw a tantrum when the Secret Service refused to drive them home. I have known the Romneys for two decades. While I do have sympathy for anyone suffering a serious illness, Ann Romney is not and has never been a nice person. Indeed, she is a spoiled brat with an over-sized sense of entitlement. Oh, and as Governor of Massachusetts, Romney cut funding for services for people with MS over the objections of the MS Society.

  16. briargal says:

At least Mitt and family are paying their own way to Hawaii!

    • flo says:

      Agreed!

    • Cecilia says:

      Yep …I agree

      +2

    • buzz says:

exploiting all those Chinese factory workers, and destroying functioning businesses for money, really pays off!!! You CAN make a lot of money – if you don’t care about the consequences for other people!

Jesus! Jesus! I demand everyone live by MY religious principles – BUT NOT MY BUSINESS! The Bible doesn’t dictate how I run my business, only what you can do with your ladyparts.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Of course Mitt would pay his own way. He is not President.

I am confused as to why people focus on vacation spending and Obama. We have always paid for the vacations for Presidents. Why does it irk people more when it is Obama compared with EVERY other President?

      • MinnFinn says:

I thought the issue with Obama vacations was not that he goes home to Hawaii for Christmas but that he takes too many vacation days throughout the year.

The griping about vacation travel on the public’s dime was more about Michelle flying her girls, their cousins (the president’s plane was filled with her relatives and staff but sans Barack) to Europe and a separate trip to Africa for private holidays. Also she takes the girls skiing every winter etc.

Those trips bothered me because she did it during the worst years of the recession but conspicuously stayed home during 2011’s election year.

Anyway, IMO the relevant concern about time off is whether or not they interfered with presidential duties. And I’ve never seen an objective analysis of that done on Dems or Repubs.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I think where people get suspicious about these claims against Obama is that they are very partisan. He has taken waaay less time off compared with Bush, less time off than Reagan, but more off than Clinton this far into his Presidency. So he is right in the middle, which you would think wouldn’t be a liability.

A President is never hindered from doing their presidential duty, they can be reached anywhere at any time for any reason. For example, they used to carry the “red phone” along with Reagan when he would go horse back riding (and that was the 80s).

Keep in mind, just because the President of the family travels, it does NOT mean that public funds were used for the vacation. There are so many “fact checks” on this point out there. I can find some and post them for you if you like.

      • DottieDot says:

MinnFinn you are correct. I don’t like footing the bill for any president’s vacation.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

*sigh* Google is your friend, guys.

        http://theweek.com/article/index/235844/deconstructing-the-5-most-ridiculous-myths-about-barack-obama

        · In 1798, President John Adams left the capital for seven months to care for his ailing wife Abigail; his enemies said he practically relinquished his office.

        · Thomas Jefferson and James Madison routinely went away for three- and four-month stretches.

        · Abraham Lincoln, during the Civil War, was blasted for spending about 25 percent of his time away from the White House.

        · Dwight Eisenhower took long summer breaks in Denver and spent almost every single weekend at Camp David.

        · John F. Kennedy rarely spent a weekend in the White House, staying at family homes in Palm Beach, Hyannis Port, and the Virginia countryside.

        · Lyndon Johnson spent 484 days in five and a half years at his Texas ranch.

        · Ronald Reagan was away for 436 days, usually at Rancho del Cielo (his mountaintop retreat in California) or Camp David.

        · Bill Clinton, who didn’t own a vacation home, loved to party with his elite friends in Martha’s Vineyard and the Hamptons.

        · George W. Bush spent 32 months at his ranch (490 days) or Camp David (487 days) — an average of four months away every year.

Now I know this doesn’t coincide with the narrative that’s being spoon-fed to y’all by Faux News, but sometimes it helps to check other sources for the truth.

      • Tiffany :) says:

DottieDot, why are comments like yours only coming out now? As of August 2013, it has been fact checked: Bush took 367 days of vacation and Obama took only 92 days comparing at the same point in their presidencies.

You can see where it would raise some eyebrows that people would complain about 92 days, but remained silent about 367 days, right?

    • Lilacflowers says:

As a taxpayer since the age of 16, I am paying for Ann Romney’s Medicare coverage, for which she never earned a single penny and never paid one cent into the system. Oh, you didn’t pay for the Obama family trip to Hawaii either.

  17. Barb the Evil Genius says:

At least Romney’s family is paying for its trip, unlike all of us, who are paying for Obama’s. Leftists would shriek when Bush went to his ranch for Christmas because of the cost, but no one cares that the Obamas spent more taxpayer dollars on themselves last year than Britain’s royal family did of Britain’s taxpayer monies.

    • briargal says:

Absolutely true. It would be interesting to know just how much ALL of Obama’s trips cost including the ones where they went in separate planes to the same place at the same time!!!And just because Obama was “born there” doesn’t mean he has exclusive rights to go there. So no other politician should dare go there?

      • buzz says:

George Bush spend half his presidency on vacation. Didn’t hear you bitching then. Hmm. .

    • doofus says:

I had a feeling this would come up.

the Obamas DO pay for their food and accommodations while on vacation. Their travel (JUST LIKE EVERY PRESIDENT BEFORE HIM), and the travel/accommodations for the Secret Service and the Presidential entourage, is what is paid for by the taxpayers.

since the President, regardless of who it is at any given time, Dem or Repub, is never REALLY on vacation (that is, he is always acting as the President regardless of location) the security, communications, etc. are all necessary. for EVERY PRESIDENT.

I think the reason people got so up in arms about Bush’s vacations was not the amount they cost, but the frequency with which he took them.

This came up in August, when the Obama family went on vacation (to Martha’s Vineyard); as of August, Obama had taken 92 days of vacation, compared with (at the same time in their presidencies) over 350 for Bush (the younger), 84 for Clinton, and 180 for Reagan.

and all of those monies spent by the taxpayers are spent on EVERY president; they include things like a 24hour projectionist for the WH movie theater…again, available to every president…among other perks.

but, I suggest you read this…

      http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/the-presidency-costs-taxpayers-a-lot-but-thats-not-obamas-fault/

which is a better explanation of that $1.4billion of taxpayer money spent, and how it’s been done by EVERY PRESIDENT.

FTA: “We spend a lot of money on the Presidency, we have been doing that for quite a long time, and there’s no evidence at all that this is a phenomenon unique to the Obama Administration.”

      • Tiffany :) says:

Well said! The way people treat this President as if Presidential vacations were some kind of new thing that he invented is quite telling. Thanks for bringing some facts in here to shine a light!

      • JD says:

I could say the same about you on the left, buzz.
        Blanket statement much?

      • MinnFinn says:

doofus says – Your citation does not prove your point.

Outside the Beltway is a liberal organization. They even state that on their website.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I would say “perfect”, but we know that these people don’t care about facts, much more convenient to believe the lies and misinformation.

        PS-Great job, Doofus!

      • doofus says:

to MinnFinn: nice attempt at deflection, but no dice.

does it matter who reports it if the sources are sound? the article is not offering an opinion, it’s stating fact. try reading the article and the source it uses. do you know what the Brookings Institution is?

regardless of what you think of that source, my point is proven.

the point being: the things that Obama is being berated for are true of EVERY PRESIDENT, not just the Democratic ones. I’m not saying that it’s right or fair or cost effective for the WH to have a projectionist on call 24/7, but EVERY PRESIDENT gets those perks. and EVERY PRESIDENT’S travel is paid for by the taxpayers.

If Romney had won (G-D help us), the taxpayers would have paid for HIS vacation travel, too.

    • Lilacflowers says:

As a taxpayer and worker since the age of 16, I AM paying for Ann Romney’s health care expenses through Medicare, which she receives despite the fact that she never held a job outside her home one single HOUR of her life and NEVER paid a PENNY into the Medicare system. Means-testing for Medicare spousal share needs to happen. Enough entitlement spending of the tax dollars for rich people who decide never to contribute to the systems they leech from.

  18. lovenyc says:

I’m a proud democrat and even I rolled my eyes, please Romney can vacation wherever he wants since he is paying for it, not the taxpayers. I voted for Obama twice and I’m extremely disappointed in his ineffective presidency. Even his OBAMACARE is a complete mess, such a nightmare I had to deal with. Maybe he could have skipped some of his vacation time to actually get some real work done, like finally fixing the economy, get a real health care passed with heavy influence on prevention of diabetes and our population eating itself to death with junk food, tax reform would have been a great idea and some immigration changes are really in order already. Not to mention the crushing poverty. Who cares what Romney does, he is not a paid official. Bush used to vacation at his stupid farm, big deal. And please let’s not make fun of someone who is sick, like Ann Romney with MS. I don’t care what party she belongs to, attacking someone over any illness is a real low blow and not just plain stupid.

    • buzz says:

Yes, Obamacare is a complete mess for those previously-uninsusrable people with cancer who would have died this year without the coverage they now have. Christ.

I’m sick of greedy insurance companies acting as death panels so their CEO can buy his sixth house in Tuscany.

Private insurance is nothing more than a scheme to transfer wealth (from the hardworking 99% in the form of grotesque premiums) to the 1% billionaire CEOs. And when you spend a lifetime paying those grotesque premiums, the insurance company just denies your claim or drops you when you need coverage. Somebody needs to stand up to these a-holes and Obama did.

      • lovenyc says:

Yes, OBAMACARE is a complete mess in my opinion, at least that is my experience. I’m a proud democrat and voted for Obama twice, but I just had enough of his weak presidency. Step up man, the buck stops with you as you often say, Mr. President. So get on with it and accomplish things you promised, that’s why I voted for you twice!

      • JD says:

Tell that to all the people losing their plans because the plan isn’t compliant with ACA.
I’m 50, and hubby is 53. Why do we have to buy a plan that covers maternity and newborn care? Why do we have to buy a plan that covers drug rehab? Why do we have to pay SO MUCH MORE? Can’t afford it now, so we will just go without.

But hey, buzz, enjoy your health (or lack of) care, we’re paying for it.

      • Tiffany :) says:

        JD,
While you are paying for maternity coverage…the increase in cost is also because you and your hubby can’t be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions, there are no lifetime caps, etc. So while there are changes that might not apply to you specifically, there are probably also a lot of changes that will specifically help you at some point in your life.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

In Massachusetts we’ve been living with “Obamacare” since 2006, when this guy right here, Mitt Romney, put it into effect.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I meant to add-can you believe this socialist Mitt Romney!!!!!!

Tiffany, that doesn’t help if we can’t afford our coverage now!

What happened to “If you like your insurance and doctor, you can keep them” ?

      • buzz says:

If companies were issuing junk policies (i.e., you pay huge premiums for illusory, nonexistent coverage) – yes, that shit is now illegal and so polices got cancelled. GOOD.

  19. MickeyM says:

Frankly I had trouble seeing Mitt as anything but an out of touch Mormon Ken Doll; however, watching that trailer I gotta say – that looks fascinating, and he seemed immediately like a real person.

  20. joan says:

What’s this “He seems like a nice guy” stuff — if you look at his policies, he’s NOT a nice guy! They hurt ordinary people and favor the rich.

If you look at his history, he was a bully and bigoted.

What he is is a lucky guy who doesn’t get it. He’s missing some common sense and views the world through his own rose-colored glasses and donates to his church but not to those in need.

So, no, not a nice guy.

    • proudmadrid says:

      @joan :
Sorry, but you have no idea what kind of guy Romney is, unless you know him personally.
He can donate his money to whoever he wants to, same as myself or anybody else.
And where do you think the money he donates to his church goes to?
I don’t know maybe the people in need in his church.
      Is that possible, no??

      • Lilacflowers says:

I know him personally. The charm is an act. Mitt Romney is a jerk and Ann Romney is an entitled witch.

    • Florc says:

But he said he was sorry about the bullying:-)

If I were president, I would spend Christmas in the White House. I think that would be beautiful. Hawaii isn’t Christmassy at all. Of course, it’s unlikely that I will ever be president or be offered a trip to Hawaii for Christmas, so… Now I’m depressed.

  22. DottieDot says:

No it is not weird that he is vacationing in HI. Guess What? I vacationed in HI! Loads of people vacation in HI! Reaching much!?!

  23. TheOriginalKitten says:

Wow, people are freaking the eff out huh?

“Does anyone else think it’s funny/interesting/weird that Mitt Romney and his family are vacationing in Hawaii for the holidays, seeing as how Pres. Obama and his family always spend Christmas in Hawaii every year as well? Maybe it’s nothing! A lot of people go to Hawaii for Christmas and New Year’s. And now the Romneys do too.”

Let’s re-read the above paragraph a few times, with emphasis on THIS:
“A lot of people go to Hawaii for Christmas and New Year’s.”
Ok, so it was pretty harmless, with a bit of trolling from Kaiser, but overall she made it clear that she doesn’t think Obama has exclusive rights to vacation in Hawaii. Then again, typical reactionary behavior minus the very important reading comprehension from the Fox News crowd.

      Nice blanket statement. How smug.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I’ve never seen anything to contradict my statement and therefor I stand by it, perceived smugness non withstanding.

In fact, Fox News not only expects as much callowness, but actually RELIES on it from their viewers. Prevaricate and destroy is their motto (“fair and balanced” my ass). Personally, if I watched Faux News I would be insulted by the fact they assume their audience is so easily conned, but then again I’m an NPR girl.
        *shrugs*

      • JD says:

You have to give up, Cecilia. It’s like hitting your head against a brick wall.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Pretty sure that if you watch Fox News, you “gave up” on a dedication to the truth, not to mention a commitment to critical thinking, a long time ago.

…and yes I agree that watching Fox News is much like “hitting your head against a brick wall”, except less enjoyable and more damaging to the cerebral cortex.

…..that’s what you meant right, JD?? 😉

      • Cecilia says:

        @ OKitten

Pretty sure that if you watch Fox News, you “gave up” on a dedication to the truth, not to mention a commitment to critical thinking, a long time ago.

That would be a matter of opinion now wouldn’t it?

        Typical.

I’ll match your shrug & raise you an eye-roll.

@ JD…yes, I realise this, but sometimes you just have to stand up & speak.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

@ Cecelia-I refuse to roll my eyes at you because you are (presumably) a Republican. I don’t need to disrespect or discount your views and I don’t need to denigrate your political stance because frankly, I’m more than comfortable and secure with my own.

Political differences aside, I don’t blame you for speaking up and I welcome the debate. Honestly. My disrespect lies squarely on Fox News as a purportedly “unbiased” news outlet. It’s simply NOT true. Look, I read Daily Kos, Huffington Post and other openly liberal sites. I take what I read with a grain of salt as I know that a lot of it is slanted. Ultimately, I value objectivity above all and I know that isn’t easy when we’re talking politics. But Fox News in bottom of the barrel sh*t. If we were talking about Cato.org for instance, I would have kept my mouth shut.

I’m ok disagreeing politically, but it’s important to me that others understand that my disgust with Faux News is not based on my political persuasion. FYI, MSNBC disgusts me as well-the difference to me is that it’s not quite at propaganda-level the way Fox is. That being said, they are certainly NOT unbiased and they should be clear about that (they are NOT).

Let’s shake hands and move on. Not trying to convince the inconvincible- neither of us will change our minds and I’m fine with that, but I’m not going to pretend that Fox News is anything short of a manipulative, biased, and at times, downright racist network with a very clear agenda. I have no problem with the fact that there’s a conservative news channel (easy enough for me to ignore)-it’s the fact that they don’t OWN IT that I find insulting.

I tend to associate a reactionary response with Fox News. Yes, it is a generalization but it’s what I’ve seen thus far. Won’t back down on my opinion so as I said, I’m ok with disagreeing.

      • Cecilia says:

OKitten…I’m not asking you to pretend anything. I’m asking you to be considerate.
So?? Don’t watch Fox News — but don’t casually take other people for stupid that do. I remember one of my first big realisations — I was amazed that not everyone thought along the same lines that I did. This helped me greatly. I only read Alternative News sites. If I want a laugh — I will go to the main stream media. I never watch/read Fox & no, I am not a Republican — not that I owe you an explanation.

I mean no disrespect either, Kitten. I appreciate an honest debate.

  24. God–just looked at the pictures….Romney jr’s boobs shouldn’t be as big as mine….time to bodysnark the dudes…

  25. The Original G says:

A lot of people with MS feel better when they stay out of the sun.

  26. Addison says:

I know this is mean but I can’t help but watch the first 30 seconds of the clip over and over. I have no comment on the vacation situation, but the clip just makes me smile. Sure they poured their hearts and time into this, but they failed to see that they were not connecting with the country. A good portion of those that voted for him did so because of his religious views.

When Ann says she will never do this I again. I cross my fingers that it is true. I couldn’t take it either.

  27. Ellie66 says:

I’m sure it’s not the first time they have been to Hawaii.
